What happened at the Disturbing Tha Peace R&B Showcase?

Tuesday night, Spotlight Live in NYC held a showcase for all of the R&B artists on Luda’s Disturbing Tha Peace imprint. I generally avoid covering the “R&B Live” event because it’s always way too crowded and there are often problems at the door. But, I promised the DTP folks that I would be there so I went.

After dealing with the expected door problems (dude couldn’t locate my name on the press list, though it was clearly there), I made my way up to the press room where artists and members of the media were all milling around enjoying Hennessy and passed hors devours.

I caught up with Steph Jones, Marsha Ambrosious, Chingy, Bobby Valentino and "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks (who was the nicest person ever, by the way). Everyone seemed to be in good spirits and excited about the showcase.

I was totally surprised to hear rumors that all of DTP's R&B artists got the axe after the showcase. Apparently LA Reid was less than impressed. *Shrugs*

Anyway, here’s a little video that I shot in the press room before it all went down:

  • Danica!

Funny you put Chingy under R&B showcase... good call. Otherwise... it is spelt hors d'oeuvres and not hors devours. Like that chick said, I'm just trying to 'keep it real'.

  • That's a damn shame. You see musicians falling off now-a-days like old athletes. As long as you have an established name in the field though, you'll do fine. These artist just have to take more control of their careers. Bobby V? I mean really. When ol' boy dropped, everybody thought he'd be a mainstay in the industry. You barely here from dude anymore. A true and talented musician should be able to work past all of the politics in the game. Someone, like Alicia Keys. Shawty write her music, promoted herself well and has turned into an icon. L.A. Reid is just mad cause niggas ain't sellin like they used to. That shit ain't gonna change, hold on to what you got. Bobby will do fine. Shareefa, I don't know if the success off that "Hood Boy" song or whatever it was called is enough to keep her going, and I never heard of the other one. But, good luck to all of em. Everybody gotta eat.
