Tuesday night VH1 Soul premiered Soulstage with Erykah Badu. SOHH staffer Janelle was in the building for the taping. Here's what she had to say about the experience:
Since its debut in August 2007 VH1 SoulStage has offered up some of R&B’s most talented and unabashed artists. This year was no exception as Erykah Badu took to the stage with her neo-soul collection.I was fortunate enough to be a part of the live studio audience that witnessed history. This VH1 performance marked the first time that Erykah performed new tracks like “Honey” and “Healer” off her album, “New Amerykah: Part 1 (4th World War).”
Erykah wasted no time engaging the crowd. Petite as she may be, her voice is anything but. She opened with “On and On” immediately capturing any on-looker in the audience. Throughout her set, Erykah offered candid commentary on the inspiration for her work, both new and old. She also explained the meaning behind her new album. The“4th World War” she references is the war with one’s self.
Though she admitted to having just arrived from a trip to Nigeria, it was undetectable. Her performances were as on-point and passionate as if it were streaming live from an MP3 player.
The entire night offered a candid look into the artist that is Erykah. Though it was my first time seeing her perform, I walked away feeling like I had a better understanding of the ever-evolving artist that she is.
If you missed the show, no worries. The full 30 minute special with exclusive online performances of songs from Erykah’s brand new album, “New Amerykah: Part 1” are available now on VH1Soul.com. I highly reccommend that you check it out. Are you guys feeling Miss Badu's new album?

I love miss badu but every album gets weirder and weirder. I feeling 3 song. I like "The Healer" but I'll tell ya one thing, Hip Hop ain't bigger than My God. Is she a muslim now (if so that cool)? On the song "Me" she says Mr. Farrakhan is me. Then she says "I used to pray" as if she doesn't anymore. I don't care who you call God, you still gotta pray. And have you seriously taken a look at whats all in that afro of hers on the cover. Man that’ll mess your brain up. the pics inside are worst. I think I understand the afro though. It symbolizes the things thats going on in America but damn it made me depressed. I'm just confused about this album but she is so unique that I’ll support her anyway. The song “soldier” is dope though. I’m a listen to it a few more times closely to see what I think bout.
miss badu is one of a kind. i love that weird shit she be doing

I love Ebi since I was 13, since 1997. Yes, every album is weirder... but as an artist, Erykah's writing, composing, singing, producing is evolving and changing. Every album of hers is a testimony of what she feels at a certain time of her life. To have the ability to express yourself like that, that's a gift. The new album is confusing, but she is stating she's confused with everything going on in the world, in life. This is not an ordinary release for the radio or clubs. That's what I like about Erykah. Even tho she got million people who like her music, she's always gonna be a step ahead. The question is: Can you (or the world) follow her?
If I had to choose, I'd say my fav. is "The Cell"
And oh... people have the right to choose in which god they gonna believe in.. or NOT belive in... be agnostic, atheist.. or just spiritual...
and pray or don't pray.. it's simple.
LIBERTAD!

HIP-HOP LIVES BITCHES
BADU'S ALBUM IS OFF THE CHAIN!!!! THIS IS CLASSIC MATERIAL. P.E.A.C.E. (PLEASE EDUCATE ALL CHILDREN EQUALLY)
I love Erykah, she can record herself taking a shit and I would still buy the album. She's beautiful inside and out. I love her style.
Badu is my favorite female RnB artist, however, I'm not feeling this new album. I thought HONEY would be her direction on the cd, but HONEY is the lone stand out track. There are no songs you can make love to on the cd. Her first two cds, I had the best sex off them. This one seems real militant and political. I have every Erykah Badu cd, and unfortunately, this is the worst one. I hope Part 2 is doper and more mainstream with hot beats. This CD is spaced out. It will not stop me from supporting her her though. I love me some E. Badu
SOHH Gyant says...
Soulman words can not express how much I am going to miss you. While I know I am known as the “troublemaker” on various SOHH blogs, I couldn’t have gotten as far as I have without you standing behind me battling it out with the SOHH gods.
We were a tag team, and its because of OUR hard work and dedication that has our blogs on the tips of peoples tongues. Our “blog hard or go home” mantra has elevated the game to unconscionable proportions. Whom ever takes your place better get with the program. The Soulman brought the goods. And he brought them consistently EVERY SINGLE DAY. You got some big shoes to fill.
To the Soulman; Nobody did it like you did. Good or bad, you always put your thang in it. I could only dream of being as good of a writer as you
I for real am in love with Erykah Badu. No lie duke.
