Album Talk With Lupe, YUME BKNY Opens Doors

Busy weekend to say the least. We kicked it off by catching up with Lupe Touche last Friday (September28).

Interesting interview. The Chicago lyricist revisited the commercial dissapointment of his debut, the recording process of his sophomore CD, The Cool, fashion and shocking online moments among other things. The LP is scheduled to hit stores December 18th.

"I don't think I made enough of an impact to go away," Lupe told SOHH regarding his decision to drop an album only a year after his debut. "I think if I'll go away, people will forget about me."

After the interview, Lupe pulled out his laptop and let us see artwork for some of The Cool's promotional items. The three most interesting art pieces were based on the three characters from "The Cool," the song not the album. The Cool (character) was actually incarnated by Kadeem Hardison (Dwayne Wayne from "A Different World"). I wish you could see it, but there's no way Lupe was about to let that leak.

On another note, me and some of the fellers hit up Sputnik for the opening of the YUME BKNY clothing store. Sponsored by Creme Magazine, the event showcased a few up-and-coming artists, including Good Day Good Night, Outasight and Live Wire.

Good Day Good Night was pretty dope. Complete with a live band, including a keyboardist wearing a V for Vendetta mask and a bassist sporting an Iron Man helmet, frontman Prince offered original lyrics over live renditions of Kanye West's "Flashing Lights, Lupe Fiasco's "Kick Push" and Pitch Black's "It's All Real." I would have liked to see more original beats. Still, the band is quite dope.

Outasight also did his thing. I can see him making some noise. Too bad I can't say the same for Live Wire. I personally just couldn't get with them. DJ Evil Dee closed the event on the 1s and 2s.

In conclusion, happy birthday to Sam Ed and Tobby. We hit up the city to celebrate their born days this Saturday.
