New York-Tokyo Music Festival Exhibitors Shin Tanaka and the Avenue A Skateboard Art Show

Saturday, after it stopped raining I trekked over to Rumsey Playfield in Central Park for the New York-Tokyo Music Festival 2007. There were scheduled performances by MF Doom, Pharoahe Monch, Collie Buddz, the Teriyaki Boyz, DJ Uppercut and Rosco P Coldchain. Though I didn't exactly get to stay for the show I did get to cruise through the exhibit area while listening to the sounds of the Kool DJ Red Alert.

They had a game zone where people huddled around playing EA Skate, a skate zone where Pro riders from Zoo York and Nike SB sessioned on a 4' x 12' mini halfpipe and an art zone which featured work from Shin Tanaka and the Avenue A Skateboard Show.

For those who don't know, Shin Tanaka is a Japanese artist, graffiti writer, paper toy creator and designer who has collaborated with Nike, Adidas and Reebok. He had these handmade paper toys on display. They are each one of a kind and feature Tanaka's signature and a "1 of 1" on the bottom of their sneakers.

The other exhibit that caught my eye was Mike A's Avenue A Skateboard Show. It's an exhibit that goes down at this Japanese Restaurant and Gallery called Avenue A in NYC. It features over 30 artists and 40 painted decks. Check out some pics:
