Yesterday 2K Sports invited the media to get a sneak peek at NBA 2K8. At this point the game is only about 60% done and we only got to see one part... the NBA blacktop feature set. Here are some pics.
In 2K8, the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest takes place out outside on the Vegas strip. Up to four players can compete at one time and the game is broken down into three rounds (each player gets 2 tries per round.)
The actual dunks are broken down into three sections: the gather, in air style and the finish. You can even add a bunch of props to dunk over. I spotted a folding chair, a construction horse, a car (I think) and barrels which you can stack as high as you want. According to the 2K8 rep there are over 300 varieties of dunks to master.
The contest is hosted by none other than DJ/Streetball player Bobbito Garcia. You can see him jumping around the screen making commentary and calling for instant replays ("Bring that beat back").
Speaking of Bobbito, what do you all think about the 2nd Edition Air Force 1 Bobbito Garcia "Kool Bob Love" that was released earlier this month?

EA admitted that Live was horrid last year. There were sites put up by live fans wanting their money back. It has been that way for a while. This year they started a blog getting gamers opinions on how to remake the entire game. Simply put, Live in no way comes close to being a better basketball game than the 2k series. Hopefully they can step their game up this year. Theirs has definately been prettier the last few years but they play like crap.

I played 2k7 on my 650$ console and it is alright. 2K definately has the graphics aspect, but in my opinion Live's gameplay is better and Live gives you more control over the players. This year I am going to kop both and see what is really good.

NBA 2K series is the best b-ball game. EA has been trying 2 catch up eversince it's existance on the Dreamcast. The only way EA can win if it outright bought the nba license like they did when they to the NFL. When i go XBOX LIVE all i see ppl play is 2k7. Not LIVE. So this time 2k instituted it's own dunk contest for the 1st time. Now EA fanboys are crying because they had it first or "bitting". It doesn't matter who had it first or copies it, it's who does it the best. I put my money on 2k. Live has been a dissapointment in recent years and it need a facelift (graphics and playabilty wise). NBA 2k>EA NBA Live. The basketball eqivilent to Madden....shoot i don't play madden cause it YAWWWNNN!!! bores me. 2k8 2 me, best sports game.

I cant wait for this game.I could care less about the dunk contest,lets get these online seasons crackin.I used to play live,but 2k took over.I hope they let you use the backboard in this game.That was the only problem with nba 2k7.

Graphics? This isn't a direct feed into the camera. It is someone taking a picture of a screen, so u shouldn't expect it to be as clear and detailed as if you were looking at the tv in person.
If Danica truly cared about this game she would mention that. Then peeps wouldn't think these were pure "direct-feed" footage and a true re-presentation of how the game will look.

2k7 definitely trumps nba Live..
Live has fell off so far, 2k is close to the madden of basketball with the mutliplayer association (dynasty) and online leagues...
I can't wait for madden
2ks dunks are dope as hell too, everytime i play i tend to see new moves and things that i haven't seen before, with live...everything seems to be been there done that, they need to step up their basketball game...I finally converted to 2ksports basketball after being a life long live fan..but live 2006 was a huge dissapointment...and they refuse to fix the dynasty mode with multi player mode

Yo... plain and simple... Live is not as good as it should be. 2K has taken over basketball games. Live used to be the best. It was the most innovative and always had the best graphics. Now, they've let 2K come in and just shut sh!t down... I mean, when 2K came out with the shot stick. It crushed Live. Why is it that in Live I can't choose whether I wanna do a left hand layup or a right hand layup whenever I want? I CAN do that in 2K... This is just a small part of the edge that 2K has on Live. Another thing is that Live has too much of an arcade feel (and yes I play on simulation). Live is just too clunky. 2K on the other hand, is very smooth and the players move like real people. That's what true gamers want. All you dudes thinking that Live is real need to wake up!! The alarm is going off and you are in a dead sleep.
I will say this though, the new NBA Live 08 looks great as far as gameplay and graphics... I hope that 2k will step it up because this years Live looks like last years 2k as far as how the players move and interact on the court. I hope 2K can step it up and keep it going for the true basketball fans.

Yeah 2k7 was tight for ps3...only reason I copped it in da 1st place is bc live 07 never ended up coming out. I definetely liked it though...da only thing I didn't like was da fact that u can't use ur headset during online play...I like talking shit while I'm beating niggas 2 a pulp feel me

I've been waiting for this all year. The 2K series kills Live in all aspects. I'm liking how they got the dunk contest added this year and you're able to add in props to dunk over(why hasn't Live thought of that yet?). This is a definite buy when it drops.

Fool 2K football had the precision passing before EA and Madden jacked that aspect. then people get on Madden and think its brand new. EA got most of they swag from 2K and it was easy for them to make it look like theirs when they got all the rights to the NFL games. Do your research son........... And it sounds to me as if 2K is improving on the lame slam dunk contest that appears on live.

Mann, the 2k Series is leagues above that live bullshit. I had both NBA live 06 and 07 and I sold both of them. They are both some arcady, unrealistic games. The only good thing about the live series is the amazing graphics. Live 07 was so wack, I took it back to the game store to trade it in. The players even ran funny, sliding all over the court, shooting funny and ish, the live gameplay mechanics in 07 were messed up. EA just keep releasing the same shit, rehashed and repackaged. Same shit different toilet.
NBA 2k6 was crack, the gameplay is realistic, they shoot right, pass right, it feels like how it does when I ball. It has realistic gameplay. 2k7 was even better, so you know 2k8 is going to be some crack.

Y'all crazy. Madden shits on any other NFL game, so much so that they now the ONLY NFL game. And lately 2K's been better in b-ball. 2K6 AND 2K7 were better than Live. But I heard the new Live is about to be dope and they made a bunch of improvements....

Live has beengarbage for a while and I never thought I would ever say that. Since 1995 I have bought every live that ever came out on the release date and everthing. But this shit they let ride on the 360 and PS3 has been doo doo. Tell me this why does Live keep adding features like espn and sports center and bullshit like that instead of working on the gameplay. When I play I feel like im playing with robots. The players shoot like freaks and tell me this... Why do they STILL dunk the same way they did since 2002. Does live think this shit is tight or something. What Live needs to do is revamp the whole way the players look and move because that system does not work. They can work on graphics all day but if it doesnt feel like real basketball then I dont want nothing to do with it. NOW back to 2k8. The only thing I had a problem with for 2k7 was some of the players lokked NOTHING like their counterparts but thats it! 2k sports needs to tweak a few things, expand on the system they already have, and work on the players looks a litte and I believe they will deliver. In the end I will never completely turn my back on Live but until they deliver Im wit 2k.
