Again... Vibe.com has no business telling anyone who raps better than who. But Joe Budden for some reason took their little "best rappers" list quite seriously-- thus sparking a heated wave of opposition by the Wu Tang crew after Joe dropped Method Man's name.
Considering the amount of classics associated with the Wu Tang brand, I deem it hilarious and nonsensical that Joe would even open his mouth to say anything negative about the Wu, considering the only thing defining Joe Budden's career are his Mood Muzik mixtapes. Which have sold more than his Def Jam debut, by the way. This doesn't mean Joe can't think he's a better rapper than Method Man. But sometimes you should think before you speak or don't speak at all-- especially when your career has been barely hanging on by the hook of your girlfriend's ass-tight jeans. In terms of success, global reach, longevity-- Method Man has that. Joe Budden ... ehh...
I consider the subject pretty much deaded, especially since Joe backtracked his statements, but since these rappers keep talking about it, take a look at these two rappers in the below videos. And come to your own conclusions.
Up until I heard that god-awful track that C-N-N did with Ron Browz, I actually had faith in N.O.R.E. After witnessing what a catastrophe that song was, I now think that he has absolutely NO BUSINESS discussing anyone's opinion on rap. From Reggaeton to "Rotate," Noreaga is a walking rap disaster himself.
"[Joe's] entitled to his opinion. Everybody's entitled to their opinion but when you make your opinion public, it sometimes comes across as disrespect. And a lot of people could feel that way but what it is, is you're entitled to your opinion as long as it's not public because once you make public, it can become the wrong thing. I wasn't mad at his opinion at all but when he made it public and when it comes across that's why people really blew it up. He didn't really say nothing disrespectful. But the fact that it's in the public eye, the public now has the decision to whether to co-sign it or disregard it but you know, you see what happened with it. It got thrown a little out of proportion. I heard what Busta [Rhymes] said, I heard what Method [Man] said, Red[man] said. I honestly don't think Joe meant it that way, in a disrespectful manner."-- N.O.R.E
"Cant give that nigga no shine man. First of all everbody know that he's not even nowhere near n*ggas. I aint got nothin against Joe Buddens I don't know him I don't care for him like that. But when he mentioned one of my brothers its like 'yo you out of character, b.' And on a real note you're not better than nobody over here. So to me that was just somethin I feel he jumped in a pool with no water. And then realized that he made a mistake.
"[When he said Ol Dirty Bastard shouldnt even be on the list] that hurt my heart right there he was out of control that day. He tryna simmer it down or whatever. But he knows he was out of control that day. He don't want no problems man.
"It's important to be yourself and feel confident but you gotta watch your mouth who you talk about because you never know. We the type of n*ggas we dont give a f*ck about rap. We might approach when we see you somewhere and really get at you. I'm not with trying to start no negative shit but I am with approachin n*ggas who get outta line. But Meth said 'yo chill,' he got that... keep it cool..."--Raekwon
I would further comment. But I'll refrain from doing so.
I agree with Raekwon, in the fact that it's one thing to have an opinion. It's another when it starts going ino disrespect territory. And Joe cross that line. Nobody is saying he couldn't express how eh felt about the Vibe list or how he feels he's a better rapper. Because every rapper is cocky and or confident in some shape or form. It was nothing rong with him doing the little video and saying how he felt about that. It was what he did afterwards, is when it became a problem. The twittering, the radio interviews where he just got flat out disrespectful.
And that's what his fans and everybody else is not understanding. But you're right Reckless, Joe really can't be arrogant about anything. Because he hasn't left any type of impact or mark on Hip Hop. Which is why Joe probably got upset at the whole thing. Because he doesn't get the respect and recognition his hip hop peers get. And he's not mentioned with the great, which is something he desparately wants. So that brought his bitterness to the surface. Sorry Joe fans. It's the truth.
And as for Joe Budden himself. Well he can spit, he's nice and all. But he's VERY overrrated.
You Method Man fans are buggin. You Budden haters are buggin. You are failing to see the point in the man's statement. Joe said "TODAY" he is a better rapper than Method Man. Key word is "TODAY". Like Joey said, everyone knows Bill Russell is a better center than Dwight Howard. Russell got the Rings, he's in the HOF, even got a trophy named after him. If he was to step on the court "TODAY" with Dwight Howard, are you going to tell me that Dwight wouldn't smash him? That is Joe's point. Joe feels he can Rap better than Meth Today. And Rae is buggin if he thinks ODB (and I love ODB like any other Wu-Tang fan RIP) is a better rapper than Joe. I understand Rae gotta stick up for his bretheren, but c'mon. Yall are buggin with carrying this crap on. Rae, just put out a (hot) album and stop crying.
TODAY Joe Buddens still doesn't hold a torch to Method and he will never be on the same universe as ODB (RIP). I want some of what "Joe Beezy Fan" is smokin because it must be the BOMB.
None of those other rappers Buddens feels he's better than needed to bring out their bitches' asses just to stay relevant.
{{-_-}}
Not a Joe Buddens fan. Don't listen to his music. However, he can say whatever he wants. He wouldn't be the first rapper to pick a fight as a gimmick to get attention. I, personally don't like that approach but the lack of consistency in rap is hysterical. KRS, Pac, 50 and many others took to unprovoked insults to generate buzz and they are reverred. Why wouldn't Joey pull this stunt? He wants to be a star too. LOL!
Johnny Ace, what are you basing your theories on? What ODB, Method Man, Joe Budden albums/songs have you heard that brings you to the conclussions you have come to? Just wondering.
See I don't think Joey is using it as a ploy. He's been making video's on Joe Budden TV expressing his opinion on matters. I think Meth, Rae, Redman, and Busta are using it for publicity because they have albums that were dropped or supposed to drop (Rae). Joey has been relatively quiet since the ed lover show. If it was a gimmick, he would be all over the place yapping about it.
