Who is J. Cole?

Supposedly some dude out of the Carolinas who is now signed to Jay-Z's ROC Nation...

I just started seeing this dude on the blogs, but just wrote him off as just another internet rapper. Until now. What caught my attention was this joint he did. It's a decent effort over Jay-Z's '96 classic "Dead Presidents," partially sampled from Nas's "The World is Yours," which had been released just two years earlier. The very same joint that became a topic of discussion during Nas and Jay's beef: "So yeah I sampled your voice, you was usin it wrong/ You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song."

Well, not that J. Cole's spin on it has a classic appeal. But I suppose using a classic beat to catch the attention of the '90s era hip-hop audience works. At least, it did with me. It's clear that this dude isn't out to captivate the Soulja Boy bracket. And this is a Southern rapper we're talking about-- which is what takes me by surprise. I thought decent rappers coming from out of the South was over. Forever.

Now I posted on this dude-- who has nothing to do with New York-- for two reasons. 1) to convince myself show that Jay-Z isn't such a clumsy clown when it comes to signing artists. 2) to remind myself that not all Southern rappers sound like idiots, and that I do recognize real talent-- even if they're from the pits of hip-hop.

Aight Hov. This is a decent one. Now do us a favor, and dont ever sign another sorry Lady Sovereign again.

It took for Jay to leave tainted Def Jam to actually scope out some real talent. That's a good look.

Jay-Z Is a horrible Executive, Name 1 artist hes blown up?
Kanye was dame's creation just listen to though the wire.

Loser!!!!!

Homie did get nice on that track..But honestly, that beat is so classic, so tight, it will make the shittiest rapper sound average, the average rapper sound nice, and the nicest rapper sound great.

Helo88: He signed Rihanna

didn't he sign Jeezy too?

Not only was signing J.Cole a good move, but signing Mickey Factz was an excellent move by Jay.

Reckless is a Jay dicksucker. J. cole is nice from what I have heard so far but knowing how jay does his artists he will never shine unless he makes jay shine 1st by writting for and relinquishing all credits. RETIRE FOR GOOD PLEEEEAAAASSSEE we tired of u n beyonce stealing from the real talents in the industry.

C'mon don't be ignorant. You havn't heard every rapper in the world so you can't possibly say that decent rap is over for our southern hemisphere.

He went in !
Big!

He aiiight. Nothing new, sounds like a combo of nas and someone else but his voice is weak. Doesn't carry and I found myself rockin to the beat and paying attention to the words.

ERIC GOOD IS THE BEST UNSIGNED ARTIST. YEAH YOU'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE, BUT TRUST HE IS THE FUTURE. DONT BELIEVE , CHECK HIM OUT. myspace.Com/ericgood
