So Va$htie, one of the VERY FEW-- if not only-- female video directors, put a spin on the video for (the lead single?) "Letter to B.I.G." A little does a lot.
Official video: Jadakiss f/ Faith Evans "Letter to B.I.G"
If this joint would have come out back in the '90s, or even in the early millenium (am I saying that right?), this joint would have been a MAJOR HIT. This is why I was a litte disappointed to see what a half-ass job they did on the first version of the video, posted below. Now, we all know that as far as hip-hop, things aren't what they used to be. Of course. BUT, keep in mind that hip-hop soundtracks USED TO SELL. And even if week one sales didn't pass the 100,000 mark, they still pushed the album. An absence of these practices is why good music isn't going anywhere. This here (below) is a prime example of that.
We see the effort. But the album already came out and lost its buzz. So it's too late now.
What's also too late is Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2. Which seems to be hanging off the edge of a cliff. All it needs is a Wudang karate kick two inches to the side and it's a wrap. But don't let Rae tell it; he'll be in the kitchen slow simmering a 5-mic formula for another two years.
I think this OB4CL2 thing is purely psychological. As time progresses it's becoming more and more evident that Rae has convinced himself that "this album CAN and WILL get a release!" Even though it won't. Because he's too afraid that it WONT SELL. Or that his fans will be disappointed.
I saw this in my inbox, and ignored it for 2 days. Why? Because I didn't think it was going to be worth it. Then I wanted to clear a bunch of junk out, and decided to give it a listen. It's a good look. A lot better than that mediocre stuff I posted last week.
Homage or exploitation?
