So do you, or don't you, Reid? This is the question that came to mind when I read what L.A Reid told MTV.
"I wanna know that artists like Jay-Z and business people like Jay-Z can have a 40-year career," L.A. said. "I wanna see the first hip-hop artist have a 40 year career. I wanna know that hip-hop has the legs, and it wasn't a trend in music. It wasn't something that can come and go, but it will stick around and last. No different from rock music, no different from pop music."
Stop ass kissin, n*gga. And read the below:
Dear L.A Reid,
You'd like to see artists like Jay have 40-year careers. And you run what was ONCE a hip-hop label. Yet you took Def Jam and turned its hip-hop legacy into ashes. You relentlessly push Rihanna. Give Ne-Yo three albums. Give The Dream a second, even though his first one was a dud. Sign Megan Rochelle, Teairra Marie, Chrisette Michelle, and who knows how many other R&B chicks-- who never made it, by the way-- all the while putting rap artists on the back burner.
And now we have this trash Elektric Red.
Even though hip-hop roster was wack and washed up, you should have found new talent. But you can't. Cause you're not a hip-hop dude. Which is why you had Jay hold the weight. Which is why you don't belong on Def Jam.
Another label? Sure. But not Dead Def Jam. I don't know what kind of label that is now. That sh*t is a complete joke.
Signed,
We Don't Believe You. You Need More People. {end}
It's funny. Everything in Reid's quote contradicts the L.A Reid I perceive. In other words, he's saying the complete opposite of what he really feels.
But then again, I'm not him. So let's ask, why don't we?
So tell us, Reid. Do you-- or do you NOT-- care about hip-hop? Nah. I don't think you do. There are a hand full of qualified cats in the game-- besides Jay-- who you could have let done wonders for IDJ. But even if they had been put on the Def Jam payroll, the hip-hop budget would have been sucked dry for the Island side. Which is what happened to all the rappers that we haven't heard from in months. Or over a year. There's no money for REAL rap promo. R&B is more important. They get all the albums. And five and six videos. And all that other stuff.
Rap gets the internet.
Not to mention the A&Rs in there don't know what the hell they're doing.
L.A, try to sound more believable next time.
And by the way, Reid says Blueprint may not be negotiable:
"We still have an arrangement with Jay-Z. He and I are really good friends, and we enjoy working together, and we're hoping we could figure it out. If we can't figure it out, it won't lessen my interest in his record and in his career. My relationship with him goes much deeper than what company it's on. To me, the Blueprint 3 is an important album, however it comes out. If it comes out in a cereal box, it doesn't matter to me. As long as it's one of the great records of our time."NOW we're talking that Def Jam talk. Packaging Hov's album in a cereal box sounds more like it. The recycled boxes, that is. Perhaps pushing a shopping cart full of blueprinted ceral boxes up and down 125th,
Why are people still waiting on bp3 when kingdom come was terrible.
The hip hop game is sooo wack right now. There are so many artists that have amazing talent that need to be heard. A&R's have no idea what theyre doing!! A&R's are terrible!! The artform is sinking in a toilet. Get rid of Soulja baby and everyone that sounds like him.
My words fucking exactly Reckless. I pretty much said the same thing when this was first posted yesterday.
Jay is just as much to blame for DJ going r& b as la reid is. he used the strength of mef and red back in the day for his tour, but left them out to dry. couldnt help out his own roc boyz. signed his friends the roots and gave them no support. didnt do a whole lot for nasir either other than sign him.
Not to mention trading Fabolous to Colombia for Babyface. SMH.
DJ traded Musiq for Fab good trade IMO
Them being an R&B label isn't so bad cuz we all know if all the rappers they had released albums nobody would cop
ummm, 'Mayo,'...buddy...people are waiting on BP3 b/c American Gangster restored all faith lost after Kingdom Come.
This will be one of the greatest albums ever.
Man Reid needs to get off that R&B kick and get back with the rap. And he can do that by getting Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 out as soon as possible. Also get real hip-hoppers behind the project, like the rumors that Timbaland wants in and that music video director Director Hugo V is gonna shoot a video for every track...man Reid make it happen!
