Jay-Z & Damon Dash: One Is Broke, The Other's Losing Hope

I appreciate artists like Kanye West, even though I'm not so sure I appreciate the new music he's been releasing as of late.  But there's no denying that in the past five years, 'Ye has given many of us a breath of fresh air when it comes to hip-hop music.  However, I often wonder if Kanye would have been around to give us something refreshing to listen to if it weren't for Damon Dash. Why wonder, though, when the answer to that is an obvious "no"?

It's been four years since the separation of Jay, Biggs, and Dame.  And not long after those three parted ways, Kanye admitted in an interview with MTV's Sway that he was wrong for turning his back on Dame to jump ships with Hov; after all, Dame was the one who believed in him from the beginning and somehow convinced others to give him a chance.  Even in "Big Brother," Kanye speaks on how Hov never gave him the time of day.  And the irony in that is that Kanye is currently the only one keeping "The ROC's" name alive. Many say that without Kanye there would be no "ROC," even though that label barely exists anymore.  Looking at Jay-Z's lukewarm post-retirement career (as far as music), can anyone convincingly argue that he's the reason people still know what Roc-A-Fella is?

And that's what's so weird about it.  It seems that these lagging two years that Hov has endured have a mind of their own, and they don't intend to halt-- or make a turn-around-- any time soon. As time progresses, his presence seems to lessen. His musical buzz is not what it used to be. His songs don't excite his audience the way they used to.  Needless to say, that "retirement" label kind of slowed his momentum. Now Kanye has revealed that Jay's Blueprint 3 album will drop in February of next year. Say word? Since when did Hov ever need to place a delay on an album release? Never, as far as I can remember. Looks like his "Jockin Jay-Z" and "History" isn't really doing what was expected.

Dame, being as bitter as he is, would love to laugh at Jay right about now, but he can't. The n*gga's broke and when it comes to Dame, the saying "broke as a joke" could never be more true. The joke is on the media, because for a cat to have so much money and then lose it-- yet have the media speculating on his financial status for so long and still not be able to confirm it despite numerous reports-- is kind of funny.

"Former Roc-A-Fella Records big wig Damon Dash has been issued an order from a Manhattan judge requesting the seizure of his vehicle.

According to New York's Daily News, the hip-hop mogul is being sought after for his Chevrolet Tahoe due to missed payments. Issued this week, the claim alleges Dash has not been making the $714.99 monthly payments on the leased truck.

"I've worked with musicians, artists and entertainers that in the eyes of the media are wealthy," attorney Jason Gabbard - a lawyer that repped a fashion firm that settled a suit against Dash for close to $150,000 - told the Daily News. "But... [Dash and his wife, Rachel Roy] haven't got a pot to p*** in, they're broke."

In addition to the car payments, Dash must address $2.1 million in claims from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, $4,500 from New York for unpaid workers' compensation and an alleged lawsuit claiming he did not fully pay a law firm that worked on his child-custody case."

Damn, Dame. I still think Jay is f*cked up in the way he handled the disbanding of the Roc-A-Fella bond, but when I see the misfortune of Dame, I can't help but to think that maybe Jay saw where Dame was headed way before the break-up: excessive spending habits, mismanagement of money and more excessive spending. Good choice, Jay. But you're still losing your clout. Better get back on that corner and start from the bottom up. It worked the first time.

No suggestions for Dame. That dude is just hopeless.

I don't know what's worse.

A broke ass blogger(cough cough Reckless) claiming another rich dude is broke.

Are u retarded or something, Dam Dash is a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggggggggg ways away from being broke.

LMFAO!

jay may be lukewarm, but hes still well known respected and married to a chick thats on fire (musically, and looks)

one jay z line sums up dames down fall:

you can pay for school, but you cant buy class.

For starters dog Blueprint 3 isn't delayed, do your research Hov never said it was coming out. And while the Roc is fledlging right now Jay is def the reason people still know it exists, besides Diamonds Kanye never throws up the Roc that much. History isn't even an offical single either b, the album doesnt even have one yet. Yes Dame believed in Kanye when Jay didn't (as a rapper at least) but do you really think Dame couldve helped Kanye flourish the way Jay did with these last two albums...I don't. With certain comments made in songs like Big Brother, Swagga Like Us, etc, it would seem like Jay and Ye have a very strained relationship but I honestly think that its exaggerated otherwise how could they work holed up in Hawaii together the past couple months. And btw yea Kingdom Come was a misstep but you're one of the few that wasnt feeling American Gangster, that album got great reception

Jay never set a release date. none of Jay tracks released thus far was ever called an official single. So where does that leave your point on the matter?

Dame made his bed and now he gotta lay in it. I don't feel sorry for him one bit. Through all the BS he and Sean Carter went through, dude still walked away a multi millionaire. I can't pity his situation. There may have been something else going on with Dame nobody else knew about but his closest peeps. Hell, even Kanye knew which way to go. In spite of Dame being the only one that believed in him he STILL chose Jay because Jay played the better hand. Alls fair in love and business I guess.

Why is everytime someone writes an article about Jay-Z people get so offended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People fail to realize that he has fallin' off, he might not have fail off like Dame but lets face it he not movin anybody except the lame anyway!!! Also being married to Beyonce doesn't make you a musical sensation. FYI: She isn't on fire her damn self!!! Stop "jockin" him and maybe he will go away like Dame!!!!

LUKEWARM POST-RETIREMENT JAY?...DID WE FORGET ABOUT AMERICAN GANGSTER?

kitkat u lame bitch-learn how to do something other than un your mouth. To say hov only moves the lame is a testament to how much you really pay attention to hip hop.

its been a lil minute now! So i wouldnt be surprised if dame was broke! he hasnt had any deals go through nore do you see him bringin out new artists. You barely hear about dame. ya gota understand that them niggas have million dollar incomes but they also have million dollar expenses to keep up with. Its simple math $1,000,000 - 1,200,000 in expenses =( -$ 200,000) Which means if I have $1 I have more money than Dame! Thats called being negative rich so he looks rich but in reality he's broke...ha ha which is basically having a $500,000 car and no gas money! Its highly possible, and its a lot of people like that, thats why I believe that lawyer who said he dont gota pot to piss in... "It is what it is, not what it looks like and what people say or think!"

-T.R.A.Y.

They're all losers ultimately, and that includes whoever's the hottest right now. Chasing celebrity is a losing game, period. What the hell is so special about you that everybody supposed to be worshipping you forever; nothing, that's what.

yoooooooooo this website shuld soohhhhhhhhh fire your hating ass..

this isnt for the post. i usually dont post but i wanted to speak on this. everytime i try and post im given an error and the erases the post. is there a limit? what is it?

MGA!!!!!!!!!!! Talkin' about a bitch I think you were referring to yourself Jay-Z ass ain't hip-hop!!!!!!!! Hip-hop are people like Common, Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest and the list goes on with Jay-Z nowhere in site. He a great RAPPER, but hip-hop, please! If he paid you for how much you ride his dick you would be rich

Question
What about "Biggs". If someone would interview him maybe it could answer some questions. Make sure it is just his interview. He was the quiet one. I bet he is not broke at all.

It's the roc!!!!Hova, holla,
Shawn Carter is leaving the building and will never be like he once was. Beyonce' is a copy catting hoe with no skills. Mimics everyone she feels is competition. Dame well yall going to hate on dame regardless, I would never believe that he's welfare broke. Biggs is money go holla at him, he's known as a silent partner. He don't rap or isn't a hypeman, Just a silent partner with money. What was, was. It will never be again, Jay-z has left the streets and niggas still talking about he's the greatest, only in the hip hop culture, what's so great about him. If you ain't at work being bored or in school on break then if you are on this site and not self employed I am wondering are you a groupie or a stalker or maybe a lonely person with no one to turn and talke to forreal because in the street Jay-z is far from being the man.
Gucci got more heat in the winter than Jigga right now. Stop hate and lies and say to ur self that dude is wack, he died in 2001 the Blue print when em tore him a new one on a track that was meant to compliment but destroyed the use to be icon because em came harder than he did.

Again more hate from sohh, Dame Dash is broke in the sense that the lifestyle he displayed in the media isn't what it is but fair play how many rappers really livin it, i bet you dame still popping tags while you bums wait for your friday pay check to pop a wal mart tag and that includes you gyant. Jay-z is still the man his only competition is himself so plz people get over it, Kanye made good beats Jay opposed the rapper side of things but so what his a boss and sometimes mistakes happen

@ Scrilla Kingz.... If Hov's only competition is himself, then why in the hell is Wayne's and TI's recent albums pushed more units then his last 2 albums????? And I guarentee that when BP3 drops, he still won't push as many units as Wayne or Tip did their first week.

When did platinum albums and domestic & international sold-out venues become the definition of falling off. And this is a damn near 40 y.o. rap artist we're talking about. In comparison LL Cool J has to play 2nd fiddle to someone else's tour and can't even secure dates. (So who's falling off?) And I bet you check for Jay's next album. Also, unless yiu do Dame's books don't believe he's broke. I mean really, a lease on a Yukon???? Who cares?

damn i fucks wit sohh.com but i didnt know you niggas was haters like that thats fucked up but the nigga dame kinda fucked his self spending to much and didnt have it like that.and both these niggas rich if dame was dumb enough to go broke he deserved it and i wonder how cam and dame feel about jay-z steadiy growing while they fade out

Well, as far as Jay being Luke warm, I don't believe that. I believe he's still a hot artist he's still a force to be wreckend with. Maybe not so much on BP 2 or Kingdom Come but DEF. on American Gangsta, that was a great way to make a come back. It almost makes me feel like he should now retire leaving that as his last project. He can't keep rapping about the same stuff forever as he grows his lyrics have to grow too. As far as Dame goes, well we will never know the full story but it's messed up on how Jay left it but it's also messed up how Dame went about doing business too. So there is a lot for them to learn but clearly someone learned because one is making more money than the other. For all the money they made Dame should have been smart and sought out other business ventures. He has to know he can't be in the music game forever.

Chip u gotta be fuckin jokin. Of couse Kanye would have done just as well with Dame. How easily people 4get, Jay was the lyricist on Resonable Doubt however, Dame was mos def the business man who fought 4 the airtime, and the label. Most labels were not even checkin 4 Jay, def jam included, it was the hustleman that is Dame that made it possible 4 us 2 be blessed with that. At the end of the day, Dame and Biggs gave Jay an equal stake in the lable that they were building around him. I can't hate on Jay, it's chess niggas, but I gotta stand up and say, it kinda makes my stomach turn when I see Beyonce throwin up the Dynasty sign. I mean damn, that is anothers man's blood sweat and tears on there, that's the house that Dame built.

jay falling off??? he tied elvis presleys record for number one albums last year. his last three albums out sold tips.and 2 out of his lasst 3 out sold weezy's.so how is he falling off.The black album and american ganster are both good albums blueprint 2 and kindome come were subpar tho
