Yawn. Slow news day. So I guess I'll pull something out of the storage bin. The poor man Daddy Yankee issued a statement regarding the harsh backlash he received from Fat Joe. And the statement sure was ugly...
Ugly as in ... embarrassing and naive.
Fat Joe called Yankee a sellout for endorsing McCain, a man who represents a party that is well known for not giving a damn about anyone not white or who makes less than upper middle-class salaries (it is what it is). After taking nearly three weeks to respond, Daddy Yankee's attempts to defend himself came off as air-headed and just plain stupid.
"A man does not sell out when he backs his ideals," Daddy Yankee told The New York Post. "I don't care who I piss off...This is about my ideals, not about making friends. Senator McCain is the kind of man whose promises you can actually believe in."
Shame.
Flashback:
"I felt like I wanted to vomit when I seen that [Yankee had endored McCain]," Joe said. "The reason why I called him a sellout is because I feel he did that for a [publicity] look, rather than the issues that are affecting his people that look up to him. How could you want John McCain in office when George Bush and the Republicans already have half a million people losing their homes in foreclosure? We're fighting an unjust war. It's the Latinos and black kids up in the frontlines, fighting that war...We over here trying to take the troops out of Iraq and bring peace. This guy immediately wants war. If not with Iraq or Afghanistan, he'll start a new one with Iran. I feel real disgusted that Daddy Yankee would do that. Either he did that for a look, or he's just not educated on politics."
In response to Fat Joe's challenge to debate, Yankee said
"Look, I'm not a politician. I am a man with ideals, and I think that el Senador McCain is the best candidate. I asked el senador point-blank about whether or not he will seriously help Puerto Rico and our veterans here, and he said, 'Yes. You endorse me, and I will do it.' I believe he will back up his word."
Haha. Are you serious? What an idiot. But wait! It gets worse:
"I like his stance on immigration reform, that he works across party lines to help immigrants, that he agreed to take a look and help the dire situation of aid to the veterans of Puerto Rico," Yankee said. "It's not fair that Boricua soldiers die and fight in wars and don't get the same benefits as those on the mainland. I like that el senador agreed to take a serious look and help those kinds of issues affecting us on the island."
Wow. He really believes this. Nah. No way. He can't possibly. They HAVE to be paying him big bucks to continue endorsing this mess. Poor guy. But in due time his child-like trust and optimism will be completely shattered. They don't give a damn about no Puerto Rico.
Republicans are right-wing conservatives. And Daddy Yankee is a poor blindman. Put the two together, and you get something that resembles the collapse of the Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and (possibly) AIG: an unprecedented catastrophe. When Latinos blindly vote McCain into office, they'll come to find out down the line that this was all deceit, and like the hundreds of the laid-off employees who were walking out of the Lehman Brothers building with boxes of their belongings, the displaced gentrification victims that are the Latinos here in New York City will steadily be walking out of their apartments with boxes of their belongings-- along with their sofas and mattresses. With nowhere to go. Give it some time. They'll see. It will be too late. But they'll see.
So I'll end this with a very wise quote from Joanna:
"I am still disgusted and grossed out by Yankee's endorsement of McCain. Yankee is not only a sellout, but also naive on where McCain stands on the issues. Any way you look at it, McCain's positions on the inner city, on universal healthcare, the economy, war, immigration and the housing crisis will not help our people in urban communities or the working class and poor folk in America."
I can't believe I'm agreeing with Fat Joe. Daddy Yankee you are a FUCKING IDIOT. Real talk. If the republicans don't care about their middle class white folks, what makes u think they are going to care about your spanish behind? Moron.
