This cover comes JUST in time for Uncle L. In case you Tri-State folks didn't know, LL has the top spot on Hot 97's playlist. Wow what a coincidence! Sounds like some good ol PR. What song, you ask? That corny, crappy joint called "Baby" -- with that stupid chant-of-a-hook that is effortlessly sung by The Dream. Surely there is something going on here, because nobody likes that stupid song. In any event, the "G.O.A.T" is gracing one of four covers, and like I said before, Nas has the other. If the two remaining covers reflect respectable MCs-- not one of these stupid rappers like Lil Boosie coon-cheesing with white crud in the cracks of his mouth-- then surely The Source is trying to show everyone that they can go back to their respectable roots.
Why do so many dub LL the G.O.A.T? Because one of his album titles says so? It's true that he's been around for over two whole decades. Been with IDJ from the get and through the years he's watched them lose their hip-hop swag. This will be his 13th album. Longevity in the game is something I can't deny him, but that doesn't mean you're the greatest rapper ever, of all time, to ever live, to roam the earth-- whatever. If it's that easy, then I guess if Fab keeps making songs for chicks going into 2020, he's going to be tagged the new G.O.A.T. ... Riiiight. But then, every rapper think he's the G.O.A.T.
And when LL's album flops, he wont have HOV to point the finger at, now will he? I know I'm talking a good one about a legendary MC, but all that whining and complaining he did about Jay-Z running Deaf Jam made me look at LL as just another bitch-made industry n*gga. An old and bitter rapper who was jealous that a dude that came into the game way after him nabbed a high-profile position BEFORE he did. And on his very own label. One that he'd been on since day one.
Sorry, L. The G.O.A.T would never whine, cry, bitch, moan, and try to get the entire Def Jam roster to join the "I hate Hov" campaign to convince the people that it was Jay's fault-- and not your own-- that your foolish album was so WACK.

this is a bunch of hate. LL is legend but so is jay. I could never say either is the best because in my opinion the greatest died in 96. Wassup with the dissing of southern rappers on here? Everytime I turn around you got a southern rapper's name coming out of your mouth and its never positive. NY just needs to stop whinning and put on some new artists. LL hasn't been relevant since 1996. That was his last hot albumn and that was over a decade ago. LL needs to stick to making movies. He's a better actor than a rapper. LL lost his swag so long ago and his ryhme skills has not even improved. He's saying the same old recycled bullshit on each albumn. That "Baby" song is on so fuckin wack. I can't even listen to the whole song cause the Dream is fuckin the chorus up. I like the Dream and all, but he butchered that song..And LL didn't care, he was like, " The Dream" is on fire right now, I can give a damn how he does the chorus. Well L, that song is trash. And you keep fukcin recycling the same damn lyrics. Somebody check out the track that he had on the Violator 2.0 albumn, and tell me that he aint saying the same shit that he's saying on "Baby" in the first verse. This dude is washed up and apperently has alzheimers if he doesn't remember using the same lyrics in another song...LL, you trhough, and you are not and never was the G.O.A.T. RIp, Tupac Amaru Shakur, the real GOAT.
I've been around for the duration of recorded rap and although I'm no LL fan I have to concur... He's the G.O.A.T. The problem is people only look at his past 10yrs in the game and judge him. The man is an icon and did his best work from 84 to 92 when most of you haters had to be in when the street lights came on. Def Jam was built on his back. First hip hop sex symbol. First platinum soloist. Great performer which many like Rakim, Tupac, Nas, Biggie, Jay-Z and a few others people like to tout as the G.O.A.T. never were or will be and I saw them all. Better take some no doze before a Rakim show. LL is a battle rapper who crushed everyone he battled and the list is impressive. No MC Shan's for him. He also shines on every crew cut he ever touched regardless of who was on it. His swagger was sick. Mama said Knock You Out is the definition of a true classic. 6 fucking singles came off that album! Who else did that?! Did I mention he's a successful author and actor, TV and Film? For the Tupac lovers, if you take away beef that nigga was nothing. I have his first album, I think it was called strictly for my niggaz. That shit was sorry. That nigga was a drama queen not a rapper. He even went to a fag ass performing arts school. Lets not forget LL is still younger than Jay-Z. Who but LL can have a 24yr career in Hip Hop that stays mainstream? Give the man his props and stop hating.

I think its funny how there's many posts about someone who every keeps referring to as irrelevant.
You say LL hasn't been relevant in years but then you'd probably put Rakim ahead of LL, or KRS ahead of LL as if anyone can name the last time either of those guys were relevant.
I also think its funny that someone mentioned LL's 'singles' as examples of falling off. Not one mention of an album cut. Just because a record is created for radio doesn't mean the artist fell off. Funnier is the fact that LL "isn't relevant" but all those records named; headspring, Hush etc. were hits.
LL many not be your favorite rapper but when he says he's the GOAT he's only speaking the truth.
LL's first four albums or consensus classics. Some say he stumbled with 14 Shots but was right back with Mr. Smith. That's 5 Classics. That's a 1 Wack album every 12 year average...Not Lame my people.

What's funny is LL is the format. He invented the formula for selling records in hiphop and is a major factor in hiphop becoming the biggest genre of music around.
