Man. These dudes are giving Washington Heights a bad name. Peep the wackness below:
Many will say he's just another Dominican cat from The Heights. And I say he's just another Dominican cat from The Heights with no creativity. In this corny of a "coming out" single, "rapper" DeX misrepresents my former home, Washington Heights (a section of Manhattan's Uptown) and misrepresents it BADLY. Just as bad as-- if not worse than-- that fake New Yorker MIMS. Hey look! They even have similar name swag. DeX, MIMS. MIMS, DeX.
-------> DeX- "Shinin On 'Em"
This is an embarrassment to everyone from the southern most part of Harlem all the way to the tippy tops of Dyckman. You hear that chop and screw? You hear that beat? My dude... isn't this what L.E.S representative Tru Life was talking about? Biting off the South, idolizing the West and running around with the pink bandana-banging bunnies claiming Blood--- I thought you cornballs would have learned your lesson by now. And even if Tru Life's wake-up call to NYC wasn't enough, I thought that all the criticism that the smurf MIMS was swallowing was enough to make you "rappers" open your eyes. But nah. We've got here yet ANOTHER MIMS. Except this time, this dude is actually from The Heights-- and not a fraud.
In short, I would've rather heard a Reggaeton joint coming from this dude. And I HATE Reggaeton. I'd listen to Country before I listen to Spanish rap. And the only thing that correctly represents the Heights in this song is the reference to money, as heard in the chopped-and-screwed hook.
Wack lyrics. Corny catch phrase. Diaaaablo. How about a song about Haze? Or dirty cops? Or Nutcrackers and foam cups? (Inside joke that only Uptowners will understand).
Womp womp. Neeext.

I'm in agreement with ole boy above me. Why evern acknowledge dude? Reck, I know it's your job to talk about the good and the bad of NY's finest. But sometimes, we just got to let the trash be dumped, and not say, here's the trash I'm taking it out, you know. LOL @ you calling Mims Smurf though. That's a good one.

Wow! Ya boy really tryed us. Well, I can say that I believe that he tryed to do that. The south been holdin the crown for bout 10 years now, and it doesn't look like they are slowing down any time soon. New York, has a long time til they take back the throne. If history does in fact repeat itself, then the "West Coast" is next at bat. New York, ya'll gonna have to hold off for another decade. Plain and Simple, New York is so fuckin wack right now...I wish somebody name at least one new cat from NY who is relevant today...You can't even name one. Has Pappose even dropped an albumn yet???? Lmao. Ya'll still too busy hatin on each other. I'll tell you what they need. NYC needs a hot ass rap group to come out and take the world by storm. These niggas comin out solo aint gettin no props. Fuck Maino, "Hi Hater" is "Oh so wack". Gilly the Kid's "Hater" song is way better. Maino's song is so wack, I still haven't listened to the full version yet. I get tired of the "Hi Hater" saying, and he raps like it is 1990 all over again..."Dollar bill ya'll, trying to touch me a mil ya'll"..Nigga get the fuck out of here.
Clo-fresh, come on homie NY isn't the only region that's considered wack right now. Hip Hop period as whole is wack right now. Stop acting as if the South ain't beefing or hating on each other just as bad right now. On top of that, a lot of their fuck boys are getting exposed currently as we speak. So eevrything ain't all unified and peaches and cream down bottom either.
Stop saying what NY needs. Better yet, stop saying what Hip Hop needs period. The only thing that needs to change is the fans. Because they aren't even that anymore. For the record, there are plenty of talented and good NY artist still out there. You just won't find them getting play in the masses, because the masess aren't trying to give them no play. The industry is shutting all the good artist out. For the same garbage that's getting play everyday.
Same with the South. Real Southern artist don't get no play or no shine. Because of the BS that y'all let represent you in the masses. So it ain't no regional issue. It's the business vs the art. Region ain't got jack to do with it. It's not any of these dudes fault they ain't dropped no albums. It has nothing to do with where they are from either. The industry is killing a lot of good artist off. It has nothing to do with them or their location.
Trust, nobody on the West will be blowing any time soon. They're having the same problems you say NY is having.
It's really corny for cats to say the south is runnin shit, NY is wack, etc. because really, the shit is all relative anyway. Who's hot and who's not - that varies from person to person. Now, there's no arguing that as far as the industry is concerned, the south has a choke hold on things. You got a lot of club/radio one hit wonders in the south no doubt...it's not really translating into sales, but that's a whole other issue. If you want to point fingers, one could argue that most of the music comin' out of the south is some real A-B-C non-lyrical shit anyway. Uninspired production, half ass/freestylish sounding lyrics, recycled hooks and concepts...frankly, the south is runnin' that tired ass D Boy shit to the ground and I know for a fact that most cats ain't out there gettin' money like that, so that makes it extra fraudulent. I also agree, that the true "lryicists" in the south rarely get the shine they deserve outisde of Luda, TI, and Outkast. That said - to front on NY is kind of reckless - there is a slew of great hip hop in NY, but it's just not gettin the shine.. same with Detroit, Chicago, and anywere else in the US. Please release your strangle hold on the South's nuts for one second and stop being such a ridiculous hater.
Seriously, no one knows what the (or where) fck Washington Heights is. Simmer down. You don't have a rep to lose, nor a reason for embarassment. In short, no one cares.
This is song makes no more sense than negros wearing Timbaland boots anywhere but a work site or hiking trip. I figure we owe that to NY too, go figure.
Blog entry = Words from a Clown
Rap Music = Circus
Damm homie! It sounds like he killed your dog ! instead of being so quick to judge his style or "creativity" why not research him and find more about him.... unlike your south homie soulja boy his song is actually about something... and you talk about swaggajacking style but you obviously don't know crap! Instead of having all that hate run through your veins and acting like you some sort of hip hop radical/saviour why don't you take your time to write something productive on your blogs cause I bet that the only reason why you wrote this in the first place is cause you knew that this would be the only way to get ppl to respond on your blog...by Hating and having a whole bunch of haters commenting on it!! DeX! I think your song is a club banger! have fun with what you do...
@ Reckless - It's ironic that you called this cat washed up considering the one who is washed up is you - I personally like this song and I respect dude for trying to put out some heat for his debut. You need to stop worrying about the rep of Wash Heights and let new MC's try to make it without the negativity of Internet-blogging haters (ex. you). I'm feeling the single and am looking forward to seeing what Dex puts out next..
Personally, I think any nigga wearing a suit like that is washed up. I told you niggaz...a Champion Hoodie with some Levi's Wide-Legs never fails.
Now, bitch, go do my laundry!

he didnt say this song was about the heights, he gave them a shout out, you should really analyze the song b4 u start talking shyt about someone who you are just hating on, but hey if u have haters you are doing something right arn't you?!?, Grow up and get a new hobby, hating or not DEX is probably laughing at you cuz u just some lil nigga hating i know dean west taught you better than that, go hang urself or something deadass my man who wants 2 hear a song bout haze, nuttys, nemos ect... no one but new yorkers r gonna understand that. Hip hop is universal and comercialized. u talking shyt bout mims but u were probably singin this is y im hot, but in reality you not. Why dont you just lyrically battle him Genius now that would be a great blog palomaso don't hate on a swag u cant measure up 2.
WHAT IS THE SOUTH RUNNING AND WHO'S RUNNING IT?
Does anyone notice how the South is claiming to run shit while everyone else is admitting the game is at it's worst? You stans kill me. Don't defend bullshit just because you live in the are. How many respectable artists can you name from the south? Outside of Luda, Wayne, OutKast, who else rapping from the south is respected outside the south?
I'm sorry, but most hip hop fans are glad their region is represented by the likes of Trina, Lil John, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Khia, Hurricane Chris, Shawty Lo or Rick Ross. If that's hip hop, you can have it.
