Was that line clever or a dis to himself? Brush the dust off that classic debut Wu Tang album. You just reminded us of how long you been around.
A good dis. But a bad move. I'd say that right now, the GZA (pronounced "Jizza") is more relevant than 50 Cent. And that's pretty not-so-damn-relevant.
"One of the most renowned and continually relevant hip-hop emcees of all time, GZA returns with his long awaited fifth solo album, "ProTools." An original member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, GZA has established himself as a perennial force in hip-hop over his 13+ year solo career. Recently, GZA's contributions have driven the phenomenal success of the 2008 Wu-Tang Clan reunion album "8 Diagrams"...
The album's first leak track, "Paper Plate," finds GZA going in hard at a Vitamin Water mogul on this ihiphop.com exclusive.
Spitting 104 bars of straight heat, GZA cuts the legs out from under the G-Unit impresario, reminding us all how sweet beef on wax really sounds."
Whoever wrote this is a liar. 8 Diagrams has to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2007.
And that GQ jab was funny, by the way. Remember that famous pose?
This "beef" is not new, but rather a continuation of a slight back-and-forth that went down some months ago. So why is GZA resuming the madness? Well, it seems like old dogs are learning new tricks. Everyone knows that Fif picks someone to temporarily "beef" with before he drops an album. How do you dis someone using their formula?
SMH. We'll see where The "Genius" goes with this one.
@ The Layer:
Peace to you, Blackman. I stop by here twice a week, now. About two weeks ago I posted a few comments on here and never saw any of the regs respond. It is also challenging blogging on here because if you step away from your keyboard for 1 second the blog will be replace with a new blog and navigating your way over to the blog you want to be on can be challenging if not impossible.
Anyway, I guess people said fuck it - I know that i did.
As for the subject I think Reckless has it right. GZA is one of the illest the game has ever seen but that diss track sucked donkey balls. Now you know how much i dislike 50 and how much love I have for everyone in Wu but i love the truth more than anything else and this joint is awful.
At this point dissing 50 is a waste of time, anyway. That cat is finished. Dissing 50 is like writing a diss joint against MC Hammer. He doesn't matter anymore. No one care about him except the 136,000 fans (TOS sales) he has left. The rest of the world couldn't give two shits about 50.
Anyway, perhaps one day cats will build on here again - until then...
Peace!
This shit is hot to me Fuck 50. I rolled w/him and he fooled me
Wow! A 50 diss? Who cares? GZA is my favorite in the WU but this move here was a waste of studio time. It's not just that 50 is over it's that the entire genre is done. 1 or 2 platinum albums a year can barely carry a label with a full roster much less an industry. SALES matter because this is a business and people just aren't as interested in hip hop like they once was. No sales means less radio, less TV, less signings, less EVERYTHING. People who say they don't care about sales fail to realize that without it they won't get a chance to hear their favorite rapper who can't sell like Nas. LOL! Somebody has to pay the bills at these labels so people can enjoy outdated artists. LOL!
