Looks like LL's been turned out. And by some new school cat at that.
I heard G-Unit's earlier version of "Straight Outta Southside," but didn't pay it any mind. Then it resurfaced. Since they thought it was such a great body of work, they threw LL Cool J on it and re-released it. This is the second joint he's done with G-Unit that I've noticed he's being extra with the "I'm hard core" swagger. Despite LL's for-the-ladies image he's had a history of cursing and saying n*gga here and there, so I'm not saying this is something new. But I'm now sensing a different aura. Rolling with Fif he suddenly thinks he's a dirty mouth gangster. I suppose Curtis is to blame for that. I guess.
The point of this blog is where G-Unit got their inspiration to make this song.

Did Curt just call himself "Boo-Boo"? Yeah. He did. What a homo. It's one thing to see others calling him that. But to hear him calling himself that takes it to another level. I don't care what they used to call him back in his street pharmacist days. That sh*t is beyond metro.
With that said, I prefer the original. Some of the things the Unit discussed were on point. But it still turned out to be a lazy remake. Whoever did the beat could've done a better job at recreating. And by comparison, today's Jamaica, Queens is still bad, but not nearly as bad as today's Compton, who has a homicide rate about eight times higher than the national average and was rated one of 2006's most dangerous cities, despite is small population.
Remake rating: 6/10. Try again.
The G-Unit joint is aiight...not fire, not terrible, just aiight. Straight outta Compton is a classic, period! Certain classics should be left alone, and enjoyed in the original.

The only reason the NWA version is going to always be considered better is because it came out first and it came out in an era where hardcore rap didn't exist yet. Otherwise, the songs are about equal.

Ok I’m not understanding how people can say Buck should be shame.(50 should be shame)..what real man do you know that records phone conversations?? Now they may sound simple and trite to the reader and especially if you never been in the streets but you don't record cats' phone calls and file them away unless you have a purpose of doing that. In any hood in America if you record street N8ggas convos with you and file it a way into a greater inventory of recorded phone calls and they find out - you will be killed outright. I'm gonna "zoom out" from this specific topic and comment on the slightly larger picture. BIG, you've unabashedly proclaimed that you are anti-50 Cent and you are definitely staying true to that statement (LOL). You get at dude the way I do Nas! And then some! LOL. But yo, check this...
1) Hate to sound like I'm playing "Devil's advocate" here (best believe I'm no 50 Cent stan), but which is really worse here: (a) The fact that 50 Cent records phone conversations, or (b) the fact that the conversation exposed Buck as a fake (no money, impulsive spender, in a sh*t-load of trouble with the IRS, owing people money, bad decision maker, and of course not as "tough" as he wants to show himself.)
2) For me, both are f#cked up but both can't be as easily excused.
(a) People can point out how recording phone conversations is so much against the "street code" - but face it, Curtis Jackson isn't street anymore (and I'm not even saying that as a diss). See, rappers like to look as if they are still in the streets even after they've blown-up. Then there's a certain threshmark you cross that officially, totally categorizes you otherwise, no matter how much you want to keep the look. Curtis passed that a few years ago. It's not just the mansions and cars and jets, but it's the business ventures and the whole world that brings you into. It's the fact that he makes appearances at upstate high schools (not for a performance but to donate to charitable causes) and gets welcomed by the faculty more as an iconic celebrity as opposed to a nigger who got lucky rapping and selling sneakers. The guys in a very different world than he raps about.
(b) Being that he is in Hollywood or "Robin Leach" world, sh*t like recording your conversations isn't that hard to imagine. He's on record for saying that his house is wired to record his every move on video - he brought that up as proof on the Henchmen case. That's the type of sh*t that Bill Gates and those kinda cats do. IT SHOWS THAT HE IS MAD PARANOID, and he's got every right to be. He's a marked man. I'M SURPRISED FIF IS STILL ALIVE IN 2008, IF YOU ASK ME!!! He had reason to be paranoid back when he was dealing with Preme and Murder Inc, and he has 10x reason to be so now.
Recording your every move (phone calls, whereabouts throughout the day, GPS-ing yourself, etc.) all of that aint street. No doubt... but Curtis aint a street thug anymore.
3) If we're going to crucify every rapper that has recorded and published conversations, then do it to the fullest. Let em all catch heat!
a) Throw in Young Buck himself for recording his conversation with Wayne when he was b*tchin about how Baby was stealing his money. (Buck brought that up during the time he beefin with em, threatening Wayne he would publicize it to "end his career.")
b) Throw in Jadakiss who aired out Green Lantern by publicizing their phone conversation that resulted in him getting kicked out of Shady's camp.
c) It appears that rappers having a dude on camcorder follow them around is the new thing. And as the tape rolls, everything is caught with the purpose of posting it up on Youtube or for their forthcoming DVD.
d) LMAAAO. However, I must say that 50 airing out Buck was FOOOOUUUUL!!! That was on the same level as Jay-Z's Summer Jam screen!!! And we're seeing the same result as how people sympathized with "Ballerina P." LOL. This sh*t was just too brutal, too cold-blooded!!! Nevermind why and how 50 Cent made the recording... 2) This triggered in me when I just read the thing on this website about T.I. and the arresting of the dudes that killed his childhood friend. The story was whether or not T.I. would be considered a snitch for cooperating with authorities to solve his man's murder. MY HEART SANK. The problem is how this partially-pretend code affects the real situations.
A man got killed (killed) for no reason. That was a man with a mind, personality, future plans, etc. That was someone's son, brother, perhaps even father. It was all over some real dumb sh*t. Justice is about to be served but
This is what I'd rather go in on! The "Don't Snitch" code exists because of a universal disdain against the police department. So to replace the PD, there better be a "hood police" that will mete out justice when crimes take place. When people are shot up for no reason (not even for retaliation), there better be something setup to fix that sh*t. Otherwise, we're just promoting and protecting criminality - and there's nothing more barbaric than that. You're a studied man and you know that law is essential for the formation of any society, no matter how primitive.

The story was whether or not T.I. would be considered a snitch for cooperating with authorities to solve his man's murder. MY HEART SANK. In it's quest to portray and perpetuate street imagery hip hop has adopted street vernacular to a fault. Shots fired, murder, kill, gangsta, body, and SNITCHING of course, have all taken on new meanings where mild mannered rappers and their delusional fans can feel apart of something they've often observed from a distance in fear.
I don't think there are any snitches in the true sense of the word in the workplace or hip hop. There's betrayal and hypocricy galore but no snitches. People say Superhead snitched. LOL! That's just lames trying to role play. LOL!
I laugh at hip hop "culture" because it's like a rudderless ship swaying in the breeze. Nobody really knows what it is because it's something different with each passsing moment to each individual. Just look at Soulja Boy and Ice T.
Hip Hop is and has always been like a chameleon. It borrows, bootlegs and steals the ideas of others and give it some cosmetic work before pretending to CREATE something new. Playing break beats of jazz and funk records while reciting nursery rhymes is not what I call CREATIVITY but some may. I respect it.
Truth is there are NO GANGSTERS in hip hop. For years people thought Suge was a gangster. Look at him now. Close examination of the believers of that fallacy makes it easy to understand why. I question the gangster of anyone under 30 because they had no real opposition. 30 to 35 is a gray area that can go either way. No matter what city a rapper comes from their gangster legends come from the 80's and beyond. I don't wanna hear no young boy who overdosed on gangsta rap and Tupac telling me NOTHING about the street.
Bottom line. If you make an honest living, pay your taxes and abide by the law it is your duty to report a crime. After all, you pay the police. They work for you. If you fall in any other catergory it is your duty to exact vigilante justice.
I stay out of these debates about 50 because I don't care one way or the other. I had a conversation with the dude once and it was insightful. I don't believe he's a snitch but it's possible. Anything is possible. I'm from the old school. Show me the paperwork or STFU. People who say he sent Preme to prison are wrong. Preme sent Preme to prison. There were many witnesses at Preme's trial and 50 wasn't one of them. 50 was a two bit drug dealer like a lot of people but that doesn't make them understand the code any better or the business for that matter. For 50 to be able to tell on Preme he would've had to be selling more than the $5 cracks he got arrested for. He and Preme weren't anywhere near on the same level or even from the same era.

1) I want you and I to re-examine the whole premise and logic behind the "Don't Snitch" movement. It certainly has been brought up a lot on here. You happen to be an informed dude and I know that "snitching" has it's own personality in the Hip Hop world. A man got killed (killed) for no reason. That was a man with a mind, personality, future plans, etc. That was someone's son, brother, perhaps even father. It was all over some real dumb sh*t. Justice is about to be served but
This is what I'd rather go in on! The "Don't Snitch" code exists because of a universal disdain against the police department. So to replace the PD, there better be a "hood police" that will mete out justice when crimes take place. When people are shot up for no reason (not even for retaliation), there better be something setup to fix that sh*t. Otherwise, we're just promoting and protecting criminality - and there's nothing more barbaric than that. You're a studied man and you know that law is essential for the formation of any society, no matter how primitive.
Get at on this, fam. What's up with snitching? My whole point is that it has grown into something bigger and more general than it was initially intended. And people have enslaved themselves to it to the point that reasoning is thrown out the window.

I'm no "snitch movement" historian nor am I a former hardened criminal. But I believe the views on snitching has evolved from a fairly logical one to what it is today - so general that our people are being asked to be loyal to the criminals that did them wrong.
I believe snitching began as something between rival criminals (esp. drug lords and their minions). Everyone is doing dirt. But if you get caught, and the police offer you to give them information on the next dealer in exchange for your freedom, THAT was considered "snitching." In other words, ratting out a fellow drug dealer so you yourself avoid jail time.
These same people were also offered roles as INFORMANTS (full-time snitches) in exchange for their own crimes being dropped and avoiding jail-time. AGAIN, this is some code among FELLOW-CRIMINALS, not your common person.
We all will agree that the police has a history of bending the law and abusing their privileges - no dispute on that. But the "no-snitching" code has evolved to mean no interaction with law enforcement at all, for any reason. It now includes non-criminals - not just because they are afraid of retribution, but it's come to the place that "no-snitching" is some kind of righteous banner. Somehow, it is viewed as betrayal to the Black community to cooperate with law enforcement.
It used to be if you were giving up someone you knew, but now it's any criminal (especially if he's Black). So in actuality, we are protecting the criminals as opposed to the victims. That's ass backwards!
The T.I. case is a classical example, but I break it down to the most common scenarios. If somebody breaks into my house, I'm calling the police. If somebody jack me for my wallet or car, I'm calling the police. I witness a kid breaking into someone else's car? Watch how fast I dial 911. It goes without saying that I don't want sh*t to come back on me because of some ass-backwards street nigger believing I broke the "code." So that's why they have anonymous tips hotlines... and that's also why I mess with handguns myself.
Real talk: I got jacked at around 1:00 AM walking back from my car to the house right here in Brooklyn. The punks got the wallet, but then there was that pregnant pause where they knew they could've done anything to me. They could've ended my life - for what, just to prove they were goons!?! I realized just how much power a common street thug has and knew right there to take it away from them as much as possible. And that was by acquiring a handgun myself and making sure I cooperated with the police.
If and when they catch those 2 niggers, I hope the cops make em "ride the pole."
