Over a Year Later, Saigon is Still Comparing his Album to Nas' "Illmatic"

Saigon still insists his album is going to be equal to or better than Nas' classic Illmatic. But we've heard this before.

If we got rid of these sucka MCs, hip-hop will be hip-hop again. If you come out with a catchy jingle, or a catchy hook, you can put out a record. Then two months later, enlightened to the dark, shady, and greedy habits of today's record label structure, Saigon gave in.
"Pleassssse dont believe that the hold up of my album has ANYTHING to do with me or my work ethic or my rate of producing GREAT music. I just think the once great Atlantic Records has been belittled down to a home of ringtone making artists, like they sign the great jingle writers and real artists like myself dont get a chance to showcase my musical abilities. Soon after that, the whole back and forth Saigon-Just Blaze blogging ordeal went down, followed by Saigon signing to Violator management in the same month. Then in November, Saigon "quit" hip-hop.
As you can see, his attitudes change with the seasons.
Now, he's been "back" for a few months and is still riding this Illmatic thing.
But many ears are not conditioned for material which made Illmatic, and many other classic albums of the '90s. The best thing Sai can do is create his OWN image-- not ride off of the next man's. Most kids nowadays don't even know what Illmatic is. And Illmatic material or not, this album isn't going to push units, no matter what executive Craig Kallman does. The buzz for this disc is over two years old. He's better off coming out fresh, new album title and all.

I saw the video footage on NY1 and the cops beat those guys up pretty bad.
I dont know if i would say that the Philly beating was as bad as the Rodney King incident but i could see how another person could percieve the two incidents as being similar.
Watching the footage created the same feelings in me.
In this country youre innocent until proven guilty but if those guys was out there doing something that they werent supposed to be doing,then they got everything they deserved.

As far as Philly goes I haven't seen the tape nor do I know the details. Philly is called Killadelphia these days because black men are slaughtering each other at an alarming rate. As much as I hate to say it, there are always times when heavy handed tactics are necessary to control those who respect and understand nothing but force. That's across the board. Some people you just can't reason with. I'm not talking about police in Philly alone, I'm talking about every facet of life. There must always exist people willing to get their hands dirty and set examples so the rest of us can sleep easy at night.
That is an uncomfortable truth but it is the truth nonetheless.

Reckless, I hear ya. But I wasn't necessarily mad at the Illmatic comment, if I say so myself. Although at one point, I did disagree with it. Love Nas to death, but it's got to be some fresh faces now. I always say, think about it? What if he does deliever that kind of album? I'm only speaking for myself, but, I think he can do it. We'll have to keep waiting and see. Although Illmatic was and is deemed a classic, Nas didn't blow up off of it though. When he dropped It Was Written, was when he got the mainstream type of recognition. So Sai might be one of those, ya know.
As far as his trek in this industry. I think this should show, that every rapper doesn't have it easy or have over night success. As so many of them try to make it seem. So looking at his grind, I think that's a good thing.
He did have a point. When he was talking about how other artist, when they started out, didn't do it the first time on their first label. Look at Jay Z. No major label would sign him. They all said no and slammed the doors in his face. Until He, Dame and BIGGs started Roc A Fella. Look what he is today. And I'm not even abig Jay Z fan LOL. So there's still hope yet.

Love is such an easy word to throw around. If you love someone or something then there can't be conditions placed on it. Denial is such an easy word also. No one is disputing the fact that we commit crimes. That doesn't mean we deserve to be beaten senseless by the police. I'm going to leave this one alone. I think this cat is just trying to be controversial. No Black man that has ever been faced with DWB, been followed around stores, asked for ID at the Popeye's chicken when you want to use your debit card and the white patron doesn't face the same requirement or has ever hit a corporate ceiling because they don't think your intelligence level is sufficient to take the next step over their more, well spoken white counterpart can honestly believe that we are just in "denial". No person deserve second class citizenship in the face of those that are paid to uphold the law. Period! I'm out for awhile, my blood pressure is spiking.

The stats also say that more Blacks are likely to go to jail and get more time for the same crimes that their white counterparts get less time and likely probation for. Those same stats don't account for the overwhelming stigma of poverty and hopelessness. If you think that racism isn't systematic then I think that I'm debating with the wrong person. As a matter of fact, I'm going to leave this one alone. I know there's hope for the future, but right now is the present and it's hard out here. I also want you to show me those 90% stats that you are promoting in that thread. The FBI profilers state that the majority of heinous crimes are committed by middle aged, white individuals from middle class backgrounds. that's the way it seems out in the streets, because it's as if the police expect Black men 2 screw up, but that's only so they can play their part in helping these prisons make money.
My brother & I were discussing this 2 days ago, how Black men R caught in a vicious cycle, known as the drug/prison epidemic, think about it, these prisons would not become the booming businesses they R 2day, had it not been 4 drugs being planted in our communities on purpose, this is NOT Oz, this is reality in the inner cities, the youth R pretty much limited as far as alternatives 2 being successful, everybody can't go pro in football or basketball, everybody can't be a so called "gangsta rapper" & like dead prez & The Outlawz say, "U Can't Sell Dope 4Ever".

I’m probably not gonna be getting one anyone, since one of the entertainment industry’s main strategies in order to neutralize a brother such as myself is to never send me anything, other than maybe the occasional CD by a white rap group like 7L & Esoteric (which is my sh!t, btw), lest I end up saying something negative about somebody.

When Cosby and Will Smith led marches it didn't receive the same attention the beating did. When those black murder victims died it didn't receive the attention the beating did. Let race come into the equation and everybody is all worked up. Is the problem race or injustice or just police brutality? There's a lack of consistency on the part of our community when it comes to outrage.
It's obvious and weakens any effort to get justice in cases like these. We should be just as offended when the perpetrator is one of our own or as I feel, even more offended but for some reason we are not.
I say there is a segment of our community that do not deserve our support and we must separate ourselves from them or risk going down the tube with them. My loyalty and love is not unconditional. We're sitting here going back and forth about the white cops and the black beating victims yet no one inquired about the murder victims they are alledged to have killed? That's what a preoccupation with skin does.
RACE is a divisive tool used by the ELITE 10% to keep us at bay and predictable. Some of you will never see that. It should always be just or unjust not black or white when arguing a point. As hard as it may be we have to rise above the nonsense. To quote MLK, "injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere."
