March 9th will mark the 11th year that hip-hop has been pressing on without the Brooklyn MC Notorious B.I.Gâ€"also known as Biggie, Frank White, Biggie Smalls, or Big Poppa.
His 1994 quadruple-platinum debut album Ready to Die, which reigned supreme even during the grand-slam takeover of West Coast hip-hop, produced hits such as “Juicy,†“Big Poppa,†and “One More Chance,†among many others.
The diamond-selling Life After Death was the 1997 follow-up that Biggie never even got to see hit the shelves. The double disc dropped two weeks after his death, and “Hypnotize†was the only video for this album that he was to appear in. “Mo Money Mo Problems†and “The Sky is the Limit†had to be done without him, of course, as March 9th, 1997 was the day that Biggie was shot in a vehicle after leaving a Soul Train Music Awards after-party in L.A.
Can’t forget about Junior M.A.F.I.Aâ€"a crew consisting of the most notable members Lil Kim and Lil Ceaseâ€"who in 1995 succeeded with the major noise made by their Biggie-featured hits “Player’s Anthem†and “Get Money.†These singles helped to boost Mafia’s one and only album, entitled Conspiracy, to gold-certified status. From there, jumpoff Lil Kim dropped her 1996 debut album Hard Coreâ€"an effort that was constructed closely under Biggie’s watchâ€"and lyricsâ€"and reached multi-platinum status.

I wonder why Reckless felt the need to lie about Biggie's sales? Ready to Die didn't go 4x plat and Life After Death went no way near diamond.
It's funny how people who dismiss sales as proof of anything when it comes to artists they don't like feel the need to boost sales #'s about their favorite artists.
Life After Death was a double CD so every album sold was counted as 2. I remember that album being certified at 4 or 5X plat meaning it actually sold half of that. Maybe that's where Reckless got the math screwed up. She multiplied the 4 or 5 by 2. OR maybe she's like most hip hop journalist and feel the need to grossly exaggerate to create hype.
Ready To Die was at 2X plat but it may've sold a few copies afte Big died.
The Ressurection was a posthumous disaster that proved even though BIG was lyrically better than Pac he had nowhere near the star power.

Just wanna say that I've been reading the dialogue between you and BigUp2bk and Brooklyn B. No individual will agree with everything another individual thinks or feels. We have to accentuate what we have in common with our brothers and set aside our differences of opinions and ideas if we're to move forward collectively. Otherwise we become intellectual crabs in a barrel.
When I was younger I thought Malcolm X was the man! I felt he did a lot for blacks and so on because this is what I was told but when researching I found MLK and men like Thurgood Marshall accomplished far more tangible results that affected ALL blacks not just those belonging to a particular group or religion. That's not to take anything away from Malcolm but shows how sometimes can we see what we want to see.
Oratory has always been important to blacks in the diaspora because we've been denied any power through action therefore we seek power through words. This is why preachers have such prominence in our community. This is why we vote for candidates based on the eloquence of speech. This is why we love RAP. We admire a good wordsmith but what we should never forget is TALK without ACTION that yields positive RESULTS is just TALK.

1. I didn't comment on the content of Malcolm's speeches nor did I denigrate his accomplishments.
2. I'd like YOU to list one law passed because of Malcolm's great oratory.
3. The only point I was trying to make is we as a people too often equate power and results with good oratory. I only meant to distinguish between talking the talk and walking the walk.
4. The gist of my statement is MLK and Thurgood Marshall accomplished more TANGIBLE results than Malcolm. I hope the stating of that fact was not construed as an insult because it isn't.
Now, I read the FBI files on both MLK and Malcolm. According to those files MLK had many "personal" issues while Malcolm virtually had none although the psychological profile of Malcolm was unflattering.
Under Malcolm the NOI grew at it's fastest rate and again, his great SPEAKING skill played heavily. Upon leaving the NOI he encountered many problems. Without the the strong base to operate from his work was stymied. He sought financial backing from elsewhere but nothing substantial materialized.
Malcolm was a brave man of high moral character. For me his accomplishments were more personal and inspirational than tangible.
That's just how I see it.
I can't wait for that new Game Cd to come out. I think I'm going to buy a copy for the house, ipod, the car, and one to keep in plastic because it's going to be a classic.
