The 50 Mania which was largely fueled on the legend of him being shot 9 times and dropping one of the best Hip Hop album ever (GRODT), is over. He is now like any other good artist. He now has just a solid base but all the crossover fans that hit up because of the novelty of him being shot 9 times (gimmick) that he pushed have left him. He hasn’t been able to get them back because everything he has dropped since GRODT has been pure trash. Further, in an effort to make them apart of his permanent base he started dropping this monkey piss such as garbage like Candy Shop, Amusement Part, Just a little bit and doing love songs with white boys such as Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake. So outside of his base his music is viewed as not very good. He is also now being noted as a spectacle and for his actions and not a artist of critical acclaim for his music (outside of GRODT).

50 alone has almost single handedly wrecked New York City reputation as being the MECCA of the skilled MC and now has us looking like are steroid using WWE wrestlers who make soft pop rap music as a hobby. I mean Paps is so desperate to get on that he joined on to this shit. Look at the cat who pops was taking off; J-Hood. He is trying to get on by dissing D-Block. I get Money was a straight up New York Joint. The energy was New York Energy. If I could sum up “I get money” as briefly as I could I would simply say New York. The joint may have not appeal to many people outside of New York but for us the energy was crazy.

I like Scarface, Luda, Outkast and if the DOC from Dallas, Texas had never gotten injured the way he did he would have been mentioned in the same breath as the term GOAT. See if you are from New York and you have seen Hip Hop on a kind of raw and organic level like we have then you always are going to desire sick flows, ill lyrics and relevant content. Your shit has to have swagger (regardless if street, political or just some plain ole Hip Hop shit- Swagger is a must).

Now Little Wayne (he is Ok) and TI (he’s not bad) may get some radio love in NY but the average New Yorker doesn’t look to the south for the kind of Hip Hop we like. I agree the mainstream shit has fallen off because they tried to follow a formula. 50 is a pop star. In hiphop today, you have to be a Pop Star, or you wont sell. Period. The moves he's making is to get the dough up. And to the original fan, that may seem weird. But thats to sell records. Buck and Bank$ arent pop stars, but they tried to follow that formula. Like I said, I didnt like about 4 -5 Tracks from Banks and 50's last album. About 3 -4 on Buck's. That, IMO is why Sha Money got fired, he exec. produced those records. So yes, to the mainstream listener I can see your point of view. But look at the tracklisting for the Massacre, theres fuckin BANGERS on there. To me, I see consistancy because I listen to the mixtapes (mostly all mixtapes in hiphop in general because the mixtapes are always better than studio albums).
Trust me, download "Return of the Body Snatchers" and Tomarrow D/L "Elephant in the Sand" on thisis50.com and give those a listen. I think you'll be plesently suprised.

They don't understand that New York vibe, just like y'all don't understand the southern vibe on records. Our clubs are different, so the music is going to be different. But southern artists always get looked down on for doin' the music that they do. And alot of times it is bullshit in my opinion. But that's my opinion, other people may not feel that way. There's bullshit from New York artists also. Sometimes I think New Yorkers think that we feel like we have something to prove to them, which should not be the case.

Peace Brother and I respect your comments and let me tell you something homie; dickriding is against my religion and that is why although I am from New York I can admit that we have put out a bunch of garbage lately. Other than Hov's American Gangster the last NY joint I liked was Wu and Nas. To make matter worst our Giant (50) and a cat who has been in the Game for almost 2 decades and is still talked about (rather it is negatively or positively) regardless if you like him or not (Fat Joe) are offering the nation this kind of coonish – musical wrestling bullshit that has elements of the WWE and Gay porn as a substitute for quality music. So honestly, B – right now NY is down. 50 and Joe are the ones out front for the moment and they look foolish.

In term of the cats who diss the south these are cats who lack the appreciation for regional Hip hop culture. I mean think about it. Your winters are not as harsh as our winters are – the environment doesn’t move with the swiftness and aggression as it does in New York and so our mindset and Hip Hop norms and culture differ. Cats in the south appear to be more optimistic about life right now. Everything is about dancing and southern clubbing. I don’t necessary like that but I would not like it in a New Yorker either. We are a more harden and faster pace people (this is not a diss) However, I have always appreciated Luda’s skills. Andre 3000 is a cat I have always appreciated. To me it really is about content, style and delivery.

I mean if you look out west I have always thought that Ice Cube was one of the illest in the game, period. Actually to me Ice Cube is one of the greatest of all time. And to this day I don’t know too many cats who can handle Snoop in a freestyle battle. Have you ever heard that cat just go off the top? That nigga is Bananas.
