A defendant in the Louisiana "Jena Six" case was arrested after allegedly slamming a student's head into a bench at his new school in Texas, police said.
The defendant, Bryant R. Purvis, 19, was arrested on a charge of assault causing bodily injury Wednesday after an altercation at Hebron High School. It began because Purvis believed a student had flattened his tires, Sgt. John Singleton said.
Purvis was released from jail Thursday morning.
According to a police report, the student felt Purvis come behind him and "grab his neck with one hand and begin to choke him." Purvis then said, "Don't you ever mess with my car again" and slammed the student's head into the bench of a table and walked away, the report said. The student's left eye was injured, but Singleton didn't know whether he needed medical attention after seeing the school nurse.
School district declined to comment on details of the incident.
Purvis was one of six black Jena High School students initially charged with attempted murder after a 2006 assault on a white student. Charges were reduced, but the original counts caused complaints of harsh, racially motivated prosecution that led to 20,000 people marching in Jena.
Purvis faces aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy to commit battery charges in the Jena case and is set for trial in March. If convicted of both charges, he faces up to 22½ years in prison.
The Texas case had nothing to do with race, Singleton said.
"We don't believe there's any racial motivation behind it," he said. "It was basically a misdemeanor assault that occurred during an altercation."

Dog...I went to the ER yesterday morning. I thought for real for real that I was having a heart attack. 29 years old. I'm talkin bout heart just hurtin somethin crazy, arms and hands numb...mouth numb..real talk. And that "not knowing" feelin wasn't a good one, I thought I was gonna die. But praise God man...he pulled me up. EKG came out normal, x-ray came up normald and everything. But I'm still followin up cuz they said that they didn't know what it was..and tried to attribute it to stress...and the tingling to hyper ventilation.
Anyway, I say all that to say that I appreciate what ya'll cats do on the blog. You right, discussion is always a kick start. It definetly is a time passer, and what not.
Now check this out for the real folks out there. Not sure if I'd shared the story of how I got wife's sister pregnant when she lived with us, and she moved back to GA. Well that was Two and a half years ago. Well, at New Years...wife and I decided to call it quits and she had her sister move out here cuz they was gonna get an apartment. Long story shorty, wifey had a change of heart and is giving 1000% to make this work, and the sister is back under our rough.
Tough situation man. I try stay Godly at all times, but yo...it ain't perfect and I don't attend to be. So...ya boy is in love with two women, both under my roof...AGAIN.
And I been finding myself taking my eyes off of what the "right thing to do" is because it interferes with what I want...and I know that's not right. But I keep pressin on man.
So if any of ya'll pray, say one for me. I just try to be an open book and keep it real with ya'll all the way through. I know ya'll might call me a hypocrite and try and throw scripture in my eyes...but I'm just tryin to show you that real people do real things and go through real things. This is some drama here.
Anyway man...ya'll stay up. SEALS Ministryz will be up in Austin this weekend supporting the homey Pilarsito's mixtape release party, and building with the whos who of Austins hip hop scene. Saturday will be having lunch with a street pastor of a local street ministry team whose mission is taking these homeless drug addicts and restoring them to their families and helping get them cleaned up. That night we will be coaching our youth basketball team towards victory number 4, they are curently 3-1.
Sunday...I'm takin my sabbath!
Ya'll be blessed, be careful in what ya'll doin...stop poisonin your bodies with that alcohol and weed..and just get out and enjoy the weekend like a grown up. Not "grown folk"..I'm talkin grown up, go for a walk, go catch a movie. Life is short ya'll...enjoy it the right way.
