Hah. Hilarious. I can totally see this happening
First and foremost, Nas is my dude forever, but this better be one hell of an album. If it's not? He'll be a victim of his own dose of ether. You can't title an album with a name so strong, but unleash a tracklist sprinkled with gems that end up outshined by mediocre fill-ins. We see he's really going through with this name, but if it doesn't turn out to be the stellar, hard-core, near-classic album many anticipate, then he's setting himself up for an L that he might not be able to recover from.
And I'm not even talking about sales. I'm talking about content. Most real rappers don't sell records anymore-- they just make good music. What units they do move is granted by their loyal following; Nas has already proven this with Hip-Hop is Dead.
You can't say that HHID was a disappointment because it wasn't. He got most of his burn in only three states on the East Coast, didn’t have good promo, but still pushed near 800,000. Now that's a following. And in addition to that, people are still arguing about "hip-hop being dead" worldwide; the entire region of the South got their panties twisted in a bunch and began swinging at the air even though Nas wasn't singling anyone out, haha. My only problem with HHID is that after the first listening party (which I attended), they threw five additional tracks on there that were not needed-- or else that would have been a non-skip track kind of album.
Of course Nas has an intelligent reason as to why he's naming his album N*gger, but unfortunately there are too many bird-brained people in the world who will take his intent and turn it into mockery. There are too many people who won't understand what he's doing no matter how many times he explains it. And for this reason I think this album title is a little too mature for most-- especially for all you sensitive e-thugs and stans reading my sh*t and catching heart attacks as if you're going to come to The Bronx and scope me out in the midst of 1.5 million people... mind you I'm not always in The Bronx anyways-- leaving the other four boroughs as a possibility. 8 million people + no identity= good luck. So I suggest you not let Reckless extract so many emotions from you. But if you didn't let Reckless wreck your nerves, I wouldn't be me, now would I?
And so the above goes for all the haters in the governmental world trying to shut Nas' album down: They talk a lot of sh*t, acting like they can really lay hands, but Nas wouldn't be the controversial, conscious rapper he is if he didn't get the world mad at him, now would he? He'd just be a Soulja Boy: Here today, gone tomorrow.
So is this "commercial" the start of something big? Or something not? Guess we'll find out.

Yall need to stop being so closed minded.
I'm sure nas has a good reason for naming his album nigger..
He's a very smart dude,I think he's doing it to bring attention to the word.(also to have people talk about his album)
I know I'm behind him)
i totally agree, this better be a damn- near classic from my man Nas, or i may have to stop buying duke'z albumz, cuz hate to say it folkz but HHID wuz garbage. Yea, it had a few nice traccz, but 4 an emcee of Nas's caliber and based on the epic title, he could have came way fuccin' better. The beatz were suspect, and we kinda' expect this from Nas, but God's Son wuz xxtremely dope, Street'z Disciple wuz wacc, and then the follow up wuz wacc. Now look, i know u bloggerz and e-thugz from the East Coast luv to hate on ur ancestorz A.K.a. us Southernerz but hey Nas has been my top emcee for a good lil' minute now and i expect alot from dude muzik-wize. Nas, u better come wit' it cuz ur NY brethren GhostFK iz killin' u on classicz, damn near every joint he drop iz bangin', where u at sun? And i know muhfuccerz iz tired of hearing this, but where the fucc iz the Nas & AZ album, put the dumb shit to the side and do it for the fanz. We the muhfuccerz spending the hard earned bread on theze albumz, take heed to one of our requests for a change sun. I know alot of Nas fanz will agree and i will go as far to say fucc the Nigger album just give the fanz a Nas n' AZ, trill talk. Me and the homiez support the man none-the-less, one-hunned (I call my manz sun cuz he shine like one)- L-Y, NawfWestSide - Screwston, Tejas -
Yall some clowns for real. How you gonna get mad cuz nas put the word on a album cover... when at the same time the word is coming out your own mouth. Oh I get it, we can say it just not write it down.
Dummies man!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOLD YA HEAD NAS!!!!!!!
f&cc a record sale....go back to listenin to rims and booty shakin trax. yall aint ready for thought provokin hip-hop.
Nas is top3,dead or alive. We nid that real hiphop.Lik deadprez, talib, pharoah monche, mos def. Im down in africa, and i have evry nas joint,cd,mixtape, video and movie.Suport him.Cop tht album. If i,dwn in a 3rd world country can,wat about u n*ggers the in the US? Nas we luv u in africa. Even wit money,u kp it real.sohh, dnt hate, participate and uplift. HHid was a clasic. Much luv.Cop that n*gger album!
I said it before and I'll say it again, Nas is a genius! This guy is doing exactly what a true emcee does. Which is to make thought provoking shit. To get people debating instead of shooting. Fuck what the critics say, whether you love it or hate it, you'll never forget it.
You know what so interesting about black people?? We seem to love and adore things that bring us pain. Take for example Nigga, or Nigger, N-Word whatevers hot in the streets right now. Now if your my complexion and someone of a different complexion where to call you that The pain you would feel would be huge. But we seem to welcome when it comes to us and even ( I've had this happen to me) try to look at another black person weird when they don't use it.When technically it should be the other way around.
This could simply be a marketing gimmick or a bold attempt to provoke thought.
I suspect it is the former although I could be wrong. I base this on the fact Nas' entire career seems to have been dictated by the MARKETPLACE not any type of deep social conscience or awareness. His image whether it be dressing like a pimp and calling himself "Escobar" or portraying himself as "God's Son" in crucifixion scenes were never original and were simply his effort to fit into the ever narcisstic hip hop landscape and SELL records.
Had he been trying to send a real message he would've titled his album SAMBO or MINSTREL since that's what every commercialy successful rapper is in their own right. The majority of flops are Sambos too only they lack the originality to break through. One of each stereotype is sufficiient. The rest will have to wait their turn to get their "sambo" on. LOL!
They're all wearing blackface so I say call the album Sambo. Of course he would never do that because that would mean the focus would be on him and the industry that feeds him.
How would he make money like that you ask?! He wouldn't and that's why the album is called NIGGER instead.
Nimrod jus said wat I been tryna tell niggas 4 a long time man.....niggas swear nas is so "deep" but I see him as a gimmick....he takes wateva is hot right now n put it as his album name....like HHID niggas was sayin dat b4 he said it so he thought hey let me call it dis cuz niggas might wanna listen n buy my shit...n yea he got me cuz I went 2 go buy tha shit n was disappointed cuz he didn't get his message across....tha same goes wit dis Nigger album....when people started talkin bout bannin tha word here come dis nigga nas....if gas prices keep goin up is he gon call his next album The Economy are some shit come on nas....but don't get me wrong lyrically nas is top 5 in tha game hands down but I can't help but see him as a gimmick
@Nimrod
Everyone is entitled to their own opinon and I respect it even though I dont't agree with it. In regards to contradicting him self my question is...WHO DOESN'T CONTRADICT THEMSELVES??? Fact of the matter is every person on this planet contradicts them self at some point in they're life. Many other rappers did it too like Krs-one, Common, Tupac, and Ice Cube just to name a few. Another fact is that human beings are not one dimensional we all have our different faces that we each put on when the situations call for it. Also Nas did do a song name coon picnic where he already touched on black people cooning for camera
couldn't get jay to give decent promo so i guess this is his great marketing scheme now.. grow up nas.
REAL TALK BACK IN THE HOOOOOOOUSE AND FUCK NAS..NIGGER.
-
Seriously, who can justify this? On one hand, I don't care if someone says nigger anymore because it doesn't matter. It mattered when we were slaves and in the 50's, not so much today, even though racism still exists, the word doesn't mean as much, but STILL. How do you people try to justify EVERYTHING your favorite rapper, politician, or whoever does?
-
Nas is not a fucking smart guy. Cut the shit. He's a fucking dropout who admitted to studying the dictionary for the sole purpose of using "big words" in his songs to seem smart. He doesn't give a shit about black people or Africa (fuck Africa by the way). He doesn't even care about his own brothers, nephews, nieces, cousins. Ask his family or the bravehearts about what kind of caring, thought provoking man he is. Even his ugly ass wife is the same way. Stop fucking sucking your favorite rapper and defending them. You fags sound like people who defend lil wayne and the rest of those fake 5 star bloods.
-
FUCK YO FAVORITE RAPPER AND YOURSELF NIGGER.
THE PROBLEM AINT WIT NAS TRYING TO MAKE A STATEMENT! THE PROBLEM IS: OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE IN AFRICA WHY DON'T WE HAVE AT LEAST ONE SUPERPOWER NATION? WE ACT UNCIVILIZED! THEN WHEN A PERSON NAMES AN ALBUM NIGGER AND WE ALREADY LOOK UNCIVILIZED AS A PEOPLE EVERYWHERE THEN YOU GIVE PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO CALL US NIGGER BECAUSE A GROWN BLACK MAN LOOKS UNCIVILIZED BY NAMING HIS ALBUM A WORD THAT DOWNS HIS WHOLE RACE! WE IN THE SREETS CAN SAY WHUT DA FUCK WE WANT NIGGA- BUT IN MY HOOD YOU PUT THE ER AT THE END AND I ALWAYS TOOK IT AS DISRESPECT! SO WHEN DON IMUS AND ALL THESE WHITE FOLKS START CALLING US WHAT HE NAMED HIS ALBUM ALL YOU DICK RIDERS ARE GONNA BE PISSED
Stupid ass ghetto trash. The whole lot of you. Yall are clowning ya damn selves and clowning all of us as a race. You must be stupid if you think what Nas is doin is somehow clever or stimulating hlepful discussion and debate. ITS NOT. its just another pathetic attempt by this hoodroach to appear like some kind of ghetto intellectual. FOOLISHNESS. Not to mention the fact that he is doing this primarily for publicity to sell more albums and make more money. He tried the same thing with Hip Hop is Dead and he failed. All this will do is encourage more people to use that hateful word against us & show that we as a race bring disrespect on ourselves. I understand if Nas wanted to talk about the fact that some of you hood roaches use the N word as if its a friendly term. BUT he could have addressed this without putting that disgusting word on his album cover. I saw him on CNN with Kleis and he couldn't even explain clearly, and coherently why he is doing this.
NAS IS IGNORANT AND SO ARE 99% OF THE UNEMPLOYED, DOWN LOW, PEDOPHILE, GHETTO TRASH WHO POST ON SOHH.COM
let that marinate cos i'm not being closed minded...i just have my eyes open to witness ignorance and BS. And Nas is displaying both of those in abundance
Lashonda, you are one house nigga scum ass bitch. We're sorry if the new Nas album hurts your acceptance by white folks.
Let that bitch breathe.............
I am a "scum ass bitch" am I? LMAO. What kind of down low, flaming response is that? I'm sorry if my statement of truth hurts your feelings, sweety. Accept your role in the gay community Coltrane, the truth shall set you free honey
@Horus
Not once did I mention "contradiction" in my post. My point is simply that Nas' motivation is and has always been to make money. Naive people get caught up in the imagery of some righteous poet striking a blow to the system for the greater good of us all. The truth is much more mundane. He's a guy from the projects who'll do whatever to avoid going back. I don't agree with his tactic but I feel it's also unfair to single him out.
It is my opinion that this is JUST a marketing ploy by someone whose motivation is no different than that of any other commercial artist. I'm sure he knows better. It's the fans who fail to see pop culture and it's icons for what they truly are. Our need for something profound in the realm of "superficiality" makes us ripe for exploitation.
In plain talk. The idea is bad but to blame him as if he created the problem is over the top.
Peace to the sista Lashonda but I respectfully say to you sista that Nas “has made you lookâ€. Look at your passionate content that you typed. Look at the depth of your emotions reflected in your content that clearly reveals that you reached down to grab to be critical of Nas’ artistic approach for his next project. You did that because it is an important topic to you and you don’t appreciate any level of cultural degradation from anyone on any level. Therefore you reacted to the stimuli that he put out there which in reality is his objective. You are doing exactly what he wants people to do. And what Nas is doing is really the true job of an artist, anyway. An artist is to reflect the environments or phenomena creatively through art. What would the 70’s Black power movement be without James Brown Saying “I’m Black and I’m proud†or Marvin Gaye during a time of unrest and uncertainty in the country asking “What’s going on.†True artists make social commentary, Queen. What is wrong with that? Many sistas are at the club shaking their ass to some bullshit that does not require them to think or be critical at all why would you take offense to someone who may make you take a look at a word that has a very significant and controversial place in America society and so much so that people refer to it as the “N-wordâ€. I think we have to be more intellectually mature than the posture many of us are taking. Black, social, spiritual and political consciousness is the answer.
@ Real Gay Talk
You are one of the dumbest niggas I have ever encountered in my entire life. First of all Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad were both elementary and middle school dropouts. Having a high school diploma in a white supremacist racist ass system of mis-education doesn’t determine the quality of one’s intellect you fuckin ignorant fool.
Do you have the slightest clue of how many Black people did not have a high school diploma that did amazingly incredible things that could not have been accomplished without the presence of intelligence? I can’t even begin to talk to you because every time you post something it is totally saturated with ignorance. A fuckin dictionary doesn’t allow anyone to bring together or create concepts; critique with intelligence hostile environments; promote critical and analytical thought about a myriad of social issues and have a consciousness of Africa you ignorant mothafucka, you. This is what Nas does and have done. You are so rapped up in this whie man’s fantasy created Gangsta shit with G-Unit and the rest of these unconscious Uncle Tom Niggas that you are just ignorant as a mothafucka. It is amazing and I bet your dumb ass have a high school diploma too.
Your content proves one thing to me and that is you are truly the white man’s nigger. This is another reason Nas needs to put this joint out. So many like you think so much like the white man’s nigga that it sickens me.
Anyway, just like Hip Hop is Dead Nas has started a national conversation. This is what artists of substance do.
Now back to the sista Lashonda; Nigger is not about sales. You don’t name a joint Nigger if you want it to sell, Queen. This is all about social awareness and Nas’ legacy as an artist. This dude is smarter than many give him credit for (and definitely smarter than the dumb ass high school graduate name real gay talk who thinks a dictionary makes you smart- ignorant ass nigga- smh). This is to create a dialogue. This is to make Hip Hop relevant again. We have to think below the surface sometimes when make our analysis.
I appreciate your comments Queen but I disagree with your comments.
BTW, Reckless this is much better than that bullshit you offered up yesterday. Big Up to my Homie and big Brother, E Frazier.
Like so many people before me said.how can we get mad,and we say nigga all the time..what? Its diffrent when he put the "er" in the end of his album title?
Its so much more in music we need 2 worry about..like all these fake azz rappers talkin bout dope and aint move nam gram...promotin shit for the younginz to look up 2
IM GON LET THE ALBUM SPEAKS FOR ITSELF BUT NAS HAS NEVA REALLY DISAPPOINTED ME CEPT FOR NASTRADAMUS HE COULD HAVE DID A LIL BETTER
IM BUYING THAT SHIT AND IF BROTHERMAN PUTS HIS HANDS ON ME FOR IT FUCK IT WE CAN SCRAP IT OUT .
LASHONDA are you black? Because you sound like a slave trader. There is no way that you are black.
Like so many people before me said.how can we get mad,and we say nigga all the time..what? Its diffrent when he put the "er" in the end of his album title?
Its so much more in music we need 2 worry about..like all these fake azz rappers talkin bout dope and aint move nam gram...promotin shit for the younginz to look up 2
Nigger Nas aint Malcolm X LMAO. Get the fuck outa here with that shit. Malcolm X actually educated himself in prison. Nas didn't. He's not a smart guy at all. He talks that shit on tv, it's a marketing tactic. He first tried to be gangsta, then when his albums sales dropped, he tried to be righteous. He's like a politician and you eat it up. You're a clown.
@ Bigjun aka Self-hater
I suppose my command of the English language and my eloquence led you to believe that I must be white. Because its impossible for black people to be capable of using the English language without resort to ebonics? FOOL. I guess a person as stupid and ignorant as yourself doesn't see the irony: BECAUSE I OBJECT TO THE WORD N*GGER YOU CALLED ME WHITE?????????
My people...you have a long way to go before the vision of Martin Luther King and his like can be realised
ANGST IN DA MORNING...
-
I might as well "cut-n-paste" your comments cause I been saying the same thing about Nas ever-changing image and personna.
-
In the Hip Hop community, the only ones dumber than the idiots who believe that their favorite artist REALLY IS a gangster are the ones who are so quick to call their favorite artist a GENIUS.
-
Nasir is one of the finest lyricists to grace the mike... but let's not be so quick to call him a "genius." (Reference back to the previous posts on his many personnas; he is well known for his opportunistism and gimmickry.)
-
WELL, IT LOOKS LIKE HE HAS ETHERED HIMSELF WITH THIS ONE! The matter of the word NIGGER - its origin and history, social implications, etc. - is way too big for Nas to tackle. Negro, you aint built like that, so don't do it to yourself.
Wow! Reckless woke up this morning.
I'm not going to waste my time going in on on some of the ignorance I've heard today. My lil bro' already handled that rather eloquently. One thing I will say is that Nas accomplished exactly what he intended. He's provoking thought in the vein of Public Enemy, KRS 1, Ice Cube, Native Tongues, X Clan amongst others. He's going as far back as War, Marvin, James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone and any member of the Beatles. A great artist gives you something to think about. A great artist like Bono gives something back to the world. Nas with tracks like I can, the entire tapestry of Illmatic and Stillmatic, tracks like Poison, One Mic, Memory Lane, Live Now, My Country, Every Ghetto, Can't Forget About You, The World is Yours and I can go on define a ghetto genius. To try to pigeonhole Nas into someone just trying to make money shows ignorance on a lot of your parts of his entire catalog. If you're not checking for him but only covering his radio releases then you lack any proper context for Reckless' commentary. If you are like the young lady up there, I'm sure she's only heard a few Nas tracks in her lifetime. Real Talk is a G Unit stan so he has no credibility here. Nimrod I stay away from because he's the resident "industry insider" that pops up on Sohh NYC each year. Alot of you co-sign that stuff he says because it sounds right. Sometimes he's on but on this one I respectfully disagree. Nas is a true genius and deserves the acclaim that he receives from not only the hip hop fans but the fellow mc's that co-sign his every word.
Lashonda, thats a nice comeback. LMAO. For the record, the only dick that will ever be in my life is the dark chocolate 10 incher thats currently chilling right next my hairy chocolate nutsack.
I see you werent offended by being called a house nigga.
On the real though, this album deserves to be heard. These rap niggas been cooning for dollars for too long. We need this discussion. Maybe blacks will have more respect for themselves and demand more respect from others. Maybe......................
@ Real Gay Talk:
Wrong Again; Dumb Nigga. Malcolm was thoroughly educated through the teaching of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Before meeting Elijah Muhammad he was not a critical thinker. The foundation of Malcolm’s message was rooted in the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. This is why every time he said something he said “The Honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches us “thus and so†and once he left the Nation he was killed a short period of time later so he never really got his Black Nationalist approach off the ground. So again, he did not educate himself (although he was highly intelligent); he was educated and enlighten through the teaching of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Before meeting the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad he was drug dealer, a pimp and incarcerated. He also sold Black women to white men. So shut the fuck up about shit you have no fuckin clue about.
Secondly what else speaks to your pervasive cognitive deficiency is that I never compared Nas to Malcom X. Because you are ignorant it is easy to see why you made that connection. I took your ignorant ass New York City Public and Special Education Reasoning that if one does not have a high school diploma he or she can’t be intelligent and flipped it on its head. I did that to show others how fuckin ignorant you really are. By the way, I thank you for reinforcing my point about your ignorance by making another post that was yet short but just as pervasively ignorant as your first post.

AND THAT'S ALL I'M ASKING FOR NAS TO DO: Explain what he's doing and how exactly he plans on achieving it. But I've yet to read or hear one interview in which he convincingly articulates and justifies what the f#ck he's doing. The most I've heard him say is that he's "trying to take the sting out of the word."

SO FOR ANYONE TO ALREADY GET ON THE BANDWAGON and hail him as a genius for this is beyond ignorance and blindness... it's pure niggerism (you heard right).

You are clearly a homosexual. I am done with you.
Y'ALL GOING SIDEWAYS WITH THE MALCOLM X COMPARISONS.
-
It's not about how much formal education X or Nas has gotten. Rather, the comparison is fitting because this SHOULD be the work of a social activist - and Nas aint close to being one.
-
I take great offense because Nas has got many people to have great anticipation but is only setting them up for a great disappointment. And in the end, he will cheapen and demean the cause of Black people around the world. The final product likely will not be a new level of awareness in the Black community. Instead, it will be increasing mockery and disregard for the hardships and sufferings which Black people faced years ago to get society to where it is today.
Lmao a muslim/nas worshipper. Aren't you hurting allah by worshipping two people? Nigger malcolm x left your dumb ass group because your dumb ass group didn't make any sense, was pimpin black females and selling drugs on the side. Not to mention, extorting black businesses. Fuck nas, fuck muslims, fuck all of you niggers AND YOUR FAVORITE RAPPER.

No I disagree with that too. I don't believe you have to do that. When you write a thesis or a dissertation you must offer a purpose of study and Nas has done that. Now once the thesis or dissertation is completed one can read (in NAs case listen to) the work and see the fullness and completeness of the work. He is an artist and is creating art. He does not owe you anything more than the purpose of the art which he has done.
Now, I am certainly not dumb or blind and I am not sure if Nas will be able to pull this off but there is absolutlely nothing wrong with his approach.
When is the last time you talked about the potential content (with substance) of a Hip HOP CD....ummm let see.....oh yeah; Hip Hop is dead. Cut this dude a break....his intellect is probably greater than your favorite rapper .....(to steal a line from the stans)
I think so many of us us are being very narrow in our scope on this topic.
@Ernest Frazier
"Industry Insider?" LOL! I've never had a job IN the industry BUT I've had extensive dealings with the industry.
Maybe people co-sign my thoughts cause they agree. My appraoach is not that of a fan so my perspective is sometimes difficult for true fans of the genre to accept. Because I'm not a fan or a hater I process rap related info differently. Am I always right? No. Who is? But I try to show different ways of seeing things to people blinded by "feel good" emotion who seem to be under a spell of some sort.
I stand by my position. He's doing it for the money. He's not noble or revolutionary. He's just a NIGGER on a paper chase.

I am not in the Nation; U ignorant Ass Nigga. My intellect is just far greater than yours. I fucked U up so much that this is your new line of defense.....lol. You are pathetic and truly an ignorant mothafucka. You should be on the Nas CD cover....lol..
I bet the people who don't believe Nas is doing it for the money think Carmen wrote her book as a cautionary tale. LOL!
I'LL PUT MY HANDS AND FEET ON YOU...
-
I don't wish violence or assult on anyone. But somebody should've touched up Nas & Kelis (aka Mr. & Mrs. Coon) on that record carpet at the Grammys.
-
Last night I was skimming through images of the civil rights movement, as well as earlier pix during the days of slavery. Then to pull up a pic of Kelis donning that Nigger outfit made me sick. You go from the image of someone suffering being treated like an animal (and yet preserving their self-respect), to the picture of some bird STRIKING A POSE AND SMILING while proudly adorning the word NIGGER in golden letters.
-
That aint about "taking the sting out of the word." That aint about rising above the negativity. RATHER, It's about disrespect and disregard to the past. It's about not knowing the value of the civil rights movement and all of its sacrifices. It's about 2 coons who are trying to get attention while inadvertently joining those who hate our culture.
-
REAL TALK, I would've done something foul to them had I been there. Maybe not necessarily walk up to Mrs. Coon and slap the taste out her mouth... but at least get in the shot, raise my voice in disapproval, and f#ck up the scene...

@ Homie Nimrod:
Would you not agree that naming a joint Nigger would be the wrong thing to do if you are chasing dollars. Honestly; think it all the way through and think about Nas (who is not dumb) and tell me if you think the title of this joint is the way to get cross over commercial success which is needed to sell units today.
He may have trouble even getting some retailers to carry the product. If this is about paper then Nas has to be one of the dumbest Niggas alive (more dumb than real Gay Talk) and I just don't believe that he is that.
Nigga I already saw this video days ago on a different hiphop blog. Is this what you do when you ain't got no news and are too lazy to make up some fake ass Gunit rumors. Step your game up. Matter of fact why am I even still fucking with SOHH.
So basically, you admit to watching the movie Malcolm X and declaring yourself an expert? That's the only reason a non member would keep calling an ex leader from decades ago, the honorable blah blah. You're pretty sad and you didn't do anything. The funny part is that I make more money than all of you combined and I'm in a top 20 business school getting my MBA which will help boost my 2nd income aka my 9-5. Oh, and I still hang on the block lmao, but hey, go buy Nasir's nigger album you nigger.
@ Nimrod
I'm not hating on you or your impact here, I'm just making a statement. I respect a person with an opinion because so many of us just blindly follow like sheep. I think it's silly to say that Nas isn't trying to make money. It's his chosen profession, of course he's trying to make money. What I'm saying is this. Just because some of us don't like Nas doesn't mean he isn't impactful. The fact is, he is a polarizing figure. It's kind of like Michael Eric Dyson or even Bill Cosby. Who gave them the right to speak in assembly about the plight of hip hop or about it's impact on American and World culture? They are as qualified to be activists as I am. Yet I consider myself to be a strong Pro-Black activist. Point is, if Nas decides that he wants to now define his spotty career in his mid 30's then who are we to deny him. If he has now decided that he wants to pick up the reins and do what he can to bring attention to the hood, then who are we to judge him. If he's so unqualified as I've heard others here to say to step out, then list your qualifications for a great leader. Don't give me someone that has long since passed away. Give me someone now that is willing to take up the mantle of leadership. Sure, it may be a stunt to sell records, but it's damn effective. The entire thread yesterday evening proved that fact.
BK really thinks Nas cares about him. It's so sad. Why doesn't Nas donate ALL proceeds to a black foundation then? Oh, yeah because he wants MONEY. FREE MARKETING. He's all over the news for this shit.

YES, YES, FUCK U TOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

don't worry about somebody finding you. im sure that there are enough pantyhose wearing porto ricans wit yankee fitted hats to start with.
oh yeah, bring Pun back. BX

We'll keep this civil and diplomatic. I ain't about that "f#ck you" way of responding. But I must raise a rebuttal.

You wrote: "He is an artist and is creating art." (Scratching my head... speechless...) No comment. No, I will say this. Repeating, we consumers are too quick and generous to make some dude that rhymes over a pre-produced beat into geniuses or makers of art. This isn't "art." It's opportunistic controversy. It's gimmickry at it's finest.

You wrote: "When you write a thesis or a dissertation you must offer a purpose of study and Nas has done that. Now once the thesis or dissertation is completed one can read (in NAs case listen to) the work..."
*****
Following your analogy, where is the explanation for Nas "purpose of study" which determines whether or not the writer should even proceed with the thesis? Many people are saying what they THINK Nas is doing. But as detailed before, we've yet to hear Nas himself adequately explain it. Instead, his using the lack of an explanation to keep people intrigued to the point that they'll purchase the record.
-
So based on your own analogy, Nas has been irresponsible. But thats about where the analogy to a thesis ends. There's nothing intelligent or productive planned for this. It's just a record. He's ONLY going to be rapping. That being the case, pick a suitable topic rather than something of this magnitude. It's total disrespect.
Let me put this out there. People are saying it's "ignorant" and narrow minded" to 1. Not understand where Nas is coming from or 2. Think he's doing it for the money.
In the early part of the 20th Century when black people knew all too well the meaning and ramifications of the word NIGGER they addressed it accordingly. Lets put things in the proper perspective.
1. Jesse Owens upon winning his gold medal in the Olympics held in Germany said, "I am proud to be a credit to my race."
2. Joe Louis upon becoming the 1st black heavyweight champ since Jack Johnson decades earlire said, "I am proud to be a credit to my race."
3. Hattie McDaniel upon becoming the first black to win an Oscar for 'Gone With The Wind' said tearfully in her acceptance speech, "I am proud to be a credit to my race."
Look at the current state of hip hop!! Who among them can say I AM PROUD TO BE A CREDIT TO MY RACE?!!!!!
Instead we have NIGGER and some of you are so absorbed with the false sense of self hip hop provides you that you call the rest of us ignorant and narrow minded for seeing this BULLSHIT for what it is.

Is anyone following the dialogue going back and forth with myself and Real Gay Talk? He is a perfect example of Carter G. Woodson’s point about how American Institutions of Higher Education destroy more Negroes than bad whiskey. You are a slave. A MBA doesn’t mean shit, nigga. I have 3 advance degrees but so what. By the way, you should always speak truthfully because you never know who you are speaking too. This fool has not one clue what I do for a living. Your Business school is in the top 20 huh. Yeah right….there is no way your Jethro Clampett ass received the GMAT score required to get in a top 20 Business school. LMAO….this nigga doesn't have the slightest idea of what my profession is so I will just sit back and let you continue to display your ignorance.
Oh and by the way dumb nigga; the movie Malcolm X was factually inaccurate. You are so fuckin dumb…..man…smh.

Have you heard of someone by the name of Barack Obama? I am confused by the fact that Nasir Jones might even be considered a leader/visionary for black people or even the hood for that matter. He does not bring attention to real issues in a sincere way. He will talk about Colin Powell needing to resign (at a time when everyone is criticizing Colin Powell). He will talk about blood diamonds (at a time when everyone is already discussing them). This is not a leader of any sort, this is just a pure opportunit who will use any means possible to gain publicity & this N**ger album is just another publicity stunt. Call me when Nas has something truly insightful to say. At the moment, all he brings to the table are insincere attempts at intellectualism. NEXT
Nimrod and REACT have somewhat restored my faith in my brothers. Some of you have clearly avoided the path of ignorance.
