The Last Call For The Last Lyricists Surfaces -- Papoose Steps His Game Up In Last Bid

Pap_9999.jpg

This song embodies all the elements of a song aimed for bringing on a startling revelation: Punch-you-in-the-face beat laced with the colonial trumpet sound. Banger lyrics. A hook with a message in it-- but still hits hard. And the question we've all been asking: "where my lyricists at?"

...And the very dramatic introduction by Kay Slay, of course.

At first I thought it was the "1.5 million dollar deal" that had Papoose lost deep in the woods of carajoland, where he was locked in a cabin for months as a hermit writing down a bunch of rusty ryhmes and recording a bunch of garbage material. Then I thought that it was just the ongoing-- and unsuccessful-- struggle of Pap trying to make the transition from "the mixtape rapper" to "the mainstream lyricist" that killed his spirit, causing him to make such trash like "Get Right" and a bunch of others. Then I though about how consistent he used to be back in '04 and '05, and decided that I haven't a clue as to what happened...then this joint came along. Not the best song ever made. But it's definitely brilliant and its aura is very forceful, making it ear-catching-- even to those who don't want to listen.

This is "The Last Lyricists," With Papoose, Big Lou, and Busta Rhymes [LISTEN]

If this joint was Pap's idea, then bravo. If not, which it probably isn't, then he still did his job. And Big Lou ripped it. Busta's explosive... enthusiasm, we'll call it... definitely put some kick into it.

I think there are plenty of lyricists to go around, but they will never get a chance, because too much of hip-hop's consuming population has been brainwashed into thinking that ringtone and minute-made artists are the worth their money. Especially the younger consumers from 1990 and beyond.

And by the way, this joint has been getting a lot of late-night spins on Hot 97 (and Sirius Satellite Radio) via Kay Slayâ€"of course. So I’m sure the ‘net isn’t the only audience with this joint. Since Kay Slay spins anything Pap puts out, I also heard a very terrible joint from Pap called “Make Him Cry” or something like that. Totally wack. All I could do was just listen... and hope for the best.

In the meantime, this joint has definitely put him on the right track. Maybe he should accept the fact that not all MCs are supposed to go mainstream, and go back to square one.

Fuck this hoe nigga he ain't bringing us back 1st b!tches

That track is no joke. It was really a breath of fresh air.

Man i have never heard anyone name papoose as they best rapper, it seems its all you industry heads claiming hes the truth, he has no charisma, yeah he has nice rhymes but you need more to b nice, so stop forcing him on us, when its obvisous we dont want him!

Joell Ortiz is the last lyrisist

this joint is sloppy, Pap is the only one u can listen to on it (Busta doesn't count), the beat got no groove

I ain't going to front I was feeling Papoose crazily. That boy is dangerous, lyrically. That is a true story. But once he got signed, I don't know what happened. Kay slay got him in gay-unit videos, he started trying to make music friendly music, and the shit just got lost somewhere. I hope he can come out of it, cause lyrically he should be in the game, if not as the star, then as a ghost writer.

Who is this Big Lou dude...he sound like Pun but he outdid Pap. I'm impressed. No one else can go up against these dudes though. maybe royce, crooked,bis...thats about it.

f*ck charisma...those r gimmicks, gimme lyrics

I don’t have to tell you things are fucked up we all know it, cities are reaching all time murder rate highs , the news tells you the story as long as the 5 minute feel good piece makes you smile at the end of your local broadcast like things are okay. The communities are infested with murders and deviants and the gasoline costs so much that the good people can’t even afford to drive away from their problems. More people are loosing their jobs to overseas slave labor by big corporations that give you no option to but to buy their products due to monopolization. But you know things are bad yet you turn to American Idol phone in hoping your favorite amateur singer isn’t singing their fare well song while little Black children in Arkansas go to schools with no doors. You soldier boy, walk it out, and wipe yourself down in the clubs yet you fail to realize that it’s time to mobilize. Revolution is a picture painted with blood yet you can’t even see yourself in the frame of success, you’ve got to revolutionize damn it!!! I’m not going to tell you to burn down your city or kill someone that’s been holding you down for any period of time but damn it you’ve got to do something. I couldn’t even begin to tell you what to do but fuck your boss and fuck mine too. Tell him to go fuck himself or do something today that lets him know he can go fuck himself. Now I’m not some cubical revolutionary I hold my court in the streets but I’ll tell a cop go fuck himself in a minute, I’ll tell whatever polititian go fuck himself in a minute because that’s how revolution begins, you’ve got to be a revolutionary in your own mind for one fucking day and just tell whoever to go fuck themselves!!! Be the revolution for one day people, you are the masters of your own destiny; capture it and tell whoever your tired of the bullshit and to go fuck themselves

Ay, this sound like a repeat of last Friday's blog, just with Papoose instead of Joell Ortiz. I still stand on my 2 cents on both them niggaz..... Niceness is 50% of success and longevity in the industry. Pap still need to go out and buy the other 50% (charisma) from a good hook-writer like 50 Cent, Akon, T-Pain, Smitty, basically somebody who can give him a hook to counter-balance his lack of swag. Same for Joell.

Hello Big Sun, thank you for your nice speech. Now bring me another coffee please, with milk sugar, PRONTO! Someone told me that you suck dick in the Bronx, is that revolutionary, too?

THE INDUSTRY IS OVER.

The intamacy a tape used to give the consumer is gone. The quality of the compact disc is damn near obselete. Nobody uses vinyl anymore, therefore what connection can we really have to deliver that little bit of magic that happens when you ripped the plastic off those old tapes, or when you struggled just to open your favorite or most hated artist CD.

Where is the magic?
Where is the wonder?

The industry is done and anyone who isn't on a major(like 50 cent) or have a really strong following that will fill every venue you perform at (like The Roots) you might as well give away your album for free. Sorryforya!

The end of the music industry has come.

I guess this will give us more time to breakdance and do graffitti. Right?

I was so impressed by your words this morning that I told my boss to go fuck himself after he asked me to do something. And you know what it felt good. Too bad, he just fired me and I have 4 kids at home with one on the way. But I guess things will work themselves out you know. My kids will just have to starve for a few days unitl I have to tuck my head in between my legs and go to the white man and get some food stamps to feed them little bastards. But hey it's all for the revolution . . .

Try changing with in let that mess in your heart go you can't change the whole world but you can have an impact on people's lives you interact with. You just have to get right first though.

Don't get it twisted.... I hate Lil Ay Bay Bay just as much as Soulja Boy, just as much as DFB, just as much as D4L, just as much as MIMS, just as much as Lupe or Pap. A song with charisma, but minus any concept is STILL a bad song. Them niggaz just got a advantage becuz the dumb population is a lil more than the smart 1. ONE

good blog sohh nyc,and from what i understand from the rumor mill, the papoose jive situation fell apart because jive had some old fat white guy a&ring his music and trying to tell him whats hot.thus u start hearing him getting away from being himself and u start hearing weak songs such as bang it out ft snoop and then u start hearing kay slay and pap saying things like, where trying to make hits that appeal to the south,west,east...and u start thinkin that one of your favorite rappers just sold out and is folding to the matrix's pressure.papoose's strength is his ability to make hits out of social issues and making songs about the young black male experience/streets life, anything else sounds forced.and what are u talking about, make em cry is hot and creative, although i found it to be desturbingly too violent

Yo good track right here even though I think Papoose killed his career already. Yo it's Monday so ya know I got that fire!!!! Holla at me ya, I got some good shit posted right now!

Peace to the regs!

Noone hated on them Idiot. You are the biggest JayZ dickrider evar. Fuck outta here with that.

hits that papoose had in regular rotation on hot 97 without a deal...ghetto soldier, hiphop police, the katrina song, the sean bell song(51 shots),etc... after the deal...bang it out ft snoop dog???wtf!!! u see the matrix jumped all over pap with lucrative deals because they saw his ability and grind and his street following from his mixtape sales, dvd's,radio spins, and industry co-signs(kayslay,funk master flex, green lantern, busta ryhmes, violator management, various rappers, etc.),but they didnt want the thinking music because they know pap can arouse emotions with the type of songs he makes, and the matrix doesnt want the ice cube ice t era back, they want to continue the brainwashing and dumbing down of the music.i mean its cool to be entertained but wheres the balance that we used to have.for every kwame we had a ice cube, for every salt&pepa we had latifah or mc lyte,i mean everybodys a drug slinging psycho homocidal gangster, rapper slash r&b slinger,or a motherfuckin clown, this is not an accident, its a set up

papoose is the shit. yall know yall need to stop hatin. what happened to real hip hop? like my man kwest said, aint nothing wrong with candy every now and then, but you gotta balance it off with some veggies. every kind of hip hop serves its purpose. we need balance in the game.

Pap is a good writer, but his style and flow are wack. He'd most definitely be a good ghostwriter for someone else, but he doesn't have his own star quality.

X-Facta, aren't you embarassed, that you have to advertise your garbage b;log all the time and say things like "dont hate me I got that fire"? I mean I laugh whenever u post cuz its always shit and worthless, but seriiously. Maybe you should go back to blowing niggas, this online thing isnt for you my nigga.
Aren't u ashamed of urself? Ur site is tru garbage.

I havent heard that song down here; in fact, i've never heard a Papoose song on the radio down here EVER!! Homie is just boring. We know he can rap, but what else does he bring to the game? Theres a million folks in the hood that can just "rap".

DownSouth.

we been knowing Pap could rap for years. But how many years has he been spitting without breaking outside the tri-state area? And don't use the words "payola" or "gimmick" in your answer Reckless (or anyone who want's to answer) because there has been plenty of rappers just as good that broke out of the NE, South, MidWest, and West since i first heard of a Papoose or a a 'Alphabet Slaughter'.

That wasn't a shot at NY. It was honesty about Pap. Same can be said about Trea and Z-Ro in the H. All of them have the same story. They either had crazy label trouble (some self inflicted), or have only made songs that appeal regionally.

i aint take it as a shot at NY, i was saying since im from there and now live somewhere else everyone got that artist that 9 outta 10 will always be local.
-
but 4 example u got your bishop lamonts and stat quo and shit. and payola and gimmicks ARE a reason. soulja boy is a gimmick just like all them snap and dance ringtoners, now granted i NEVER hear dudes album but i will bet my life and my 1st borns it aint better then that new ghostface album but dude is gonna sell more then ghost.
-
payola- now this aint got nuffin to do with rap but the britney spears bitch got good reviews and single hit the charts................lets be real thats payola in its truest form.
so i think those things are the staple of the wackness out now.

Fuck Obama and Vote for Deez Nuttz . . .yo mama already did

BIOTCH!!!!!!!!!!!

Balack Obama 08 bitches!!

Whatap to tha realness?

big lou is a rican cat from camden nj hes on the come up the dudes rhymes is no joke and dat track is def fire.pap and busta killed it too.i ant hear a hot song like dat in a min.

damn i just red the other blog on sohh.com on how freeway and benie are unhappy with jay z, thats fucked up jay z be doing cats dirty .he wont promote their album but he promote his own.i dont even no why jada sign to them.but anyways yo the big lou dude spits hell on that track above now he has talent!!

why pay ten dollars to hear free and beans spit shoot em up rhymes when u can hear that on EVERY STREET CORNER FOR FREE(no pun intended). the music business is a hustle and if u are not hustling for your record company, then u will flop. kanye would not have success if he waited for jay to hold his hand. believe that.

pap messed up his whole career when he let kay slay direct his career. cat will ride u to the top if your good enough. and when ur not, the distance themselves. new york hiphop will not survive much longer. mainly because of the lack of collaboration and everyone in nyc are tough guys that u read got knocked out and robbed everytime they go out.

First off you need production from Mr. Music Mystro before you can talk about bringing NY back...one of the few young producers who has this NY sound on lock. you better check for him...

Fuck off Reckless.
I see you, you think you smart, its fucking hilarious over here, bitch.
How you gonna open a topic of conversation regarding Lyricism when you couldn't point a lyricist out if he skeeted 16 bars on your face?

Papoose is a mixtape artist. he shouldn't have even gotten the first deal. he came out a backpacker and then switched his shit up to semihardcore. mfuckers don't know son outside of the 5 boroughs. dudes in atlanta, miami, nc, sc, think you talking about cleaning supplies if you mention papoose

i think its time people call out the owners of hip hop labels who do payola to play wack videos and songs at radio stations and tv channels. and also they are makeing r and b female singers have sex with them for air play.find out who they are and tell on them for killing hip hop .

yo for 2008 listen to real hip hop and only buy real hip hop cds. spread the word i no yal out their lets TAKE hip hop back from diddy, jay z, and la reid and the corny south, lets take hip hop back from them lets do it now!!! from online to the streets lets do it now!!

Nobody killed hiphop. that shit was concocted by MCs who are mad bc they are bricking in sales and are no longer relevant. market share murdered nyc MC's. the biggest market for hiphop right now is in the south. they got more black dudes in Georgia then all 5 boroughs combined. that means someone like the yin yan twins or ti will blow more meanwhile nyc MCs like like meth man, ghostface, swizz bts cant sell a record to save their life. to top it off every nyc mc are beefing with each other while southern MCs are on each others albums supporting each other. they tear each other down to the point to where dudes outside of nyc don't believe in none of em and continue to rock lil wayne, rick ross etc.... lastly, all the big producers right now except for just blaze are from outside of nyc... i've heard a couple of bangers from some nyc producers on mixtapes but 80% of em were samples that they will never get clearance on......REAL TALK

who them corny ass niggas? tryin to sound like pun in the most horible way. Papoose rhyme with garbage niggas to sound extravagent.... The life span of a rapper is shortening everyday...
