On the contrary, I doubt Wilsonâ€"who scandalously sat at a conference table with the heads over at Interscope and took their money in exchange for a 12 cover dealâ€"gave two f*cks about Harris Publications selling out XXL’s (already sold-out) image. He’s the one who helped achieve this in the first place.
Then Benzino gleefully sent out a very bitter message in regards to this. In case you missed it, the following sounds like a very blunt, sharp, and to-the-point way of saying what I said the other day:

In regards to Mays... what does he mean "It's no coincidence that Elliot's firing comes just a few weeks before the impending launch of MONSTA magazine"? I'm looking, but don't see a connection.
I think all this “internet killed magazines†business is all in the mindâ€"and many are brainwashed into believing the hype without taking any other possibility into consideration. But the truth of the matter isâ€"and I’ll reiterateâ€"the content within has turned into complete mush. True magazine heads, like those who read The Source back in the 90s, don’t even look at that mag anymore, because the “hip-hop bible†has turned into a 96-paged joke. When I was there, not one person was writing The Source letters anymore. Why? Because there was nothing to say! What were they going to write in regards to? Why they put the Ying Yang Twinz on the cover? Why the top priority for The Source was the (then) newly established 2-page "Digital DimePiece" spread? Dead ass… that was #1 on the list of things to do. They didn’t want us out doing interviews, because they knew they weren’t going to use them. Out of all things for the magazine, they went and got two whole pages to dedicate to video chicks… for a legendary hip-hop magazine. Yes. This is what has happened to The Source. Write to them and ask them why. Then you'll begin to understand why that sh*t doesn't sell anymore.

The net did make xxl obsolete.everytime i turned a page in that mag i saw either an ad,or some piece of information that i already read 2 or 3 weeks ago on sohh or ahh,and if u want interviews,all u gotta do is click on hiphopgame and u can find any artist under the sun.so besides xxl's silly and sometimes justified swipes at artist that arent in bed with them(step your bars up,the milk carton,etc.)there was nothing that set them apart,no substance.even when the old source was goin under because of shady bizness practices & predatory lending from the graves clan(graves jr. Is a skull&bones member)they still had substance.they was goin at these label execs,radio execs,t.v. Execs,media,and the police's throats for hiphop,how ballsy was that.and look at what sets hiphop weekly apart from the rest,they got the jewelry man,star,wendy williams,nice pix,exclusive interviews&news that u have'nt seen on the net yet,and they report the news in a way that suggest that there on hiphop & the streets side.
We all know Monsta is gonna be ass.
These are the same cats who created and destroyed the Source. If they don't focus on real issues then they are doomed. Which they are anyway.

Benzino and Dave Mays was the reason why the Source lost crediablity. Their ratings of albums especially of Benzino's own albums was suspect enough. Their B.S. lost the readers and became so see through that no one could help them recover. The question I have for Benzino is, Why are you so angry? That could be a reason why he not that successful. He has so nerve could someone a yellow N-----. Ask Em who won.

i think your not giving Elliott Wilson enough credit..........when he broke down the classic albums song by song for Life After Death and the Makaveli CD i thought that was dope, even the top 69 hiphop sex songs was dope.......he did alotta dope ass hiphop magazine work an it seems u guys are only concentrating on the Interscope cover thing which will go down as a stain on a otherwise great legacy he had at XXL, i mean i have never seen dead prez on any other Magazine Cover than the time XXL put them Kanye Mos Def (i forget everyone else maybe Common ??) and Dave Chappelle on the cover.
