Pete, who spoke to HHDX back in August in regards to an alleged affair he was rumored to have had with Nas' baby's mother, was the producer-- and voice on the hook-- for "The World is Yours." But that was nearly 15 years ago. Since then, Pete says Nas has given him the cold shoulder, and said that there is a big chance that they will never work together again... and all over a trick.
Now it's 2008, and Pete is on the brinks of releasing his album, NY's Finest, next month. This seemed like quite an appropriate-- and easy-- task to achieve from one who holds the title as one of the best producers of all time and who easily absorbs the spotlight even alongside heavy weights such as DJ Premier and other old school greats... which is why I was taken aback when I heard this kinda-wack joint called "We Roll." The beat? So similar to something I've heard before. The rapper? One of NY's annoying. The hook? Mediocre. The production in whole? A far cry from that classic joint many of us fell in love with.
I know there's gems throughout this album. So I'm sure there was a stronger single to represent the album a little better.
Don't get me wrong, the beat is a good look-- with a decent sound system or in the club. But it just doesn't have that... bang. Or maybe if I hear it on the radio a few hundred more times. Or maybe I'm expecting too much...
