But anyways the boy Joe Budden was on Shade 45 with the Gomez Brothers, where he first dispelled rumors on being signed to Shady Records, then spoke on his “jab†at Hov (that fell on deaf ears), and how he would never go back to Deaf Jam, even if they offered him everything he wanted.
Joe Budden will probably never see another major label again. And that’s a shame. But unfortunately, we’ve entered the heyday of e-rappers and ringtone artists, where standing in front of a label exec spitting nothing but fire lyrics is equivalent to Russell and Rick sitting in front of the banker trying to get a loan for Krush Groove: unheard of.

Once Lyor and Kevin Liles left DJ was a shell of its former self. They blame Jay but no one expected him to do more than be a feature on Def Jam's top prospects and he did that. He's an artist and he didn't even run the Roc so why anyone would expect him to run Def Jam is beyond me. He has a lot in common with Dr. Dre. His talent gets him money, titles and recognition but no real power.
Joe's a good MC at a time when gimmicks rule. It's like being a conscious rapper during the era of Tupac. Nobody's checking for lyrical skills and wit at the moment.
Another part of the problem is the lies promoted in hip hop. Jay is presented as a mover and shaker and he's not. He's a very successful artist not a mogul. There's a big difference. Moguls don't go to work at an imprint like Def Jam and take orders from LA Reid if they're worth 500m or whatever ridiculous amount people claim. He's a brand like most in hip hop and he get's paid exceptionally well for it but he always has to do as he's told for the money. That spells employee not mogul and I say that to say if people saw him in the proper light they wouldn't have such false expectations of him. He's on his grind like everybody else.
