5 Reasons Why Saigon Should Not Quit the Rap Game

1) Knowledge. 2) Influence.

Remember this quote from Saigon's August 11th ('06) Myspace blog? >>>> Peep SOHH NYC "Turn off the Radio!":

"["Pain in my Life"] is my official first street Single off of my new L.P. Greatest Story Never Told....Its a song that I felt I wanted to put out first...I dont give a f*ck about Radio Spins, Give a f*ck about the clubs, all I care about is the betterment of my people and the people like myself.....This song reflects everyday life that REAL people deal with everyday..hate it or Love it, Im doing what the f*ck I wanna do in this fickle, bullsh*t ass, capatalist driven music business...And to those who are supposed to be on my team that are slacking... Dont Worry, Ill carry everybodies f*cking load..Thats just what I do....Enjoy the f*cking music..."

This was a year and four moths ago. And what a difference a year and four months makes.

During this time, Saigon was fresh face on the Atlantic roster, equipped with the knowledge to thwart the Milli Vanilli agendas that make today's "rap" record labels. The above quote was a raw and uncut way of communicating to both the record label and the listening audience his refusal to sell out or jump onto the ringtone rapper bandwagon in exchange for top-priority status, thus encouraging other authentic MCs to step up and pursue something greater than what most true MCs feel like they're worth these days: an indie deal.

3) Authenticity.

When speaking to Mean Magazine, Saigon expressed the difference between him and the easy-bake-oven rappers that are mechanically processed through today's watered-down rap industry:

"What differentiates me is these rappers make it sound like that life is cool, and keep talking about how "real" it is. But for me, what's really real is how I lost all my childhood because of one mistake with a gun. I lost damn near seven years of my life from that bullshit they rap about, so I'm here to tell kids there's nothing cool about that gangsta life they glorify. All these people glorifying it, these kids rapping, they're in the studio all day and at the industry parties all night. If they were really out there in the streets every day, risking their lives and risking their freedom, they would know it's nothing to glorify."

Sure Saigon has gotten out of hand a couple of times since this was said, but we all have our moments.

4) Reinvention.

What is one of the differences between "rappers" and "MCs"? Aside from lacking dependency from a ghostwriter, MCs have ability to take the cliché and articulate it in a manner that transforms its monotony into something creative and refreshing. How many tracks are made for the ladies? We've seen this recycled subject make a complete turn-around with Mos Def on "Miss Fat Booty," Jay-Z on "Song Cry," and even more recently with Talib Kweli's "Hot Thang." But there are many ways to use the process of "reinventing" when it comes to hip-hop. Saigon's talk with MTV illustrates that:

"Hip-hop has gotten too repetitious. It's almost everyone tracing the same picture. If we're artists, and we consider ourselves that, we got to all draw different pictures. We can't paint the same things. And that's why I do me â€" and I'm going to live or die with that."
5) Confidence.

Confidence as in what? …Being an artist with an agenda that was purposely constructed to utterly resist the stronghold of the label heads. And not complying with the rules and regulations of the label robots is how he created an album full of solid material.

In his November 28th ('06) blog, Saigon brandishes both appreciation and arrogance in its purest form while boasting about the quality of his mixtape and his still-not-released album, The Greatest Story Never Told:

"HAHAHAHA, This sh*t is hilarious yet scary at the same time...As some of you may know, I just released a new mixtape with Clinton Sparks and DJ Kay Slay...People who recieved it are already hailing it Classic material and Im very grateful for that.....I have a few of the songs on my page and will be putting up more....The sh*t that scares me is NONE of this material is anywhere remotely close to the potency of the music Ive been making with my mentor, friend, and Super Producer JUST BLAZE....If you guys even like this sh*t a little bit..I SWARE ON EVERYTHING I LOVE the music that me and JUST BLAZE have created is light years beyond anything anyone has ever heard from me thus far......Im almost scared to put that sh*t out...hahahaha REAL TALK, ITs coming THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD...I will be releasing the official street date very sooon..Stay Tuned and as JUST would say, enjoy the music.....Sai Giddy."

Seven months and many in-office disputes later, that confidence is gone. And in a matter of recent weeks we've seen numbers 1-5 (as depicted above) disappear as if he never existed. Such a waste of a great MC-- one that embodies so many good qualities.

It's kind of ironic how his knowledge of the "fickleness" of the industry was the very thing that brought him down in chains and shackles.

LOL @ You

Oh and Saigon is a pussy, horsebackin his manager out the club after "Uncle Murderin" (aka snuffin someone who isnt lookin) lil ass P. Ole pussy ass, bi-polar hoe.

Sounds like Reckless, ole pussy ass bi-polar hoe. heh.

Eskay said Reckless can suck a mean dick from the back, I aint never had noone do nothin like that... Bahahahaha!

What up Reckless. Nice write up on my dude Sai. To sum it up in a nutshell, I understand why he flat out gave it up. I don't mean quit music (he's got projects with Tru Life and Jay Electronica on the way), but quit the "industry" part of it. Everybody has a preconceived idea, of what this game is suppose to be like. Once you get in it, you realize it's nothing like what you thought it was. I know plenty of MC's who got the lively hood stomped out of them, by this game. People don't realize, it's a cutthroat, hard knock game. It's not glamorous like people romanticize it to be. He discovered that in a short amount of time. With where he comes from, he expected the industry to be the same way. It wasn't. He's always been a controversial person, so that's nothing new. But this game will do it to you. Anyway, I respect that he's focusing on his non-profit organization (Abandon Nation/In Arm's Reach). If he feels that's what he has to do, to be rewarded. Then so be it. Moving on. Reckless, you just opened the flood gates LOL. The haters are going to be rearing their ugly heads. I know the usuals are going to jump in this blog (Real Talk included, I only said that because I see that name a lot on the comments section, when Sai is mentioned on your blog).

@RedRum 213.
Kanye West he outsold Gay-Z their is your Answer Joe. Any MC to me is either good or decent but in my opinion GAY-Z is a lame MC and I see that the JAY-Z D I C K riderz couldn't answer me on hovs little B I T C H a s s moves huh. HOV D I C K just keep on hatin we know he's doing beans and others @ Cock-A-Fella bogus man. But whatever JAy-Zs career is over just cause he the paper champion don't mean S H I T a new paper Champion will rise.

I got the real reason why he quit rapping.

After seeing him run on tape. The USA Track team asked him to tryout. They clocked him run a 8.25 100m dash on the Mobb Deep tape!! LoL what a real bitch!!

did i do that ?

5 Reasons Why Saigon Should Quit the Rap Game:

1. He's bipolar and would be better off in therapy

2. He'd be saving himself the title of "nigga with the least selling highly anticipated album"

3. He look like he should be serving peas in a school cafeteria with a hair net on

4. He might be able to join the 2008 Olympic Sprinting Team the way that nigga took off after he Uncle Murdered' d Prodigy

5. Remy Ma would beat his ass in a UFC style cage match.

I still don't believe Saigon has quit the game completely 'cause he knows that hiphop needs him and he wouldn't let us down like that so i ain't even trippin', he'll be back

Oh yeah, Reckless you suck dingle berrys.

it's a damn shame that the record business is doing Saigon like this. It's too bad, because Sai is a damn good rapper. To bad is only claim to fame is knocking the Industy's Punching Bag" the fuck out aka Ballerina P.

And like I said before if you was Saigon you would have ran too.

@lol @ papoose doing a stripper pole dance says

@ Gunot Killa

You right, Saigon don't get no stripes for knocking out Ballerina P, everyone done knocked Twinkle Toes out before.

Straight up, Papoose looks like a fuckin worm. Serious yo, watch that video, he's like a walking cartoon!! Fuckin worm ass hahaha.

"So I look like a german aye? Thats Ok, you like a fuckin worm with braids"

Wouldn't it be amazing if this is all apart of Saigon's plan. His album WAS called "The Greatest Story NEVER Told". Maybe he is trying to stick to that formula which in the industry could turn him into sort of a folk legend with a cult following. Kind of like an early Common! He never really sold any albums but everybody loved and respected him until he actually did like 10 to 12 years late.

We know its you Sai-GONE!

Good job Reckless. Disregard the haters, no matter how numerous they appear. Saigon is the truth, just listen to his gangsta grillz mixtape. Rather buy his album then 99% of these other rappers album. At least he remembers who this music is for (the people), and he cares what he gives them. You ignorant fools gonna kill our world.

One reason Im tired about hearing about Sai and all his hoopla......where is his hit song? And no Im not saying he needs a hit to be in the game, but stop praising dude like he's there. Yea in certain interviews he comes off like the new hip hop savior, next one, etc. but so did Pap on Good Day NY before he released "Shoot the club Up".

as a fellow mc and as a blacc man i want to see sai do good, i want act like i agree with everythang he does but its like that with everybody, but the i'm a retire and have people begging you to come bacc fucc all that braille me,but do yo thang yell

Congrats To Reckless, That Was A Well Written Article With Good Points.....Ima Sai Fan Too And That Shits Gonna Be A detriment to Hip-Hop If It Dont Drop, But Only Thing Is If You Were Up Any Further On Saigons Dick Youd Be Gagging Son.

Look to all you hating ass lame muthafuckas talkin about saigon is pussy and all that you wouldn't say that shit to his face bitch.........point blank saigon is still in the studio but he's not doing interviews and shit like he did before he's goin to drop the album and do some more music and that'll probably be it for the music scene for sai for a while so don't think for one mintue your favorite rapper won't get punched....(Buddens)

Hate (& greed) has all but destroyed this artform that was created out of love...only love- for good music & for 1 another- can restore Hip-Hop 2 its former glory. Otherwise, it's too late.

Why should he stay in the game? So fake ass bloggers can hide behind the computer screen and trash the man whenever he stumbles?? Fuck that! Back in the 80's & 90's the fans and the media had respect for the artists. Now those same fans and media personalities all want to artists themselves, and just because they haven't received the same amount of success as a famous rapper has, they turn into a fucking critic and ghetto paparazzi . Talking down on somebody or trying to find dirt on someone just to make their bitch ass's feel better about them selves. Hell, even you Reckless wrote a wack ass blog about how proud you were of writing fake stories just to make people mad. Its easy for people like you , illseed, Gyant, and Eskay to hide behind your mothers computers screen (I know bloggers are broke and if your not Perez Hilton you probably can't even afford your own computer)trash these people in rumour sections everyday just so somebody can leave comments on your wack ass blog. But the moment the person you trash get fed up and decides to call it quits you wanna write stories about How great they were and why they should stay. Well how bout this..I BEHALF OF REAL ARTISTS THAT TAKE THIS CRAFT CALLED EMCEEING SERIOUS AND ITS NOT JUST ANOTHER "HUSTLE" FUCK INDUSTRY PEOPLE, FUCK BULLSHIT PROMOTERS, FUCK FANS THAT COME UP TO YOU SAYING HOW WACK YOU ARE, THEN IN THE SAME BREATH ASK YOU TO HEAR THEIR WACK ASS DEMO,FUCK BULLSHIT JOURNALISTS THAT GIVE YOU BAD REVIEWS, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT HE/SHE ( SAID JOURNALIST) WANTED TO BE A RAPPER BUT COULDN'T CUT IT. AND MOST OF ALL FUCK PUSSY ASS BLOGGERS THAT LOVE TO PUT DOWN PEOPLE, ACT LIKE THERE SO FUCKING TOUGH BUT ARE SCARED TO SHOW THEIR FACE IN PUBLIC OR THE NET. YOU NIGGAS ARE THE REASON WHY HIP HOP MUSIC IS IN THE STATE THAT IT IS IN NOW. And when the demand is gone and HipHop is really dead. I pray to God that you can stare at you face in the mirror and now that your pussy ass was one of the main reasons why niggas like Saigon quit and people like Solider boy have number one records.

Fuck you very much and have a nice day.

Respectfully yours,

Real niggas everywhere.

^^^^^^*WOW* CO-SIGN 100% MY DUDE ABOVE, THAT IS SOME REAL MAN TALK RIGHT THERE. 'NUFF SAID.

All you haters who posted are a bunch of fags. Y'all have NO CLUE who Saigon even is. This dude is one of the maybe 5 or 6 rappers who have actually put in the work that is said in their songs. As real dudes, him and Tru-Life never talk about the most wild stuff they did.
I know a couple young kids who decided not to get jumped into gangs because they listened to Saigon's music. I also know a lot who are still thuggin and bump Saigon, but they really idolize this dude and try to be righteous individuals. I know kids in that same circle who stopped selling coke because they realized how they're destroying they're own people. They sell only weed now but real dudes know that's something very significant. This is all because Saigon is a big influence in their lives even though they don't know him personally. I think the fact that he's influencing so many kids even AFTER he quit, is enough reason for him to come back. Your black and brown people need you Sai, come back ach.

Sorry to tell ya bruh but, it's been TOO LATE . It's over.

@realniggatalk(yea right),hiphop is dead because of bloggers, hmmmmm, now i know that in your small mind u may think u said something significant but the average person wit half a brain is thinkin, how stupid is this guy,he must be a discruntled wack wanna be rapper that slings his cd on a corner.there was a time when a rapper could go in the studio and create somethin that he was feelin, put it out and let the chips fall where they may,it was a fun mentally stimulating time, but those times are gone because of the tv execs, radio execs, record execs, and the punk artist that allowed them to turn it in to this.

If every aspiring rap artist had the balls of saigon to stand up to the majors or go independent, hiphop would be in a better space, people that dont understand or like hiphop run it,and the artist dont hav total. Creative freedom like back in the day.i was watchin this dvd and this new artist(jay rock from the west)had this white cornball a&rin him and tellin him what to do.

@Allhiphop.com is pussy

Son You probably of of the people I said Fuck you in my comment. And guess what?? That fuck you still applys to you and any other nigga that shares your stupid views.

By the way...I don't have to blow myself up but trust and believe I have done more in this industry then you will ever do. Real Talk

"To each, our own!" I respect your opinion, however, I'd beg to differ. He isn't anything special but a mixtape artist. He never really has any influence on the current music being made. Not to mention, has no temperament of a rapper. Never motivated the young crowd to grove to his music; neither does he make the old heads nod their head with appreciation while listening to his music.

Then again, one man's treasure is another man's trash. Therefore, what you call authentic, I call lethargic.

I apolagize if this post offends anyone, but I'd rather hear or listen to someone with more charisma and the right attitude for the Hip Hop game.

Safety and Peace freind.

@Allhiphop.com is pussy

Your probably one of the people in my comment that I said Fuck you too. And Guess what?? that Fuck you still applies to you and any other person in here that shares your stupid views. Its funny that out of everything I said, that only thing you could take away from that was "HipHop is dead because of bloggers". but yet I'm the one with the small mind?? lol lame. By the way, I don't have to blow my self up but trust and believe I have done more in this industry that you will ever do. Real Talk

P.S Most of your favorite rappers started out selling their cd's on the corners and out the trucks of there cars. Maybe next time you'll think about what you say before you type it.
