SOHH NYC Hot Topics of '07

During the year of '07, I began doing what everyone else was doing and began posting strictly news, new videos, new music, and all that other regular stuff. By the end of the year, I began growing tired of this, and took it back to the roots that brought me here in the first place.

But before I went back to square one, there was:

Nas and his highly-discussed Hip-hop is Dead, Cam'ron and his infamous "CURRRTIS!" line, Ghostface shedding tears-- and discussing it, the death of Stack Bundles, 50 Cent losing to Kanye, and everything in between.

On January 9th, the dude Prodigy will be on the way to the gate. He told SOHH that this 3 1/2 year sentence is really just a little vacation, as he will most definitely be releasing H.N.I.C 2 in March of next year.

I though I'd take some time and compile a list of things Prodigy will need... think of this nice little going-away package as a gesture of generosity during the lovely, giving holiday season:

...your favorite video vixen as in, on crack, on botox, and loose in the box like a bell ringing.

A couple of weeks back, Jay-Z spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his (now defunct) position at Def Jam Recordings, refusing to be up front about his then approaching end of the road at the so-called hip-hop label. Now, an entire two weeks later, Hov has confirmed his resignation, and maintained a pleasant tone in the voice of his statement-- which may or may not be indicating the contrary:

"I've been incredibly fortunate to have served as president of such a culturally-defining label as Def Jam over the last three years," Hov said via statement. "During that time, I've had the pleasure of working with many of the world's most dynamic artists and many of the most dedicated and talented executives in the music business today, including [IDJMG Chairman/ CEO] Antonio "L.A." Reid. But now it's time for me to take on new challenges. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to build upon the Def Jam legacy, helping to move the company into a new era of artistic success."

A Merry Cap0 Christmas...

...From the biggest Jay-Z d*ckrider in the game.

This Christmas card is now a year old. The amount of time Jimmy has spent keeping his buzz circulating by using his hate for Hov? ... A year and a half in total. Plus a little more.

LilWayne.jpgHov2343.jpg

So it looks like the dude Whoopi isn't dropping his Carter III until next year due to his busy schedule with "Sister Act 3"... so you can kiss the boost of Christmas sales goodbye.

Everyday, especially in the SOHH forums, all I see is 'Lil Wayne' this. 'Lil Wayne' that. I'm tired-- and I repeat-- TIRED of the very unnecessary overexposure this cornball n*gga has been receiving. I tried to get out of my biased ways and give this so-called lyricist a chance, but "Hello Brooklyn" went and ruined all of that sh*t.

Now signed to Bodog Music, Dog Man X is on a hunt for another shot at success. The only problem is that he's already released a Greatest Hits album-- another way of throwing in the towel... without really throwing in the towel. Some even say that a greatest hits album is a good way to push oneself into retirement; hits compilations are known to jinx the success of following album efforts, a fear that many MCs try not to acknowledge. But regardless of whatever, even if the volume was on mute, the fat lady has already sung her last tune, which is why I'm wondering what kind of crack Dog Man is smoking to think he still has it in him to rekindle the success he once possessed in the late 90s-early 2000s. The album before his Greatest Hits compilation was released, Year of the Dog...Again, did a total of maybe 270k before it fell flat on Billboard. And it fell flat by the hands of a major, well-known record label, a sure sign that your time is up.

Wow. Cipha cracks a ... rehearsed... smile before the show.

It was on and poppin last night at Manhattan’s Comix Comedy Club for Cipha Sounds’ fourth “Don’t Get Gassed” comedy show. The trendy, 14th street night spot was empty when I got there at an early 8pm sharp, but within a half an hour, the line had thickened by the dozens and mounds of people began to pour in as everyone from Def Jam, to Atlantic Records, to Joel Ortiz, Maino, a lot of the Hot 97 crew, and KOCH stepped in building before the show started at a late 9:20-something. Or was it 9:30?

In any event, the show got off to a good start with an opening appearance by Styles P, who performed “Blow Your Mind,” and his hit “I Get High.” The show continued on with co-host AG White, comedians Kenny Ortega, Dawn B., Jon Laster, and Dov Davidoff. Shout out to Bobby Trendz on the 1s and 2s, by the way.

... and she's got Lil Kim running around New York City like a chicken with no head trying to find ways to destroy her.

Son... are you SERIOUS. First of all, this butch dyke didn't even show "Remy's" name displayed on the cell phone when she made the call. Second of all, I rocks with Remy hard... and that was not her voice on the other end of the line. You've got to be kidding me. Third, this clown was forcing her "East Coast" accent a little too hard; she sounded like she rehearsed everything from the lines, to the tone of voice, to the pronunciation. And that stack of money? Lmfao... I'll just keep my comment on that to myself.

1) Knowledge. 2) Influence.

Remember this quote from Saigon's August 11th ('06) Myspace blog? >>>> Peep SOHH NYC "Turn off the Radio!":

"["Pain in my Life"] is my official first street Single off of my new L.P. Greatest Story Never Told....Its a song that I felt I wanted to put out first...I dont give a f*ck about Radio Spins, Give a f*ck about the clubs, all I care about is the betterment of my people and the people like myself.....This song reflects everyday life that REAL people deal with everyday..hate it or Love it, Im doing what the f*ck I wanna do in this fickle, bullsh*t ass, capatalist driven music business...And to those who are supposed to be on my team that are slacking... Dont Worry, Ill carry everybodies f*cking load..Thats just what I do....Enjoy the f*cking music..."

I remember back in May of 2006, when I did my first post ever (whaddup Hashim!). Nobody noticed, but my name was SOHH BX. After I finished blasting Hell Rell for complying to Cam's demands, skeeting on Dukedagod for calling himself the A&R of Dipset yet failing to be able to sell his own records, and shitting all over Purple City member Un Kasa's corny crayon-looking mixtape cover, the founder of the site decided to rename me SOHH Reckless, saying the name suited me so much more better.

I effortlessly kept up my relentless hate on every rapper I could muster up-- even the rappers I liked-- and as a result of this managed to bag hundreds and hundreds of hateful comments a day ... sometimes extracting over 300-600 comments per post, all full of "I hate yous" and "you're an idiot" and "kill yourself" and "you suck" and "you're the worst writer ever!" And of course, I had my usuals who had some good conversation.

"I'ma play it out till it's full out extent."

Nuff said.

Lil Kim- "Miseducation of Lil Kim" [listen]

Lil Kim is making her ghostwriter's pockets more fatter herself look more and more desperate every time she spits on a track dissing Remy. I'm here nor there with who comes out the "winner" (snicker), but it's clear that Kim was waiting for Remy to respond so she could run into the studio and create a counter-attack. Which only comes out sounding like a high and dry cry for attention.

Jay-Z talked to Entertainment Weekly about his positionâ€"and the artistsâ€"over at Island Def Jam. It seemed as if Hov was trying not to confirm 50 Cent’s recent public radio announcement which said that Jay is leaving IDJ for Sony/Columbia, where he’ll start his own label.

And leave Roc-A-Fella behind? That’s the first thing that came to my mind, and the last thing that was mentioned in this interview:

M.O.P has been so busy doing nothing that whatever buzz they did have kind of burned completely out. But when speaking with MTV, they let long time fans know that they are in fact back in the lab and ready to cook up some new material for their album, which is to be released summer of next year. Not sure about that album actually arriving by the summer time, since they have a lot of work to do as far as building up the street buzz... and the mainstream buzz as well-- a tough job. After being M.I.A for so long it's kind of hard to get back in the swing of things, so we'll have to wait and see what happens. For those who are lost, M.O.P's biggest hit was "Ante Up," which had a remix with Busta and Remy Ma back in... say, '00.

Prodigy supposedly has a blog. And in it, he pulls a Saigon.

remy_blk2.jpg

On DJ Kay Slay's Sirius Satellite radio show, Remy addressed Lil Kim's recent shots that she made public on MTV. And be warned: Lil Kim got what she was asking for, 'cause Remy seriously "went in" on her this time:

"That little boy [Lil Kim] better live me alone. She was saying 'I'm going at [Remy] hard, she go hard to me so I go hard back'. I feel like if that's going at me hard, like seriously, I'm just gonna chill out. That's crazy to me."

This is some footage of 50 Cent somewhere in Europe I'm guessing, doing something very... unclear at a table in a room before his performance. At 1:36 (timer backwards) or 1:43 (timer forward), you can see who appears to be Curtis pop up from under the table, as if he had already peeped the correspondent entering the room and ducked before the camera man entered. Since a lot of people in the business do drugs, I would say that it appears to be a table of "stuff," as homey in the white appeared to be alarmed, and someone in the blue was crouched over, lol... who eats like that? Or maybe they were looking at Lauren London in a magazine.

Hmmm.

Peep the "On the Come-Up" DVD interview with Styles P, who appears to really be out in these streets-- on grimey 1-2-5 in Harlem-- unscathed. Not to take anything away from him, but that's the perk that comes with being a "street" rapper who hasn't quite "crossed over" yet. And it helps to be a rapper with a lot of credibility. But once being out in the hood alone becomes dangerous, you've arrived.

Curt is feeling sexy... sexy enough to judge another n*gga. Not a good look.

Okay, okay. I know he was being funny, but as a dude, there's just certain things you don't say. Regardless of how funny you're being. But don't listen to the bloggers.

Here's the audio with Curtis on Whoo Kid's Shade 45 show [listen]

Whoo Kid: How do you feel about all your records working out here that your other counterparts at Interscope that thought wouldn't work?
