Biggie’s wax figure unveiled by the rapper’s mother, Ms. Voletta Wallace
October 25, 2007 [New York, NY] â€" In a moving tribute to her son, Ms. Voletta Wallace today unveiled a wax figure of legendary rapper Biggie Smalls (born: Christopher Wallace) at Madame Tussauds New York. Many of Biggie’s friends attended the figure unveiling, which also featured a performance by members of the Brooklyn High School of Arts’ choir, who sang “I’ll Be Missing You,†a tribute song composed shortly after Biggie’s death, and gospel classic, “I’ll Fly Away.â€
Madame Tussauds visitors will be able to take photos with and even hug Biggie’s figure, which will be housed in its own room on the attraction’s ninth floor. As guests approach the figure, they can use parts of their body to break moving multi-colored light beams to trigger clips of Biggie’s songs to play.
“It is such an honor to have my son's memory memorialized in such a grand way by Madame Tussauds,†said Ms. Wallace. “Their prestigeously recognized attraction showcases the history of many great men and women the world abroad and I'm touched that they have embraced my son Christopher amongst them. My family thanks you for this beautiful statue symbolizing the legacy of a great man!â€
How did I forget? The State of New York put a ban on the word “n*gga†back in March. According to The Brooklyn Paper, New York assemblyman Hakeem Jeffriesâ€"who I'm guessing is a black manâ€" has threatened Universal, saying that if they don’t either stop the release of or change the title of Nas’ album, UMG will be losing $84 million in investments. This sellout told New York’s comptroller Thomas DiNapoli “to withdraw the $84 million that the state pension fund has invested in Universal and its parent company, Vivendi.â€
“It’s a staggering amount of money,†Jefferies said,†which at least justifies a review of the appropiateness of the content that is flooding the public.â€
Jefferies also said:
“[They are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries. It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word.â€
DiNapoli’s spokesperson stated that DiNapoli “is concerned about this issue and is intending to contact [Universal] and urge them to halt the release of the album.â€

Again, wake up my brother. Universal does not own every major label and they do not make 84 million a day. For someone that aspires to be a rapper, you know absolutely nothing about the recording industry.
The industry is dominated by 4 major companies: Universal Music Group, EMI, Sony/BMG, and Warner Music Group. Universal has always been only a few percentages bigger than Sony/BMG - assuming that they haven't caught up to them by now.
Secondly, the recording industry as a whole is down right now. Profits are way down, and stock is way down. Universal is hurting right now. Here is a report from August of this year:
Universal Music Group EBITA was €220 million ($301.3 million), down €75 million. (It should be noted that UMG's first half 2006 earnings included €50 million recovery of expense related to a legal dispute with TVT.) At €163 million, EBITA in the second quarter was a 7.6% improvement over last year. Digital sales increased about 50%.
That says that Universal is down about $75 Million euro, which is about a little over $100 million American dollars, and that's not including the fact that they were down last year about 5%. You think they're actually going to lose another $84 million for some rapper that doesn't even go platinum anymore?

DALLAS (Reuters) - A lock of socialist revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara's hair and related items were auctioned on Thursday in Dallas to a Houston-area bookstore owner for the very capitalist sum of $119,500 (52,000 pounds).

The curious collection had belonged to Gustavo Villoldo, 71, a former CIA operative who helped hunt Guevara down in the jungles of Bolivia in 1967 and who claims he cut off the lock before burying the guerrilla fighter with two of his comrades.
There was media speculation that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a leftist who greatly admires the iconic Guevara, would bid for the items.
In the end, it went to Houston-based Bill Butler.
"Butler ... is thrilled to own items from Che (and) will display them in his store," said Kelley Norwine, vice president of marketing for Heritage Auction Galleries, which auctioned the mementos.
The auction house said the hair could provide DNA proof that the remains of Guevara -- affectionately known by his admirers as "Che" -- are in Cuba, where he is venerated as a hero of the revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power five decades ago.
Then 39, the bearded rebel was captured by CIA-backed Bolivian soldiers on October 8, 1967 and shot dead the next day in a schoolhouse. Some remains believed to be his were dug up decades later and taken to Cuba.
"This may be the only DNA that could prove that Castro has his body. Gustavo helped bury Che and he claims there were only two other bodies with his corpse," Norwine told Reuters shortly before the auction, as she pointed to the dark lock of hair sealed in a plastic envelope in a glass display case.
"But when the remains said to be his were dug up and taken to Cuba there were six other bodies in the grave," she said, adding that Villoldo claimed to know the precise location of his grave because he wrote down the coordinates.
The hair was auctioned with a few related items to Butler in one batch.
A scrapbook containing what Heritage says are previously unpublished photos of the dead guerrilla went with the hair. One shows a group of rag-tag soldiers brandishing rifles and standing proudly around his corpse like hunters posing with a trophy. Others show his corpse propped up, eyes wide open.
A hand-written note from one of Che's comrades-in-arms to the guerrilla leader saying he had reached an undisclosed location and awaited further orders was also sold.
Heritage had tightened security after receiving threatening e-mails from groups in Argentina, Guevara's home country, protesting the sale.
Guevera has came to symbolize rebel chic with his likeness emblazoned on countless T-shirts and buttons. But many of his left-wing admirers are uncomfortable with what they see as the commercial exploitation of his legacy.
Conservatives on the other hand see red at the pop-star status accorded a man they see as a ruthless communist killer.
Norwine said Heritage Auction Galleries has auctioned off hair before including strands from the heads of Abraham Lincoln, Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe.

So, yes, in this way the use of Nigga among Blacks is understandable. To a degree, there's sometimes even permisison for other minorities who've gone through social struggle to use it as well.

In the context of history and the civil rights movement, a "Nigga" is a survivor and an overcomer. A Nigga is one who was hated and outcast but has forced himself into the spotlight, and in the process forced the haters to love him. We succeeded in the place that was least likely, all while remaining true to ourselves.
