Just based on the chart trajectory, 50 will outsell every hip-hop album this year except for Kanye and Akon. Jadakiss wouldn't even go gold in this market environment, even though the album would be crack.

Mmph, I'd just like to add that your math kind of sucks. 50 sells 5 million in the US and around 6 million overseas. He's about to go platinum in the US in 3-4 weeks and triple platinum worldwide. Even if he sells around 50,000 cd's a week in the US for the next few months he'll still crack double platinum locally which is marvelous in an era where nobody buys cd's. The cd is over with, DONE. A new form of distributing the music has to be created or nobody will make money.

50'S SOUNDSCAN LOSS TO KANYE CAN MEAN THE END OF THE STREET HIP HOP (at least its commercial success). 50 and YE are two different genres within hip-hop. When Jay/Rockafella put their guy (Kanye) against 50 on 9/11, it was the match-up between STREET HIP-HOP vs. Kanye’s hip-“pop.” But for the price of bragging rights, they’ve done more damage than good. They are giving the White buying public and White execs an alternative to gritty Blackfolk street music.

Whether or not you’re a 50 CENT fan, the fact remains that he has been the most visible and successful artist that represents STREET hip-hop (real hip-hop) for the past few years. Most likely, your favorite rappers (Jay, Nas, D-Block, Game, etc) all fall into that category. With KANYE’s triumph, the industry will give even less support to street MC’s (look at how badly most are already flopping). Which of your favorite gritty, street MC’s would’ve faired better against Kanye? He even outdid Jay’s first-week sales.

Hate it or love it, you better HOPE 50 stays successful. He’s street-hop’s best chance at continued success in the mainstream. THINK ABOUT IT.

I'll put it this way. REAL street HIP HOP is at a standstill. The last real street HIP HOP cd I purchased was Life After Death. After that cd, RAPPERS took the art out of real street HIP HOP. Before, we listened because we really didn't know the intimate deatails of people who did grimy things. Now, with the aid of 24-hour news casts, we see it at will. And today's RAPPERS used to be yesterday's EMCEES. Because now ANYONE can make a track and pop that shit on Youtube. Today's RAPPERS are stuck on the formula from the mid 80's and early 90's. That's why when Eminen first broke out, it was a breath of fresh air. That's why when Kanye and Common release cd's, it's a breath of fresh air.

Overall hiphop sales indicate that it's time for an overdue change. People laughed at Nas when he decalred hiphop dead. But in hindsight those were prophetic words. Hiphop, as my generation (the 29 yr old's & up) knew it is coming to an end...and that's hard for a lot of people to accept.
