Nas told Rollingstone that the resistance put up by New York assemblyman Hakeem Jefferies--a prime example of an "accomodationist" aka sellout, such as Clarence Thomas-- is too weak to stop the show. Boy do we have too many oreos with power.
"It's the new act of hate," said Nas, "and probably because of Barack Obama, people's ignorance and fear and jealousy is creating an outrage throughout the country, and people are reacting by putting nooses up. It's been a really serious year."
"It's probably going to make people uncomfortable," Nas said of his upcoming album, N*gger. "I don't expect a lot of people to sell a record called N*gger. Hopefully, people can open their minds up and lose some of their fear and deal with it. It's just an album. It's one piece of the many things I do, and this will be one of my favorite pieces."Say word. Well he's already got the entire nation talking about it. I'm guessing about a pinch of that population will actually buy the album.
"It will be certain record stores that will be scared to deal with it. The record label is gung ho, and it's ready to go."

Speaking with MTV, Jay had some news to dish on Kiss and the deal they're working out with Roc-A-Fella.:
"Well, I've been actually trying to get Jadakiss to come to Roc-A-Fella/Ruff Ryders for a minute," he said. "It's not done. It's in the final stages, though. I spoke to [co-CEO] Dee [Dean] and all of them about doing something really special with a Roc-A-Fella/ Ruff Ryders collaboration."
As far as Jay's new movie coming out, which has nothing to do with next week's box office opening of "American Gangster":
"I'mma shoot a video [to "Roc Boys"] but try to shoot it [so that] I can add scenes from it into the movie. It's gonna take a minute to get this movie together; writing it and getting the right people to do it."

On October 30th, 2002, the DJ of legendary rap duo RUN-DMC was shot and killed in a Queens recording studio. He is known personally as Jason Mizell, but is even more widely known as Jam Master Jay. It has now been exactly five years on the nose, and his murder-- much like that of other murdered hip-hop artists-- has not been solved. This is no coincidence.
Rest in paradise to 2Pac, Biggie, Big L, Stack Bundles, and many others... who still await justice.

SAIGON IN A FIGHT?
Saigon getting in a massive brawl? No way! Well, here is what I heard happened at the The Hudson House in Nyack, NY. Rumor has it, Saigon was involved in a huge brawl. I heard the rapper was attacked and the fight stormed out of the bar onto the street, where bottles were being broken. It was supposedly a fight between Spring Valley people and Nyack people. I wouldn’t know about all the local hood politics in Upstate New York. I also heard Saigon was choked by the police officers by way of a nightstick. I also heard Sai was cuffed. I don’t know that anybody else in the vicinity was apprehended by the Orange Town Police. I am shocked that this has not gotten out yet. (Shout out to RenniSouf.)
Nas is doing this as a publicity stunt because his albums in the last 4 years have not sold well. Even hip is dead did only gold and did not go platinum. Nas has a good following but never really sells any records anymore. It is a smart marketing move / gimmick by him and Def Jam. If it was 50 cent naming his album that all the haters would say it is a publicity stunt but yet they give Nas a free pass. The haters are something else.

Ask yourself this, based on 50 Cent(the guy whose career is based on beef)content,l. do you really think if his album went by that title it would have been something really meaningful? Its not guarannted, but at least with Nas's history, there is the strong possibility that this album could really bring in a new prospective in hip hop. Personally with the exception of a few, if it was any other rapper I would think that the title was chosen totally for promotion. However with Nas I think, the offensive and controversal title is appropiate in these times.
I would look at it like a rap version of the Boondocks, where its highly offensive and controversial is at such high levels you pay attention and it brings about introspection.

and fuck all snitches
Dennis Rodman was right to say, that he didn't identify himself with what was perceived as black culture, cuz I mean, we went from opressed, racially abused, and everything bad against us to complete morons, idiots. Can U believe that? We're in the streets with T-shirts reading "No snitching", and when the media (O'reilly for instance, don't care how idiot the man is, cuz he got a point) shoot at us, what do black people say?, "they don't understand our culture", I am losing my mind, since when supporting a criminal is a good thing?
The other idiot is NAS, and next time when larry king will pronounce the title of your album, will U also ask for his ass to be fired? Nas who tries to educate, ROFL, I remember when 50 dropped the massacre, Nas said that 50 was a bad influence for the youth,ROFL, this is a man who smokes weed, who is a partisan of the "NO SNITCHING CAMPAIGN", well 50 raps about shooting people, but so far the idiots who get caught carrying guns are TI, Prodigy, the list goes on,... and people have the audacity to talk about the hip hop police? Man stop the crap, if they ever exist, they sure have a good reason, Why do rappers keep criminals around them? Why do they carry guns? what do they expect?A criminal is a criminal, period, and when you have those bad people around you, you will get yourself in trouble.
It kills me to say that, but maybe, really maybe black people were born to stay behind, cuz everything we do and support is beyond bad, we did support Tookie William(lol), that one made me realise how dumb we've come to be, the man was a KILLER!!!!!, who's the other one? Oh! Vick( let's be clear, I hate dogs, and I will have no problems killing them all), but in a the USA, there's rules we have to respect them, dogs fighting is prohibited, don't do it then, especially when you earn more than 10 mill, he needs to go to jail, no pity for him, and now what do we get" they're after because he's black and successfull, cut the crap, they're after him, because he's an idiot)
And, the best story, the gang mentality, look Snoop dogg is my favourite rapper of all time, (cuz for me music is not life, music isn't supposed to guide you through your life, you listen music to have fun, relax etc..., not to go shooting at people, doing drugs,... that's why I will always stand as a supporter of HIP HOP, the same way I support punk rock and Trance music),back to snoop, although I love him as a musician, I am sure that in his real life HE IS A COMPLETE MORON, I mean the man is dumb, with his crip thing, lol, it's easy to talk about it when your kids are safe, send them in the ghetto for a month and let's talk. Talking about pimpin' hoes, I mean in the music, that was funny(well I guess I never quite realised that people were actually doing it), but admitting that he's being at some point, ROFL, he's an idiot, and when asked a question about how he would react if that was his daughter was pimp'd, he said........let's just say he should be thrown in jail, oh yeah also for doing drugs, which every black people think they supposed to do, smoking illegal substances, and they call Diddy and 50 soft for not smoking.
It's time to finish, I am proud to be a black man, i never lived in the ghetto, have no idea of what it is like, but I know one thing, if we black people keep on feeding the madness that is happening in our community, we will always be living in this misery.
Tony Blair, said one thing that stuck with me , he said " Throughout the years, regardless of what happened in their history, all continents have managed to develop themselves, against all the obstacles that they might have faced, they've been able to find a way to overcome them, except AFRICA". African American don't wanna be indentify with africans people, but the funny part is that what he said resume Black people in America.
what does this say about the mindstate of Blacks?
think about it, we're quick 2 defend a perverted fuck like U know who, on the strength of his music, but then condemn an intelligent brother like Nas over the title of his album?
SMH

WHAT!?! Because a politician refuses to support a hip-hop artists' selfish publicity stunt of promoting more self-hate and degredation of the Black culture HES A SELLOUT???.
Fool, THINK before you write words like that. And remember that in your pathetic attempt to also be "controversial" you're helping to corrupt the minds of the uneducated youngins that read these posts.
IT'S JUST MUSIC, PEOPLE. DON'T GET THIS CONFUSED WITH REAL LIFE and how progress and solutions are made in society. Thousands of civil rights protesters didn't suffer and die so some musician can make light of the struggle (and essentially piss on their graves).
I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND the double-standard to Black people being able to call one another "Nigga" in an non-offensive way. But on the big stage that is society, there's a limit; there's a right and wrong.
DON'T TAKE THESE JOKERS SO SERIOUSLY. They're not really dedicated to the cause, they're not really "spiritual" or "intellectual" as they say they are...

Lawless In Seattle
With all the talk about Hip Hop Cops following and framing our favorite rappers, its easy to forget that the most dangerous task force are the Anti-Hip Hop Cops.
For example, look at Seattle, Washington. Now, most of us only remember Seattle as the city that Sir Mix-A-Lot calls home and the birthplace of Grunge music. While some you may remember it as the city that had an unspoken 5-year ban on Ice Cube concerts in the early and mid-90’s where local police refused to provide security for his shows, thus making the concerts null and void.
Well, over the last year or so Seattle is becoming known as a place synonymous with police harassment and brutality, with its latest instance directly effecting the Hip Hop community.
Last year, Seattle Hip Hop icon, DJ and Rock Steady Crew member Toby Christian a.k.a. DV One was attacked by the police. The incident happened when Christian was going to pick up his daughter from a football game, only to see that she was being detained by police officers. As any concerned parent would do, he ran over to see what was going on. Evidently his daughter was being detained for not following officers demands to get out of the street, blocking traffic.
When DV got there, he was met by a female police officer, Daina Boggs, who blocked him from his daughter who at this point was pinned against a cop car with her arm behind her back.
According to DV’s personal account:
He identified himself as the child’s parent and Boggs replied “So what?†After that she pulled a flashlight out on him and he backed away with his arms up. Boggs, for whatever reason, feels threatened and calls for back up. More officers approach DV One who has turned his back to avoid being shot or attacked (so he thought) and is slammed to the ground and kicked numerous times in the head and body until he was swollen and bruised. He is then tased twice, beaten more and then handcuffed and told he would have his arm broken “for hitting a female police officer.†After that, the police officers stand over him, search him and then take he and his daughter into custody amidst threats like “how you liked being tased-did it fell good?†and “this is going to be another felony on your record and you’re going to prison now, boy.†[The officer is apparently referring to this.]
Boggs, the female officer, maintains that: DV rushed her, hit her in the face, pushed her backwards and they both ended up on the ground in a tussle. At this point she claims that DV put her in a bear hug as she radioed for help. Its at this point that the other officers showed up and proceeded to do what they do best.
Now, I believe that there are 3 sides to every story. This side, that side and the truth. I wasn’t there to see it go down, but I want to go ahead and assume that DV didn’t so something as foolish as to actually put his hands on a cop.
But the fact does remain that regardless of what he did, he was assaulted by cops using excessive force and then charged with Thrid-Degree assault! Yes, he, the guy that was beatdown was charged with Third-Degree assault. Of course, DV pleaded not guilty.
After months of pushed back trial dates (because the officers involved either refused or were not available to testify) the case finally hit the courts two weeks ago. DV was found guilty last Friday and faces 5 years in prison.
There is more than meets the eye in this case though. One, DV’s lawyer was fighting another battle in trying to get a balanced jury to try the case. She argued that since felons are not allowed to sit on juries, their was a disproportionate number of African-American disqualified from being jurors in the case. The jury make up was also affected by the number of people who weren’t qualified because of unpaid court fines. The end result was a jury that was made up of 9 Whites and 3 non-Whites. None of them African-American.
In addition to that, the jurors in the case have even second guessed their judgement in the case and plan to be in attendance to show support for DV One at his sentencing.
So far there has been a good amount of support for DV One in this case, but I’m sure that he could always use more, especially now that he is facing sentencing.
If you feel compelled to say or do something, you can start by calling or writing his lawyer, Lisa Daugaard who plans to attach all letters to a pre-sentence report to hopefully sway the judge’s actions and eventually appeal the ruling.

nah you dont get it
the same way you talking down on "blacks from the hood" and all that shit is the same way reckless made that ignorant ass comment
both are you all are the same just on opposite ends of the spectrum
Let Nas and any other musician say what they want on wax for entertainment purposes... BUT WHEN IT BECOMES A SOCIAL/COMMUNITY ISSUE, they need to learn how to fall back.
Ease up and sit the f#ck down. This aint entertainment anymore and you aint built for this. Who da f#ck is Nas or any other "musician" to speak for the Black culture as a whole and tell people to "move on" when it's clear that as a culture in this still prejudice society, NOBODY'S READY TO.
So you mean to tell me that after his record drop, and some racist cop decide to harass a Black man and call him "Nigger" that the Black man will say, "Oh that don't mean anything at all because Nas helped us take the sting out."
GTFOH.
--a prime example of an "accomodationist" aka sellout, such as Clarence Thomas--
Wow. All I can say is WOW. Clarence Thomas is quite arguably the most powerful BLACK man in this country today. You call him a sellout because the media and racist DEMONCRAT crackers call him a sellout. But we all want our kids to focus on sports and music. Be like Mike. Play sports because that's the only way to get out of the hood. Pick up a microphone. Slang crack. Hell, turn your young sons into pimps and teach your young daughters to shake that ass on Youtube.
You can say what you wanna say, but Clarence Thomas should be the model for all Black kids in America. That guy decides on laws that really affect the population. Your average favorite RAPPER makes music that has absolutly have no long-term-POSITIVE impact on the BLACK youth.
Big ups to Nas for at least sticking to his guns. But, I predict that most of you will join with these LIBERAL bastards who will try to shut down a whole record company because of a cd title.
Remember:
Liberals = CENSORSHIP. Don't believe me? Research those stupid-assed parental advisory stickers on cd covers. TIPPER GORE did that.

@ Brooklyn_B. you wrote: nah you dont get it
the same way you talking down on "blacks from the hood" and all that shit is the same way reckless made that ignorant ass comment
both are you all are the same just on opposite ends of the spectrum

Sup, my dude. First off, this aint about me "talkin down Blacks from the hood" as it is about me shootin at the IGNORANCE OF SELF-DEGREDATION and the mentality that many (whether in the hood or suburbs) have concerning "Blackness" vs. stereotypes.
I'm currently living in Brooklyn and there are plenty of Black Brooklynites who think totally opposite to the sh#t Nas is trying to put out. I've lived in the suburbs as well and there you also have Black kids who have bought into this ignorance. They think that BEING Black means you should be anti-education and pro-crime. They feel that anything other would make them an "oreo" or "sell-out."
AND THAT'S WHY I'M HOT OVER THIS ARTICLE. To simply connect people who oppose Nas' gimmick as them being "oreos" and "sell-outs" is the type of thinking I'd expect from insecure, close-minded punks.
Damn!
I met Common while I was on my 10 o'clock break, he's a cool brother.

BY STATING THAT HE IS GOING TO TAKE THE STING OUT OF THE WORD. That's that "high and mighty" talk that makes me so mad. How da f#ck is HE able to do that?... by an album title and some songs??? and who told him that there aren't Blacks who still take offense to the slur and don't want it commercialized???
Folks like Sharpton and Jesse are not real leaders either (in fact, we don't need a poster child in this day and age)... but at least they're on the right side of this argument.
F#CK!!! WHERE'S THIS "RECKLESS" B*TCH THAT MADE THOSE COMMENTS?
LOL @ Trademarkâ„¢ for saying Uncle Clarence Thomas ISNT a sellout. He's the most "powerful" black man in America, and what has he done for the hood? I dont see it. If Clarance Thomas cared about black people, he would be more vocal about how he GOT TO WHERE HE IS. He aint droppin no knowledge. Thats the problem. Little bougie ass niggas run to the suburbs, get white girls, and wonder why we call them oreos and sellouts. What did you do for anybody besides yourself? Im sure he has participated in "charities", but thats burecratic political bullshit. He aint helpin shit. Scary ass bougie people run to the burbs, wouldnt it be more effective if they STAYED in the actual black community to show kids there are successful people in the hood?

what up
i do agree that the "sell outs" and "oreo" comments is the dumb, i think i even posted once that since when was being against the word nigga/er made YOU the sell out.
-
and i am against the title of the CD but like someone said up there when hip hop is dead dropped it made a lotta rappers 1) fade away ie dem franchise boys
2) made veteren rappers step they rhyme game up. that new UGK album is bananas and them brother got something to talk about
3) i hear young people talking about common in GEORGIA, as well as cassidy getting his music played out here.
-
i say that to say this give it a listen 1st. if cornell west, or dyson and baisen came out with a book that said nigger would we be up and arms, or would we give it a read then come to a conclusion?
-
i doubt if nas album is gonna have club bangers and stuff like that, he's prolly gonna do more educating then entertaining is what im saying. i used to use the word a lot and refered to me as a nigga and all that til i saw the movie the N-word and after seeing that i personally feel stupid calling myself or addressing someone that say "hey nigga".
-
but my question to you is this
whats more important for a black man to be aware of whats going on but choose to do whatever to survive for whatever reason or to not know whats really going on and believe it is what it is?

clarence thomas used the doors that was open for him and closed them shits locked it and put a chair up under the nob so no one can get in.......wow real powerful i wanna be him when i grow up, lol
Anybody can be whatever they want. Wear tight pants, go to school,"be president" whatever. But when you run from the place that made you, or you dont accept the people that you belong to, YOU ARE A SELLOUT. People, black and white, run to the burbs because they are scared of black people. Simple fact. "Safer neighborhoods, less crime, higher property values"......whatevaaaaaaa. They just scared of niggas. Everybody scared of niggas.

nah, i think they do that cause its hard to spit that poli-tricks to people thats hurting. how you gonna go to the hood and say you gona fix that shit, lol, its easier to say to someone in the burbs "we're gonna lower taxes"
"yea"
"we're gonna add a rec center"
"yea"
-
but when u go to the hood it sooooooo much shit to fix them fuckers couldnt even lie about it cause heads know what time it is

You cant be serious. Jesse and Sharpton arent real leaders, but the one thing the black community needs, from the burbs all the way to the 'jects, is a cohesive thought pattern for change. Wouldnt nuthin happen if it wasnt for movements for change.

Ever since I started wearing that kufi hat.
@ Brooklyn_B. Get at me, playa... let's do this on the humble and on the grown-man:
1) You're absolutely right that Nas' HHID controversy had a positive effect... IN MUSIC. But this aint music; it aint about the quality of lyrics and all dat. This is a social issue and one of utmost meaning. In essence, Nas is trying to say "Nigger is Dead." He aint built for that.
2) In my previous posts, I spoke on both sides of the issue of using the term "Nigga" so I'm not blind to that double-standard. I was even ridin' wit Nas to a certain degree and eager to see what he'd have to say. BUT THAT WAS ON A MUSICAL, ENTERTAINMENT STANDPOINT.
3) The reason why I'm hot at Nas (and the punkb*tch who wrote this article) has to do with how he's answering the critics and taking it to the next leverl. HE'S THE ONE tawkin bout "taking the sting out of the word." HE'S THE ONE throwin in Barack Obama's name into the argument. AND RECKLESS IS THE PUNKB*TCH who is drawing the lines between a "real" Black American and a "oreo and sell-out."
Since it's going beyond the music, then we must judge it on it's social significance and effect.
