Nas went on to explain the meaning behind the title of the album:

For the record, naming your album "N*gger" is NOT going to help to extract insult from the meaning of it. "N*gger" has a historical backbone that will never go away; international marketing/distribution of the word and slapping a bar code on it only gives these stupid white kids another reason to think it's okay to call each other "n*gga" amongst themselves. I've never witnessed it right in front of me, but I've seen it on Myspace. It's not okay. And Nas, possessing the power that he does, is not helping the situation. He's only reinforcing it.

A federal jury late Tuesday held two Chicago police officers liable for the unreasonable search of a man who alleged that the officers sodomized him with a screwdriver during a search for drugs.

Coprez Coffie, 23, had testified that the tactical officers used the tool on him in a West Side alley in 2004. His family hugged after the verdict was announced.

"Justice was served, it was," Coffie said after court. "Now you see what's going on. It's put to the light."
The jury was not asked to decide damages because the two sides had previously reached a settlement of $4 million if the verdict favored Coffie.

The jury, which deliberated for three days, did not stop to speak to reporters.

Coffie's attorney, Jon Loevy, said he believed it was the totality of the evidence in the case that led to the favorable verdict. Loevy had presented evidence that an internal police investigation uncovered screwdrivers in the car used by the officers, that Coffie had an injury to his rectum and that a forensic test suggested there was human fecal matter in the car's glove compartment.

Loevy called the case a black eye for the Police Department, which did not discipline the officers, Gerald Lodwich and Scott Korhonen. The nine jurors found that Korhonen conducted an unreasonable search and that Lodwich failed to stop it, he said.

The department recently has been embroiled in a scandal involving its now-disbanded Special Operations Section.

A day after his friend was gunned down as the two walked on a South Side street, a 10-year-old boy sat Thursday alone at the top of his pal's front steps.
"I feel real sad,'' the fourth-grader said. "I miss him. We would be playing baseball or something or walking around."
The boy's friend, Arthur Jones, also 10, was killed Wednesday afternoon by stray bullets during what police say was a gang-related fight. The boys -- and others -- were out walking together to go to a local store when they came upon a fighting crowd at Halsted and Garfield.
Shots rang out, and the boys ran, the friend said. Arthur was hit several times, including in the neck.
One person -- who allegedly was possibly involved but not the gunman -- was in police custody Thursday.
Chicago Public Schools offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to charges against the shooter. Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church offered $10,000.
"It is crazy. It was senseless,'' said Rita Perez, Arthur's mother. "They just didn't hurt one person. They hurt the whole community.''
Arthur was a fifth-grader at nearby Holmes School and wanted to be a pastor one day.
"He talked a lot, but he seemed mature, like an old soul," said his homeroom teacher, Kiesha Shaw-Nobles.
The boy's friend said he didn't see who shot Arthur, but he had a message for the two gangs said to be warring over turf.
"I would tell them they were wrong for shooting him," the boy said. "[Arthur] didn't have anything to do with it."

It's sad that children fall victim 2 senseless violence like this everyday in the streets, not only in Chicago, but in every major city across the country, & 4 what? over territory that's not even owned by us, yet some of us brothers R quick 2 shoot each other over it & not give a fuck if an innocent child gets shot, U might as well spit in the face of that child's mother by taking her child's life, & what really gets me is when people think that marching through the hood singing "we shall overcome"

I can understand where Nas is coming from...see the word "Nigger" was created by white people to describe us, and we as strong black people took the word and said you know what, your meaning does not fit us and created a way for it to be about love. The white man sees this and now has decided to change the argument to, well how can you call us racist, when you use the word too...this kind of bait and switch is part of a pyschological game they play where under no circumstance can we be right. Instead of agreeing with Fox news and those of there ilk who created the word and created this argument, we need to take ownership in our own thoughts and let them know they don't get an excuse for being racists just because we have taken away the power of a word they created to destroy us both in the physical and mental sense.
This N word has gone too far. I'm not trying to label the generation of today but there are far tooo many youngins and young adults walking around just saying the word like its all good . I see people on the train saying it in front of anybody, thats why other races think its ok to say the word. First we as a people have to stop using it word freely, we have to think back to when some of our parents and grandparents were coming up and they were being called this word in a negative way. This word was never used back then as a term of endearment, and really shouldn't be used as one now, but we call our boys nuccas and my nigger. I know deep down that when I say it to my boys it's love, but I will not say that word in front of no other race to give them the thought of hey if they can use to meet and great each other, then that must mean thats what they want to be called.
