Joell Ortiz Caught with the Wrong Crowd, RZA Breaks down Concept of New Joint, Nas Drops New Ish, Mos Def Puts Rappers on Blast: "Enough is a f*ckin 'nough."

Ringtone rapper consumers and 50 Cent idolizers, this won't even absorb, so don't attempt. For those who appreciate lyrics, this is why The Bronx is where it started at. Peep my peoples from The Source days, Chris-Tougha aka Tegano from the Wrong Crowd, cough up that raw spittage alongside the kid Joell Ortiz and former Terror Squadian Tony Sunshine. And btw, shout out to D.E.F.A.M.E and Mikey Fresh.

Wu-Tang's RZA sat down and spoke about the Beatles-sampled "The Heart Gently Weeps," which has been spanning a lot of heavy "this track is hot, nah.. this track is garbage" debate [ listen here if you haven't already]. I listen to lyrics, so it's good money. But something about it fails to pull me in. Can't put my finger on it. Personally I think they could've chosen a better sample.

Nas took a song from the 1970s classic musical The Wiz and sampled it for this joint, which is called "Surviving the Times." Has a good, smooth vibe to it. Check it out:

Nas- "Surviving the Times"

Mos Def had a thing or two to say to the folks who didn't show up to support the Jena 6:

"Everybody should be here. I'm f*ckin mad I'm disappointed I'm tired of coming to these things, and it's one and two people. Mothaf*ckas all these private planes and sh*t you supposed to be landing here on top of the f*ckin courthouse or the helicopter... I'm here to make sure my people get free in my lifetime and my children's lifetime. 'Cause enough is a f*ckin 'nough... I don't give a f*ck about none of these brass rings that got they hand out, for best rapper, best jumpoff, best style, I don't give a sh*t about that sh*t. Get free. And if you aint gonna use your voice then stay quiet."

"I reached out to everybody. At once. And this is the reponse that I got. And I'm disappointed and ashamed."

Mos Def should know that none of these so-called rappers stand for anything. What many of these rappers portray in their rhymes-- even the most lyrical, poetic, conscious rappers-- are just a bunch of "stunters" who do not practice what they preach. As for the ringtone and Southern say-nothing-on-the-track rappers, they're not even relevant, so they get a pass. But where were the rappers that have the most power to influence others on taking a stand? And as for Common, Black Thought, Talib Kweli... shame.

Not speaking for everyone, but those born in the early-mid 60s were pretty much the last to have to witness the extreme racism and empowerment/dictatorship of the American white supremacy (the aftermath stretched far into the 70s, particularly in the South). The group that followed have been sheltered in a lot of ways, so now, when it's time to stand up for something, most simply turn the news channel and shrug it off. For those born in the 80s-early 90s, if it's not a PS2 or an iPod, it's not worth the fuss. They're all a bunch of spoiled brats; fighting for a good cause is brand new, or to some, unheard of. Especially when you're in the Northern part of America, where racism is much more subtle-- in most areas.

But nevertheless, Mos, your point was well taken. It's too bad that America has no real leaders and therefore, no supporters. Nobody cares.

That's real talk coming from a reckless, biased, bitch-made nigga like yourself.

Like Sonny said, "Nobody cares."

Oh yeah.......... and FIRST NIGGAS!

yall niggaz is delusional, the fuck is a rapper gonna do ??? 99.9 % of rappers dont even have a high school diploma........pay them dudes lawyer fee's and wish them the best of luck........they are rappers they aint political leaders......you dont hear 50 cent callin him self big Malcolm X, or Jigga calling himself Young MLK so what do you expect ????

Lukee Lefty, your dumb ass made his point. These rappers should be leaders. Political leaders? No, stupid, just leaders. They claim that they ain't scared of nothing. Prove it B.itch @ss niggas. Say something. You ain't gotta spend no money, just SAY something.

You ALMOST right. Why your P.ussy ass gotta take a shot at southern rappers. All of them New York niggas ain't tight. F.uck U! Anyway, back to the subject. I don't get these rappers. That act like they the hardest people on 2 legs, but when it's time to show some balls, they tuck they tails and run.

Please stop talking about Joell Ortiz. Saigon, Maino, Papoose, Tru Life, Uncle Murda and any of those other "new new york" niggaz. Sorry but none of them are going to be famous and none of them are making moves. Their buzz ran out and they suck. I never heard anything HOT from Joell Ortiz. Not once. I guarantee you if a no named rapper spit his exact bars to you, you'd swear it was wack.
-
You're all biase because he got his fame through that website hiphopgame. Whoever runs these hip hop websites (I know about 5 people own most of the big sites) must know this kid personally. Kid? He's like 30 so nevermind. He had the most biase media coverage of any rapper I've ever seen. He's a nobody. That Brooklyn shit is corny. He's not saying anything hot he's just saying I'll stab you, steal your chain because I'm from Brooklyn. Fat Joe could spit that shit and change it to Bronx. Nothing hot about it.
-
Rappers are not leaders and they should not be leaders. You're the ignorant one for thinking any black person with more than $10 and access to 5 mins of tv at a time should be a leader. It shows where your priority is. The kids don't listen to rappers anyway. Rappers say don't sell drugs, don't join gangs, learn from me. The kids still do it. Has nothing to do with rappers. You don't see white people telling Billy Joel to run for president. Stop being stupid. Black politicians, white politicians, they're all in it for themselves. What kind of people run for congress, president, mayor? People who had a thirst for power since they were little kids. You think they care no matter their race? Yeah ok. Wake up pal.

Mos Def is speaking from the heart and he's speaking truth! Rappers need to put up or shut up!!

http://cyberthugs.wordpress.com

White people do have one point. They say blacks try to divide the country. We try to turn it into us versus them. They do have a point. Whites don't get along with whites. We went to Kosovo because the Serbians were committing GENOCIDE against the Albanians. All throughout history whites have slaughtered and enslaved other whites. Romans, British, French, Russians, on and on we can go. When the Irish came to America they got treated like shit and had to form the first street gangs to survive.
*
So why whenever something happens with a black person do we attack rappers, atheletes or who ever and say "stand up for your people"? Be serious. This is America. Everybody is in it for themselves. Even your local KKK leader is using the racist views of the whites in his area to gain power. He probably doesn't believe any of the shit he preaches. It's not your job to get money to feed the world. You don't see Bill Gates distributing money to Italians or whatever he is.

AHEM wrote: "Rappers are not leaders and they should not be leaders. You're the ignorant one for thinking any black person with more than $10 and access to 5 mins of tv at a time should be a leader."

That's painfully true, but for whatever reason we the consumers are confused about that. We connect the lyrics to the people when in actually (and most cases) we're not supposed to do so.

No, kids DO listen to rappers, and Mos Def sure does too; that's why he took them for the image that they portray and expected them to show.

There used to be a sub-genre in Hip Hop that was all about political activism, but that don't exist anymore. And as in the case of Kanye West, artists SHOULDN'T try to be an activist if their not going to do it full-time (like Public Enemy).

This is all about the issue of REALNESS in Hip Hop.

Go to NY. You'll see kids that like or lookup or whatever to Lil Wayne or Jim Jones but those same kids will be Crip. Guess they didn't have that much influence. I never did anything in my life because of a rapper and if you get any kid to say so, it's because dateline paid them $10,000 for an interview.

WHAT SHOULD A CONCERNED RAPPER LIKE MOS DEF DO INSTEAD...

I appreciate his heart and really believe he is sincere about it. There are plenty of "real" artists like Mos who are not political spitters but can do something in a case like this:

1) Put up some cash and donate something towards the lawyers fees. (Where's Diddy, Jay, and Fif?)

2) Regularly contribute to social organizations that work on these types of situations full-time.

But don't expect the average bling-flashin, Patron-guzzlin, bullsh*itter to come out to a march like this. TRUTH TOLD

50 has a real charity. He gives away all of the donation he receives and he donates his own money. He doesn't bullshit by hiring employees as tax deductions for it. He just gave away another 6 figures a few weeks ago to other charities (most likely one of them are involved in Jena).

IN FACT, WHAT RAPPER HAS ANY BUSINESS ATTENDING ONE OF THESE MARCHES!?!

For a typical rapper to "practice what they preach" would LITERALLY mean supporting gang violence, greed, baggin hoes, materialism (at least frontin like they rich), murdering cops, etc...

Isn't that what they "preach" and isn't that what WE love them for doing???

Even the Hip Hip "gods" that everyone worships like Big and Pac. WHAT ABOUT THEIR LYRICS AND THE IMAGE THEY PORTRAY would make them eligible to march at a social/political rally. GET REAL, NUGGAZ.

Only shit I have to say is says...

So why whenever something happens with a black person do we attack rappers, atheletes or who ever and say "stand up for your people"? Be serious. This is America. Everybody is in it for themselves. You do have a point but your wrong about Bill Gates. Do you know who the richest man in the world was last year? It was Bill Gates/ Do you know who the richest man in the world is this year? It's some mexican guy who's in the cell phone business. Do you know how Bill Gates lost his number one spot? It's becasue he gave away almost half of his money to charity and building schools. In Philadelphia he has a high-tech school for the public school kids. So white people do give to charity and not just for tax purposes!!!

We need more Public Enemy's in hip hop!

http://cyberthugs.wordpress.com

The guy isn't Mexican. He's from the Middle East and his family relocated to Mexico and took over the country. Bill Gates gives away money in general but not to specific races. Philly? Hmm doesn't sound too white to me.

I had hope for Joell Ortiz and he is nice

Thats it nice.

But he is not BIG PUN
listening to the song "CAPITAL PUNISHMENT" alone is deeper and iller than Joell Ortiz whole cd PUN had something to say on top of screaming he's the best where most these fucks say they the best cause they can name different types of guns and say QUAP alot. I mean i'm from the "RED HEADED STEP STATE" the little brother with no respect "NEW JERSEY THE ASSHOLE OF HIP HOP" east coast allday but theres nobody speaking on shit if your gonna spit how nice you are add a little food for thought just to balance out.

As for the south leave them alone cause the kids love it we just happen to get lucky where when we was young cats was spitten a little more food for thought than dance but we still dance the balance just shifted more to dance with the south so let them make there money.

If would say one thing to south rappers is more knowledge but keep your style its your aint supposed to sound like up north do you and get that money when the EAST COAST stop being bitter little bitches and do it cause they feeling themselves WESTCOAST as well then the cipher will be complete NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST everybody good .

AND RAPPERS ARNT LEADERS THEY ARE LIKE WEST SIDE STORY ACTORS SINGING AND DANCING ITS A BIG HIGH SCHOOL PLAY. And as you know most high scool plays suck.

Big Coke

Now that sound like nas.Not the will i beat. That hot.

Yeah I feel my man Mos on what he was saying, he's telling the truth. And you southern niggas need to stop being so sensitive, he was talking about everybody, if he was only talking about southern rappers then tell me why did David Banner and Killer Mike show up, so ya'll need to shut that shit up, he's talking about everybody who didn't show up!

GOOD MORNING. HAS ANYONE SEEN "CHI-HOP" OR "KUSH CITY"???

All this "intelligence" on the blog this morning is not normal. We need those 2 to add some variety.

Actually, that's how I see SOUTHERN RAP in the middle of the Hip Hop scene. People support it because they want "variety" but it really is bringing the whole game down.

P.S. Southerners! That was your cue to hop on this blog and get all upset at me n sh*t. I can't wait to see ignorance on full display. (this is gonna be good)

THE-XFACTA says...

Yes, but that's not gonna happen in an era like this. Right now, it's all about numbers and ringtone sales, and P.E. wouldn't get that kind of support.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE'S "CHI-HOP" AT???
The fool was tryin to sound intelligent and slick. Instead of callin me "Diamond" he said "Cubic Zorona" when it's supposed to be "Cubic ZIRCONIA." I think he had a little too much "Cubic Corona" HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!

Don't worry Bobby Drake will be on in a few stanning everybodies names. He's in Texas so he's a few hours behind. Fucking faggot.

Ringtone rapper consumers and 50 Cent idolizers, this won't even absorb, so don't attempt. For those who appreciate lyrics, this is why The Bronx is where it started at......THANK GOD it spread to Queens and launched from there cause it would have died in the Bronx.....so before getting all hyped about nothing SUPPORT New York shit when it comes out...until then EVERYONE knows where it started...stop crying already....

YOU ARE A WEAK MUTHAFUKA FOR THAT SOUTHERN RAPPER BULLSHYT!!

WEAK MINDED NIGGAS LIKE YOU IS THE REASON MOS GOT NO SUPPORT....YOU MUTHAFUKAS A COMPLETELY IRRATIONAL....

YOU AIN'T NO BETTER THAN THEM 80'S BABIES YOU MENTIONED....YOU SUPPOSED TO BE COMMENTED ON A SERIOUS MATTER AND YOU TAKE THE CHANCE TO GET YOUR LIL SOUTHERN HATE ON.....

THAT'S WHY YOU BIIIITCHES WON'T EVER GET THE GAME BACK....EVERYONE SEE'S YOUR TRUE HATIN ASS COLORS NOW....THE REST OF THE NATION WILL CONTINUE TO NOT SUPPORT YOU HATIN BITCH MADE NIGGAS....

GO CATCH THE TRAIN OR RAP IN A ALLEY OR SOMETHING YOU BROKE ASS BOOTS IN THE SUMMER TIME WEARING TRICKS....

QUIT HATIN THE SOUTH!!!

when Jackson State University and Tougaloo College students where down there marching for the Jena six, where were your lame uneducated asses????????????????????

Were YOU in Jena Reckless?

didnt think so bitch, so shut your cock-sucker.

The reason hip hop sales have fallen off is because the 'white public' arent buying the records anymore. That coupled with the bad music coming from the south is a bad combo.. There are no new mc's that are significant from NY, Chi, Philly, or Ca so rap will stay in a rut into someone or something new and/or different happens in hip hop!!!!!

@Big COKE

Pun is dead.

Say bruh, dat all u New York Niggaz di all day iz hate on da souf, real tawk shawty. So what we got 20 millions songs dat only tawk about old skool slabs. Dats all we do. Shawty, if Big Mamma can cook a pig a million different ways, why can't we rap about the same damn thang a million different ways, real tawk. Say bruh, have you ever been to da souf, do you know what is like living in a boring ass town with a population of only 20 people and da Piggly Wiggly is 40 miles away? So don't blame us fo bring down hip-hop cause we ain't got nuttin to tawk about, shawty real tawk. If we tawked about the shit we really liked to do, like cow tippin, raising barns, feedin da pigs yall would lauf at us, real tawk. So to make ourselves seem like we hot, we swagger jacked Jay-Z for his style and flow. Since none of us can rhyme like shawty we just put words together to make dem sound hot. Around 2003 when we ran out ways to swagger jack Jigga, we started making up dances. Most of dem dances were made up by watching faggots switch they gay asses down the skreet. Where do you thank lean wit it roc wit it, the snappin and poppin came from, shawty real tawk. Like I said we really can't rap for shit so we just put all of our energy into making a hot ass beat and hook. But we usually use up all dat energy fo one or two songs and do rest of dat shit dat be on our CD's is just some bullshit we made when we was getting high. So stop hating on us already, shawty real tawk.

For all of you, bringing that East vs South garbage (I call it garbage because you all sound stupid fighting about land you don't own), you know this is an NYC blog to begin with. Why even come here just to start that regional BS? You know it says SOHH NYC to begin with. Why even come in here? You know what it's going to be about from jump.

Secondly, stop hating (yes I said hating because you're doing the same) on New York MCs and or the up coming ones. They aren't making these jabs at you Southern cheerleaders. Stop throwing Jabs at NY and it's rappers, because of this blog. The rappers are not the ones saying anything, this blogger is.

Y'all have a blog where they support Southern rappers. Go there and you'll be happy with the coverage. Why come here to start up trouble? It's silly. I'm tired of hearing about Saigon, Joell ortiz, ect...well, duh stupid. It's a New York blog, wtf are you expecting? How about I'm tired of seeing the same idiots complaining about who hates on the South. Don't nobody hate you. You're only bringing that unwanted attention to yourself.

And tap into my weed budget? You're outta your damn mind!

Nah all jokes aside, I don't think the 'black public' ever bought a lot of cd's even when hip hop was 'big' The 'white public' is almost 3x's the blacks so that's why the mc's need their dollars. It's just like when Motown came out in the 60's they were looking to take r&b to the mainstream, which they did, and that's why they were so successful. If they never crossed over they would NEVER have been as big as they were... Know your history!!!!

Well the problem is there aren't enough blacks in America to purchase a million of one item. There are only 30 million blacks in America and older people are the majority in the United States. So it's safe to assume that 15-18 million are 50+. Blacks don't have a large birth rate which is why latinos are becoming the 2nd biggest ethnic group. Now out of the 12 million left, how many are kids who can't buy cd's, how many are broke, how many like rap, how many are 14-30? See the problem.

What are people not getting? The only thing most rappers have going for them is luck, fame and money. They are not a brainy group and they are bending over and spreading their butt cheeks for label execs. They are not ALLOWED to say anything uplifting and an increasingly ignorant audience doesn't want to hear it anyway.

Black folk do buy records... at a "sale price" from your friendly neighborhood bootlegger on Flatbush Ave here in Brooklyn. But that sh*t don't show up on Soundscan.

Let's educate ourselves and learn to differentiate commercial success verses artistic accomplishment. Sure, people like Big, Nas, Jay and Pac were successful on both fronts. Pac holds the Guiness record for most albums sold by a Hip Hop artist in history.

ONCE AGAIN, the showdown between 50 & Kanye showed that the taste of the White buying public is changing in regards to STREET Hip Hop. A famine is coming and good street artists like Jada gonna starve.

A starving artist is a great thing!! We need to have more hungry mc's that care about their craft and realize you can't shoot people on every song and making songs about dancing and spelling B-O-O-S-I-E-B-A-D-A-Z-Z is fucking dumb and no one wants to hear that!!! Bring back the days when Rakim, Big Daddy, KRS 1 were out and doing it for the love and the art.. Not saying there aren't any out now but we need more!! Puck Record Sales!

CO-SIGN on AHEM's and X-FACTA's mathmatical breakdown.

WHAT IS GOING ON with all of these intelligent posts on this blog this morning!?! It's not like sohh.com.

Finishin my thought, outside of those street Hip Hip artists who also sold big commercially, MOST artists (which we consider legends) didn't sell like that before. Rakim, Big Daddy, etc. They maxed out around 300k

So I think it's safe to say that 300 - 500k is the most we can expect from the Black buying public --- of an album that is a fuggin MASTERPIECE.

Wow Reckless...I see you got ya daily shot of "throw a jab at the south" in for the day...its nothing more than a means to get more hits on ya blog...so errrr, save that shit...

As for Mos Def calling out rappers for not "standing up for something" GTFOH!! I'm sooooooo tired of people tryna make these entertainers (mainly rappers) into political giants, humanitarians even. Why not call all the black actors?? Where was Denzel? Will Smith? Why not call them out?? Cause its easier to call out a rapper!

As far as your ignorant comment about racism, and I quote "Especially when you're in the Northern part of America, where racism is much more subtle-- in most areas." thats the dumbest statement I've ever heard...take your ass to Boston or Providence or any other white bread city up north and racism (in regards to blacks) is just as brash as in any other part of the country...

NIELSEN SHOULD ALSO RECORD BOOTLEG SALES. That's wattsup!!! That's the ONLY way to measure commercial success in Hip Hop; Soundscan numbers aren't accurate.

BUT WAIT. That would mean my Haitian and Nigerian nuggaz would have to get their greencards. Nah, forget I said anything.

i have to agree, i hate when someone act like "oh, why such and such aint doing something" even though im pro black and believe that black people should ALWAYS look out for black people all over the world cause where one people, HOWEVER, its a choice and if mos and bun b go out there to support thats cool but dont call out RAPPERS who didnt show up, but dont point fingers at others, im sure there was some blacks that LIVE in jena that DIDNT wear black to show support nor participated in the protest.

ALL IM GONNA SAY IS THAT THIS WORLD IN GENERAL IS FUCKED UP AND THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS USED TO DISTRACT US FROM WHATS IMPORTANT:AMERICANS ARE SIMPLY MEMBERS OF A POLICE STATE IN WHICH WE HAVE NO POWER-i.e. THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE-SO OJ GETS MORE SHINE THAN THE JENA 6 ON THE NEWS. FUCK IT FIND A WAY TO BLAME WHITEY

A STARVIN ARTIST IS NOT AS GOOD AS YOU MIGHT THINK.

If it's a starvin UNDERGROUND artist working their way up, grindin, that's good.

But if it's someone (like Jada) who has tasted the "good life" and what it means to have once BEEN a fat cat, it's NOT good.

In this case, starvin means DESPERATE. It means, I gotta make a quick buck to pay my mortgage and support the lavish lifestyle I jumped into. These types of "starvin" artists end up poodle records with Mariah, Chris Brown, Hurricane Chris, etc.

This is what you call a WHORE. Might as well be called pimpin and prostitution.

Sup Brooklyn B?

Why isn't he upset with the elected officials? Why isn't he holding the government to a higher standard?

Why are people looking for Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy or whoever the fuck for leadership and direction?? I mean seriously...this shit is gettin outta hand...

And another this is people always talk about Oprah and how she picks and chooses what causes she funds or stands behind and its fine, she gets a pass...but they expect a nigga that just left the block two years ago and has never seen this much bread in his life and still has a $250 a day weed habit to raise awareness about shit in our community...gimme a fuckin break...

I agree wit Mos. There is a time and a place for everything and this was the time and place for other artists to make their voice heard. I mean it's not like they have 9-5's where they have a set work schedule. They could've easliy said "yo I'm going to Jena to show some support". I was asking my homegirl while we was at Talib concert in NY why wasn't he at Jena instead of doing this show he could've cancelled just like Lupe did. And it's not only rappers I believe he was addressing he basically said anyone with the power to make a change. I don't know man in my opinion dudes could've been there taking a stand for the INJUSTICE of the situation...it's not like camera's weren't there for them to be seen publicly and therefore be able to "stunt". It's not about being pro-black or any racial type agenda it's about right is right and wrong is wrong. I wore black that whole weekend and continue to try to do it at least once a week, my college held some rallies that I took part in...now that was me making my voice heard. People who were in a BETTER position than most did NOTHING and that's where Mos anger stems from. When you attain a certain status money and fame wise, whatever you do will be greatly publicized and scrutinized, I guess most dudes felt like going to Jena would not benefit their status. At least a "Vote or Die" like campaign could've been put on lol. Truthfully I believe no one cares anymore in these kind of situations, UNTIL it directly effects them.

Props to Brotha Mos. You are doing a commendable thing.

BUT. Nobody here seems to get the point. The point is that a BLACK kid had to ASK for permission to sit under the "WHITE" tree. This is not the 60's. We are in the "new" millenium.

It's obvious that some places in this country are still fucked up. And if we're looking to RAPPERS for anwsers, we are in big trouble. Rappers are like Hollywood actors. THEY ACT. They portray something on film and wax that's 180 degrees from who they really are.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have straight sympothy for ALL of the citizens of Jena, LA. But, those BLACK folks there had to know about the deep-seeded racism going on in their town. I refuse to believe that the events that put Jena, LA on the map was the first type of bullshit to happen there. If the government does not constituionally fulfill it's duties, the citizens have the right to take over that government and elect folks who will be fair to ALL citizens.

But to look to RAPPERS for political empowerment is straight up ridiculous. STOP BEING FOOLISH!!!

This is what you call a WHORE. Might as well be called pimpin and prostitution.
