You read the title right. The news has been spreading like wild fire. After a not-so-stellar Kingdom Come, Hov is rebounding with the first joint off his next album, American Gangster, which is currently slated to hit shelves November 6th. The song that was expected to hit airwaves today is entitled "Blue Magic," said to be produced by Pharrell. I haven't heard the track just yet, but I swear this new single better not sound anything like that god-awful "Change Clothes."
So since yesterday proved that good, quality music still sells, can we get some 1998 swagger in this new Hov album? I was listening to those 1990s DMX albums, alongside with the Ruff Ryders Vol I, some of Jigga's old joints, then I ran across "Can I Get A," and it made me think about how tight knit New York City rappers once were. Now, Ja Rule and DMX are too washed up to ever be relevant again, and DMX can't stand to have Hov oversee any of his work. But ten years ago? Things were so different. And a Jay-Z album was worth the ten dollars. But Kingdome Come? ....*crickets*
In any event, it's clear that Def Jam is gearing up for another 4th quarter rampage. We'll see how long that November 6th date sticks.

Wow.

Kay Slay speaks on Papoose being released from Jive Records (via Eskay) [LISTEN]:
"We have officially gotten our release from Jive f*ckin records. It was like a f*ckin year of hell... Unfortunately, we almost became victims of A&R hell.
"You cannot put a 60-something-year-old white man on a 20-something-year-old black kid's project from Brooklyn, and think it's gonna pop. And like I said this aint a bashing. It's a reality. But by the grace of everybody's... understanding, we are free. Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, free at last. We are very happy, we're popping champagne. We got our release from Jive Records, and we're just moving on."
When you go on and on and on expressing how happy you are about something, it usually means you're disgusing the opposite. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being disappointed. Stop frontin.
Man oh man. But you know what? I shouldn't even be surprised, because those first two singles said it all. But it's all good. It's better to be released early on than to be helplessly held hostage and forced to make no money and end up working at The GAP. Like, say, a Bad Boy artist.
>>>>Oh yeah, and one more thing to make you mad: Speaking of quality music selling a million copies in one week, how do you corns feel about your favorite Southern invent-a-dance ringtone rappers bagging Billboard hits and smashing ringtone sales but constantly failing to move physical CD cases out of stores? Stop using downloading as a scapegoat. The end is near.

I knew that Papoose wasn't dropping shit, he just a mixtape rapper.. that single wif Snoop was trash in trash out. anyhow, i'm that 1 in a million person that has never really paid attention to Jay-Z, i hear people over here in S.A. hype him up, i mean one of my friends, before the downloading era, i think it was that time Jay released that Hard Knock life joint, i was bumping DMX, anyhoo this nigga went as far as to buy me that album, but i just wasn't impressed, even the blue print wasn't hot to me but for a few tracks, i preffered Still Matic.. that album wif change clothes i thought was to me his best album and it still wasn't that great, but since i keep on reading on these blogs how great he is, i'm gonna DOWNLOAD his catelog and see what's good wif this nigga, if he deserves to be compared to the greats (BIGGIE, PAC, PUN & Nasir)... i'll get back to u mufackas
Jigga >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pun, with that said though; Pun was pretty dope. Now back to the subject.
That Dr. Dre produced track by Pap shoulda been his first single, that shit was hot. But they paid him 1.5 mil, I mean honesly Pap isn't worth that much, he doesn't have the buzz 50 had when he signed to Shady/Aftermath (not to say 50's better, he just had a bigger buzz) As for Jay, all his albums are dope. Reasonable Doubt & The Blueprint are both classics, and Kingdom Come was more for the grown man crowd, it showed his growth as an artist. He went from selling drugs to running Def Jam, plus Jigga is the only dude that could collab with Big and sound as good as Big (Brooklyn's Finest). So I'm looking forward to the new single.
Glad to see REAL music selling again. Thanks Kanye, coz this wasnt ALL about the so-called feud with 50! I feel that in the end he sold more coz he really cared about the music. Peep Jay-Z's Entertainment Weekly interview. Apparently Good Life had 16 mixes! In Hov's words "Who does that!?" Maybe Hov will up the ante a bit (lyrically & creatively) with this next album. I gotta say though, Kingdom Come did end up growin on me. I think ringtone rappers toppin billboard singles charts and ringtone sales, then going wood is a mere reflection of the longevity good/real music has. I'm not too surprised about Papoose's situation. I was one of the few who weren't too excited about that $1.5mil deal with Jive coz I felt that label was just tryin to capitalise off his buzz at the time. Also, Papoose's material just cant breakthrough commercially. I think they are frontin, deep down they hurtin.
hahaha! why are yall so concerned about the sales....the record is tight, talk about the quality that is evident in the kweli record, the common record and kanye's record...those right there are emcees....i am sad for papoose who needs a name change by the way.....and ma, i kind of liked change clothes...pamoja!!!
Oh please, save our label's hip hop division again, Hov??? How can these cats hustle they own joints with the serious muscle, but can't get quality artists to put out a top contender to Weezy and TIP for album of the year??? Kayslay just frontin...... him and Pap owe Jive Records 1.5 mill (the advance in that contract signed like 2 yrs ago). That shit is eating him alive that he couldn't make Pap something he aint. All that b.s. about a 60 yr. old A&R....... Nigga, please!!!! You Pap's manager (so-called), they gave you 1.5 million BEFORE he ever dropped anything commercially, and besides, all a A&R do is "clean up" ya image and get you aimed at a particular fan base. If you his manager, YOU tell the A&R where Pap is coming from, not the other way around. That shit fell through becuz Pap was buzzing at the time, but him and Kayslay started running with these weak ass singles, thinking that the "Ringtone experiment" would also work for Pap, acting like true hip-hop fans is stupid. They had no biz even being on Jive in the 1st fuckin place....... same label as Kells, Britney Spears, Timberlake...... what rap artists is on Jive???? All they whole hip-hop staff is liquidated or bounced (i.e. UGK, Mystikal, Nick Cannon), so what the hell made them think they had a snowball's chance in hell over there??? In response to that last comment, (not sticking up for the South's corny dance rappers/ ringtone cats) that's what them niggaz is here to do. They aint never gon win lyricist of the year and they know the shit....... when have you ever heard Soulja Boy hop up and say "I'm the hottest in the game/ My album is fire...."??? D4L? DFB? T-Pain? They hustle is strictly making the ringtone songs thats gon have ya girl trying to assign a ringtone to every person saved in they celly (Trust me, I know). Stop knockin they hustle and worry bout why cats up top AINT interested in buying quality hip-hop like Talib, Common, Chamillionaire that has messages, everyday themes, etc. Most of them cats like Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, and such have contracts where 99% of what they sell goes to the straight to the label for they profit, and the artists themselves eat like mostly from selling the ringtones, video/radio spins and performances, so it IS a method to the madness. NO, I DONT FOLLOW THAT BULLSHIT, but I do understand the nature of the game. ONE
Pap is a good ocassional 16 bars. Not good songs or music. But I feel them on the a&r situation. These companies have college boys, girls, and senior citizens filtering out an art that was formed from the streets. The corporations are failing us, not the artists. Even if I think pap is garbage, he has fans, but these a&rs are fans of their own type of music, and want artists to conform. Some artist do, some artist don't. Christina millian and rihanna were supposed 2 b marketed the same. One said hell no, and one said okay. Guess who's who. But fuck a&rs, especially the ones at columbia. I won't call names, but yall staff is weak
They marketed Pap all wrong. Pap is naturally a hardcore artist...they should have marketed him like DMX or 50....not Faboulous or Chingy.
Kay Slay is a failure. Pap need 2 drop him real quick.
I hope Jay come with some good, good ish. Take it back to that reasonable doubt/hard knock life time.
Jay also need to do a duet album with Beyonce...should be fire.
whom ever wrote this is a straight hater and you shouldnt ever be in charge of a blog you hate the east coast and the south you should go write for a f@ggot azz blog because thats what you are
That whole Streetsweeper Gang is old as hell. Slay is like 50. Pap is like 35 and Big Lou got a 16 year old kid. That mean the nigga is pushing 40. Who the fuck gon sign a 40 year old rapper. This game all fucked up.
About time Jay! Hope this project isn't rushed like Kingdom Come even tho I liked it. Damn Papoose! How you gonna pay back the mil you got from your advance? Papoose is good but he Kay Slay should expand him outside the NY area. Your average person in Wisconsin probably doesn't even know who he is.
Here we go again, first it was 50 cent dick riderz talking nonsense that 50 gonna smash KW for the #1 spot, and look what happened. Now we have Jay-Z dick riderz saying all this garbage about his shit and soon to be shitty album. Jay-z is a wanna be biggie. He will never be bigg, he will never take biggs crown, if bigg would be alive, jay-z would be madd hatin on him with full of jeolusy. So you Jay-z dick riderz get off his nuttz 4 a sec and learn from the 50 cent dick riderz. Karma will bite you in the ass. Jay-z gonna flopp. And when that happens I will address you Jay-z dick riderz.
Looks like Hov is going try and use the movie to market his project like he used 50's release date and over confidence to maket Kanyes CD. Hopefully it will not work. Hov is washed up. He will be 39 years old this year, and he reach to death, the hunger is gone.
As for Pap- I KNEW IT!!!! Jive isn't for rap music
Artists need to tell these labels to keep their advance and just provide the essentials to make great music. If you skip the advance, that money can go to your marketing budget. But Pap probably thought he had enough buzz to forgoe a heavy campaign and just use Myspace as his primary source of advertising. Bad move homie..................................
..And I have to agree with Jaysiatic .Kay Slay is not an Exec. How you can't persuade these suits to let you have creative control when you supposed to have New York on smash???
And now to comment on the ever move making.
Jay-Z.
I wonder how much 50 paid him to get on that remix anyway???
I never was into the super bragadocious Style Jay-Z used to have. But his last album was something to listen to. I just wish he would do more track with underground artists. But he realizes that Gangsta Rap is dead and he has become more hip-hop focused.
He need to put Termanology or Strobe on his new album. I always wanted to hear a Jam with Jay-Z and Dave from De La. aslo known as Plug 2.
Check out these beats produced by Skrooge Banga. Feel free to leave comments. http://www.esnips.com/web/Skroogestrumentals
Who ever wrote this blog is a hater. That change clothes track was hot i don't know wat ure talkin bout. The Kingdom Come was a hot album too, the shit was a lil more on the grown folks side. Pap got the deal off the buzz he was carrying at the time. I saw this coming when he started to lose his buzz. Thta "bang out" with snoop was trash and so was the "fitted hat low". Kay Slay need to stop faking, he know he's fucking hurting off of this situation. 1!!
FYI American Gangster isn't Jay's latest...it's the soundtrack for the upcoming movie!
Honestly Kay Slay shoulda holla'd @ Mobb Deep B4 fuckin' with Jive, now that U think about it, that label has the right name.
How long do y'all think it'll be B4 Atlantic drops Saigon?
2 much 4 the industry 2 handle why don't you go hurry up and get to school because your a child for talking immature shit like that and obiviously don't know spell check. If you don't like Jay-Z's mucsic that's your opinion not mine but just because people on here are commenting saying they can't wait for the album doenst mean their dick riders. Their fans not dumbass haters like you who has no relevancy on this topic.
Are u from trini or just a perp???
HATE HATE HATE, is that all that comes out of your crusty little mouth Reckless? Some guy got on Breezy the other day talkin about how females shouldn't blogg on hiphop. Ur just giving is beliefs credibility.
--
1st off, i have failed to see what was wrong with Kindom Come. Was it because all his songs weren't filled with clever drug saleing references or metaphores for fucking groupies? That album was for the grown, and showed the same growth all these other niggas need to pay attention to. Jay can't rap about the projects cause he aint there no more.
--
But i'm still lookin forward to some new shit. Jay never dissapoints IMO. (Maybe with that billionare remix he did, but wateva)
--
Who gives a fuck about the New NY savior, the spoken word artist Papoose. U should have known that nigga is NEVER EVER EVER EVER gonna blow up outside of NY. He better make up a dance or get T-Pain to sing a hook or something. He got dropped. End of discussion
--
Oh and Reckless, fuck u for that lame shot at the south. Who's dick are u really on? 50's? i thought u hate him. His whole album is for the ladies or about shootin someone. And it can't be Kanye's cause he from the Chi.
--
Again Reckless, how long has it been since a NY rapper even debuted in the top 10 again.........waiting.......waiting.....took too long, i'll answer it for u. It was Swizz Beatz at #7 with 45,000 sold. "Quality" music moving unit's right?
--
NY couldn't break a new artist if every rapper from there was mad in Taiwan. U get money for ringtones even if u only sale a couple hundred thousand units. If niggas get lucky and make one hit, who are u to hate, that's one more hit than u made.
--
Top 10 debuts of this year by region:
West:
....

Yung Joc #3
^^^
Men lie, women lie, numbers don't. The south aint goin no where, no matter how hard u close ur eyes and click the heels of ur dusty Tims. That's not a quality list, but it does show that we still can move units at the same rate, or better than any other region, regardless of quality.
Here we go AGAIN with a artist BLAMING HIS LABEL. Pap and Slay KNEW about Jive records. They tried to keep their deal on the low... I remember Slay gettin' all hyped up... and talkin' shit about the $$$ they received from the label... NOW LOOK!!
And I'm a Kay Slay fan, but itz a wrap for Pap. His style of rap will not be accepting in mainstream. There are niggaz NICER THAN HIM, who can't get a crack at mainstream (Royce, Budden, AZ).... so I don't see any hope... Dude should've gotten his break in the mid to late 90z... when cats were on their A games lyrically....
As far as Jay??? I don't know whether to get excited about hearing new music, or what? cuz all of the critics are about to shower these blogs YET AGAIN, about how he's "washed up," "how he should retire", blah, blah... just takin' all the fun out of his return...
Saigon knocked out Prodigy on stage.
RINGTONES ASS RAPPERS IS KILLING HIP HOP says...
The only reason why the south has that many Top 10 debuts is because your putting the WHOLE Souther region against one city. The same goes for Chicago.
Now if you Break it down by the City it would look like this:
Los Angeles: crickets
New York:
Mims #4
Fabolous #1
Talib Kweli #2
Swizz Beatz #7
50Cent #2
Chicago:
Common #1
Kanye West #1
Atlanta:
T.I. #1
Young Jeezy and USDA #4
Yung Joc #3
Some where in Alabama:
Rich Boy #6
Memphis:
Young Buck #3
8ball & MJG #8
Houston:
Paul Wall #8
UGK #1
Maimi:
DJ Kahled #8
T-Pain #1
So in conclusion NEW YORK WINS!!!

@ RINGTONES ASS RAPPERS IS KILLING HIP HOP says
u can manipulate the facts how u want, but when rap music is getting put in categories it's always south, east, west, and mid-west. Even Reckless refered to the "south", not any one specific city. I would have included Phily and Jerzy and changed it from "NY" to "EastCoast", but both those cities aint done a damn thing in years.
Why is reckless hating on the song "Change Clothes". That song changed the game. That song got niggaz dressing like grown men - is something wrong with that?
If Hove hadn't drop that song, niggaz would still be wearing 7xxl white tee-shirts and throw back jerseys . . .oh my fault, them Gay-TL niggaz still do that.
I'm glad 2pac didn't make no songs like Change Clothes, Niggaz would have been wearing nose rings and tight leather vests!!!!!
yall seen Oscar de la Hoya's hot pics? hmmmmm DAMN!

On the real though, this dude Jay-Z go around calling himself the "The Voice of the Young People" and shit like that but he ain't had shit to say about the Jena situation, Jay need to step the fuck up.
Kayne too, dude want to get all emotional about some VMA awards, but ain't said shit about the Jena 6.
No one is free while shit like this is going on. These hip hop dudes is looking real fucking weak, they only come around when they want you to buy they album or they clothes, but when you need them to use the fortune and fame that we, their fans and supporters, helped them gain they are no where to be found.
How the fuck is David Bowie going to give money to the cause before 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Puffy, Kanye, Nas, etc..All these dudes running around talking that "Black Power" shit ain't nothing but some pacified coons. I ain't supporting Jay until he speak out, to whom much is given much is expected and yes that means you.
Also where the fuck is Russell's HHANN or whatever the fuck they call themselves, the hip hop community is looking real weak right now. These rappers want to go hard on Al Sharpton but atleast he stands for something besides money, cars, and hoes.

Let's be clear. Pap didnt get 1.5 mill up ffront. 1.5 mill represented 500k budget per album on a 3 album deal. since the first album never dropped the budget was never released so basically they didnt see any $ other the the money they had to pay scott storch, snoop, and other producers, features they used

True Al Sharpton has many faults, but if was perfect his name would be Jesus Christ. For all his faults atleast the man isn't scared to put himself on the for front for his people, if the money is right and press will be there.
I don't agree with alot of what Sharpton does but he does provide a voice for our people. As a young black man who grew up in the 90's it would be cool to see one these hip hop dudes step up, but they to busy trying to make money to care.
Dudes go around comparing themselves to Malcolm X and other REAL freedom fighters but when the fight is on they running like Cam at the Rucker leaving the community to get defend itself like Jim Jones.

Fact of the matter remains, what the kids did was assult. They need to be tried for assault. Just because some whities put up a couple nooses (which isnt against the law for some reason) dosent mean you can go jump some kid 6 on one and send him to the hospital. Was the kid even involved in the noose thing?
