Footage of Ja Rule/Lil Wayne Arrest - Plus the Video for "Uh Oh," Red Cafe Links with DJ Envy for "The Co-Op"

| 389 Comments

Many of you know that both Lil Wayne and Ja Rule were arrested and charged with gun possession in NYC the other night. According to NY laws--as I think back to reading the ads in the subway cars-- anyone caught with unlicensed weapons are subject to a mandatory three years minimum. But of course, everyone knows a three-year sentence winds up being a year or less. And neither of them are going to do time regardless. Check out the footage. Props to Eskay.

Note: Link for NY gun laws 1, 2

Meanwhile, the video for Ja Rule's Lil Wayne-featured "Uh Oh" has been plaguing internet outlets everywhere:

Can't blame homie for trying. But somehow I think that this has too much of a '98-'99 "Holla Holla" feel to it.

Now that Brooklyn's Red Cafe has gathered up a little bit of buzz with his latest single, the Fabolous and Jermaine Dupri-featured "Dolla Bill," he and Hot 97 personality DJ Envy are on the brinks of releasing The Co-Op via KOCH September 25th. Dropping verses on the disc will be Styles P, Sheek Louch, Fat Joe, and many others.

The next single set for release will be "Things You Do," featuring Nina Sky.

I don't know, man. My optimism for these dudes has yet to resurface. However, that "Dolla Bill" has begun to run its course; it isn't half bad in the club, and I can even stand to hear it on the radio. We'll see.

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

Mario Savio “Gears of the Machine” speech

Most people would disagree with me on my opinion that this is one of if not the greatest revolutionary speech ever delivered but I think it speaks so much for our generation and the deafening stagnation that our culture has faced. I read the post for last Friday (yeah I’m late) and the comments were appreciated. I did see a comment that made me delve into the social aspect of hip hop in the community. N-Site mentioned that hip hop is not responsible for changing the community and that the rap artists don’t bear any responsibility and that it starts at home. And while I agree that a child’s moral base starts at home I believe also that after the age of 5 that a child spends an average of 5 hours a day with his or her parents during the school year; I also know that 85% of the teachers in America are middle aged White woman and that the average child watches 3 to 4 hours of television a day, let’s not fool ourselves into believing that those outside influences that exist in our community don’t deteriorate the moral base of the community. How many kids listen to their parents these days? Who’s got your kids? Middle aged White Woman and Rappers raise your kids. American education doesn’t reflect the contributions of your culture so it deters young Black children from feeling the need to contribute in the imbibing of the education. If the music wasn’t so strong in its influence you would see a plethora of styles (clothing, language, ect.) in the community instead of the linear exchange of White T’s and Tims, music becomes a double edged sword in our community, it can inspire us to revolutionize, feel the Holy spirit in Church (Not me) or it can influence us to kill or desensitize us from the violence. The rappers are just as responsible for telling the truth as the Middle aged White Woman teaching the kids, she doesn’t and neither does the rapper. How wrong are we to not to see this, or make excuses for what we know is wrong. I think that today the industry puts the simple rappers out to keep the masses just that simple. I mean simple in the Langston Hughes sense (read up on it). Intelligence dictates who you will listen to, I’m not saying that every gun busting rapper needs to go, but I am saying that not every rapper is who they say they are. I’m also not saying that every “so called” gun busting rapper is dumb but what I am saying is that they have enough clientele to support the theory that these people will believe the bullshit that is said. We need the streets griots to inform the haves of what is going on in the have not communities however a revolution needs to come from the real street disciples not the ones feeding your kids the poison for a couple dollars that’s real ho nigga shit. I don’t expect every rapper to be a Common Sense that would be boring but what you do need is EMCEES WHO DON”T LIE TO YOU. Demand the change don’t wait for it don’t ask for it. Step to a wack nigga talking that dumb gun bustin shit and ask him or her would you be bold enough to defend you community, smart enough to declare that you have honor and ill enough to change the circumstances that you think you have no control over and master the world. Visualize the strength of the community and the music and it will be. Power to the people.

you JARULE is this how you try to get your ghetto pass?

This sounds too much like a publicity stunt. How else do you explain the press getting footage of his arrest? Ja trying hard to look gangsta again. But niggas from queens know you softer than a poptart money.

Probably got one of his homies to film it..give it up ja.you are over.

The Hate Crimes Amendment has been buried into the ground. God Bless America! Now, I'm off this before Brooklyn Boozo spends the whole day trying rub out the truth and try to act like his spitting some knowledge, when his only playing a game of holla-hoop. As far as the SOHH topic lame, check out Big Suns post though and comment on that, there's alot of validation too it. We should all be held responsible including artist, but it seems like the love of money has the best of us.

Ja Rule will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be liked again. I swear to god he is the most hated person on Earth. I be everywhere in the US and overseas and NOBODY likes him. People hate 50, people hate Game, etc etc but the hate is usually local hate. Like NYers hate 50 the most and Cali dudes hate Game but EVERYONE hates Ja Rule. Shit is OD.

ppl hate ja in tha states only i think even so its only tha hardcore fifty fans that hate ja but to be honest ppl like ja rules music, worldwide ppl luv ja, tha 50 thing does not apply worldwide, ja still sells overseas. Americans view tha world only as tha USA and only has a population of jus 200 million and tha world is 6 billion. ja rules album in tha US believe it or not did better than young bucks and lloyd banks recent albums combined, and tha same album outsold fabolous's album in all markets

Fuck you Big Sun. I went to the corner store to grab a Dutch master & I seen like 4 niggas in a cypher. They was spittin that fire, son! Anyway I stuck around for a few minutes, then this one kid stepped up and started spittin the most gangsta shit I've ever heard in my life! So when he was done I stepped to him an said, "would you be bold enough to defend you community, smart enough to declare that you have honor and ill enough to change the circumstances that you think you have no control over and master the world". He said, "Hell yeah, I'm bold enough to defend my community and I'm gonna start right now." Then this dude sucker punches me in the nose. So now I'm on the ground bleeding like it that time of the month. Then he says to me, "I'm am a master of my own world white boy. Power to the people" Then he ran threw my pockets and took my rent money. So thanks alot Big Sun for helping me to bring a positive change my community.

jlflkfzlkfg says....Are you crazy? 50 has a larger fan base overseas than he does in America. He sells about 6 million records per album overseas. Overseas 50 is God. They don't even know who Ja Rule is except the guy 50 disses. The fuck you talking about Ja Rule sells overseas? Lmao, his last album sold like 300,000 worldwide. That means here and overseas...Please don't make shit up as you go along.

JT is not gonna save him either. And after talkin all that shit he needs to make sure that his shit does sell more then Kanye's on 9/11 or its a Wrizzy. But yea..he already got his built in excuse now...Vitaminwater...It doesnt matter...yea...unless u tryin to sell rap records...

I smell an Evil Kanevil. Ja, stop w/ the publicity stunts. Contrary to what ppl think, Ja Rule's career woulda been over by now w/o 50 Cent. How long did you think those R&B thug songs were gonna last?

Lol @ Alp...I'm not even going to lie, 50 fell off but The Massacre wasn't that bad. So far I can listen to all of his singles except Straight to the Bank and I get money is a club banger right now. He'll sell a lot of records overseasa alone. That is why he's doing the worldwide release. He wants to sell 2-3 million in 1 week.

REAL TALK

did u get ur Pulitzer for reporting on ms.Pigford?? u say u millionaire?how?
by reading blogs all day?

@SLIM

hey slim if u pop up on here what you thought about hells kitchen?

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested [a] from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Adam and Eve
4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens- 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth [b] and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth [c] and there was no man to work the ground, 6 but streams [d] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground- 7 the LORD God formed the man [e] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin [f] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. [g] 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam [h] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [i] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib [j] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, [k] '
for she was taken out of man."

24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

11 El nombre del uno era Pisón; éste es el que rodea toda la tierra de Havila, donde hay oro;

16 Y mandó Jehová Dios al hombre, diciendo: De todo árbol del huerto podrás comer;

1520 Sedgwick Avenue Honored as a Hip-Hop Landmark Today

The State of New York has officially announced its recognition of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the South Bronx as the birthplace of hip-hop and a landmark. 1520 Sedgwick Avenue is home to a community room where the father of hip-hop, DJ Kool Herc, played in during the 1970s. The site, however, has been closed for renovations since last year, prompting hip-hop and community organizers to make a bid to have the location honored as a landmark. Today, organizers will hold a press conference at the historic location to announce the New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation have approved the July 2 application to make the site an eligible historic landmark. According to the New York State Office, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue “meets the eligibility criteria being that it is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad pattern of our history.”

"Nerd ass white boy from Denver says...

Oh and Ja didnt shoot shit. It was preme and that was because of Ghetto Kuran, it had nothing to do with Ja. Ja didnt stab 50 either, that was Ty and because they turned the lights off, he couldnt see shit. Plus it was like 3 stiched or some shit, lol, how you gonna be proud of that? LMFAO. Buck and Banks first solos were multi plat and so was the G-Unit group album. Ja only sold 1.43 mil whenEminem was double diamond and shit. You gotta compare the climate of rap sales then and now, kna mean?

Oh and ask Ja who snuffed him for his chain? His boy had to trade a Rolly to get his shit back, lmao.

Fact is you gotta just base shit on the music, nobodys really real except Buck anymore anyway. You hear that shit PimpC said about Jeezy? Damn. I just go by the music I like, the drama is for baby mommas.

alotta rappers get locked up by the same cops, with the same type of gun, and performed at the same club together.

that happens all the time. SMH

i guess ringtones are the new singles and getting locked up is the new "artist development"
