Please Clarify. "They" does not equal "White" people. "They" are people who aren't poor. Politics in this country are not necessarily centered around race. The poor don't vote, so the poor doesn't count. All of these things that are happening are affecting "Poor" people, not just black people.

Yeah I agree. What 50 has been able to accomplish is great. No other Black rapper that I know of have been able to do what he has done in such a short period of time. He is a gifted brother but his gifts are in other areas but not in politics and black consciouness.

Many times I am caught in a bad situation with 50 because I don't want to hit him up personally it is just that I am so pissed at the dumb shit a fan said. So in order to show them how fuckin stupid they are I unfortunately have to hit up 50.

Quit blaming Katrina on the Federal Government...I took a class from one of the lead FEMA coordinators in the southeast and people didn't realize how dangerous the situation was in New Orleans and the threat relief workers were under from the CITIZENS they were trying to help. Tankers of Water and Gasoline were being hijacked at gunpoint by local law enforcement to bring to their own friends and family. Relief workers were threatened and fired at by local citizens. It got so bad they had to send the military in to maintain the peace. Those people didn't want to help themselves, didn't heed advice to leave the area, and then were ungrateful and often violent when help did come (I am not speaking about all or even a majority of citizens, but isolated incidents do have a very serious and damaging effect because the first priority is the safety of the workers). Also, disasters are first handled on a local level, and the governor of Florida had to empty all of its relief supply stockpile and hand it over to Louisiana because their local and state government did not prepare for any such event as well as Florida had...which consequently left Florida extremely vulnerable if there had been any emergency situation with its citizens. Please stop talking about how Katrina was some white conspiracy. It was a disaster at the local and state government level first, then these mistakes and miscommunications ultimately led to the fiasco at a national level.

I know intelligent posts are few and far between in Forums, especially those about Hip-Hop, but I felt compelled to reply to this one.

However, I do agree that religous organizations should make profits. They should be able to generate funds. I don't think its a shameful thing to say that mistreatment is going on. Not at all. I just think that there is time and place for it. Just because something unfortunate happens to a group of ppl that are of a particular race, does not mean the race card must be pulled. As a black woman, I think its more important to look at all aspects of a particular issue- especially one dealing with mistreatement. The reason why black ppl aren't taken as seriously as we could be is because we are quick to "cry wolf"- let me not say that. We're quick to brand the issue as pertaining to the fact that we're black. That is not always the case. I mean, it just isn't.

First, I have never condoned the war in Iraq. We all know what the US is doing there. Well, what Bush is doing there. Yes, money SHOULD have stayed domestically, so that in case of a catastrophic event such as Katrina, citizens of this country would be safe. I think that the masses agree with that notion. Two, I don't think that Bush created or even has the power to create a storm the magnitude of Katrina- let alone to have paved it on the way to hit New Orleans so that black ppl there would be eraticated.

Could they have done more, sooner? Perhaps. But am I gonna say that they didn't because the people were BLACK? No.

That's truth and you are right with that. America took it by storm after learning they could reap the benefits of the free labor and began going deeper into Africa just like you said. Africans themselves kept slaves mostly as prisoners of the internal wars, and sold them off. I know all that. And in no way was I tryin to negate slavery or speak on it as less than 1000% wrong. My point was that slavery in itself dates back thousands of years, and the oppression of the black man was not something new..created in early America by Americans in the 1500s, but rather one where people where enslaving and selling off within their own race. And this is not just Africa, but also Egypt, throughout Rome, etc. Slavery was never originally a race issue, but grew to become one.

Fact is that everyone knew the levees wouldnt withstand a cat 3 storm. Katrina was one of the strongest ever recorded.
If anyone fucked up it was the people that were responsible to build up those levees. But when a hurricane is on its way theres no time to do that.
I saw the videos and pictures and it wasnt just the poor areas affected. There were nice upper-middle class homes destroyed as well.
There wont be "gentrification" - harlem style in NO.
In most instances - IMO - those areas wont ever be rebuilt. There has to be jobs to support the economy of the city, most of the large companies have split with the jobs. Until the jobs come back, the building wont either.
Plus like I said, whos gonna want to move there now knowing at any time between May and December the whole city could flood?
Its not a good sitcho, but to claim there was a purpose behind it is just like any other conspiricy theory.

The government dropped the ball a long time ago by not strengthening the levees and grossly mishandled the aid after the storm. I agree.
But did they do this for a purpose, IMO - NO.

A common theme among minority communities is to blame the majority for their mishaps and shortcomings. Unfortunately it accomplishes nothing and makes the minority community look as if it is unable to help itself. African Americans are not the only minority to have entered this country and undergone some form of oppression. They are however one of the last few to fix their communities' major problems and move on. Just to name a few for you we have...Jews, Irish, Italians, Polocks, Slavs, Catholics, Asians, and there are many more. The African American community truly needs another strong leader such as the King, because Sharpton and Jackson are hard to take seriously and are often too biased, caring only for their communities and not society as a whole, like the Dr. was. This only creates further separation and prejudice.

Anywayz is holiday in Canada and before I go any further with my comments I wanna say to brother Bigup2bk or any homies not to come at my neck for this one. Somehow I gotta agree with brother B_tek regarding about 50's comments on the hurricane Katrina but don’t agree the way B_tek start with an insult. Though it was deeply sad to see our people, my fellow black people went through there’s nothing wrong what Fif said. Yeah, what 50 said kinda sound ignorant but if you look deep what he said he wasn't dissing the people of New Orleans, dissing Kanye West nor defending Bush.

Brother PZ correct me if am wrong. I went to church yesterday and this pastor was preaching about the last days. To summarized his long preaching he basically said that "we us human being are living in the eleventh hour and in the eleventh hour we gonna see things we not seen before and things we not heard before." He quickly took a verse from the Revelation and guess what, he was right about the last days we living in because if you read the book of Revelation it talks about the last days. As soon as he finished reading the verse he mentions some of the unthinkable things that has already happen. He mention the Tsunami, the huge Earthquake, the fight in the Middle East, the War going on Iraq, the Monsoon (if you don't know what Monsoon is, is a type of hurricane that happen in south part of China) and last but not least he mention hurricane Katrina. What shocked me is that the pastor basically said what 50 said. I aint saying he quote from 50 but he said "all this things are meant to happen and more unthinkable things will happen because it tells us that the end of coming Christ is very near and we human being should repent before the twelfth hour comes". So, these bring me back to 50’s comments and I don’t think 50 said negativity about New Orleans. Don’t get me wrong I aint g-unit die hard fan but Imma g-unit diet fan.

Regarding the 12th hour, your pastor was right on. It was Written! It is only going to get worse before it gets better...and prophecy is being fulfilled right now. Just as I mentioned earlier, I was watching a show on the history channel last night...and it was talking about all kind of different prophecies from all over the world, all different places...and they all point towards 2012. Now...of course we do not know the exact time that Christ returns, but He's coming.

We are in the last days RIGHT NOW! Disease, wars, rumors of wars, no changing of the seasons, natural disasters, creation of Israel, etc....it's all prophesied!

That's why I bring it so stern that folks need to stop bein hard headed and check up on this stuff.

One book that lays out the activities in the middle east, and parallels it with prophecy is a book called "Jerusalem Countdown" by John Hagee.

I've been saying it all along, there is nothing we can do to change the events that are coming...but we need to be getting prepared and sharing the truth with the world....the saving truth of Jesus Christ. Because during these last days, and before it happens...everyone will have had the chance to hear and receive it....and that is why it is being spoken in simple truths, not complicated by the church, but rather in direct easy to understand language by real folks.
