Wu-Tang's RZA, one of the group's key players, had a thing or two to say about where the sickly hip-hop lies his head at this moment in time. Via Thuglifearmy:
"Hip-hop is just unbalanced. Right now, rappers are glorifying their hell. How you gonna tell me it's cool to live in the ghetto? Who wants to live where you got rats, roaches, pissy elevators, shootings, killings, rapings, drug addicts, alcoholics, all in a four block radius?"

I've heard rappers casually mumble or briefly utter these words in close proximity, but I had yet to hear someone break down the science of monotonous subject matter... until now. My question was this: When poverty-turned-Top Dog rappers are no longer in the hood, what do they have left to spit about? Unless you're a poet like Pac, Mos, or Common, there aint much for rappers to say (Hov, as proven on his last album). And if you're a successful rapper living the elite, posh kind of lifestyle, then chances are many of your listeners aren't taking your ghetto war stories serious. Such as rappers like 50 Cent.
Broke, thirsty rappers who are still living in the Ps have everything hood to write about. So even though RZA may not agree that this is what MCs should be rapping about, some artists only have the hood to speak on. Other rappers, who have caught a come-up in society, are the ones that shouldn't be spitting bars about a life they don't even live anymore.

You missed the whole point. He was simply questioning the fact that cats are "bragging" about "things" that they do. He specifically pointed out that 7 out of 9 Wu-Tang members have also engaged in such "things", but didn't see a reason to glamorize them. There is more to life than that, and some of those things should be explored as well. I agree with him. There ain't nothing fly about living in the ghetto. I, like many other people I grew up with, worked to get the hell out. I couldn't possibly see myself going around telling me people how "great" the hood is. That's just crazy...

But rza I still am a fan, I know the albums dropping for sure now, cuz I haven't heared your comments about rap music in a while. But u could've kept that to yourself. Just like we love gangster movies and chinese flicks, we love gangster rap and tough talk. But we're smart enough to differentiate the real stuff from the entertainment. Everybody wasn't feelin the chinese skits and characters u guys portrayed. But some were. So we just gotta chill, study the hip hop game, and respect the shifts that the entertainment portion of hip hop shifts to.
I think hip hop is balanced. I think airplay and video play is not. But it's been that way since forever. We just gotta stay true fans and support the ones we love until they shine.

Rapper Snoop Dogg has been refused entry in Australia, according to Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews.
The rapper's visa was canceled because he failed the country's character test, which takes previous criminal convictions into account.
Snoop Dogg, who recently pleaded no contest to drug and gun charges, was due to co-host the MTV Australian Video awards on Sunday (Apr. 29).
"He doesn't seem the sort of bloke we want in this country," Andrews told Sydney's Macquarie Radio. "This man has been a member of a Los Angeles gang, and is still associated with it apparently, that's been involved in murder, robberies and drug dealing in the LA area."
Andrews also added that the rapper was given a warning for staying in Australia two extra days past his visa date during a visit last February.
Snoop Dogg's lawyer, Donald Etra, said he had not heard from the rapper and could not comment.
The rapper has 28 days to make an appeal.
This will be the second time this year Snoop Dogg has been barred from entering a country.
Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus, was banned from the UK and was unable to perform with Sean "P.Diddy" Combs at the "One Love Peace Tour" in March 2007.
In that incident, officials in the UK said Snoop was denied a visa and banned from the country because of an Apr. 2006 brawl between his entourage and airport security in London's Heathrow Airport.
