Nas Working on New Album, Talks More Promo for "Hip-Hop is Dead"

Just when the nonbelievers thought Nas was winding down, he re-ups once again.
Recently, Nas sat down to address the cats not on a high enough level to comprehend his movement, where he's at in his career and...more promotion in the works for his current release, Hip-Hop is Dead, which is, if I might add, doing damn good with no promo at all.
He told MTV:
"I'm looking forward to having a summer or fall release. But summer, that's the time of the year I wanna crack it open. I'm having such a good time. Like I said years ago, it's about having fun now. I'm having such a good time, and with the music, I've gotten ahead of myself. I'm just trying to share that with the people now. Because the way I've been feeling after I did [Hip Hop Is Dead], I wanted it to flow a lot freer. I had to get some shit off my chest about hip-hop being dead. I know I was gonna be over niggas' heads with the title, so I didn't want to just leave niggas and they couldn't catch up. Now I don't care if they don't catch up. I don't care. I'm all the way gone. When I do this next shit, I'm outta here. I'm not holding back on this one.""I did what I had to do. I'm free with it. I've got the fame, I've had the paper for over a decade. I got the love. A nigga is just flying free and having a bunch of fun. I'm getting my greedy on this year and having a ball. I'm getting my greedy on in a good way, though. I'm having fun. I'm like, 'Could it get any better?' In life, you got ups and downs. I'm enjoying the ups."
"We're getting ready to shoot the next video now. I got two directors working on two songs. I don't know which [song] is coming first, so I don't want to say what's coming first, but it's "Black Republican" and "Hustlers." It's looking good. It's looking larger than life. It feels good. I'm probably going to get another single after the next two. 'Cause usually I drop two singles and I'm out of your face until the next album. But I'm getting so many requests to release so many different singles, so I'm gonna try to give this one life before the next one comes out. You gonna probably see a flurry of shit right before the next album, just so I got it all off on this album."

And it's funny... I remember reading back in '96 when Nas was so arrogant and big-headed that he walked onto a stage in a Midwestern city, then turned around and walked off the stage claiming that "the crowd was too weak." Two years ago he couldn't fill Madison Square Garden, nowadays he could probably sell out the entire arena. What rappers need to remember is that careers fluctuate; never take anything for granted. Because the smaller audiences that you don't think matter too much will be the first ones to kick a nigga when he's down. He's lucky he was able to get back up.

that black republicans track has got to be one of the most hynotising beats i ever heard in hip hop....it however somehow always make think of The Wire....even the lyrics make me think of Stringer and Avon...Bodie, Poot, Wallace.....man!

HHID is a classic album for the haters to hate and supports to love. Esco knew exactly the response he was going to receive when he titled the album but like he said above he doesn't care. He could give 2 shyts about how the next man feels about his projects.
The album was clearly directed towards grass root fans of Hip-Hop aka the Old Heads how u young similac breath ni99as like to call it.

Chicago what you have to remember though is after an artist completes an album the label puts it through focus groups and the focus groups tell the label what works and what doesnt. How much radio play do you think he would receive if they would have allowed him to keep Kill the DJ on the album? no radio play = no profit The label made him change it.

Didn't get no promo? Nas was all over BET when Jay's album dropped, than again when his gimick *cough* album dropped. He was all over MTV, all over the radio. Niggas like Jeezy and TI even helped him out by questioning the HHID movement. Plus he already has 2 videos out.
Wake the phuck up Reckless, it's not Def Jam's fault this time. HHID was a mediocre album at best. In the military, this is what we call "good initiative, bad execution". The concept was good, but the album was sub-par, I skip over half of it. But I can't wait to see that 'Black Republican' video. Just havin Jay in it will push him past platinum. Jay did own that song from start to finish.

I been tryin to tell niggas that HHID along with Lupe's Food&Liquor and The clipse HHNF is the best album of 06' hands down. I think a video for Hustlers or Black republicans would definitely push the album to platinum status, but i would rather see a video for Let there be light or still dreaming because both songs have such vivid lyricism and a video would do both songs justice.

Im aware record sales have no bearing on an artists talent, im just pointing out this dude reckless is obsessed with sales and if an album sells poorly he's the first to come on here and say the artists career is over. Except for nas, he made a blog congratulating him when he went gold(after about a month) like he's bringing new york hip-hop back or something and then he'll turn around and diss mobb deep or dipset branding them failures for doing similar numbers. And no promo? Please..this album was hyped all over tv radio and the net from the day nas signed to def jam.

Now this is Hip-Hop Nas bringing that real talent back to the game. I would love to see both videos made, but if I could only get one then I'm going with Black Republicans with Jay-Z that will be a great look for Hip-Hop. The lesson in this for Nas and anybody else who need to learn is "this is what happens when you try and serve two masters." Nas tried to hard to balance his art with the BS that makes the most money. Not just because he wanted the money but because he wanted the fame too.
So he has ended up with a house divided. But he got enough of what he wanted from both so he's "happy" for now.
But in a true analysis of his music his embalance hurts him more than it helps. Nonetheless i'm a fan, sometimes. Loved some of HHID, some. It is a classic though.
