It's been a long time coming, but this Long Island rap crew, R-Side--which consists of Young Ceez, Capitol E, Hoodlum, and Pre--is on the road to success with their debut mixtape The Relapse. Although thrown in a pool full of competitors, gimmicks, and thousands of artists just trying to make it, these Roosevelt, Long Islanders are bringing something refreshing to the game: depending on themselves to get their name out there as opposed to trying to use industry outlets and record labels to catch a come-up.
More Than Muzic, LLC is headed by The Bronx's Levar Braham and L.I's Christopher Elliott, who are relentless when it comes to giving their crew the best. They've worked hard, and their focus and drive on both the music and networking end of things is what eventually landed them with an introductory drop from New York Hot 97's renowned Fatman Scoop.
Tracks to look out for: one of the beginning tracks, "Start the Party," the smooth-sampled, hypnotizing head-banger "Nah, Nah," and the for-the-ladies "Give Me Your Love," which, although not articulated as lyrically but still well done nonetheless, is reminiscent of one of the summer time love cuts from Styles or Kiss. The sample is nicely done.

He's dissing Cam "Piggybank" style. Y'know throw some jabs at him to make him think he's gonna come back hard. After Cam responds their may be a couple of G-Unit disses towards Cam or Dip Set if they don't get involved. Then the blackballing begins. It's a no win situation. I ain't been a 50 fan since the "Get Rich or Die Tryin". The only other G-Unit album I ever had, or even heard...was Young Buck. I just wasn't diggin the change up from the hardcore to the bubble gum. But see...50 ain't never change really, he was just adapting playing the big business for that money. And we know now that is what 50 is about...not the love of hip hop..but gettin that cheese.
Now, this track...this reminds me of the old 50, and even though I don't condone or listen to hip hop, 50 murked em on this one. I actually find within myself, actually feeling 50 Cent again on the strength of just that one song. I'd have to say, he's probably definetly gonna put the nail in the coffin in a few minutes.

I just finished listening to 50 Cent's "The Funeral," a diss track aimed at Cam'ron... Man, not to pat myself on the back, but last week on the Fire, I said exactly what 50 says on this track. Last week I said:
"First and foremost, does Cam'ron realize that the biggest draw in the Dipset camp is not him!? It's not Juelz Santana (bandanas and belts). Not JR Writer (Like the 12th man off an NBA bench) and certainly not Hell Rell (Rhymes as if he's the President of the National Rifle Association...Billllaaaaat). Need a hint, who's Dipset's biggest draw? Ok. BAAAAAALLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIN!"

That said, throughout the track it's pretty clear that 50 is just sending warning shots. In addition, he seems to be taking this whole situation lightly. Here's what F'Fif says as the beat rides out:
"I'm not going to destroy Dipset, but you got to make changes. From now on Jimmy is the boss of Dipset and Juelz is the Capo. We like Jimmy better anyway. Ballin. Come on man, what was the last Cam joint you like? Computers Computin' HAHAHAHA! Cameron, you better learn how to talk to me..."
I started this Fire laughing because of 50's impersonation of Cam's repetitive rap style. Of course, Cam is going to go all the way in and fire back with something deemed hard, but that's what 50 wants. This track, "The Funeral," is just the bait to draw Cam in.
50 also does say, "Word on the street is 50 ain't Jay and Cam better stay out his way." Wow.
You know we see 50 singing in videos and talking about how rich and successful he is, but look dude in the eyes and there's still that Southside menacing aspect to him. Just because he lives in Connecticut, doesn't mean he's not hood.
Best thing about this track is it's accompanied by a video. Cam must have really pissed 'Fif off, huh? The video shows 50's cronies loading clips into guns and squeezing them off. I'm sure there more of this on its way...

YO! PZ I tried to watch this but it's kinda long and a brotha at work, so i'll check it out when i get home.
I might usually wait for a response from Cam before I evaluate a situation like this, but I'm going to break from the nrom and say... "It's a wrap ladies and gentlemen!" Why does Cam continue to open his mouth and put himself out there like that??? He's starting to look like a "coat tail rapper"... stirring up beef with folks to hipe himself up. The song is just ok I think he could of used a better beat I don't know. But Cam did sound nervous when 50 said "You want that" lol. Cam was a beast during CHildren Of The Corn, and his first 2 albums were crack, but once he dropped Come Home With Me he fell off big time. 50 he was dope at first too, with Guess Who's Back and Power Of The Dollar and his early G-Unit mixtapes, i would put Get Rich on there, but to be real i was only feeling a couple tracks.

on the artistic value of the whole thing, eventhough it's hella larry david, which i would imagine to be an amazing hip hop humor piece, it comes off like that video the white rappers sullie, john brown, and john boy shot. since when is video birds paid to pawn at a nigga intimidating? definitely not original. and yeah, i understand that he did it on some quick shit, but i'm saying, if you really have bank like that, a person can be paid to think of something "good". seriously, what percentage of the $200,000 it took to make that you think went into concept?

so as far as i'm concerned, cam's rebuttle trumped the fuck out of fifty's song and video. except for the fact that fifty's song could be played in a club and people would actually enjoy it. fifty still isn't nearly as clever. not one half way witty line... it's all "i'll beat you, we'll stab you, i'm a boss" like the school yard bully. too dumb to compose an articulate thoughtful statement.

as for the r-side cats, keep doing your thing. i respect grind, you guys got a flow, but not an original sound. holler at some new producers, and don't be afraid to try something different. go check out "daft punk" or "ratatatat" or even the dj's "justice". them dudes have original sounds that can be rapped to, or over.... shit even busta rhymes sampled daft punk for that touch it joint. even though he didn't show improve on. don't be afraid to get on some dinky weird shit that bumps and see what you can do. for real, sped up samples are kinda played too. at least with me it is.
even when it comes to the lyrical content. don't be afraid to push the envelope. hennesy on butts is not impressive nor is it clever. i don't meant to single any one emcee out, i'm just saying.
your party song is sorta bedtime music... not like something you'd hear in a club. the synth is way too slow and lacks any real tension, at least by my standards.
if you want to reach a larger audience you got to try and break out of that same old new york bullshit boring stiff beat nonsense.
like i said, don't be afraid to sample some eclectic genres of music. have you heard of "congotronix"? or "yamasuki"? shit, i can't believe i just dropped those gems on yall, but really, if all you listen to is hip hop/r&b/mowtown/soul music, you really haven't a palate large enough to understand what makes good music. you got to branch out. that's what good producers and dj's do. they have the ability to peruse other styles of music and apply them to hip hop/rap. look at timbaland... he basically butt raped the sounds of drum and bass. or even the whole baltimore scene that's a revamped jungle/house sound.

Just so you know the team consists of 2 attorneys (Chris (Co-Ceo) & Walter (Dir. of Legal & Business Affairs). So thats two more you can add to the list! =0) I would have been an attorney also but I chose not to pursue law school. But I may have to reconsider b/c as a paralegal I am doing alot of the attorney's work anyway. lol I agree with you to the extent that education is important. But I still feel that everyone should pursue their dream at least that way you have no regrets.
Dreg: thanks for the comment that is what we were hoping for. Some type of unbaise realistic criticism. We have certainly been looking for some new sounds. We got an ill song using a sample from Bjork. We got alot more versitility then we have shown. But you will see in the future for sure. Thanks for being thoro and making some real points that we can take into consideration.
Now that i give it a listen in the headphones and not the dinky laptop speakers, i got to give a bit more credit to you all. i still think that the production could be a bit more thorough, but your emcees aren't too bad. they shine most on "put it in the pot" although it isn't by any means on some amazing shit, they hold their own and keep it a bit interesting.
"nah nah" is my personal favorite as far production and hook execution. it's technically a solid use of the sped up sample. definitely the one track that gets my head nodding. prolly cause it seems to be the most simple if i'm not mistaken.... mainly the sample and the drum track? yeah well, it's got its bit of bump.
Also the put it in the pot track has that nicely sprinkled post production pitch bend at the end of verses, choruses, and other spots to keep it interesting. and like i said, the emcees hold their own with the "met a 4's" and puns. also don't be afraid to experiment with song structure. don't fall victim to the verse chorus verse chorus stable. rember the "breakdown" and that repetition isn't a bad thing... look at eek a mouse or papa toyan of reggae/dancehall.
they could dig a bit deeper though i think. it's like a basquiat painting... he'll show you the gun, the splatters, with some words, but you gotta understand, that was popping and cutting edge in the early 80's gallery scene, now people look for a bit more context, concept, and self analysis, ya dig? just peep this review of the clipse album. heads really analyze what you say if you plan on being lyric heavy, so dig deep and show em who you are by giving some contemplative thought to what comes out your mouth.
otherwise, have fun, do some drugs*, write some fire and light it up. translation, experiment. cause the dogs on the dog track don't never really get anywhere for all that work.... it's the stray ones that get to see some real shit... and prolly fuck more bitches too.
