I peeped Nahright the other day, and what I saw was yet another Bad Boy artist stuck in a rut. This time it's G Dep.
The Bad Boy recording artist, who released his first and last album in 2001, entitled Child of the Ghetto, has been shelved like many other artists on the label and left to find other ways to make a living. And if "other ways" include venturing out to another label, that option's pretty much a dead end, given the fact that any material released will still belong to Bad Boy Entertainment (because the contract has yet to meet its quota).
Look at how Diddy has given himself extensive promo, two videos, and three singles for his mediocre pop-tunish Press Play. However, Danity Kane did considerably well and still weren't allowed a second vid until after their album had tipped towards the bottom of the charts. The Lox had it out with Diddy for quite some time before the beef was settled, Ness will probably never be heard from again, even though his official deal with Bad Boy isn't even a year old yet. Where is that kid crew B5? What happened to Cheri Dennis? All these artists sign on only to get written off. It's not fair.
And like Eskay said, some of these artists need to be doing their homework on the business aspect, but at the same time, what someone said was true:
"diddy is heartless. Only if the lox, g-dep, black rob…etc knew then. He's seen in a different light cuz he's black and you'd think he'd do his best to help his own people, but he's just as bad as the rest [of the executives]. It's a shame. "
Why does Diddy continue to shelve his artists? There's an entire list of artists that have fallen through the cracks under his watch; this is not a coincidence.

That brings up the point that even though an artist isn't releasing albums, doesn't mean they are not working under badboy. there might be a something in there contract that says that they can get out a contract in time or based on the amount of work they put into ghostwriting, singing background vocals, etc for Badboy or lending them out to other labels. not everyone workin for puff has to drop an album.

As much as I'm back on 50's side...I don't wanna here shit about that failed attempt at a 50 and Diddy battle. It means nothing. What I will say is G.Dep was dope and I'm mad that he's been just sitting in the camp turning into a Hoodfella (Cheesecake) for real. I wasn't mad at the last Album. It wasn't all that but it was decent. But he did put out a Black Rob album last year. If you want to look at the numbers, Bad boy went nearly ten years without releasing an album that didn't go at least plat. Really think about how incredible of a run that is.
you know why they were able to do it? They didn't release albums that weren't going to sell. Thats why the artist sit on the shelf, because they wouldn't sell if they did release an album (as evidenced by their sales after they leave bad boy).
Why won't he let them go? You mean you think giving G-Dep 350k, having him release one album, realizing he can't sell after that and letting him go to another label would be a GOOD business move? Right now, if an artist appears on another labels album, Puff gets a cut. If they release a album independently, Puff gets a cut. Like it or not, those artist are like stocks. Investments. And holding on to them pays dividends.

Man I never disrespect all the preaching you do on this blog. I appreciate your views, and never critize you even though I might not agree with all you say. I am not trying to change the world, I am just trying to make our people recognize that Prez. Day is a not a positive holiday to celebrate. If you want to celebrate the accomplishments of a select number of president's that is cool. Many have been great men. However I don't want to see Andrew Jackson's, Franklin's, Grant's, & GW's, racist face our my money.
My real name is Edward Gomes. The G is not for Gangsta it's my last initial. I also work on a daily basis as a social worker in a Juvenile Detention Center trying to help many underprivilaged youth. Youth of all races who have had a raw deal growing up. So don't judge me b/c I do not judge you. I don't want a day in my honor. I want a year where all positive people get light shined on them. How about a holiday for teachers, civil rights activist's, non profit groups who help the unfortunate etc.
