"As the years pass by, there is a younger generation that is going to start not knowing who The Notorious B.I.G is. The importance of who he is and still being the greatest rapper of all time is still evident [and] should be much smarter in our education of the Hip-Hop generation." -- Hot 97's DJ Mister Cee, The Source Magazine, Feb '07Biggie passed away on March 9, 1997. Next month will mark an entire decade since Biggie rocked the mic. Big Pun passed exactly seven years ago, on February 7th, 2000. May both rest in peace.
In the midst of it all, I have to admit that it's inevitable; the younger and younger generations are going to become oblivious to not only the greatness of Biggie, but of Big Pun as well. And it doesn't help that most of the ignorant rappers of today lack reverence for the great, don't study the art (come on, b...this lil' nigga Jeezy questioned THE NASIR JONES), and only do it for the cash; most real MCs do it because they want to, not to put food on the table. The essence of what rap once was has become quite sour, to say the least.
Had Biggie still been here, would Diddy be making this horrible music? Or would Brooklyn still be on top of the world? If Pun was still alive, would Terror Squad be a world renowned rap group, or perhaps an outlet for more classic underground albums? In case you didn't know, the first TS album was a gem.
But back to the subject at hand. I can't imagine a child asking me, twenty years from now, who that heavy Puerto Rican guy is painted on that wall on 163rd Street. I wouldn't feel right knowing that "Juicy" will sound as ancient to little shorty as "I Only Have Eyes for You" once did to me. But unfortunately, it's going to happen.
But that will be then, and this is now. For the moment, we can only carry on tradition for as long as possible.

"Yeah, this is dedicated to the ones who never made it/I hated the fact you faded away, you were the greatest/ So I say this prayer to pay my respects I'll never forget you cause you special/ I'll catch you in my heart may God bless you/ Rest in peace to my peoples who passed away (passed away)/ Best believe I'ma keep you alive always (always)/ Till the day we meet again face to face wit a grin/ In hell or heaven you my twin to the end, and I'ma miss you" -- Cuban Link, "Flowers for the Dead"
R.I.P BIG PUN!
To not have the younger generation to come forget who these great MCs were depends on us. We have to teach 'em....heck I'm 21 years old, so to speak I'm the younger generation compare to most dude that be on here(no pun intended)....but I've manage to learn a few things about Hip Hop from the discussions them dude be having....so to carry on tradition, we have to take upon ourselves to teach these young'n.
maybe you would have had to have been there when they were about to truly understand how great they were, like when cats get me to listen to dudes that was spittin in the late 70's early 80's, its lost on me. i'm not gon front.
But as far im concerned, BIG is the best that ever did it, those who wanna disagree can do so, but even today, the flow, the word play, the stories, the humour is still trying to be replicated.
capital punishment may just make my top 20, that album was crazy, u aint a killer, beware, capital punishment, all bangers. and wen i heard that 'dead in the middle of little italy' line, it was a wrap!
Yeah I'm feeling you on that shit Reckless. I think that the lack of swagger and pride in the flow of these dudes these days is because they don't understand the magnitude of the flow of Big Pun And Biggie. These dudes did it for real I mean the mic agression and swagger that both of them have is just a dying thing. I can't even believe that a guy like little wayne has the audacity to come at the necks of Nas and Jay when he has none of what either of them had nor the two Big's. It's sickening these days what rappers think is a flow. I'm ashamed of the emcees from my own hood Like Maino and red Cafe for makin us look like we lost it. Pap and Saigon seem like they got the best chance to shine but neither have captured or have the natural swag of Big freestyling on Fulton Street. What are we doing wrong? I don't understand how the flows have gotten worse then our predessesors. Hip Hop just seemed invincible until the best started dying off, Biggie, Big Pun, Big L. I just feel like the competetive nature of Hip Hop lyrics died without these emcees, shout out to the people tryin to keep it alive but shit just ain't the same.
BIG was so far ahead of his time i don't think these young MC's will ever catch up
R.I.P. Big Pun
Big Pun was more lyrical than Biggie and Pac. Get with it people.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
a lot of people were more lyrical than biggie was, nas/talib/dead prez. no one gonna front like he was the deepest on a conscious tip. but none of these dudes could see BIG.
pun was the shit tho, dont get it fucked up
@ manners j, I feel you on ur 1st post.
@ Realist,
really? Better than Pac...I can't agree with you on that one. Pac was a poet...not to say nutting bad about Pun.....but dude was a poet....the things he rapped about are stil going on today.
the younglings dont seem to care.
this is a gd post... sparked some real talk
gd work son
R.I.P. pun
big and pun were garbage, pac's music identified with the struggles of blacks[revolutionary]poppa and pun were just about money bitchez and fast cars.
They say Biggie is the greatest, yet they are afraid he'll be forgotten after 20 years. Wow! I say Tupac is the GREATEST, 20 years from now he'll still be relevant.
Oh! and unforgettable. That's PAC
(Just checking in real quick.)
Sup RECKLESS?!
About the blog. I dunno about BIG being the GOAT. (I know you didn't quote it, but clearly PAC was the victor.) But I think that PUN will be more-so remembered in the hispanic community. BIG will remained sampled in albums to come. The more important question should be whether or not the next generation understands and appreciates the music that paved the way. Will they be able to hear a sample when it played? Like this RICH BOY song that's out. You know half them kids on 106 and in the streets don't know that it's an RnB sample all the way. That's what I am talking about. Music education. (You ain't gotta be in a classroom to teach it.)
Shout out to NYC and the BX.
Biggie is the greatest of all time Pac could not touch Big. Wakeup Pac was not as lyrical as Biggie that's just a fact. He talked about more social issues but he was not as lyrical as Big, point blank.
Good post man, but you cant compare Pac , Pun and BIG. The just brought different aspects to the game. And to put them in competition when they arent here isnt fair, we dont know which way the music would have went(Pac might have quit rapping and been acting or running a label by now)But we gotta remind cats that these were some of the most ferocious niggas on the mike and to this day i cant think of any other cat's rhymes i have to rewind (with the exception of NAS)
sample when it played? Like this RICH BOY song that's out. You know half them kids on 106 and in the streets don't know that it's an RnB sample all the way.
^^^^^
@Rocky
Where did that come from?? As I recall it, Biggie used a number of old school R&B samples in his music. The first song I ever heard from him was using the "turn out the lights" sample from Teddy Pendergrass. How quickly yall forget shit!!!
So Biggie was true to the artform, he only picked up the mic cuz he wanted 2? So what were all the Versace, Coogi, and Cristal refrences he put in his rhymes??? Oops, I forgot, he only cared about the art form.NEGRO PLEASE. Yall NYC cats have selective memory. 4 real!!!!
I gotta go w/ Biggie over Pac. Yeah, 2Pac was a poet but he wasn't as clever as Big. That nigga had swagger for days and a flow that was effortless.
Now with that said, I will remember both Biggie and Pun but I still say Jay-Z is the GOAT just b/c he had a longer career on top. If Biggie were still alive...who knows. But I can't vote on greats based off two albums and guest tracks.
That all.
PEACE
Come on now Zone 4, man. Dude is just saying that the next couple of gens won't know a sample when its played.
The appreciation of music as a whole is going to the pits currently.
^^^^^^
Thank everyone who posted before me, for turing this into a real convo, and not a chance to hate Jeezy (like the wrighter indtended) for having an opinion.
Personally i dont care if the younger generations appreciate the rappers we grew up on, b/c thier will be musicians who will make a great impact, on the younger generations lifes... i understand how you want your kids to feel about Big, Pac, & Pun the same way your parents wanted us to fell the same way about Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Al Green and others... but there is no need to educate them on it, just like the music for yourself, and one day they will appreciate it, just like i bang that old School R&B music now, I didnt want to hear it back in the days, but now i will listen to that and just get my grown man on. My nephew (11 yrs old), will bang the hell out of some Pac, (he never liked BIG) but it's time for us to pass the torch and let these new rappers do what they do, b/c in 20 years, kids will be remembering what they were doing when they first heard "Throw Some D's". the same way we felt when we first "One More Chance". if they go back and arcive some Big and Pac when they get older it's cool, cause we do the same thing with the Isley Brothers, and the Ojays.
i think we shouldn't concern ourselves with who's better. BIG is my preference, but i wont argue about it cos it is subjectove, i can c why people would go for pac, and pac definately was more of an icon, i concede that, n trust me, i bump pac all day, lets keep it how it should b, where you could have mad love for both. not like how it is today, where niggas love a rapper so much, they emotions wont let em say his 'enemy' is nice. i.e game/50.
also lets keep to the point that kids wont no the impact these dudes made, even pac, dudes mentionin pac, he in the same boat as big n pun, yeh they still releasin his albums, shit he didnt wanna come out.but these youngins will never know the impact and buzz these dudes had. yall remember waitin on life after death and all eyes on me 2 drop? ahhh shit! now im hearing these cats out today, who are average at best, is meant to be legends. Fuck outta here
ZONE
What are you asking me exactly? You take a quote from my post, and use it in aggreance with me? I never said that BIG didn't sample. You saw me write that? What are you saying, so that I may understand you clearly before I sound off (if need be.)
I don't think this blog is about who is the GOAT. It's about these artists being forgotten. Everyone is gonna have their opinion about who is the best. Everyone's got different ears. Right? Okay. So be easy and don't get your panties (yes those) in a bunch at 9am. You've got at least 8 more hours to go.
Big never wrote a syllabel down. He is the GREATEST MC of all time. On mic no one could fuck with Big Poppa dead or alive. Pac's a great poet and perfected his art much like Nas, Common, Kweli etc...
Big will never be replaced. Jus coz a rapper aint concious don't mean he aint got crazy skillz dont make him any less relevant, take Jigga and Pun as prime examples. Since when has street knowledge not been relevant to the struggle?? How you gonna sart a revolution listnin to all about you and i get around Blackdhalia??

100% co-sign
Pac was great because he was rapping about shit that other MC's weren't. He also has a million songs. I think that's why people say he's the greatest because he has like a zillion songs. But lyically, BIG was better. Pac & Big are the greatest becasue almost every 106 & park rapper has "swager jacked" these dudes. From the clothes, to interviews, vidoes, the way they act, and even to the way they spit.
On the Hip Hop history, I think every city should have an old school rap radio station. Just like the old school R&B stations that play mostly old school shit, but still add some new school to it. I learned alot about the old school from watching Old school Wednesday's on Rap City.
Now with that said, I will remember both Biggie and Pun but I still say Jay-Z is the GOAT just b/c he had a longer career on top. If Biggie were still alive...who knows. But I can't vote on greats based off two albums and guest tracks.

If Biggie was alive him and Jay-Z would be making diss records at each other
R.I.P. Big Pun...7 years later and I'm still rockin Pun like it just came out.(Biggie too) How can you say Pun only rapped about money and bitches? Check your history youngin...Theres at least 20 songs Pun doesnt talk about money or bitches. Dead in the middle of little Italy little did we knew that we riddled some middle men who didnt do diddly. Match that kiddos. The greatest eva!! Big Pun and Biggie.
Young rock fans know their history and appreciate the older rock vets, but young hip hop fans are ignorant as to who the people who pioneered this lovely thing known as hip hop are. I mean come one, you have people coming on here dissing Nas and Jay just because their favorite flavor-of-the-month rapper has a problem with them. There are too many sheep ass fans and not enough fans that think for themselves. That's the problem.
How you gonna sart a revolution listnin to all about you and i get around Blackdhalia??

i hate getting on here and putting people on blast, but this is a real dumb comment.
I get around- talking about fooling around with diffrent women
One More Chance- talking about fooling around with diffrent women
All about you- playing girls from state to state
Big Pappa- girls calling him the man every where he went
This BIG Vs. PAC shit is stupid, they had the same subject matter but just diffrent flows, the only that made pac stand out is that he was talking about more than BIG. Big had Skills, but his music is more like what the rappers are talking about now, Boats, Jets, Money, Expensive Clothes & Cars & death. Pac touched on Politics, the streets, he respected women, as well as disrespected women, life and death, and he also talked about money.
I dont know where this kid get starting a revolution shit from, go ahead and start one, i'll be checking for you on CNN.

i said it once n i'll say it again, that dead in the middle of little italy lyric was bananas. if u aint heard it, then i feel for u

I think newyork needs to get over it yall cant be mad because the south got the rap game in a choke hole i like the south although im not from the south because they brought a whole different swagga thats what hip-hop is about bringing new creativity from different places to the forefront its alot of newyork rappers that cant flow ass why ppl are saying that the southern rappers arent great lyricist suck southern rappers as lil-wayne, T.I, Yung Joc they can flow its some like fieldmob d4L that cant really flow just like its newyork rappers thats garbage like p-diddy tryna rap papoose etc.. newyork cant be mad because their not at the forefront of hiphop right now yall shined in hiphop the west coast shined in hiphop now its the south time to shine weather you hate it or love it the south is here to stay with their own SWAGGA

thanks,
I Give mad respect for BIG, PUN & Pac but pack was my fav in my opinion, I thought Pun was nice but i wasnt feeling him like some of his die hard fans were, but that's cool, they like what they like. I think the 2 albums Big put out were Heat, i still got both of them in my collection, but Pac was my nigga, he made music that made niggaz get emotional when they heard them, if you was beefing with a nigga and heard one of them beef tracks PAC did you would get amped up. if you heard one of them tracks givin love to the females you wanted to give love to the females. but that's my opinion, people will have their own opinion on who is the best, In my opinion None of them were the best, they all were great. pac was just my fav.
@ Victor Newman
My blog was aimed at Blackdalia sayin Big went against the culture. Did u even read it?
Posted by: Paper Long at February 7, 2007 9:34 AM
@ paper long,
I may have read your post wrong, i'll go back and read it.
follow the trends..thats all we do now. Every new artists puts out a hella mix tapes. pretty much copying some one else format and the n shop the labels. Labels dont care if you did enough units on the mixtapes you get signed. That's how it is now. All the stuff in the middle that artists used to get, ( like promotion, developement) is gone. labels don't time build their artists anymore. Biggie nor Pun dropped outa the sky with their swagger and flow that put them on. They did their thing and built their swagger while they developed their skills.
and dont start hollerin', 'they had mad skills always'. That's not what I mean, both were gifted musically and lyrically. But they had to DEVELOP their swagger. Biggie was doin the underground, touring and performing at REAL shows, long before he dropped ready to die. Shit, he even had to change his name rght before RTD droped. Pun too, pun produced and ghost wrote for mad dudes, Besides JOE. He also bulit his swagger and image over time. Honed his writing skills, and vocal performance.
Artist don't get that shit anymore. If you ready to go your not getting signed. And if you weren't ready you end up dropping an album that ends up in the discount bins. Every one had laughs for th DA BAND, and what they went through. but it used to be every artist went through that. Redman used to be the roadie for EPMD. TUPAC was a dancer/extra for Digital Underground.
Artist used to get developed, no they don't. That's why Hip Hop is dieing. Too many new artists are one hit wonders that can't make a decent second album.
Lets see how Paul Wall, Mike Jones, UNK, Jibbs, and every fool with young in their name, do this year. Bet most of em will do poorly.
LMAOOOOO
Mr. NEWMAN... great post. THAT revolution won't be televised however. LOL.
@ Paper Long
I'm a be a man and apologize to you,
I read your post wrong and came off at you the wrong way.
So you are saying that most people think in order for you to be a great rapper you have to be Concise? I understand, cause I listen to Jeezy and In my opinion i think he's a great rapper, just cause he's not rappin about politics, and "fight the power" dosent doesnt mean he cant rap.
I miss pun, biggie, and pac. HIphop has never been the same since they pass. That is why i support Nas and Jay cuz they came from that era of the best MC 2 ever bless the mic. Pun was a beast on the mic with lines like. ITS HARD 2 EXPLAIN HOW MY SQUAD CAN HARBOR THE STRAIN OF BEING THE LARGEST NAME IN RAP SINCE THE ALMIGHTY KANE,ACKNOWLEDGE THE FAME, MY COLLEGE TERRAIN WAS THE RUGGED STREETS FROM HARLEM TO QUEENS BACK TO THE BRONX WHO FATHERED THE DREAM. Pun the Bronx misses you but we will never 4get you R.I.P PUN,PAC,BIG the G.O.A.T.
May they both rest in peace. Everyone will have there own opinion on whos the best but reckless you made a point if Big was still alive would puff, puffy, diddy whatever he wants to call himself still be acting like a fool and playing part in the watered down hip hop thats being played now?
Listening to Ready to Die and Life After Death reminds all of my high school days and it does make me a bit sad that the future generation will eventually forget about him.
@ Rocky
I agree i think the Latino community will remember him more for generations to come. He was the first latin rapper to go platinum(correct me if im wrong)and his flow was just crazy.
I SWEAR YOU OLD HIP HOP FANS MAKE ME SICK SOMTIMES I WISH SOME PPL DIDNT LISTEN TO RAP 4 REAL. OK I LIKE NAS I GREW UP ON NAS, MOBB DEEP AND WU-TANG NAS IS A HIP HOP LEGEND I FULLY AGREE BUT IS THE FANS WHO PISS ME OFF LIKE WHEN NAS FIRST CAME AND PPL WERE SAYING HE COULD BE THE BEST LYRICALLY IN THE GAME DID YOU SEE THE RAKIM AND BIG DADDY KANE FANS THE PPL WHO GREW UP ON THEM BITCHING LIKE US HIP HOP FANS WHO GREW UP IN THE 90'S. NAS IS THE SHIT BUT IT AINT LIKE WHEN HE PUT OUT ILLMATIC OR STILLMATIC FOR THAT MATTER HE CLEARLY IS NOT IN HIS PRIME ANYMORE AND THATS OK THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT THE PROBLEM IS THAT HOW MANY NAS SONGS HAVE I HEARD LIKE A MILLION SO HE DOES NOT EXCITE ME ANYMORE BECAUSE I FEEL I HAVE HEARD WHAT HE HAS TO SAY ON THE MIC NOW HE HAS BEEN RAPPING FOR 16 YRS. NOW WHEN I LISTEN TO A ARTIST LIKE BANKS IM ABLE TO OPEN MY MIND TO SOMTHING NEW A NEW FLOW A NEW SOUND BECAUSE HE'S ONLY BEEN AROUND FOR A FEW YRS. WHEN I LISTEN TO HIS RYHMES I COULD TELL HE GREW UP ON NAS TO AND HE'S ABLE TO FLOW SICK IN HIS OWN WAY AS HIP HOP FANS WE HAVE TO LET THE TIMES CHANGE AND GIVE NEW BLOOD AND LIFE INTO HIP HOP. IM NOT HERE SAYING BANKS WAS BETTER THAN NAS IN HIS PRIME BUT ID RATHER LISTEN TO BANKS AT THIS POINT BECAUSE HE SOUNDS MORE HUNGRY MORE GRIMY MORE HIP HOP LYRICS ARE ON POINT LIKE NAS IN HIS DAY OF CLASSIC HITS. HIPHOP FANS NEED TO LET SHIT GO STOP HATING ON THE NEW GUYS AND LET NATURE TAKE ITS COURSE

Hip Hop wasn't dead then because, everyone's rhymes & videos weren't the same. Yeah Big talked about the money & cars, but he didn't make that the subject of all his rhymes. Biggie didn't really start that shit until he was brainwashed by Puff (Big 2nd cd). Hip Hop is dean now because it fucking 2007 and niggas is still swagga jacking Biggie and that nigga died almost 10 years ago.
Rap hasn't evolved. Niggas in the 90's wasn't rapping like niggas in the 80's. Even in the late 90's niggas wasn't rappin like niggas in the early 90's. But in 2007 niggas is still rappin like niggas in the late 90's. Thats why this shit sucks. Now that Nas & Jay-z are rapping about different shit, young niggas is hating.
Biggie became the greatest when he died. Thats why everyone picks him, he was never the best rapper, are you crazy or what.
As far as rap is concerned, Big Pun was much better, and he was a good person.
Ask around in Brooklyn what people on the streets really think of BIG, the real person. You wont find much love for him.
Now that he is dead, everyone makes him a saint, it is sickening. Listen to the albums and tell me that Biggie was a better rapper than Big Pun while trying to keep a straight face. You guys are nutz.
i think its ironic everytime they talk about the greatest of all time newyorkers mention big but not pac just because pac is from l.a if u listen to alot of biggie records he talks about cars money jewelry and clothes just like rappers today nobody was saying hiphop was dead then! wasnt
^^^^
I couldnt have said it better myself.
These NYC niggas remember whats convenient for them to remember.
Sup AZTECA? Long time no see. Well shit, its not like I've been coming through.
Anyhow. I am not sure about being the first Latino rapper to get a plague, but I do think he was the most influential- the most memorable. He was good IMO, but I say that because I am not a big Terror Squad fan. I just never got with that whole movement. But I respect my stomping grounds, the BX, and whatever comes from that soil. So props to Pun.
I think that Puff would still be making the stuff he's making now. I don't really see much of a difference in what he's doing now, from back then. He's always made the pop songs for the club. Always. Take BIG off the record and it would be what we listen to now. BIG just made it hot. Puff said, "I thought I told you that we won't stop." Lol. He's a man of his word. I actually liked the press play album.
Wow! A post that's worth something on this site. When it comes to younger generations not really knowing the figures that made rap what it is it sux. That's why it's great that Nas did the "Where are they now rmx's" Hopefully it'll inspire some to do some research and listen to the songs and albums that brought hip hop to where it is today.
10 years and they still ain't got a suspect. Who ever the trigger man is BIGGIEs blood will b on their hands. But dang y would u want to suff out BIG? He never acted hard or anything probably one of the most humble rapper of all time!!! I hope his fam get justice!
VIC
You out there in the snow, and I'm complaining about this damn 40 in the morning 75 in the afternoon weather. Let me shut the hell up then. Lol. But what you said is right. No matter who it was directed at. That's why I said that there is no sense in arguing who is better. Its all gonna be different (or the same) for the same (or different) reasons. So what's the point. However, I do see that fuckery is back at an all time high with this South vs North bullshit. Looks like a productive debate is coming to an end an hour and a half after it began. That's my cue to go do some work.
A poet, pac, may be, but as an MC he was nowhere near Big Pop or Pun.
Although, I say Nas has fallen off from making completely classic albums, I do say He is the best example of MC-Poet.
D4L and DFB will save Hip Hop if folks up North would let them!
I say we move Jermaine Dupri to the Def Jam head position, and let him show Jay Z how to handle his B.I.
See the problem is alot of rappers want to live by a rep. They either too scared to b themselves or the coporate prick got em by the balls. In order to gain real respect you must b yourself. Live by the content of your character and a good rep will fall in line. Never let other dictate who ur.
@ rocky
yeah it's like 20 degrees out here, yesterday it was like 14, and i'm from the suoth so 2 inches of snow is like 2 feet to me.
yeah this south vs. north is some bullshit, the south is just poping out artist left and right so the people in the south can have someone who relates to them, the North has their rappers they relate to, and the west does also.
I wonder if niggaz will start hating when rappers start comming out of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, @ South Dakota?

Exactly which make BIG just a rapper nothing more nothin less
Pac was a real MC that's way they teach his classes in schools like Harvard!
It's funny to me because what BIG was talkng about (money, sex, drugs, and killing) is the exact thing that is killing this thing called hip hop. So how could he be the greatest!?
Flow dosen't equal SUBSTANCE!!!
PLUS BIG WAS ONLY DOING IT FOR THE MONEY AND THE BLING BLING!
DONT FIGHT THE FACTS!

PAC IS AN IMMORTAL UNTIL THE END OF TIME
JUST GO TAKE ONE OF HIS COLLEGE CLASSES http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14802077/ AND FIND OUT WHO IS THE REAL GOAT OF THIS HIP HOP THANG.
JEZZY TRAP OR DIE?
BIGGIE 10 Crack Commandments?
What are we really teaching the youth?
LOL. They were VIC. Nelly fucked a lot of heads up in the beginning...
"I'm going down down baby/ your street in a range rover"
LMAO. I thought it was clever as hell. I am a fan of music period. I don't care who is from where. But I know bullshit when I hear it. For example: Jeezy
1. My Hood- Bullshit
2. Dreamin ft. Keyshia Cole- Fire
But its all opinion.
I'm okay with someone not agreeing with my views, because they are MY VIEWS. I'm not gonna argue with anyone unless they're coming at me like I'm in need of schooling. Every now and then I'll post up here if there is a good topic- hence the reason I am here today. But niggas wanna turn it into something else. That's why shit is the way it is now. This blog is like a reflection of the nonsense that goes on in the streets. I'm not about to be a part of it, you dig?
LOL PZ. Awww shit...
(Someone's gonna post about it. I give it a few minutes. Then I'm out before the shit starts slinging.)
##################################
I got answers to all your guestions.
Will Brooklyn still be on top? But of course. Big and jay would a did the Commission, Big would made sure Junior Mafia would have stayed in tact. Diddy might not have been in the picture if Big was still alive, he would have started his own label.
Now for Terror Squad, I don't think they would ahve did much better to me. Pun might have parted ways with Joe once he seen how Joe was treating his peoples.
And that's just my opinion!
@ rocky
yeah i'm a big time Jeezy fan, but if you dont like him, that's your opinion. i didnt like that My hood sont either though, i usually skip that one when i play that CD, but he has some nice songs on there, that's why i like him, every rapper cant make a flawless album like Aqumeni.
yeah when these rappers start comming out of Alaska and Hawaii, i wonder what niggaz gonna be saying.
As far as rap is concerned, Big Pun was much better, and he was a good person.
Ask around in Brooklyn what people on the streets really think of BIG, the real person. You wont find much love for him.

Did this Herb really say Brooklyn don't LOVE B.I.G??? I got nothing but respect for PUN he was fire , but he didn't bring anything new to the game. I here alot of people saying that "yeah B.I.G spit commercial just like everyone else now and New York says Hip Hop is dead." My man who did what B.I.G did before him??? Who made it a prerequisite to spit a little faster on one track of your album? B.I.G was an Original, Pac ( not my favorite rapper to be honest ) was an Original. Nas built his own niche as well. Tell me Who puts their words together the BIG HOMIE JAY-Z?? Snoop is an Original. Outkast are Originals. Not to take anything from Pun because he IS the nicest Latino to do it (although CUBAN LINK was sick) shit he is one of the sickest period but if you know HIP HOP he has just about the same delivery as Kool G Rap. All that i am saying is Hate New York, Cali , or ATL (East, West, South respectively) but all your favorite rappers got there style from B.I.G , Jay, Snoop , Nas, or Outkast and NO one has decided to do there own thing since these brothers started doing it. SO in a sense HIP HOP is dead because nothing new has been born to carry on tradition (Props to LUPE FIASCO for making the effort keep it coming you'll do it bro) OH and Brooklyn eats sleeps and Breathes Biggie you must not be in Brooklyn to often. I have an Idea smash on em go to the Stuy and say that.

I don't want to hear no rapper out of Alaska, because all they are going to talk about it SNOW and ICE (pun intended)
Legacy's stand on their own. If you're having to coach someone on who they think is great, then they really not that great.
Ya'll need to quit, and just let it do what it do.
Continue to support their music, and if the youth catch on...let it happen.
BIG doesn't need you to explain to the youth that his music is good music.
Like I said...a legacy will stand on it's on.
@ Tool
I hear u, i get where u comin from.
It's just in my opinion one of the many aspects that separates B.I.G. from your average rapper is his shit had concequences.
What's Beef & The warning - The paronior that comes with that lifestyle
"Beef is when your moms ain't safe up in the street"
Me and Bitch - "They had 2 kill the closest one to me"
And everytime i hear suicidal thoughts, You're nobody till somdody kills you and somebody's gotta die, i still get the chills!
He was the Alfred Hitchcoch of rap for a reason.
P.S Victor Newman i hear you 2. Jeezy's 1st LP was a classic, they jus ain't gonna admit it for another 10 years
As far as rap is concerned, Big Pun was much better, and he was a good person.
Posted by: Smash'em at February 7, 2007 9:54 AM
Yo Smash'em you got to be smokin on some really good ooohhh wwweeeeeeeeee cause that ish you said about Big and Brooklyn not feelin him till he died is a straight up lie or you were not allowed a outside back then. I remember one day when Big just had out Party and Bullshit, now that was his first joint, and Coca-Cola had a concert in Prospect Park and the whole hood was there and nobody really knew about Big yet but why after that everybody talkin about the Big dark skin dude from the Stuy. And if they played his songs in any club while he was alive there was some serious partying going down and someone was going to get robbed. So I can't understand what you saying nobody in Brooklyn messed with Big till he was dead.
@Rocky
Yeah...true he always did the club joints and i'll admit i shook my ass to a couple of them joints lol! I guess i feel that he made ALOT of money off of Bigs death but i dont know thats just my 2 cents.
I was never that much of a TS fan myself but I was feeling PUN and still do just last weekend i was over my brothers crib and he had some Capital Punishment on. It just makes you wonder what would of happened if he were still alive.
And check this out. Death is an inevitable part of anything bound by the physical. Hip Hop is dying..in it's current state, it's slowing fading out.
The takeover has begun. It has been misused for too long. God is taking Hip Hop back, and watch what I tell you...2007 is the year, Christian Hip Hop will not be denied after this year.
My homeboy Excelsius said it best. Hip Hop is in it's final evolution. It has gotten as high as it can get. The only thing higher than the current state of hip hop, is the Most High. Jesus Christ. So for it to go there, we taken it back.
This ain't a game, it's spiritual warfare. Tool On Deck is right on point.
And yeah, that D4L and DFB comment was a joke. But it symbolizes the state of hip hop right now. And that is not at all any kind of slight against them groups, it is more or less me throwin a mirror up in your faces and showing you how silly "hip hop discussions" have become when people sit and point fingers at others and say "they killed it", or "this ain't hip hop" and all that.
Ain't nobody worried about how grandpa used to walk 10 miles to get to work in the snow, I'm worryin about how I'm gonna get this ice off my windshield and how fast this heater is gonna warm me up once I'm on my way.
Think about that.
And then realize, there is only one constant throughout all eternity...and that is the Love of Jesus Christ. All glory to God!
Christ Bless!
PZ
Pac is from New york so what are you talking about. Pac is not as lyrical as Big. Pac was great but he is not the greatest that belongs to the Big Poppa from Bed-Stuy.Big was the illest.
these younger kids are mad wack im 28 and when i was lets say 14 i still knew who run dmc was and shhit like dat these fuking teen agers and people under 25 or just mad wack every 8 years rap allways gets better but these kids are listening to commical music and all these gay dance girl songs, thats wack.and you se those rock n roll or skater kids their like 16 years old dressing like its 1970 with hair mullets and those old ass gear.sometimes when i go out i feel like its the 70s wtff???? lets make this clear you will never be apart of the 70s and you will never rember the 80s its like their trying to make now the 70s and say they lived threw it too when they diddent.their trying to take props from people who dress like that and say it was their style that they made witch isent true.now if somebody older dresses like dat it doesnt bother me cause thats part of their pass.we made those styles possible now yall..and im not even old school im 28 old school is like 35 or older im kinda in the middel.rap is for 25 and older for the simple fact most rappers that are out are 25 and older we need to get these wack ass little kida and take them and put them on a island and keep them their for ever for killing hip hop. cause its their fault for buying all them wack ass albums.pun died 7 years ago you telling me you dont rember him??? even if you was 10?? wtff.yo im out peace to everyone 25 and up .im from a era where things ment something im not even stuck in the 90s its just these kids fucked up hip hop they fucked it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!what is this the take over of the nerds???where are the cool people at??
...AFTER READING SOME OF THESE POSTS I HAD TO MAKE A COMMENT....FIRST OF ALL U CANT COMPARE B.I.G TO 2PAC THEY ARE NOT THE SAME TYPE OF RAPPERS. 2PAC HAD THE MOST IMPACT EVER IN RAP HISTORY THIS GUY IS A MARTYR. IN 20 YRS PEOPLE WILL STILL BE TALKING ABOUT HIM. IN ALL DUE RESPECT TO MLK 2PAC WAS OUR MLK, OUR MALCOM X. HE COULD INSPIRE U WITH HIS WORDS ON WHAT IS HAPPENING IN LIFE. B.I.G ON THE OTHER HAND WAS A SKILLFUL MC AND U CANNOT DENY THE FACT THAT HES THE DEFINITION OF AN MC. HE GOT FLOW, STORYTELLING, CRAZY WORDPLAY, CHARISMA, PUNCHLINES FOR DAYS. IF GOD CREATED SOME1 TO BE AN MC IT WUOLD BE B.I.G. THERE WERE BOT GREAT AT WHAT THEY DO. SO TO SAY 1 IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER IS POINTLESS CUZ BI.G. COULDNT DO WHAT PAC DID VICA VERSA.

I think when BIG died, it was like "all eyes on Puff." Thats why I give it to that man, he really worked hard to keep shit going. Of course BIG was a big contribution the the overall appeal of BadBoy. So losing him was major. You know? I think he did a better job handling BIG's death and music than Suge did Pac's.
(Yeah, you shook your ass, I shook my ass, the whole New York shook our asses... lol. My ish was the Lox's "If You Think I'm Jiggy." That and "More Money More Problems." Shit was liver than any FatMan Scoop joint. Lol.

If you were in control, what would the blog be about?
This is what we call "constructive criticism". Everybody contribute something.
Mine would be about the Hip Hop Church in Harlem at 1472 Broadway (corner of 42nd Street) (New York, NY). Services led by one of the great founding fathers of Hip Hop KURTIS BLOW. He will provide the SERMON with a live DJ and the choir lift their voices in rhyme, song and praise with a Hip Hop twist. These services are anything but the norm. The congregation sings while visitors participate, stomp their feet and clap their hands to the uplifting gospel movement. It's a passionate experience that will energize and uplift you.

BIG was a superior lyricist to Pac, anybody that knows rap music knows that. but Pac took it beyond rap music and became a spokes person for people like him.
He became bigger than just the music, that's why he's such an icon now, even in the media.good or bad, when 50 year old whitemen think of hiphop, the first thing that comes to their head is a pick of Pac with a red bandana on spittin at the camera, and the pictures of a shot up BMW in vegas. That's why Pac was more important in Hiphop, even though he wasn't the better rapper than Biggie.
I can't really speak too much on Pun cause i don't know him much.
Lastly, my first FUCK YOU SIR/MA'AM of the year goes to:

you need to take that pic of biggie with that crown and put it on big puns head cause pun was a nycer mc.all biggie rap about was money hoes and cars.biggie was ok if you wanted to dance or learn how to bag up coke, but the true rapper was pun and as for 2pac 2pac was a fake thug for the simple fact he dident start acting tuff still sguge knight came in the picture, yea pac grew up poor but being poor doesnt make you a gangsta.

we all remember BIG, but do you think Puff forgot about BIG, I mean he's putting these albums out in his name but he's getting a cut from that, he uses those Biggie songs to have something to fall back on when shit aint looking good over at Bad Boy.

@Disrespect here in NYC it depends on the area. The person with the little icee cart whos ringing the little bell could be Mexican,Dominican or Puerto Rican.
R.I.P. Pun & Biggie, Mainstream Hip-Hop hasn't been the same without them, now a days people think 50 & Gay-Unit are hip-hop, where the hip-hop community & the american public knows there not.
@noria
Im stackin chips like prengals, Real tawk. LOL! got bread and the kids wonder!
@Vic Newman & Dis
I don't think Puff 4got about Diddy...Trust me he's made enough he doesn't really need anything to fall back on...he has commericals & MTV to keep him going if nothing else...It's not his fault Biggie died...he's still alive and has to make a living...so Dis, y is Big his SUPPOSE 2 be homey???
@tah
so how did u do on yo project
ODB could never beat Big in a freestyle, ODB wasn't that lyrical to do that and yes I liked ODB's drunken style.

Yeah but they got there own lil cart with the dixie cups from the bathroom.
REAL TALK THOUGH-
Ever since I offered to arrange a meeting between htownmike and my strong black Christian brother Gifted up in Houston, I have not seen the dude since.
And ever since I offered to hook that dude "Evil Jesus" up with my strong black Christian brother Oldhead in Memphis, he ain't been on either.
See, these truths below explain why they do not want this meetings to happen. It is as obvious as night and day.
Here is the promise in regards to those Saints I'm tryin to arrange for them to meet (note, "Gentiles" is the modern day equivalent to anyone living "in the world"):
Acts 26
17I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'
Here is a promise from God regarding what He offers if they receive:
Isaiah 42:16
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
This verse explains why they are resistent to being in the company of the believer I'm trying to arrange the meeting with:
John 3:19
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Here is another promise regarding following Jesus:
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
This one speaks for itself:
1 John 2:9
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.
In other words, in the words of my homey "Tool On Deck"..."get the hate out ya heart".
TRUTH:
"1 Timothy 1:15Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen."
Go read part of my testimony in my blog on myspace. Folks said it's like an episode of "24". That's God for ya!
GET AT ME!

Ya'll know how I do!

I hear you...You know what has always pissed me off the most after B.I.G & Pun death? The exploitation of them like Puff making crappy ass albums I'm sure B.I.G wouldn't agree with if he still was living and that clip on Youtube showing Pun beating his wife.
puerto ricans are difrent than mexicans.first of all. oh yea buy the way lets look in the history books and watch your great great grand parent hanging on tress haa.damn my hair is nice your hair is ugly. you look like a monkey i look like a god, hispanic people are the best lovers. you get what you give.

=TAH=
@b- Stuy
they where building bridges. They where never known for there hood persona and biggie was and now he aint so that fucked him up, no run dmc when they did that song it didnt change their persona at all.
To really appreciate BIG buy B.I.G RAP PHENOMENON by DIRTY HARRY.
Got a lot to say on this topic so lets get it started. First of all to all the haters sayin that every1 under 25 listens to mainstream watered down commercial garbage and can't appreciate the golden era hip hop...I'm 16 and I'm a huge fan of Pun, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Organized Kunfusion, etc. 2ndly to the guy that said BIG brought something new to the table while Pun didn't. I'm a fan of Big but exactly what did he do that hadn't been done? Raekwon and Kool G rap were doing the "don/kingpin/mafioso" rap before him. His flow and rhyme scheme were nothing out of the ordinary, actually it wasn't even up to par when u think about guys like Rakim and Kool G rap using multiz, rhyme in rhymes, etc. Pun may have not brought anything new but please don't try making an argument for Biggie. In my personal opinion Pun was the greatest. He could do it all and his debut proved that, he had a track for everyone on that album whether ur into conscious, story telling, or jus straight hardcore lyricism. Big could do the same but I jus felt Pun's flow was always on point n razor sharp. As for pac...I'm not a fan, I personally feel him and Jay-z are 2 of the most overrated Mc's ever but I won't get too much into that. But to sum all of this up, I don't think age is a factor when discussing rap because there's 20-30 year old mean who have no idea who Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Pharoahe Monch, Slick Rick etc. Are it really depends how much an individual is into hip hop cuz I garuntee u I can skool 90% of 20-25 year olds who claim to be hip hop fans. Real talk.

Yes they were the best of friends, however Puff was never the lyricist, Big was, when he died, YES, the lyrics Big contributed left Puff's music, but I don't think Puff should go climb under a rock. He still made music that made people want to dance and have fun; every song isn't about the toughest rhymes...some people need other shit to listen to and Puff contributes to that part of the market...I don't think none of us have the right to say Puff don't give a fuck about Big's music, or the way it impacts the kids b/c we don't know what that man does or talks about behind closed doors...You need 2 ask yourself, "what would u do different?" if you were Puff.
You didn't see 80's rapper mad at 90's rapper cuz for one they built off what their predecessors did and brought lyrical skills to a higher level. Fastforward to the 00's skills have gone to shit. What happened to storytelling Pac and the 3 Bigs had storytelling skills no matter what the subject was. These "young" dudes don't know how to balance the streets, radio, and clubs anymore, switch from flavorful to conscious, change gears in the middle of a flow and wordplay if you need to ask what that is I made my point.
puerto rico is apart of the usa, africa isent.look it up.i think mexicans should leave too.

FFFFLLLLLLEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! PZ IS SPEAKIN TRUTH!!
HA!
Naw, it ain't like that. I ain't on here to bombard, I'm just showing evidence of things the truth states. Everyone that was on here seen the prior blogs where I was havin those discussions, so I'm letting them know what happened. NOTHING. They ain't wanna meet up.
So..I'm showing where the truth speaks on the actions (or lack of) demonstrated in front of them. That's it. I'm done with it...I had to put it out there.
And you know I'ma throw truth out there at least once a day on this blog. Don't let it get ya uncomfortable and what not. I don't understand how that could be..if it wasn't touchin on somethin in ya heart.
Anyway, Christ Bless you Rocky. I ain't taken it there, just exposin folks, that's it.

DIS,
Love ya and all, but your 12:15 post is messy. Puff ain't ask the stock to go up. He just kept doing him, and now that BIG is not here, we're able to see just what "him" is. He hasn't changed a thing from then to now. His lyrics were good b/c BIG helped him. So they appear dumbed down. Anyhow. I'm out. My fingers hurt- haven't typed this much in a minute.

Lol. Its all 7/11 and drive thru walmarts now. LOL.
Anyhpw. Bye peeps. My hands are tired.
@ Slim,
I know Puff is Ballin' but i'm saying when bad boy aint putting up good numbers on thier records he'll drop you with some recycled biggie verses( I'm a big fan of Ball & MJG, but i cant deal with this bad boy shit they are doing). I mean if Biggie was alive do you think he would be down with all this commercial shit puff was doing (Making the band).
NO disrespect Pun was crazy nice, but son neva switched up his flow, he had one style which was bitten from Kool G Rap STILL he was nicer than 96 % of the rap game. Again No disrespect he murder " you ain't a killa" one of my top ten joints EVER!!!
DIS
LOL!! THATS CRAZY! I FAILED MY PERMIT LIKE 3 TIMES...I FINALLY GET 2 GO AND TAKE IT AGAIN LOL!!

they where building bridges. They where never known for there hood persona and biggie was and now he aint so that fucked him up, no run dmc when they did that song it didnt change their persona at all.
Posted by: Disrespect at February 7, 2007 12:18 PM
Okay I see what you are saying but Big did that cause of Puffy at that time, he didn't have no say on what was going on. Puff put him in that Versace. Big would have stayed on that Lumber Jack and Army gear ish if it was up to him. And to me that's what Puffy did bridge the gap so everbody can cake up.
here it is pun was lyrically sicker than big but you gotta give big props that mofo didnt even write shi** down just think if he took his time to write sh** down may have come off even sicker big and pun were more lyrcal than pac but pac had something where pound for pound add up everything and nobody was fuggin with pac think im bullsh***? compare when all passed away look at the difference mofos still wanna believe pac alive everyone has accepted big and puns passings mofos dont wanna let pac go pac is loved all over the world 3rd world countries etc etc the difference speaks for itself PEACE TO ONLY AND ALL THE REAL!!!!!!!!

TRASH. DEFINETLY not "8Ball and MJG" we came to love.

what vic said is what im sayin and i did say in my opinion. theres so much more to it then what u sayin, TO ME! now puff could have found new talent except he kept usin his name till he got rich and still uses it everytime his stock falls on the music tip, and he drops this bullshit remixin him with peeps big would have never did a song wit, i bet he would let d4l get a track for enought money. I would have just found new talent, which requires work and thats all he should have done was hustled his ass off and found new talent. but its coo thats just me.

But we all know there isn't anything left for him to sample, but he keeps doing it anyway. But if he comes out with one more album dissing my man's BIG legacy, there will be "HELL UP IN HARLEM" cause me and the goons are gonna go find this metrosexual dude and beat the crap out of him and his bodyguards.
yeah he fucked 8 ball and mjg's careers up with this pop shit. he turns errone pop. everybody wants to leave his label.

How come everybody hatin on Puff using BIGs old verses for new songs, but nobody complains about Pacs own momma allowing folks Pac wouldn't even record with get on his. He's sold more records dead than alive.

I feel u as far as 8Ball & MJG, but they grown as hell, that's what those men chose...
As far as Big agreeing with "Making The Band" and shit like that. Yes I do think he would've been down for it. Unfortunately it's the new thing and you'd be surprised at the numbers & guap they are pulling in...however, I don't know BIG personally and neither do u guys so you can't assume, just like you wouldn't have assumed 8Ball & MJG would take the route they took...a new day brings on a new mind.
Quit being so hard on people u really don't know b/c if it were you I'm sure your whole mindset would change quick.

B.I.G was the best, both lyrically and as far as flow is concerned.
Pac was the best commercial wise. These are facts.
Puff is not doing anything wrong. I think it's nice to keep Big's name out there and I imagine that Diddy only drops these albums because cats are clamoring to get on with BIG. I used to think Diddy ruined hip hop until he came here and showed he was a stand up guy that makes hits. I can't hate on his accomplishments anymore.

You right, and unfortunately...I think I have to cosign with something 50 Cent said on that interview.
"People who say money didn't change them just didn't make enough."
Sad...but true.
Pac best to ever do it hands down.
"All Eyes on Me" the best solo album of all time.
Pac was so far ahead of Biggie it's crazy. You can see that just by looking at Pac's work ethic, Biggie was lazy and that is apparent in his lack of albums and material that he put out.

That Deep Cover mix with Pun/Fat Joe is bananas. Pun was snapping and so was Joe. I don't think either of them were better than Nas or Rakim lyrically.

I'm just asking your opinon Slim, b/c i'm tired of talking about who's better between Big and Pac.
I never like puff as an artist, but i respect him for baking that money, but as a fan of what him and Big did, and i cant stand this shit that's going on now. i felt that he was good enough to bring in some more talent that was close to what Biggie brought to the table. but since Biggie died, musically he's been puttting out garbage. yeah Ball and G are grown men, and they proably liked the deal puff offered them.
@ N-Site, what's up shawty
Nah i dont think i'm going to get that new album, I'll have to hear some banging tracks from it b4 i get that one. i need some of that On the outside looking in, or sitting on top of the world shit.
@ PZ,
on them pac joints where they are using his old stuff, it's some stuff people never heard on them tracks, but puff is using the same shit big did on his albums.
B- Stuy Long
You know what a lot of people would argue that Biggie didn't have enough material to be considered a legend. But when you think of people like Jimi Hendrix, Minnie Ripperton and a few others who released just one or two albums and are considered to be legends. The quantity of the material doesn't matter the quality.
Yes they were cause BIG had those fresh lyrics for everybody, then after he died Puffy ain't do nothing but put new beats to old lyrics. Now the lyrics was hard but the beats didn't do anything for them.

The whole "who is better" is just OLD at this point...them niggas been dead for ten years plus now, stop it...just appreciate their music for what it is and keep it moving...in my opinion neither one of the is the best to ever do it...I'm riding for either Brad Jordan (Scarface) or Oshea Jackson (Ice Cube) but thats just my opinion...just like everyone else has a different opinion...but one thing you can't deny is the impact that both ARTISTS had on music.
I also feel that Big was "hip hop" and Pac was "a rapper" Solo I don't really think Pac made hip hop music...now that shit he did with Digital Underground was hip hop, but solo? Naw, Pac was a rapper...there is a big difference...

Biggie's, Ready to Die and Life after Death are the best hip-hop albums, out of Pac and Pun.
As far as them all being dead, that's a lie.
Pac is still alive. That nikka be puttin out albums every year with new lyrics, talkin bout, they found some more lost tapes of Pac. Fuck outta here.
You mean to tell me Pac made 30 yrs of music.
If that's the case, when did Pac have the time to make movies, tv shows, promote albums, go to court, go to jail, use the bathroom, sleep and vacation???
Pac faked his own death for a few reasons: 1. So his record sales would be higher.. 2. So he wouldn't go back to Jail on that rape case.. 3. So he doesn't have to pay child support.. 4. So he can kill Biggie and get away with it.

but do you remember when MTV, was MTV, and not Laguna beach, and Sweet (spoiled rich bastards) sixteen... and BET had shows and not recycled black showes, i.e. Martin, Waynes Bros, Jamie Fox. TV One does the same thing, but Who's got Jokes is my shit. I hate Comcast too, i dont even have T.V. guide channel (too cheap for Digital), i have to look on the Internet to see what's on.

But am I the ONLY one who's blood begins to boil every time you read something about Biggie being the greatest of all time?
Nigga was nice, but he never was - and never will be - 2Pac. Biggie never had HALF the substance that Pac had. Pac rapped about single mothers, politics, children and still kept it funky.

What's good RapIsAlive...I agree with that post...I don't think Big had enough material for us to determine whether or not he is/was the G.O.A.T....but it doesn't take anything away from him being a hip hop Legend...
Posted by: RapIsAlive at February 7, 2007 1:32 PM
okay your right Pac did talk about those things, but with BIG he talked about what he knew and what he knew was the street life, and you can't deny that BIG made dudes step there game up when he was around!
@N-Site..
What's poppin? Oh without a doubt, he's a legend. I was just listening to Ready to Die last night. I just like unbias reviews. Out of Jay-Z, Biggie, Nas... I don't think anyone made more "conscious" lyrics than Pac. Dude was a flashy thug, that was intelligent and respectful of women.
Having said that, I fucks with Biggie all day.
IM OUT THIS...MUCH LOVE 2 THE REAL1S AND THE USUAL SUSPECTS!
=TAH=
big never spit a wack 8 or 16.thats why he is considered the greatest.every bar he spit was poison.i love pac but everytime him and big got on a track or on stage big's versus just outshined pac's.the track with heavy d and pac,big killed.the freestyle with pac big and kane, big killed.it is what it is.pac loved,i repeat loved party and bullshit.pac just got mixed up with jack and them grimey niggas and lost focus.got to comfortable walking around the city with all that ice.thought shit was sweet, and got got.big thought shit was sweet in la.riding around sitting next to a window, and got got.

Oh shit I didn't know that!
@B- Stuy Long,
I agree. Like I said, I listen to BIG. Let me ask you this though? You said that Biggie rapped about what he knew right? Well when Jay raps now, they say he's too commercial and too Wall Street, and they can't accept that. Dude is worth about 300 mil. Why can't people accept him rapping about what he lives now? Why can't people accept Texas rapping about candy paint and syrup? It's the life they know...
It's a double standard.

I feel you on that and I always say, jay ain't in Marcy P.J.'s no more so what is he suppose to rap about, cause if he was to go back to Reasonable Doubt or any one of those c.d.'s before he came up, then he would be lyin to himself and the people, and i feel Jay is a real dude so he won't compromise himself like that. Another thing people who don't grow can't accept the next man that does.
yeah La Finesse i knew she had some black in her.i just didnt know she was Minnie Ripperton's daughter.her father is jewish.they mixed together very well if i might ad.

Let's get straight to the point. Which was better, 2Pacalpyse Now, or Ready to Die? In NY - Ready to Die. Most of the rest of the country? 2Pacalypse Now. Which is better Life After Death, or All Eyez on Me? You know damn well which was better. All Eyez on Me was the most influential rap cd in the last 15 years.
And guess what? That's where the comparison ends. It's easy as hell to spit fire every time when you only have 2 cds dude. Don't be so NY biased. We didn't even make it to Me Against the World, or Makaveli.

Girl, you ain't lyin! They need to stop with them breaks! The first season was the best, when they was working on gettin out. But straight up, I"m not missing an episode. The suspense has my wife's stomach hurtin every week!
I forgot one show too. I can't never catch the new ones, and only catch it ever now and then...but everytime I do, I tell myself.."this is one of my new favorite shows".
THE BERNIE MAC SHOW!
As a matter of fact, I'm bout to look it up online and send myself an email at home to remember to DVR some episodes. EVERYTIME I've ever watched that, I've laughed real hard.
"Why can't people accept Texas rapping about candy paint and syrup? It's the life they know..."
hey RapIsAlive im buying that ugk cd when it drops.then again what true hip hop fan isnt?

I feel the same too. I mean how many Jamie Foxx and Wayans Bros can one person stand?
You know the funniest shit in the world was Uncut videos and the Bobby Jones gospel show coming on afterwards. You can just picture a guy masturbating to Uncut videos and feeling mad guilty and shit when the Bobby Jones gospel show come on!

I gotta agree with all your points except where you said "2Pacalypse Now" was better than "Ready to Die". Regardless of all the other points you said, 2Pacalypse Now is not a "play all the way through" like Ready to Die, All Eyes on Me, Me Against the World, Makaveli.
It was actually kinda wack to me since we tellin the truth. There were a couple good joints on there, but I don't think that CD ever got more than one or two straight play thrus.
i hear you rap is alive.but 2Pacalypse Now really wants that great of a cd.i take the 7 day theory over all eyes on me all day.the 7 day theory is pacs greatest work.you can feel him on ever got damn track.
I'm about to go destroy a samich somewhere. Be back though...ya'll keep it clean and don't be tellin no lies up in here.
You know I'ma speak on em when I come back.
HA!
Pac destroyed BIG on hit em up. I think Pac is better, look what he has done for hip hop, who he has influenced.Nas and Jay are todays best rappers.I dont really fuck wit Piggie, doesnt appeal to me.Pac had more passion when he spit.but in MY OPINION, Nas is the GOAT.
I don't even watch it then...BET has sold out and I refuse to support that shit...only thing I watch on BET is In Living Color at midnight...thats it...

That's a very valid point. Now let's put it in this perspective.
Young Black Male
Trapped
Souljah's Story (started all rappers calling themselves soilders)
Violent (rebel against the cops)
Brenda's Got a Baby
Part Time Motha (bad mothers in the ghetto)
That subject matter sound famaliar? That's the reason people always argue Nas is better than Jay - he talks about more real topics. Ready to Die was dope, guns, and pussy dude.
So again, when do be begin to be consistant?
Posted by: cali0404 at February 7, 2007 1:59 PM
Big didn't really wanna go at Pac like that, cause he respected Pac. If he would have really went at Pac and said his name and all that it would have made Pac think why did I start with this lyrical beast. Who Shot Ya was just a taste of what BIG had waitin for him. you see Pac had to have his Outlaws help him out. Big did Who Shot Ya himself.
Well when Jay raps now, they say he's too commercial and too Wall Street, and they can't accept that. Dude is worth about 300 mil. Why can't people accept him rapping about what he lives now? Why can't people accept Texas rapping about candy paint and syrup? It's the life they know...

What sells real hip hop music is the black man's struggle. Rapping about Bentley's and having $300mil in the account sounds superficial and at the end of the day who gives a fuck? Thats why a lot of people respect Nas he got money but he has a lot of shit to rap about than his bank account.

My 16-year-old brother wants to write BET to have Uncut put back on the air! I never known that fool to write one sentence!!!
R.I.P. Pun, One Of Da Illest To Do It.
and though he aint from NY, R.I.P. in advance for J.Dilla too and if niggaz aint familliar he been craftin tracks for De La Soul, ATCQ, Ghostface as well as a whole stable of underground and well knowns from the East Coast and more importantly lovers of the craft in general.
nice blog and real talk, most who love the culture do it for da preservation of da artform and not financially. of course there is no doubt any logical person wants to be compensated for their works, but the lack of making heartfelt music died a nice while ago along with talent output being replaced with becomming a walkin billboard in order to measure success.

There a lot of females who cant get into what some people who consider real hip hop, just for the simple fact that it doesnt move them, the reason why groups like D4L and DFB is selling b/c the kids and the ladies like it, Biggie did songs the ladies liked, so did Pac, and Jay-z is too. but nas is droping these singles that's trying to get these hip hop heads their fix ( nothing is wrong with that) but when you riding in the car, at the club, or chilling at the crib you want to play something the females are into. a lot of females arent hip hop heads, they just like what they like. just like game said "if it's gonna get me the pussy, i'm a play that shit".

I was a fan ever since that Illmatic. I seen a lot of artists that would play follow the leader and do what ever sells. But I never known Nas to do that.

out of all the women i know, there are only a few that i know that listen to the groups you mention, but there are some. but more of them like the D4L's, DFB's, Young Jeezy's, Lil Waynes. I used to listen to a little R & B, when it was on the radio or a female i was with was playing it, but i then learned that when i have a lady over the crib it's a good idea to have that Tyrese, Usher, Maxwell, or something on deck. now i've gotten used to listening to it and i will go cop a R & B CD for the wife, that new Monica, and Pretty Ricky is going hard right now.

@La Finesse
There you go. I'll break it down a little further for you:
It Was Written... After Illmatic didn't sell like he wanted, Nas hired Steve Stoute as his manager. Stoute came up with the whole "Nas Escobar" persona, and they shot the video for Street Dreams like he was Casino or something.
I Am... - In 1998, Puff was damn near considered the Hip-Hop Anti Christ. However, for some pop appeal Nas did "Hate Me Now. Also, Nas began sneak dissing Jay-Z. The song "We Will Survive" is the first known shot between the Jay/Nas feud.
Nastradomus - Nas went even further pop, making songs like "You Owe Me", and Big Girl. This was Nas's flashiest album. Also, he even further dissed the Roc, making subliminal shots at Memphis Bleek.
Stillmatic - A Great album, but most of the buzz was garnered from "Ether". He gained a lot of fans off of beef, but the album was a classic anyways.
God's Son - Probably his best album. No beef. No gimmicks. No Pop. No Steve Stoute influence. Nas's mother had died, so he refocused himself in his music.
Street's Disciple - The south was on at the time, so Nas drops the video Thieves Theme wearing a gold grill. The video got him absolutely NO BUZZ, so he put the album on hold for a minute. Nas then holds a concert in the park, and disses 50 Cent while on stage (that's how the beef started, although they had personal issues already). Before the album drops, he leaks the song Coon's Picnic, dissing Kobe and Cuba for messing with white women, and spitting a bunch of fake facts. Does he diss Charles Barkley? NO, cause Barkley would probably kick his ass. Jay Anthony Brown? No, because he'd roast him on Tom Joyner's Morning Show. Ice T? HELL NO. Nas picks the easiest targets he could find, and talks about those who wouldn't fight back.
Dude is nice, and most of his albums are tight. But make no mistake about it, dude says and does whatever to sell his projects. The name Hip Hop Is Dead created so much buzz for his last album I'm surprised he didn't go gold the first week.
Girl that is so true. This will include all my brothers and ex-boyfriends Lol

Too funny.
A woman was in a coma, she had been in it for months.
Nurses were in her room giving her a sponge bath. One of them was washing her private area and noticed that there was a slight response on the monitor when she touched her. They tried it again and sure enough there was a small, recognizable movement.
They went to her husband and explained what happened, telling him, "As crazy as this sounds, maybe a little oral sex will do the trick and bring her out of the coma."
The husband was skeptical, but they assured that they'd close the curtains for privacy. The husband finally agreed and went into his wife's room.
After a few minutes the woman's monitor flat lined, no pulse, no heart rate at all. The nurses run back into the room.
"What happened!?" they cried.
The husband said, "I'm not sure. Maybe she choked".
Then we'll never have 2 claim it, LOL...at least 4 another 40 years:-)

I'm tired of people making the same old arguments for Pac...at first it was funny but now its sad. Yeah he recorded a shit load of songs before his death but does that mean he had a sick flow? Yeah people still wonder if he's alive or not and he has millions of fans all around the world but how does that make him the greatest hip hop LYRICIST of all time? Frankly I feel that he's not even a top 20 rapper cuz there are so many dudes that can spit better than him whether its conscious rap or hardcore thug shit. HE WASN'T THAT NICE! Public Enemy was dropping conscious afro-centric shit was before him and he's the most influential rapper ever? Am I the only 1 who knows Rakim?

if you watched the super bowl before it started they had interviews with some of the players one player happend to be from nigeria as he was talking about how nigeria is poor but the nigeria goverment witch happends to be all black are very rich and make deals with trade companys and how their goverment has billions of dollars and they also shows clips from their and he said that the goverment wont help give money or food to the people that live their witch also are all black he also says how they live in these little sheds with flys everywere and crap every where.and how the goverment witch is all black their wont help them. so its not only white goverments that treat blacks bad.blacks all ways blame white people for all your problems, your mad at the white man for calling you nigger and killing you a long time ago but in 2007 it seems thats what your doing to your selfs. i feel sorry for the older blacks that where in slaves or the ones that are 60 years old and over that had hard times but i dont feel sorry for younger blacks for the simple fact you dident go threw slavery you can get a job and be free just as any other colar look at boxing, football, music,dr.,lawyers, clothing companys ,new casters, judges, mayors, their are blacks that have those jobs so dont say you cant get a job cause your black and if you live in the hood all they have is indian stores their where they sell food, whites dont own those stores so if you cant get a job dont blame it all on the white man..
" i feel sorry for the older blacks that where in slaves or the ones that are 60 years old and over that had hard times but i dont feel sorry for younger blacks"

I had to check back in for a minute. Thats cool as hell. It's nice meeting you.
I can't relate to Pac? What is there to relate to? I never said anything regarding subject matter strictly skillz. And yeah if u do a worldwide pole Pac would be on top but I'm also sure 50 would be in the top 5 so what does that prove mah dude? Nothin. Most niggas jus say pac was nice because the dude next to him n his boys said that n they said it for the same reason, the fact of the matter is every1's affraid to against the grain.
Arguing about whose better between Pac and Biggie is just pointless. For 1 they had different styles then each other. Other then the woman and gangster element, both of their subject matter wasn't exactly the same either. So just respect both artists, they were both great in their own ways.
Pun could've been 1 of the best emcees of all time, his wordplay and flow was incredible. But sadly his life was taken at a young age.
R.I.P. Pun
Ask around in Brooklyn what people on the streets really think of BIG, the real person. You wont find much love for him.
^^^Some of the dumbest shit I've seen on this blog and there's some real dumb muthafuckin shit posted on this blog. I'm from London and when I was in NY last year every BK nigga I was talkin to has got mad love for Frank White. My manz up in Nostrand blasts BI all fuckin day, thats all you hear off Nostrand Ave, I know this and I've seen this and I ain't even from BK, smh @ disrespectful muthafuckas that 'that choose to use/ Disrespectful views on the King of NY'. Biggie Smalls is the illest, always has been, always will be. Name one rapper who is as nice on the mic as Biggie, one rapper who's got half the swag, half the cadence, half the humour in his ryhmes, no muthafucka. Not Jay, not Pac, not Pun, not Big L, not Rakim. All of which are legends on the mic, absoloute legends but ain't none funny like Big was : 'You cursed it, but rehearsed it
I drop unexpectedly like bird shit'
'Niggas know who's the mind blower/ The weed grower/ Havin you seein doubles like Noah'
No disrespect to any other artist but Biggie Smalls = the King of Hip-Hop

PUN was nice as hell and I been had mad love 4 Pac, but even today can't nobody fuck wit B.I. and he been dead for 10 yrs. His delivery, swagger dude was the illest to ever do it. When Big came out, plenty fat nigga's started havin fine ass hoes. He made nigga's start dressing better. He was the first to rap about platinum. This nigga even told us he was ugly as ever but still had charisma like a true playboy would.
Damn I hate Suge bitch ass. R.I.P. Big.

I remember I cried the night Pun died.R.I.P. Big Pun
Whats the dilly bx? You know I had to come through with some words of support for the King, niggas is so quick to talk out the side of their mouth about B.I. I was just listenin to that Biggie Rap Phenomenon mixtape joint the other day and you spot on bx, Biggie outshines any dude he's on a joint with. If hip-hop forgets about Frank White then it is indeed as dead as a dodo. Never did he spit one wack verse. I was also watchin that Biggie/Tupac documentary joint on Cable the other night, how in the fuck you not gonna lock Suge and them dirty cops up when you got TWO cops sayin that Suge and Mack were part of the hit, TWO eye witnesses sayin they saw this Muhammed muthafucka (LA Cop) approach Big's convoy and ONE accountant who claims he transfered money for Suge to pay for the hit. How in the fuck can all of the evidence not go to trial????? Fuck LAPD and muthafuck Suge Knight.

I see you be goin hard ay htownmike plus I really think dude racist but fuck talkin about that, Why these nigga's tryin to style on Frank White. Why is it so hard to honestly understand dude the illest MC ever. Damn near every rapper know B.I. was the best.
Cannibus- the best rapper died on march 9th
Jay-z- take some ice up to the nicest MC
Styles- I'm the second best the first is BIG
Nas- you was like god to us in the form of Allah
If they feel like that then why can't everybody else see it that way.
what good N-boogie ?yeah im still wrestlin camels as englandrep would say. N-boogie its like styles said"none of yoall big,not trying to be funny but none of yall big"who better to spit that then the ghost.the lox and big broke bread together so its only right.
Yeah bx peep that shit again, I dunno how they can't get a trial together what with those witnesses and evidence they got. Sheisty shit goin on in LA, they're all in it up to their necks, LAPD and the LA Times. And yeah, I lent my copy of the DVD to my manz and that was about 2 years ago, I ain't seen it since! Bastard!
N-Boogie, whats good brethren? I feel ya son, Biggie to me is heads and shoulders above every other rapper, its crystal clear to me. Niggas is quick to say Big was on some faggot shit cos he was spittin lines like 'Biggie Smalls is the wickedest/ Niggas say I'm pussy I dare ya to stick ya dick in this' Thats some ill, funny shit to me, I cracked the fuck up when I heard that man. He just had the whole swagger, funny shit down pat and he was still a humble, real dude. Ain't noone seein Big Poppa.
Big Poppa throwin niggas offa cliffs/Smokin spliffs with my bitch/In the Mitsubishi Eclipse/Read my lips/I kill you/Let blood spill through/Did I say thank you/I grant you 3 wishes cos I be the gene/Niggas is ass out like fat bitches in bikinis/
when I first heard B.I., I was like damn dude nice as hell. I don't know if it was party and bullshit or Dollybaby by supercat but Big came thru the game and was spittin like no other. My nigga from brooklyn said chubb rock used to fuck wit some broad in biggie hood and he told me they use to diss him, tell me this do ya'll think BIG sound like a rougher chubb in some of his rhymes. One more thing I think the ghost can go all day wit Jay. Bx I got a mixtape of Jay wit him and Big L and Big L was killin that shit, was it you that posted that link from youtube awhile ago.
Ayo N-Boog, hell yeah Big sound a bit like Chubb Rock!! When you say peoples was dissin Big, you mean the wenches or peoples in general?? Shit, when I was in BK last year everyone I spoke to said they got mad love for Biggie, King of Brooklyn is what they said. My manz who live in BK said he went to the funeral and said all of BK was showin love. I first heard Party & Bullshit which is what put me on to Big. His flow in that joint is just plain ridiculous. You got a link for that Big L/Jay mixtape Boog???
I said Big and his boys was dissin chubb when he came thru to see that chick.I remember when I had to put nigga's up on Big just like I did Nas, Jay and nigga's kept stealing my shit. I been thru BK and I know nigga's got mad love for him cause I was askin damn near every nigga who was the best between him and Nas and they mostly said B.I. and this was when he was alive. I met him real breifly at one of puff party's in ATL and I told him he was a beast on that mic and he responded wit word, good lookin and I walked off cause a couple of background nigga's that was wit him was grillin the shit out of me and I wasn't on that so I bounced. I was gonna get a pic wit em but it was to many fine ass lady's in there and I was fucked up by the end of the night. But I'm glad I got a chance to meet dude. Click my name for that Jay and Big L. one-
