Prodigy: Getting That Guap But What About Respect?

mobb_deepcash.jpg

What does it take to get back the old Mobb? Do we have to take them back to their late teen years, when the hunger was tough, or rewind to where New York City looked like a litter box? Maybe all of this remodeling and gentrification is getting to the best of us.

Skip the nasty NYC imagery and fast forward into the new millennium. So far it's been money, money, money. Money falling out the sky, money falling off the stripper pole. This is the kind of vibe I've been getting from the Mobb ever since they went over to Interscope and got down with 50 Cent. But what about the "official Queensbridge Murderers"?

I'm sure a lot of you have seen it. Recently, one half of The Infamous QB duo, Prodigy, sat down with SOHH exclusively to speak on his deal with KOCH:

"Basically Fif is a good nigga, he let us get our independent money wit our solo albums. In turn we got Mobb Deep on G-Unit. It works out for our pockets, it's a great situation, lots of money from more directions. He [ 50 Cent] doesn't try to hold us back or take percentages, he's just like 'Do your thing - get your bread,'" Prodigy explained. "It's basically just a mixtape anyway to get people ready for the H.N.I.C. 2 album, but it came out so good people are going to treat it like an album, it's gonna sell like an album.... My whole way of operating is take it to the streets first. We're not trying to take it to the mainstream."

This project is going to "sell like an album"? Which album? Please don't say Blood Money.

There's no hate here, dunny. And I know the first thing that hoodlum kid is gonna say is I'm being biased, I'm talking out of my mouth. Whatever, say what you want, but you all know Mobb Deep hasn't been the same since they made moves with 50. Sure he can say this new project is going to be on some "back-to-the-basics street shit," but isn't that what they all say after they try the commercial thing and fall face first?

You may have your cash, but trust that it's not coming from your fans' pockets.

I have every mobb deep album and his solo album, up until they signed with g-unit. I will never mess with them again. They played themselves like ho's, and cemented it in my mind with that verse on jesus. They need to stop worshiping that false idol by the name of 50 cent and repent. And I mess with 50 and buck, but mobb has no business on that label.

Fuck modd deep....fuck fifty....fuck thw whold G-unit Garbage crew....50 was then good( "get rich or die trying" is classic) but the shit god good to him and he started calling older cat to quit, what!?

Commerce takes the hunger out of a young hungry MC, I mean if you look at anyone who has been in the game for a while; if they started getting the guap they whole style changed up, I mean you can even look at 50 right now and say that he's a hungry businessman but his music I say after get rich or die trying has taken a dive, let's face it when you apply making money to art the art takes the fall everytime, it's not just music or artistry it's our culture that does this also. We gotta know how to have money not just know how to get it. The social consciousness in music has been blinded by the ice, hopefully another grou like PE will pop up and raise the awareness, and no don't say Dead Prez because M-1 felt it for that Till we get there bullshit, which was a topic I missed yesterday, My thoughts on that, M-1's a Hypocrite can't teach anti capitolism and say "Fuck the Radio" and than turn around and do radio friendly watered down Hip-Hop/R&B Singles, Fuck that Come Hard or don't come at all.

fuck mobb deep!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the infamous and 36 chambers got me into hiphop and i gotta say i've been dissapointed with every mobb deep/prodigy album(excluding that free agents joint) since murda musik. but i heard and saw the video for his new track mac 10 handle, shit is dope. the album is all 70's samples, produced by the alchemist. check the vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZLuFIADKYg

good morning everyone, it doesn't appear as though prodigy is happy at g-unit records....

haha fifty was bitching that game was doing tracks with a nigga on koch (jim jones) and now progidy is releasing an album on koch? aint that sum shit. and i swear fifty called koch the graveyard for rappers. lol dumb nigga

oh get ur money niggaz

haha fifty was bitching that game was doing tracks with a nigga on koch (jim jones) and now progidy is releasing an album on koch? aint that sum shit. and i swear fifty called koch the graveyard for rappers. lol dumb nigga

oh well get ur money niggaz

I understand that people think mobb deep sold out... and they may of done...

but u gotta remember, being famous and keeping the rap game in lock is near impossible.... dre has calculated the only way it works... in the background... and every 7 years....

People need to understand that with age and time, people change, situations change.... maybe the mobb aint as grimey as they once were and theyre onto a new stage of their lives... a corporate level.....

they got money right now to pretty much do what they want..... they enjoyibng their lives... they cud give a f**k what people say about selling out.

Personally.... while their hunger may be gone.... they still make entertaining music.... Prodigy is hoping to get some of that street cred back that he lacked when blood money dropped...

Personally... i like the mobb, they make some good music and come with some nice flows, ut i think the world is changing and people want to see the "next big thing", not the mobb trying to scrape a few dollars together and talking about that same shit...

I hope prodigys shit gets the credit it deserves... alchemist as always is probably one of the best men for the job.

Good luck Dunn

Beantown is back baby!

I.W. Records.

We are Boston Hip hop.
Deal with it.

If y'all wanna hear some real hip hop, listen to that Jesus Price album by my nigga Sean P!

weak blog who cares
topic change in this bitch

Fuck yall that say Fuck Mobb Deep....their shit is still bangin'...I don't give a fuck if they sign to Elmo and Big Bird Records.....their style and flow is still there and beats are still bangin'!! And I can't to cop his new shit...yall niggaz switch up like the fucken weather.....Mobb alwayz bring heat regardless of the situation...its not like their ryhmes are weak...P is still that nigga...Mack 10 handles joint is the shit!!

i understand everyone including the blooger,we all have something in common:we r desperate and broke and mobb deep are rich,so what can we as black brotherrs do?of course hate and jealousy y'all good for nothing >?""!get a life,be a janitor, cook or some!

sohh should never take sides with any artist regardless of how they feel,we the fans are the ones supposed to do it!talk of biasness and payola kinda scheme!we the fans should be the ones to start a blog-i've said it again and again, sohh is gonna collapse if it keeps influencing peoples minds, that's why i love all hip hop

I don't know...its seems as if having money sort of takes the hunger out of some MC'S...but how do you explain nas latest album?...its hot..jay's album?..it's hot...my point is it depends on that persons growth as a man...and it seems ballerina p hasn't grown because with the shit he USED to kick,ah man..he should've matured into one of those cats like the ghost or kool g..my advice stop with the bad habits(smokin, drinkin, negative energy surrounding you)and read some literature,do some self analyzing, and realize you been brought thru the fire and you are a grown man now!..kick some grown man shit..even the street niggaz i know that came up during that whole 94 era are on some different shit and we don't even have the same amount of cash he has!

"back-to-the-basics street shit," but isn't that what they all say after they try the commercial thing and fall face first?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
No, that's what every rapper says when they come out with a new CD. It's almost like everyone is saying the samething in interviews.

BTW, who gives a fuck about Mobb Deep. THey some bitch ass niggas, anytime they get robbed by Tru Life.

But on the other hand, them niggas wasn't makin as much money before they signed with 50. So if your already flopping & someone wants to put money in your pocket then by all means get that doe

P was one of my favorite MC's of the 90's, it seems like after that "Free Agents" mixtape/street album i lost interest, not to mention the prior bullshit they pulled wit da Infamy album didnt impress me at all.

They was back on da right track wit Amerikaz Nightmare, but then they did what all us rappers dream of and "got dat gwap" and yes it seems the motivation and inspiration behind what made Mobb Deep, Mobb Deep has been washed down that Millenium Manhole we know as the 90's!

I got faith in P and really looking forward to his Koch Records releases. HNIC pt. 1 was one hell of a solo debut and i'm expecting the sequel to be no less than where the first left off. and P and ALC is always a win-win situation, so it'll be interesting!

Co-sign that. The money will fuck up everything. IMO, the Mobb has been over.

These dudes had ample opportunity to smash the game, but could never take advantage. I'll leave it on the stans to come up with the reasons why. Another thing that money does...is make dudes who make absolutely no sense run around talking shit like what they're saying is really deep. See 50 for an example.

You heard the radio interview he gave on Flex recently? According to Fif, Nas "flopped" (currently #22 on the charts after 5 weeks), and no one wants to hear his music (should be plat in the next few weeks) but Banks somehow isn't a flop, though his album bricked hard as shit.

SMH...

Shouts to the usuals.

htownmike ain't even gonna much trip wayyyy back in the day i mean prob when i was in 7th grade or sumthn i knocked off a mobb deep cd... i wasn't even a no head, i was all bout south rap... i loved that mobb deeb, murda muzik i think it was... i dunno i thought dem boys went hard though no lie... i just remember "we da queensbridge murdera's i know you heard of us"

Finnicky hip hop niggas.....Ya'll dont support they shit because of what they do in their personal lives and then hate when they trying to get paid? America's nightmare was a hot ass album and ya'll didnt support the shit. Even infamy wasnt THAT bad, ya'll just hated cuz niggas did a track with 112. Now ya'll hating cuz the niggas got dropped and signed with a successful rap label? ya'll dont know ya'll head from your asses. BANGIN' from beginning 2 end.

Peace 2 The Usual Suspects

YO NAS DID FLOP AND HE IS NOT GOING CLOSE TO PLAT CHECK THE NUMBERS FOOL. NAS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A LEGEND YOU CANTY COMPARE BANKS TO NAS CARRER WISE HES BEEN AROUND WAY LONGER BANKS ALBUM DID FLOP IN TERMS OF A RAPPER SELLING RECODRS IN HIP HOP BUT COMPARED BUT HES NOT CLASSIFIED AS ONE OF THE HIP HOP HEAVYWEIGHTS LIKE NAS IS SUPPOSED TO BE . ALSO HOW CAN YOU NOT RESPECT P BUT RESPECT NAS FOR SIGNING TO DEF JAM AFTER WHAT JIGGA DID TO HIM ON A PERSONAL LEVEL SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO MOBB SINCE 1992 WITH HIT IT FROM THE BACK AND I DONT SEE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THEIR STYLE SINCE JOINING G-UNIT THEY BOTH RAP ABOUT THE SAME THINGS MAINLY SO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE YOU PPL NEED TO STOP LISTENING TO HIP HOP

i swear you faggotts must have tunnel-vision syndrome. You'd swear everybody in rap is supposed to be one-way all the time for the rest of they rap career. Sure Mobb had a few setbacks , like EVERY OTHER RAPPER IN THE GAME, but they still here, atleast still trying to bang out good music and good beats. I don't understand what motherf*ckers want from rap niggas. You get money, they say you fell off and went mainstream. You still a broke rapper, they say you a bumb-ass rapper and nobody feeling you. So then what is a rapper supposed to be huh. Get the f*ck outta here bitches, ya'll don't have the slightest idea what rap is all bout. Sissy-ass niggas on here just don't know what the f*ck they be talkin' bout.
So question, name one rapper who is the epitome of what a rapper should be and always has been?

Dissin Jesus?

Oh shit wait to PZ hear about this!

Nigga check the numbers, nas never did big numbers he just stays consistent with his numbers but as far as droppin gold in a week, thats never been nas. And i dont down mobb for signin wit 50, i down them for goin weak. 50 will give u tha money to promote yo album and all that. and yet them niggas still didnt promote shit, they lost they hunger. nas at least was on bet and mtv tawkin bout his album so thats why he did better plus he is better. Mobb deep got that money and got fat like tha average American, and if u cant see that, then ur the definition of a stan

oh and to dude wit da faulty bank account, da album iz fuckin retarded B!

Faulty? no. just a lil misunderstanding is a better name for what happened, lol.

I aint mess with no one who disses Jesus.

I don't know how everyone always likes to blame g-unit for their descent. They've been consistently falling after murda muzik and after Jay wore them out. If you look at their album sales from that time on it's been in decline. They're music didn't change on blood money. It just happens to be same thing for the past 10yrs and it's old and tired.

@ dre

what's good wit ya this morn. mane? hey whats the report back on z-ro??? tell me you ain't get lazy on your boy and not cop nuthin' tell me somethin good... haha

Eddie Murphy needs 2 do standup comedy again.

Posted by: sohh at January 31, 2007 9:46 AM

Nas is a legend, and Banks isn't so there's no comparison...NO SHIT. Fuck, for that matter Fif isn't a legend yet pops shit like he is. And when it's all said and done, and both are retired - who do you think overall will have had the better body of work? I rest my case.

I love when cats call themselves trying to prove you wrong but end up helping you make your point. Smarten up my dude.

Come off that Nas & Jay beef shit. They did the grown man thing, said fuck it, and got paper. You'd sign WITH (not 'to') the dude that fuck ya babymoms for four-milly too. Cut the bullshit out.

Nas is plat everytime he dropped (for like the ump-teenth billionth time).

HipHop is Dead will get there, slowly true, but it'll make it. Belee dat.

Posted by: killa vam at January 31, 2007 9:47 AM

Jay-Z? Smashed the rap game, went on to other business ventures and smashed those, then came back to smash the rap game. The only knock I see on his career was trying Nas and getting destroyed, but that's a matter of opinion. I'm not the biggest fan of his music, but there's no denying his accomplishments.

After Jay kilt him at Summer Jam Prodigy hasnt been the same...but my man Vango Soze is doing his thing check him out @ www.myspace.com/vsozethegreatest
