In an exclusive interview with SOHH, Papoose spoke on his record, "50 Shots," which came after the unjust shooting of a Queens man by the hands of the NYPD. This interview contained some decent discussion, but what caught my eye was the last paragraph, which suggests that he has more in store for his full-length LP than the content embedded in his mixtapes-- the very same mixtapes that helped him step to the top of the underground circuit.
"The mixtapes are like high school. The album is like a college diploma, it's like graduation. If you liked that then you'll love what I'm doing on the album. I'm a fan of hip-hop. Some of the topics on my album are untouched. A lot of dudes ain't talking about the things that I'm talking about. If you listen to my material, I come from different angles. I think my versatility is gonna put me over the top. It's gonna be a classic album."
Classic? I've heard this very same word associated with the kid Saigon, and haven't seen any major progression from the talented lyricist just yet...
Classic? That's a hard word to live up to. Even Nas' Illmatic was an accidental masterpiece.
