New York City Subway Graffiti is Back, City Officials Refuse to Admit Borough Natives are Responsible

graffiti_blade.jpg

According to the NY Daily News, the illegal tagging of subway cars is slowly becoming a recurring trend -- a trend responsible for the 1982 hip-hop classic "Wild Style" -- but the NYPD Transit Bureau is publicly blaming "foreigners" as a means to discouraging New York City paint pros from catching the graffiti bug themselves... even though they've already been doing it.

The cops -- the same manipulative cops who recently tried to shy the attention away from their wrong-doing during that unjust shooting in Queens by inventing a "fourth witness who escaped from the scene of the crime" -- "estimated" that 70% of the tags found on New York City trains "are being carried out by Europeans." Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. Not to mention that in this Daily News article, they've appeared to have made up conspiracies of where some of these "foreign" tags originated. Please.

They clean the trains up within hours (even though it takes up to 8 hours per train), which is easily done because the graffiti epidemic has not hit hard just yet, which explains why the cops are blaming out-of-towners to distract city natives from getting busy with the spray cans... they're afraid of another 1970s out-of-control tagging epidemic, which will make it damn near impossible to keep the trains clean. But riding the 2 train in The Bronx is like sitting in a trash dump, so what's the big deal. A little paint here and there would sure brighten my commute.

But according to former '80s tagger Lady Pink, New York City's most famous graffiti artist and also a star in the movie "Wild Style," says that New York City has grown tired of painting on trains, because they know the paint will just get removed anyways. The point of the whole thing, she says, is for it to run on the tracks and be spotted by others.

But if the cops ever admitted who's really responsible for tagging the trains, trust that others would follow suit... and the painting would run far from their control. If last week's report from the Daily News sticks, which says that vandals have tagged and scratched 162 cars, more than triple the number in 2004, then there might be a problem. This is what they get for constantly raising prices on weekly and monthly Metro Cards.

That shyt has to be done by no one other than them crazy ass Puerto Ricans from the Bronx lol. Them dudes are always up to something crazy.

I think these lyrics would be appropiate for this subject........

Beat Street
The king of the beat
You see him rocking that beat from across the street
And Huh Huh!
Beat Street is a lesson too, because you can’t let the Streets beat you!

Well a picture can express a thousand words to describe all the beauty of life you give
And if the world was yours to do over, I know you’d paint a better place to live
Where the colours would swirl and the boys and girls can grow in peace and harmony
And where murals stand on walls so grand as far as the eyes are able to see, Ha!
I never knew art til I saw your face and there’ll never be one to take your place
‘Cause each and every time you touch the spray paint can
Michelangelo’s soul controls your hand
Then serenades of blue and red and the beauty of the rainbow fills your head
Crescendo of colours hang in tune, Man why oh why d’ya have to die so soon?

Typo.....Appropriate

Big Sun what's popping?

sorry buddy, you this shit all wrong, the police are right in this case, most of the graffiti being done overthere is done by europeans,(danish and germans mostly) some of whome I know personally. ofcourse NY still has some artists, but the thing is most people who write in europe have it as there #1 goal to write on New York subways, because that scene is so rich in history, and they wnat to be a part of that, me included. Hopefully next summer Ill come out there and bomb the shit out of some trains. click on the link to see some shit, and drop a line on my site. Big ups from Iceland. 111RVK DT !

Big ups for throwing sum shine on one of the slept on elements of the Hip Hop culture. I respect all graph artist. I do fuckin hate hacks out there who throw up gang shit. The stick writing and cross out bullshit that is a complete eye sore! It's like that bum ass "Spit" from Beat Street. I know the real heads out there remember that crack head, even though it was before crack!!!

Peace to the true Graph atrtist's out there, who beautify our city.

Couple of things to hopefully get it poppin in here.

Saw that Gillie Da Kid might sign with GUNIT. I like Gillie I really hope he stays clear, and keeps doing his thing.

I am Nas fan, but I must say duke Uncle Muder is fire too. He has been gettin on Nas, but he does have some skillz. He could be the next NYC emcee to blow!

Been watching those American Gangster's on BET. Rick Ross (the real one) was on Sun. night. Again they made it sound like he was set up by the Gov. to sell crack. The gov. did get paid, and was shady, but Freeway Ross was getting paid off of the destruction of our people. I must say it does make some good TV, even though I don't agree with alot of it.

Good Mawnin,

Well done graffitti such as that shown is hot! They should allow it on the trains...shoot...I'll stretch that and say that the city should be payin for the artwork.

But all that just takin a can and sprayin ya name, or gang crap, on any and everything like they do here in San Antonio is trash and makes the city look horrible.

Now, even though graffitti is hot and is one of the main elements of hip hop...as it is now, it boils down to people sprayin and markin on stuff that is not theirs to be marking on.

What they should do, is introduce a bill up there in NY, and if it passes, let graph artists bid and compete on the opportunity to mark the trains. It would put money in the artist pockets, bring them to the forefront of this hip hop culture, and would create a traveling work of art.

Of course it ain't gonna fly. It's just my take on graph.

That's what's up. The ghost is that raw hip hop as a matter fact I was just listening to an old Jada mixtape the other day saying to my self this kid should of made it but commercial radio is on some bullshit

I know that ain't gonna fly with puttin the bill through and allowin folks to tag up trains, but one of the "hip hop moguls" oughta make a line of taxis...and bring it back. Or Mark Ecko. Let the artist shine by creating the art on the cars. That would work.

True but this would also be a good enough reason for them to raise the prices of Riding Trains and Buses now. It could possibly backfire. Then who'd get the last laugh?

And nobody ain't got nothin to say on it???? It got real quiet in the NYC blog. Bx...I almost got to believe one of two things.

1. NYC bloggers only wanna blog about artists and debate the whole "NY is King", "South is garbage" and the other same circles of discussion

or

2. MrMe3 shut the blog down like he came here to do.

Where is erbody? From what I'm seein, there is no way possible for anyone to assume anything other than one of the two above.

Holla at me!

you don't know what hip-hop means or hip-hop is dead means. your too young to understand. Hip-hop is dead because everyone is trying to sell more than the next guy for bragging rights. hip-hop wasn't about who sells? that was a promotion from puffy and ended up taking over hip-hop. there is no diversity in hip-hop anymore. everyone has the same style trying to sell as much as they can off of hype. that is why orignal artist don't get radio, mtv, bet, etc. play. crews like de la soul, tribe called quest, roots will not get air play because they don't follow the leader and try to sell records by claiming to be blood, crips, huslters, pimps. instead you will get bunch of so-called pimps and gangsters flood the airway. not every record has to be about money, girls, power...well now it does and that is why hip-hop is dead.

@PZ
Like I said before beef is what get's shit poppin. It is a major hot topic, people love it. The industry is pushin so hard for this East Coast Vs. South. They are salavating at the money they are all gonna make. The artit's want that shit too, so they can get paid. Case in point Lil Wayne could never generate buzz like this with his talent, so he goes at a legend! It's gonna be just like Da Row & Bad Boy back in the day. Just pray niggas don't take it serious and we lose our most talented emcee's to nonsense and violence.

Yeah like that time he turned damn near the whole blog against the homie Huey Freeman 4 being a 5 Pecenter. That was pathetic 4 somebody who claims to be a Christian.

Huey

You bought the album? I was trying to look for it on the net yesterday no luck just track clipse which I need to hear the album in it's entiredy to make my decision on purchase.

Hate Diddy

Yea I peeped that. Everyone has there own beliefs whatever brings a positive light in there life, I'm all for it. That's what make us unique as individuals we all have seperate thoughts and ideas.

JasonB...listen here child, from the beginning...even Huey will tell you, I have constantly told Huey himself that I ain't got no problem with the brotha. Huey knows it is his beliefs that I come hard after, I'm not gonna get into that. Just like Huey comes hard at mine, I come hard at his. The difference between you and Huey..is Huey is a grown man, and Huey can recognize anotha REAL grown man regardless of that man's beliefs. I see that in Huey, I see that in BigSun, I don't see that you lil homey.

Now, onto the MrMe3 remark you make. I never cosigned ANYTHING he said you schmuck. I was laughin at the remarks he was saying, and I was sitting back judgin. See, when us grown folks was your age, we really did have "yo momma" sessions in junior high and high school..and we crowned winners. You gotta understand, MTV ain't invent the "Yo Momma" concept you clown.

I gave the Usuals just as much props on the good ones they came with...the gremlin line was one of the best ones.

So sit yo behind back down, and don't unbuckle your stroller strap again..or you gonna be in trouble. Don't get me wrong lil man, I'm Christian...all day every day..but I'm still a man in this flesh. Respect is respect, and it's earned homeboy. Huey gots mine...BigSun gots mine...you ain't earned it.

I don't debate with children. I send em to they rooms, make you sit on your bed...and by time I get back there, you better have figured out why you back there, or I'ma have you turn around ..put yo hands on the bed...and I'ma spank that ASS!! Spare the rod, spoil the child lil boy. That's "Proverbs 12:24"...get off this blog and get some life in ya.

Getting paid for graffiti is not a far-fecthed idea, at least not overhere in europe, even though graffiti is frowned upon and considered criminal activity. This year alone I´ve had the chance to appear in the Icelandic version of cribs called ''Innlit útlit'' and also the Icelandic version of extreme makeover home edition, or whatever that show is called, and a couple of music videos. I´m closing in on 20.000$ on graffiti assingments this year alone.(luckily I didnt get arrested this year)so I didnt have to pay any fines. The funniest shit is that Im not even one of the top 5 graffiti artists in my country, and it´s still a good hustle. Just make sure you dont leave any incriminating tags on the wall, if your doin it for tv, just smile and pretend you just do legal shit.

click link for pics, (just bombs and shit)

I wonder how NYC niggas would feel if i came an spray painted their new tv screen or spray painted their homes an call it artwork I wonder if then they would think its hiphop. Understand that yall dont own them subnways so stop taggin up other peoples property bcuz if its hiphop an art then why arent these graff artist spray paintin all them bentleys an whatnot in NYC since yall so called ballin like that. Im a real artist who expresses my artform on paper or clothin so i can speak on this. NYC please stop destroyin your only means of transportation

You funny dog....real funny. I ain't on here to make friends homey, like I said...you can't understand this cuz you ain't grown, you don't know how grown folks interact.

I stand firm on everything I've ever said, there ain't no question about that. Where you at? You in NYC? I got people to come speak to ya all over this country lil homey...you got hate in ya. You need a hug. Please tell me you are anywhere in the state of Texas, I'll come see ya myself.

Naw homey, I don't flex on the computer. I'm tryin to spread love and truth..I don't do the e-thuggery.

Everything I say on a blog, I speak just as though I would in person. That's just real homey. I'm sayin though, you could easily click on my link...see my face, see where I live, my real name, see where I spread my truth for really real, email address, all that.

I ain' about living separate lives..one on the computer, one off. That's what children and cowards should be doin..I'm neither. I'm a real life, grown man son. I never have been, and why would I start now cuzzin. I handle mine, anything that comes my way period...so there is no need for me to make fake names and hide my face. From what??? I'm real homey and that's not up for debate. So you can check up on me, I'm in San Antonio...doin exactly what I profess to do, and being exactly what I profess to be.

You and others are the one on here disguisin yourselves and keepin ya real existence's in secret. Not PZ bruh.

So I'm sayin, if you in Texas...we could really talk, that's it. And then if respect left the building on that personal note, we would address it accordingly. I would expect you to man up if I spit in your face, just like you should expect me to man up if you disrespected me...but see, I wouldn't do that because you would be the real you.

Anyway lil homey, you are dismissed. You not gonna get up under my skin. See there, that's how satan works...he tries to get at ya weak points and exploit them to counter act any truth you've reflected. That's all it is bruh...you a tool. But I'm that anvil homey, I'll break you off in flesh and the spirit. My flesh is weak, but the spirit is stronger.

You's a flea homey, and I just shook ya. Hop on ...hop on.

You sittin up here talking about how Bk got dissed by the chicks in Soulful when that Noria chick be dissing your dumb ass all around the blog. Your punk ass was crying foor her attention yesterday and she paid no attention to you! Shit she paid more attention to Htownmike than you!

i enjoy lookin at grafittied trains, bein that there arent any aritsts(or many trains) where im from(alabama). during the rare chance that i have to stop and wait for one to pass ive seen sum really good designs and it really makes waiting for the train to pass a little more enjoyable

Let's keep it real though Bx...seeing a movie don't mean nothin homey.

Are you a tagger, or do you know any real life graffiti artists???

If not...then you are basically saying that anybody that watches those movies are now hip hop.

If that's the case then, I'm a dang zoologist. I watched this slammin show about animals the other day.

I'm just sayin though...there was no point in that post you made.

Christ Bless!
PZ

pz why you continue to co-sign mremkrjwr is confusing.anyway my point about watching those movies is that graph was included as a part of the culture.Ramone in beat street and so on.so anyone who has watched these movies can see graph had a part in the early stages of hip hop.

pz why you continue to co-sign mremkrjwr is confusing.anyway

Why ya'll keep sayin I'm co-signin dude? I ain't cosignin.

I don't be attackin folks, I was just pointin out that watchin a movie don't mean nothin. Truth be told, nobody on this blog was or is involved with taggin, just like you said that was the early part of hip hop and I don' believe anybody on this blog was of age to be involved in any of that. I mean, I'm 28...and I was still a young cat when that was goin on.

So everyone is on equal playin fields when it comes to grafitti...we all only know what we heard about it.

Now if you check out my earliers posts...I was tryin to mention how we can actually bring it back so that people like us can really appreciate it for what it is and be a part of it.

Christ Bless!
PZ

Today's topic on graffiti is a nice change. Graff is the shit.

To all the cats talkin about bombing NYC subway trains, be careful, the cops may shoot you with 41, 51 or more bullets.

The cops want to break their shooting record, every time they kill someone of color. The more bullets, the better, according to them.

"Why ya'll keep sayin I'm co-signin dude? I ain't cosignin."

Look dog, no disrespect but you bein sensitive...and then you try to get at me about somebody else gettin at you. I don't understand that...I'm not cosignin the dude??? If I did...show me where.

I ain't on nobodie's "team" up on here Bx...you act like his lines ain't funny. I mean, I know they comin at you, but they funny. I don't understand how that is co-signin dude.

And me pointin out your line about the movies, you act like I ain't make a point or somethin???? I mean..re read what you wrote homey. You was like..."I bet you ain't seen...." and it sounded silly because you was tryin to make it sound like you was hip hop because you had seen them, and that if hadn't...then he wasn't hip hop. That's all, that's exactly how it came off. Look ...I ain't hatin and I ain't co-signin.

Honestly...I'm disappointed with the bloggers today, because nobody has made any good points about anything on this blog. Anytime someone does try and make and build off of a point, it's like it goes right over folks heads or something. I don't know, maybe this is what the "rappers" mean when they say they "dumb down".

I don't know man..it's just frustrated. Just a poor reflection of the culture I suppose.

Bx..click my link, check out PZ on that third verse of "Ready or Not".

See..you kno wassup homeboy. You couldn't quote me co-signin duke cuz you said I was co-signin in one of your posts earlier, but you can't quote it...you just restated what you originally stated in your post stating I was cosigning. (reread that one a couple times) Stop bein sensitive.

And tell me this homey, what in the world is a "real blogger". Or better yet, what is a "fake blogger".

Anyway...you right. I'm callin it a night. Time to pick the kids up, cook supper, live the grown up life. I've earned my $200+ for the day.

Yes! Bomb the system! I hope New York steps it up and starts giving us those End 2 End burners again. Hahahah "too busy flopping"? Wow you really don't get this hip hop thing at all.

Wow ... i never knew that a Police Department [NYPD] could become Xenophobic ...

Well only in the U.S.A

WAIT, what are you talking about, "No one involved in this forum has been involved with tagging". What the hell kinda ignorance is that? I never tagged in New York, and I haven't done it since I was thirteen (that was 10 years ago) but it was still something I did when I was growing up. Speak for yourself homie.

"Dude, U must live in your own lil' e-world"

*falls out of chair laughing*

huey that post from son took the cake.if he ever, ever talks shit im just reposting that shit.

Hip Hop was surely being re-animated at the AF-1 party.
The old true school heads turned the motherfucker out!....

Been watching those American Gangster's on BET. Rick Ross (the real one) was on Sun. night. Again they made it sound like he was set up by the Gov. to sell crack. The gov. did get paid, and was shady, but Freeway Ross was getting paid off of the destruction of our people. I must say it does make some good TV, even though I don't agree with alot of it.

i agree its ok for them to show stuff like that as long as they put a positive message on it but how are they not going to have any chicago cats on there larry hoover and willie lloyd who were big time gang leaders who later tried to do positive things and make peace and hoover was illegally prosecuted by the government because he was so powerful and respected not just in chi but all over u.s. any cat in the feds know whats up with larry hoover ask j. prince PEACE TO ONLY AND ALL THE REAL!!!!

Fellow Christian brothers and sisters. In 7 days Hip Hop Is Dead will be released(for the heathens who won't buy it thats December 19th)

If you're going to NOT be Hip Hop and bootleg it or download it, then atleast do by the will of GOD and buy the album.

You see if people don't actually buy albums like this, then the industry will look at it as a failure, then more hellions like Dem Franchise Boys, Jibbs, or whatever else the flavor of the month is right now will appear.

Christianity shall prevail, NOT Satanic rituals(LISTENING TO THE YOUNG JEEZY ALBUM)

Rappers like Young Jeezy are whats wrong with the almighty Hip Hop(alteast Jeezy apologized though, he might make it to heaven afterall)

I am off to my BIBLE studies now.

Hip Hop Is Dead December 19th

Ok so custom paint on a car is wack but spray paint on a train is hip hop? Man what????
