I don't think this is a stab at Nas becuase Luda and Nas have done thinhg together (Made You Look-Remix and Virgo) so I think Luda is just protecting against the perception that the south is the reason for hip hops declining sales. Alls I know is that when NY had shit locked, platinum was the standard. Ever since the south has taken over ( and they have taken over)its been all about one hit wonders and ring tones sales. Luda shoould take this as inspiration to go make a quality ALBUM that can be used as something more than a weed-breaker-upper. One thing about east and west cost artists is the longevity..... I don't see any longevity in most new south artists. Its alwasy the same names... Wayne, Luda T.I......... Wayne Luda T.I. throw in an Outkast here and there and thats about the deepest they can get (Scarface is forever). The south just doesn't have any substance, its all style and style comes and goes while substance keeps you in the game.

My problem has always been with the labels who think rap fans would be happy with one kind of music. The south should be able to do their thing. There is definately an audience for it. But there needs to be diversity in the hip hop game like everthing else.

Alls I know is that when NY had shit locked, platinum was the standard. Ever since the south has taken over ( and they have taken over)its been all about one hit wonders and ring tones sales. Luda shoould take this as inspiration to go make a quality ALBUM that can be used as something more than a weed-breaker-upper.

I agree, but u have to take into consideration that no one is sellin like they use too. and as far as longeverity you have too look at what each region contributes to hiphop. the eastcoast is known for lyricist, so all their legends are good lyricist like Rakim and KRS-1. the west is known for that gangsta stuff, so their legends are snoop and ice-cube. the south is know for party songs and layed back simple lyrics, so our legends represent that. bottom line is that you can't expect artist from one region to be good at a style of hiphop that didn't groom them.

Albums from Jay and Nas will bring the attention back to NY outside the G-Unit and Dipset shit, and other quality MCs like Rae and Ghost, Fab, Styles and Kiss, etc will get people back to feelin that NY shit again.

Hip Hop is dead, but not in a creative sense, but it's gonna take a few of the more thorough MCs to open the doors.

Big, Nas and the WU did it in the mid-90s, it's only a matter of time.

I would love to see that happen but I just don't think his heart is into it anymore but anything is possible. I got love for Jay, I mean dude had my truck knockin and had my ass shakin in the club. Jay was that dude.

I wasn't raised with hiphop and I don't really listen to that it much, but I love this site. Anyway, my point is that there seems to be a fundamental difference between what people are trying to say when they talk about where hip hop is 'living'. I mean, as far as the radio and the charts, it seems the south is on top. But on the other hand, when I heard a clip from Nas' CD it was so refreshing- it was like a wake up call. I think that's what hip hop has the power to do. It is about making money, but its also a very pure art that I think money can interfere with.n Ludacris is very talented but hip hop isn't supposed to be one dimensional. To me, it isnt supposed to be all about airwaves or making beef to sell records or all the commercialism I see. Not to mention the women I see, who can only talk about sex or what their man should be doing for them... that's the clearest message of decline to me. Everybody has a defined role if they want to be an artist, especially the women, which is sick because there is so much that black women need to be talking about amongst themselves and with their men also- not just sex. Soooo, my point is that even if it is "evolving", hip hop is a business now. The business element seems successful (somewhat) but I think that one focus is the element that is killing the rest of the art.

The word nigga is a term of endearment and it's cool with me when used in it's proper context whether a white, black, latino or otherwise utters it. What I was trying to say is that it's up to you to determine who is lyrical and who isn't. Like Ghost, I respect him as an artist, BUT FOR ME, he doesn't do it, does that make him any less lyrical? Ummmm. How many records did Streeet Disciple sell? Last time I check, it was 600K. Ludacris will eventually go platinum. Nas is washed up and done. Hip Hop is in a renaissance period right now.
I like what i see emerging from "The Bronx" and "Harlem" big things are definitely gonna pop off in those 2 boroughs.
I love what's going down in "The Bay" area, if anyone follows the blueprint to Hip Hop by the book, it's the motherfucking Bay area!, they got mad flavor.
San Francisco is the most underrated region in the Hip Hop arena,and when i go there it's like i am stepping into a time machine and witnessing the birth of Hip Hop on The Gritty Bronx Streets all over again.
Big ups to The Bay area, and to "K.M.E.L" they put it down on the radio something heavy!.
Last but not least "Los Angeles" is about blow once again...
By 2008 we will undoubtedly have about 5 platinum Hip Hop artists from Los Angeles,Keep your eyes on "Bishop Lamont" he's gonna do big things for L.A.......
I like what i see going down in "Chicago" with their "Global Gangster" movement.
I think Chicago needs a little more scouting from regional A&R's, and when that happens we will see more platinum Chicago Hip Hop acts coming to the forefront.
No disrespect to the south, i know you got things to prove to the masters of this Hip Hop sh*T, but what your region is putting out is not Hip Hop, it is grade A rap music.

Too many niggas is taking nas album title a little to hard. I think that theres a little insecurity going around down south since Nas & Jay are about to drop. For luda to come out and wear that t-shirt means that Nas album is gonna be a big impact in the game. Man wether niggas like it or not the south been holding it down the last couple of years. The east and west hasnt had control since the biggie and 2pac murders. 1st off I get down with both T.I. and Luda. Probably the best out the South after Outkast. You wanna throw out numbers cool but know this, Luda has always been on Def Jam so he had the marketing and push behind him from Def Jam. TIP didn't really get going until Urban Legend. Trap Muzik was a start but didn't do like it really should have IMO.

And TIP has done 4 albums. I'm Serious is his 1st. Its like gold or something.

JAY-Z- "New York, New York, we back." In order to be back, you have to admit that you left. I dont think that NY has gone or will go anywhere, but the King sure does.
