It’s official. Hip-hop is in hell.

Enough is enough. Recently, some kid from North Carolina told me that if the South ever proclaimed hip-hop to be dead, the whole world would take it as serious as the whole world took Nas. At that very moment I knew that this rap brainwashing nonsense had reached its peak. First of all -- and this is not an attack but the truth -- if someone from the South said that, then we would all laugh. Don't hold your breath.
Secondly, even though we make it a big deal, sales don't really represent anything besides a good promo team. People seem to have forgotten that this is the Internet, and that offline, most people could really give two shits about sales. In reality, whether we're selling records or not, wherever New York City cats go, we get CRAZY love just because we're from New York. It sounds a little arrogant, but it's the truth. The New York City swagger sets fire to every neck of the woods... East, West, North, and South. It's a known fact that it's always been that way. And while the Internet is a universal phenomenon, the Internet doesn't always represent reality.
Just thought I'd get that off my chest.
Forget Jay. I'm waiting for that Nas to ressurect this sticky situation.

You're absolutely right at one point Sohh Reckless, everybody knows that New York is the mecca of hiphop but the thing about y'all New yorkers is that y'all want it to be only yours and nobody else, you always want to be the only ones shining, same happened when the west coast was in its prime, now your jealous of the South, y'all better stop being so stuck up thinking the earth spins around you and you better than anyone else.
we need unity to resurrect hiphop!
NY will be back!!!!
I concur with you about Nas brining the Hiphop scene back to NY, I'm liking all the songs I heard from "...in the end there can only be 1 King of NY"
and I guess I would be 3rd for what that's worth
Good morning everyone!!!!
Reckless..ur stupid. First, if anybody from NY come around Texas actin all arrogant and cocky, they'd get put in they place real quick. and eastcoast gurls love that country acsent.
Second, hiphop aint dead, NY hiphop is dead. Yall even shittin on Jay and he has the hottest NY album to come out since...the black album.southern hiphop is alive and poppin.Nobody anyother place on earth is sayin 'hiphop is dead' but NY'rs so what does that tell u. Since the southern style dominates the radio and tv, if we said hiphop is dead, than there wouldn't be any hiphop in media left but Jay, Game, and the Kufi Smacker.
Third, if record sales don't matter, why is hiphop dead? u could make underground music and keep it moving.Oh i get it, hiphop is dead as long as NY aint the most popular music out. The whole 'bring NY back' movement is about bringing NY back to the top of the charts. U only say sales don't matter when u losing like a big ass little kid.
Diddy killed what yall call hiphop, and he from NY. He made it cool to rap about material things with limited mic skills and everybody else followed suit cause Bad Boy was eatin the most. Master P wasn't rappin about gold ceilings before Puff, P was bout it bout it.
Good job Reckless, u noticed that aint nobody show up yesterday, so u decided u needed another east vs south blog. SMH, pathetic.
And i'm through!!
Hip Hop died in 04. D4L, Dem Franchise Boys, Jibbs, and Paul Wall pissed on its ashes in 06
1ST!!!!!
Just wanted to say that
rocmp3.com/hustlafidemusic
I don't think hip-hop is dead at all. I think now, there is more of a variety of styles out there for the consumer to purchase. I hear people saying that there is not enough promotion from labels, then the same people will complain about payola in radio. There are too many contradicting thoughts going around. People, it comes down to having hot music simple and plain. Granted, I can't really get with the D4l type stuff, but some people do. I live that east coast *ish to the fullest, but if the whole album is not fire, I won't buy it. Thats the plain truth. I love Ghost, but fishscale was not fire all the way through. thats just my opinion. I loved Sean Price's "monkey bars", but I already know most people today are not gonna buy it. Just cause I like it don't mean the masses will. Real Talk.
niggas tuck that swagger in when they come to texas we dont play that shit down here reckless i dont know what you talking about dont let the weak rappers fool you or just find out for self ny is not the only state poppin TRUST ME
SOHH ONCE A FUCKING AGAIN
U MAKING US NY'ERS LOOK LIKE FUCKING CRYBABY HATING ASS NICCAS!!
LEAVE THE SOUTH ALONE NICCA!!
NY'ERS NEED TO STOP HATING ON THE BILLBOARD TOP 10 AND START BEING ORIGINAL AND LYRICAL AND ISH!!
THE HOOD IS THE HOOD NO MATTER WHAT REGION OF THE USA U LIVE IN FOOL!!
NICCAS FRONTIN IN THE HOOD GONNA GET JACKED-PERIOD WHETHER ITS HOUSTON -LA-DETROIT-ATL- BOSTON-WHEREVER NICCA!
SOHH U ACTING LIKE ALL NY IS UNITED. BULLSHIT!! I GOT NICCAS IN THE BX PROJECTS WHO HATE NICCAS IN THE SAME PROJECTS ACROSS THE STREET-SO WHERE THE BRING NY BULLSHIT COMING FROM!!
NY'ERS STOP FUCKING HATING AND LET'S GET OUR ISH STR8
SUCCAS!!!!!!!
With a host of major new releases hitting shelves last week in time for post-Thanksgiving shopping, Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" came out on top of The Billboard 200. The Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam set moved a whopping 680,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the ex-retiree's biggest sales week ever, as well as his ninth No. 1 on the chart. He thusly ties the Rolling Stones for the third-most No. 1s, behind the Beatles with 19 and Elvis Presley with 10.
YALL CAN TALK SHIT IF YALL WANT BUT NUMBERS DON"T LIE...........
WHEN YOU ARE MENTIONED IN THE SAME BREATH WITH THE ROLLING STONES AND THE FUCKING BEATLES , THATS WORLDWIDE RESPECT. GET OFF THE FUCKING CORNERS AND GROW UP.
Why can't it just be rap like it used to be? Wu, Big, Nas, Jay-Z, Pac, Snoop, Dre, Tha Dogg Pound, etc. were all just rap to me. People are letting the media and stupid closed minded hip hop fans dictated what's real hip hop and what's not when at first it was just about the music. Stop all this hate. East Coast Rappers could learn something from the rest of the country. Go independant. You can make whatever kind of hip hop u want for "true hip hop heads". You got your own mixtape following that could get you between 200,000 to 500,000 an album anyway and you get to keep more bread. Just think if they blow to 2 or 3 mil. For all that NY Swag most of them dudes don't even got they business right like those slow dudes from the south. Fuck status, Get paper.
People around the country dont give a shit about "NY swagger". I'm in Seattle and we make fun of New Yorkers who live out here.
"What up dunn"
"Yo, thats dumb nice son"
Sorry, NY is a joke to the rest of America.
Dont get me wrong, I love NY hip hop. Nas, mobb deep, wu tang, B.I.G etc. But the new wave of NY rappers is trash. G-unit, Jim Jones, Tru Life etc.
All this WWF beef shit is killin NY. The South only has 2 or MC's worth listening to.
And another thing, southern rap may be silly as hell, but at least its entertaining. You can sing along to the shit and its catchy. Have you ever sang along to a Papoose song? He's got skills, but he's about as entertaing as watching paint dry.
He thusly ties the Rolling Stones for the third-most No. 1s, behind the Beatles with 19 and Elvis Presley with 10.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Damn, the beatles and elvis aint have a hit together since the 70's and Rolling Stones started in the stone age. that says 3 things:
Age don't matter in hiphop as much as most people think.
Hiphop is capable of having icons on the highest level of entertainment.
JayZ is the biggest rapper in hiphop history. (i feel like he's the G.O.A.T., but everyone has opinions)
eastcoast gurls love that country acsent.
Posted by: bobby drake at November 30, 2006 06:59 AM
LMAO..... Since when?
I don't know where you got all that "swagger is recognized all around" nonsense. Yeah, we know NYers have a cetain attitude but respected? Come on, in DC NY dudes are a joke. We laugh at how all of yall love NY so much but noone ever stays there. The truth is, NY is done until they make music for the global community instead of their hood. It's all good to make songs for the hood but the worldwide buying audience is too big and diverse to stick to the same stuff and expect it'll sell simply because it's NY hip hop.
And another thing, southern rap may be silly as hell, but at least its entertaining. You can sing along to the shit and its catchy. Have you ever sang along to a Papoose song? He's got skills, but he's about as entertaing as watching paint dry.

Funny and true. i can't lie, we rap about some stupid things down south sometimes, but it's entertaining.
when my life is suckin my soul out, i always livin up when i hear Fabo's verse on Laffy Taffy cause that shit is fun to sing along 2 (hate if u want). I remember being kicked out my house and chillin in my car with Jay-z's "allure" on repeat.part of the reason i not only love hiphop, but music in general is because it has the ability to alter my way of thinking. and that's what music is about right?

I see why you hate comming from Seattle because all it does is rain out there. Seattle has to be the most depressing city in the USA. No lie I wanted to kill my self when I was out there for 2 weeks.
THIS TOPIC IS OBVIOUSLY GONNA START SOME BEEF UP IN THIS BLOG! LIKE ALWAYS!

I'mma tell y'all why NY feels that Hip Hop is dead;
The original elements of Hip Hop; MCin', DJin', Breakin' and Graffiti has been replace by Beef, Drugs, Money and Pussy

SOHH NY-you shouldn't have gotten that of your chest, you should have left that on your chest. Quit talking and make good records. 50 has been running the game for a minute now and you idiots don't support him and he's from NY, I've been saying this forever, ya'll problem is you don't support your own, whether or not LL & Kool Moe Dee beefed, no one took sides, NY loved them both, it's not like that anymore, "It's Dipset, no it's the Roc, no it's D-Block, no one yells G-Unit because they're not the underdog anymore, basically NY are haters. Just make music and the NY artist need to quit sayin, "this is for the streets", okay since it's for the streets don't get mad when it's bought on the streets or you get on a torrent site. Fuck NY, quit hating and make music, quit hating on ATL & H-Town. Ya'll hate on Jay-Z & 50 and they are hip hop. Ny don't love it's own, that's why NY ain't winning, they too concern with what the south is doing. Hip Hop ain't dead, it lives in the south and then it's going to go back out west. By the way Fat Joe's song sucks as well as nasal drips "Ballin". H-Town is in the building.
RECKLESS PLZ GET OFF THAT HIGH HORSE.NOBODY IN THE NATION FEARS NY SWAGGER.LIKE S/ONE SAID EARLIER,WE DO FIND THE IGNORRANT PPL FROM NY AMUSING(NOT E/ONE FROM NY ISNT IGNORRANT).ALOT OF LOUD TALKING BUT WONT BUSS A GRAPE.
WHY ARE NY'ERS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SOME RECOGNITION?IN THE WORDS OF ONE OF NY'S BEST,"NIGGAS BLEED LIKE US."

Why don't you let the bible altar your way of thinking? Once it gets like that you have a problem. I love music but I will never let what these idiots are talking about altar my way of thinking, if so, you're weak. Open up the bible and read Revelations, let that altar your way of think. Not Allure....

Good one, very intelligent. You watch too much BET kid. That's like me saying all of Texas wear spurs and cowboy hats. How dumb does that sound? What an idiot.
@ Huey
I hope that aint true, i've always supported 50's moves open minded (no stan). but that's some stupid shit to say considering how much Oprah gives back to the community and how much of a rolemodel she is to blacks across the country including myself.
50 should shut his mouth calling Oprah and oero....!!!that little asshole!!!he can't even market his artists, the right way, releasing albums in 2008 (Olivia's), everyone flopping around him (Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, probably Buck & Tony Yayo) if they come out and what's bascially his issue with Oprah???...if she doesn't want to socialize with him then get over it and move on....
DONT Y'ALL EVA GET TIRED OF BEEFIN ABOUT THE SAMETHING IN THIS BLOG? DAMN CHANGE THE SUBJECT THIS SHIT IS SO WACK! GIVE IT UP NO1S OPINION MATTERS UP IN HERE! IT IS WHAT IT IS AND WE CAN ONLY SIT AND WATCH OR SUPPORT WHOEVER YOU WANT TO SUPPORT!

Get off P, he was a hustler, he made his paper and more than any other person in the game, he had his run. Bout It Bout It was a movement, if it wasn't for P we wouldn't be hearing alot of stuff out the south now, that's why as wack as he was no one out right hated on him except Pastor Troy, P is an icon, he's still investing with old money, the dude sold his realty company to Century 21 for 360 million, that's real paper. He's still doing it and is smart enough to realize that this all goes in cycles, he's a smart business man, he shut down No Limit, move the money into his other businesses, filed bankruptcy so all the leeches could quit suing for nothing and is slowly building a new movement with Guttar Music, he already on the digital age with urban digital recordings and capitalizing off that. Whether P could rap or not, I'm a fan of his business savy, most dummies would have been paying lawsuit after lawsuit.

I come across this statment and it proves more what an idiot you are. So if it has the ability of changing the way you think you best stay away from gangsta rap. Might have a relapse and think your gangster. Look outside the box youngin. Music is for entertainment you dumb fuck.....LMAO
At this point I feel as though Yeah as a New Yorker I do have a swagger, a more or less fuck you attitude you just get it growing up it's not intentional to try to make people from other places feel like anything lesser; the same goes for Hip Hop we did invent it I feel as though we did it the best not just because we did it first, But I also feel that others outside of NY have contributed to taking it to another level. Don't know what I would think about Hip Hop if I never heard AT aliens or Aquimini, the ghetto boys, or The Chronic. The truth is we all give something to this culture but we can't immerse ourselves in the arrogance of believing one region is better at whatever than the next. YOUR SITUATION IS RELATIVE TO YOUR CONDITION. I don't do grills, I Don't wear stunner shades, I wear NY caps and ride the train I Tagged plenty of them in the 90's, I don't snap dance but I got a mean fuckin two step, We all got some good shit to offer but we puttin it up for sale when we hoe it to the masses on MTV and the formerly Black entertainment Television. We got bigger fish to fry then this fucking music, because the music is reflective of the greater problems of civil genocide. I don't know maybe if we change the music we'll change the people or maybe vice versa, but the regional prejudice and self hatred need to stop it ain't putting money, property, peace, or or unity in anyones hands.

Well said my brother.
I agree the South is runnin HIP-HOP right now although i prefer "QUALITY" East Coast music...But i think the SOUTH/EAST hating really comes from Back-in-the-day when us NY'ers used to hustle out-of-town and take over spots in other states not showin no respect& the fact southern girls used to sweat us...Now everyone thinks "NY'ers think they're all that"..Musically NYC just needs to step they game up and we ALL can live..

O shit. Reckless, I got love for you man but this straight bait right here.
Like my man Chevy said, birds will flock to whatever's different. I'm from NY/raised in Baltimore, I spent 9 months in Texas and broads were on it. Loving the way I talk, my style & all that. On that same token, my cousin from VA gets love when he comes up here...broads love his accent.
Point here is who cares? Ya'll are really going to argue who's swagger is better than whos? A sad day in blogging man...o well. Fuck it.
About the music...yea the South gets more airplay but nobody's really selling. DFB went gold. D4L flopped. Luda's new album is only gold. Dro flopped, and I thought that was a hot album. Only dude out the south that's doing the numbers currently is T.I. You see it turning around now because Game will likely go plat, Jay will be plat by next week. Nas will go plat. It's picking back up.
Shout to my dude Freeman too. That 50/Oprah shit is funny. Imma dip back in when we're discussing something worthwhile.

Like we keep telling you lamp shade hat wearing people is that we never really liked your music down here in the first place. A few mainstream artsist crossed over down here but other than that it was a wrap and that is the way it should be.
For years you were getting over cause no one took southern music serious but they always loved our southern hospitality so we started conveying that into our music and now yall can't stand it cause we winning. It's gotten so bad that you people "reckless" try to down play numbers now. I find that ridiculous.

And yo Reckless...all that "the whole world respects the NY swagger" might work with the kiddos, but I've learned that where I'm from, how I've grown up, and all the adults that I deal with. The prevelent attitude is this:
"It's not where you're from, it's where you're at".
That mindset you got is dangerous in alot of parts homey, don't let that Yankees cap get to ya dome.
And if you know me, you know I gotta go there. "It's not where you're from, it's where you're at"....that's what God wants us to know too. He don't call the qualified, He qualifies the called...come like you are!
