Nas, Ghost, Fab, Hov...This Looks Like a Potential 4th Quarter Massacre

... And I mean that in a positive light.
nasgodsson.jpgghostfaceblu.jpg
fabolousss.jpgjay_2.jpg

At first, I didn't pay it much mind even though Jay had already said it. But once someone brought it to me, I realized how big of a deal this could be. If all four of the release dates hold fast, then this could very well be deja vu... a walk down memory lane of the '90s Ruff Ryders/Roc-a-Fella era. Back then, it wasn't even so much selling records, even though they were pushing units hard body. But it was the hype, the buzz, the anticipation, the tours -- everything -- that was crazy. Forget clearing out Virgin Megastore. Bringing back the excitement and energy to hip-hop is what we need.

With the exception of T.I, who had a ridiculous amount of hype built off of "What You Know," 2006 has been relatively dry, dull, and sullen. And with Jay dropping on the 21st and Nas, Ghostface, and
Fabolous scheduled for next month, it appears as if they saved the best for last... quarter. All four artists have a different style and swag that can join forces and corner all four areas of rap.

This could very much be a good look for the game. But then there's always that chance that this can turn out to be a "massacre" in every sense of the word... meaning, a complete disaster. This will definitely be a "make" or "break" for the kid Hov. I'm curious to see how this will all turn out. But at the moment, it looks like a brilliant idea.

1st bitches

HIP HOP IS DEAD,KINGDOME COME,MORE FISH
CLASSIC SHIT COMING SOON NIGGAZ BRACE YASELF'S!

Reckless,

Mayne....its like blog writers and other journalists don't really understand this whole Soundscan mess. The only album to do at least 3 million this year was a fucking Disney Soundtrack. Thus, we can't judge this December as a "make or break" period for Jay-Z as an executive.

Besides the whole downloading situation being crazy, the ecomony overall is worses than 5 years ago. Yeah, yeah...they brought gas down, but niggas losin jobs, and rent is goin up along with everything else. Even them middle class white familys pulling $50,000 or more a year is starting to feel a big more of a struggle.

Also, as this shit happens, record labels are using less and less dollars for artist promo. Niggas be all busy now, so people have turned over to Itunes to become singles-junkies instead of buying whole albums.

Thus, undoubtibly, all 4 of these emcees are gonna do worse than they would have last December. In terms of a buzz right now (i know you need to know whats poppin from Detroit's perspective since NY act's like they dont know how to measure buzz anymore), Jay has the most buzz and Nas has a moderate 2nd place joint. On a nationwide scale, Fab has very lil buzz. That gettin shot shit might play in New York, but its old news to the rest of the ghetto nation. Ghost, who's one of my favorite artists, has even less of a buzz. Fab & Ghost only have 2 weeks to drop a hot street single to make niggas go crazy, and only 3 to drop a video for them to have any hope of doing 100,000 first week numbers.

anywho, thats my morning rant, one.

P.S.

Granted tho, everyone is dropping in the favorite holiday month of the world. But, they have WAAAAAAAYYY more competition than Dec. 2005. So i think they'll all do better numbers they woulda if they dropped at any other date, but we'll see.

There always comes a time when the fake has to be balanced out wit the real. In the rap game and in real life. By real, i mean reality of the hood, not that club shit. So all you club song rappers dont take it to heart. Just be your own man and start throwin up the middle finger to these corporations when they try and tell you how to market YOUR music. The transition is about to happen, right now, so ya'll just sit back and hop on the train. I know i got my ticket.

Albums im copping soon....

Nas (definately #1 on the list to get)

Fab

Jeezy

Pap and Saigon

and maybe even Ghostface and possibly Jay.

Ya'll get wit it. This is it right here, real talk.

Oh yea and The Clipse!!!! If you dont cop that you missin out on some real lyrical game spittin right there, square business.

Only thing is, Africa may have a valid point. With the way the economy is, most consumers may be reluctant to purchase a cd at 13.99 or more. It may seem like a waste of money to them. Maybe if they market the cd's at 9.99 it may sell a bit more than usual. just my thoughts on it.

Nah man, The Game Doctors Advocate will clean up in the fourth quarter. The shit is too hot! Honestly, it's classic material, especially taking into account that he did it without 50 or Dre.

On a southern note, if you havent heard Birdman & Lil' Wayne, go cop that shit because it's FIYYYAAA!!

if u support gay couples getting married
cop that like father like son a share of the proceeds are donated to the UFWA
(united faggats of the world association)thanks for your time

As soon as a couple of them ablums flop, i.e. Ghostface=2x plexiglass, Fabolous=gold, SOHH Reckless is gonna start bitchin talkin about people don't know real music and hiphop is dead.

I don't see Ghost doing big numbers tho, Fab maybe he got the potential but the market its not what it use to be he need to drop some good mixtape or tracks of his new album to great a big buzz

Jay will sell cuz people wanna hear what he has to say on his come back album

I hope Nas will drop some heat and do big numbers

The one album so far that I'm gonna buy for sure after hearing some tracks is THE GAME DOCTORS ADVOCATE

C'mon SOHH NY, now you know niggas from NY ain't selling, hell niggas in hip hop in general aren't selling. I believe the music will be good, but only Jay-z willmove major units, Ghostface won't go Gold, Nas will barely go Gold, Fab won't go Gold, c'mon let's be real here.

I think the industry itself is changing before our eyes. Going gold will be the new platinum like in 87'-93' time period. Niggas gonna stop spending $500000 to a million dollars making videos. It is proof by looking at the numbers that the game is flooded by too many niggas. The game is probably, in my opinion, gonna fall back and be more grassroots and niggas gonna have to do things the old way - do more with less - as in spend your marketing dollars more wisely. Let radio come to you don't go to them. If you hot in your city and state, they will have to come. I would focus on gorilla marketing on the internet, satellite radio, the streets via clubs, and giving out free mp3 and cd samplers.

I NEW FABOLOUS WAS GOIN COME OUT WIT A ALBUM AFTER ALL THAT PUBLICTY HE HAD ABOUT THAT ROBBERY & GUN INCIDENT...RAPPERS THESE DAYS...

Those are just the Def Jam artists dropping...And you forgot about Jeezy.

Def Jam definelty got a lot of labels nervous about dropping an album this quarter...

Styles P and Game also drop this quarter...Hip Hop is back in the building!

Its funny but why do YALL niggas give a shit how much the next man sells ?
As long as you the consumer get what you want as far as good music, that all that should matter. If Jay sells 500 or 5 million, what is that gonna do for you ?
As long as the nigga makes sure my $13.99 is worth it that all I give a fuck about. These niggas don't care how much overtime I kicks the fuck in.
Record sales has no bearnace on how good the product is. Its a fucking popularity contest.

Yeah, u can't forget about Jeezy. his singe is gettin alot of play around here (DC). and the Clipse drops this month too. I haven't been this excited about new music in a long time. i still don't think most of these acts gonna sell like it's '99, but it looks like the game is changing again. only the elite are gonna make it to next summer.

I have to say that sales do matter to me. I want an artist i like to know that he is making music everyone is feeling. so i want them to do big numbers so they don't get dropped from their label, and they keep using the same producers. It sucks when ur favorite artist does horrible numbers, get dropped, end up on KOCH, some no named wack producers, and u can't find their cd cause they don't get any promotion. then worst case senario is they just quit making music all together cause they can't eat.

On the other hand, i want wack and cocky niggas to flop. Artist need to understand that the FANS make them. and they need to know that if they give us bullshit, they'll get bullshit in return.

I honestly hope they dont sell i want hip hop to be underground agin i want it to go back to when a gold album was bragging rights cause hip hop is universallyu garbage i only loook to cop Nas , Ghost, Game and jay even tho i tyhink his will be the worst of the four i mentioned I bought HI-tek I bought Lupe them joints was fire although i wish themsuccess i was kinda happy they didnt sell because i know i will be one of the few who will get that quality music. like i got somany albums in my collection that was slept on that when i play them for people they be all shocked like where you get that! and they fel stupid that they didnt buy it in the first place!

WHATS ROCIN SOHH???

I THINK FAB GOT IT!

=TAH=

GOT DAMN!!! that lil wayne shit is funny as fuck who ever did that shit is a fuckin retard man i hope my nigga ghostface can sell a few more records he was just 90k away from gold wit fishcale maybe wit just a little more push he can get it maybe thats why jay puttin him out again how long do this nigga gotta keep puttin out classic shit for niggas to check for him?

Word !!!
Don't know what the fuck Drake is spittin but to each his own. I'd rather a nigga make an album focused on making good quality music rather than trying to appeal to a broad base of fans. That's when you get a "Nastradamus" when you shoulda had an Illmatic or Stillmatic. That's when you end up with a "Massacre" instead of a "GRODT". You can keep them sales. If its hot, i'll cop.

FAB IS EVERYTHING N 1!

HE APPEALS TO THE FANS! HE IS LYRICALLY HOT, HE HAS STREET-CRED! FAB GOT IT AND IM DOWN W/ HIM! PLUS HES SEXXXY! LOL!

=TAH=

Unfortunately GC and DJ Flame are right on point. Gone are the days of every bullshit rapper making money hand over fist. They oversaturated the market.

Hell rap ran R&B out of town to the point where maybe 7 R&B acts are successful today and the vast majority of them aren't going platinum early.

So rap took over radio and video and then had the nerve to try to push that coon music on an intelligent buying public. They bought that ish for like a year before they realized they were being dupped and now they ain't buying it no more. Rap will go back to the days when only the strongest will be signed and still it will take a while to win the public back. They have to prove themselves again because the labels put them in this messed up position.

So as much as we may love the releases coming out in the 4 quarter I can assure you only Jay-Z and possibly Game, who I guess you are not allowed to mention on the NYC blog, will sell big numbers. Mark my words.

But it's the bullshit music that is getting all of the props, and bullshit rappers being rewarded.

THAT IS MOS DEF CORRECT! AND PPL R SUPPORTIN IT AND THEN THEY FEEL THAT IT SHOULDNT B GETTIN SO MUCH "PLAY" ITS ALL UP TO THE FANS 2 GET WHAT WE WANT! SO SUPPORT REALNESS AND GET OTHERS 2 DO IT 2!

=TAH=

Everytime someone is gonna drop an album someone says they not going platinum or they goig gold or wateva..who the fuck cares, album sales don't mean shit about the quality of the music. Fishscale was pure crack but it didnt sell shit, so fuck numbers. These albums comin out tho are gonna be crazy, Game, Nas, Ghost, Jeezy, dont care bout fab or jay-z (maybe juss to hear wat he has to say).

@BOONDOCKS

WHY DONT U CARE ABOUT FAB? U DONT THINK HIS MUSIC IS GOOD?

=TAH=

2006 has been a major disappointment media-hype wise, but in terms of big name artists and quality albums, this year WILL go down in history as the year LYRICSIM came back to the forefront. TI, Busta, Rhymefest, OutKast, The ROOTS, Lupe, Luda, Ghostface, Lil' Wayne, Obie Trice ALL dropped science we havent seen in years. Add that to Jay, Nas, Em, Kweli, Game (as much as I hate to admit...homie's stepped it up considerable since debuting last year), Ghostface (again!) and throw in the good things I'm hearing about the Clipse (who pretty much had there coke rap swag jacked by Jeezy and Rick Ross) and FAB and 2006 is arguably the best year of the new millenium (Even DIDDY found a way to throw his name in the mix)! In fact I'm gonna do Quotable on this today.

Carry On muttaskuttas...

www.the-quotable.com

Fab is lyrically on point, he juss dont appeal to me that much, that breathe joint was the only thing that caught my ear. i probably have to catch him on that mixtape scene to get interested tho

damn yall goin hard at wayne today huh
i wonder how cash money stans feel about that the funny thing is if i kiss a man im gay but when they do it's the mob wake up pin heads mob niggas kiss on the cheek not the mouth

YEA FAB I BELIEVE IS UNDERESTIMATED! HES 1 OF THE BEST WELL THATS WHAT I BELIEVE IM SURE IF HE DROPPED HIS MIXTAPES AS AN REAL ALBUM HE'D PROLLY B REALLY B SEEN! MOST PPL NOTICE HIM BUT NOT HIS ALBUMS! I THINK WE SHOULD ALL SUPPORT FAB :)

=TAH=

Ooooh, cant wait, cant wait!

Damn. I cant even remember the last time I was excited about some hip hop releases, at least not more than one CD at a time. But it looks like we might be back in business.

Thats wassup.

Instead of just saying "its something that we do" and keep it moving, Wayne and Baby are playing themselves by comparing themselves to the Mafia and blaming the backlash on hate. YOU ARE KISSING ANOTHER GROWN MAN ON THE MOUTH AND YOU CALL HIM DADDY !!!
WTF are people supposed to think ? I don't get these dumb ass niggas. As homophobic as the black community is, do you really think they would understand some nasty shit like that. I don't give a fuck hjow much love there is, in this culture, you just don't do that unless you take it where you ain't supposed to.

You took the words right out my mouth, can I have my gum back? LOL

Sales IMO, are a small factor in determining quality music, it's not important, to a true fan, whether or not an artist is moving big units, it doesn't add anything to the quality of the project. Why would how much money another nigga banking make me wanna buy his album?

This is the problem that I think is causing this genre to go down the toilet. More people, artists included, are focusing on the monetary aspect and forgetting all about the artistic value of the music.

And didn't Ghostface already have an album out within the last year, year and a half? I think that's another problem, stop thinking that you have to drop an album every 9-12 months, take some time to put out a quality, substantial project instead of trying to keep ya name out there, I think that's the real reason why people aren't selling right now. This shit is so watered down and rushed, it's lost substance and niggas ain't paying $13.99 for a CD with four good songs on it.

Hell yea!! I actually copped Obie Trices first album from last year or the year before, or whenever it came out. The "Cheers" one, and i played it for some of my homeboys and they were like dudes album goes hard as fuck. One of em even stole my copy...lol! To be honest the only reason i ended up gettin it is because he was part of the Shady/Aftermath fam. But he didnt disappoint. One of the best albums of that year. I was extremly suprised and satisfied, real talk.

MEANWHILE...
I JUST HEARD JIM JONES CD...FIRE!
XXL gave it an XL rating...not really a JIMMY JONES fan, but i gotta give props when they're necessary!

NOVEMBER 7th, COP IT...ITS WORTH THE 15 bucks

Ghost did just put an album out but you gotta understand that this is all these rappers do. These niggas can have 100 songs done and recorded and only 15 of em make an album so why not come out with another one ? I wish niggas would start putting out good shit every year so these other wack ass rappers won't have time to come out. I am surprised that Ghost is coming back so soon but we need it from the Wu. These Wu Tang niggas be on some lazy shit. Meth been out like 12 years and only got 3 solo albums. Rae only got 2. Ghost is the hardest working nigga on the Wu.

But real talk... this is waht Jay had to say on FunkFlex last week.
He said he would like to do a spring tours wit the likes of Jeezy, Nas, Em , Fab, Lupe etc and he even mentioned that he wants to reach out to Ghost for that spring tour but Ghost is on his own tour right now. Its not even about bringing NEW YORK back its really about bringing real hip hop back. If I hear another nigga on some Walk it Out shit my head is gonna explode...

IHADNOCHOICE

U SAID ITS NOT REALLY ABOUT BRINGIN NY BAC BUT FROM WHAT IT SEEMS NY IS REALLY HIP HOP! FEEL ME? I WOULD MOS DEF TRY 2 GET 2 THAT CONCERT! SHIT I'D RATHER GO IN NY!!! OH YES!

=TAH=

@ihadnochoice

I hear what you're saying, but damn, give niggas a chance to miss your ass!! I know that they have tons of material in the vault, but take time to tweak that shit and put some stank on it! Don't just put some shit out just to say you but out 15 albums. I would rather have three quality albums from my fav rapper than eight with maybe 10 good songs between them.

The problem with not moving units is your label will drop you. If you like an artist then you probably want to hear more from them. If they don't sell then they won't have a label to allow them to give you more music.

more fish u fuckin idiots big ghost slappin the snot outta niggas again twice in 1 year you fuckin pengiuns
