Old rappers are hot when they do their classics. If no one buys their records then the only alternative is to tour doing their hits or move on. Rap is different from other genres because it gets old quick. LL was blessed to be doing this on the level he's on longer than anyone but all things come to an end.
Legends like Slick Rick and Dougie Fresh put on good shows all the time and the highlight of their performance is still their classic from '84, "The Show."
40yr old rappers are going to have a hard time connecting with teens who buy most of the CD's anyway so why not just stay in your lane?
mature rappers need to stick to their demographics. When they were hot in the 80's, their demographic was the teen market cause we were all teens. Now, their fan base is in their 30's & 40's. 30 & 40 year olds don't wanna hear about huggin' the block all day. If not college, we've just held down steady jobs and raised families without hustlin' on the corners.
