For someone carrying such a powerful message that is not common in hip-hop today -- which is reminiscent of the Public Enemy movement and other earlier "pro" rap artists -- this is definitely a good look. This is the volume of New York City exposure Immortal Technique should have been granted a long time ago.
I've sat and watched Hov's "Show Me What You Got" plague just about every music television station -- even VH1 Soul -- to the point where I can play back the entire vid in my head. And as I reflect on this I wonder, 'why didn't Method Man get at least one skimpy video... even if it was cheap?'
So Technique, who is a serious conscious rapper with nothing on his agenda besides touching his audience with enlightenment, is finally making his mark right here in New York City alongside the Wu-Tang MC. Techique had this to say:
"...me and Method Man, Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa hit the Nokia Theatre on Nov. 11th. We need you out there on that day to let people know that this movement has grown, and is not just about hip hop but about revolution in music and far beyond it. I appreciate the continued support of the people, and I really hope that you realize how much work is going into these two projects [mixtape and album], in order for them to be as powerful and as updated as they can possibly be, soon we will begin leaking more and more music."
That's whassup. It would've been nice to see Saigitty, Dead Prez, and Mos Def on that list though. And it would also be nice to know when that mixtape ( last time I checked it was a Green Lantern collabo) and album is set to drop.
Now will people appreciate this concert? That, I don't know. Nevertheless, big ups.

I don't get why people are saying this is Meth's fault. Even if he did shoot a cheap video all by himself, how would he get it played? Look the record label has a job to do and the didn't do it with Meth. They treated him like a red headed step child instead of the icon that he is. I made a similar point on Friday I believe with Ghostface coming out with yet ANOTHER album...I think it's just too soon. Go in the studio and tweak ya shit before you just so quick to put out an album, we do not I REPEAT do not need an album every year if it's not fine tuned.
As for Meth, his fan base, probably isn't checking for him because that was some straight sell-out type shit he was on. How High the movie, ok, I can see that, it was a movie, but the TV show and then it just seemed like everywhere you seen Red and Meth they was like two bafoons, in black face, shukin and jivin and that made me loose respect for them big time. As somebody said, Redman was always sort of a clown anyway but I think they took it to a totally different level, a level that you could see clearly was driven by money to be made and they sold their "soul" right along with it.
I just think their needs to be some sort of social revolution wherein people are shamed when promoting the negativity. Like Snitches for instance, if you look at the culture we are all snitches to a degree. 90% of these rappers are snitches. They aren't even lyrical as slaves back in the 1700's Singing "wade in the water" warning each other that the dogs could smell their footsteps in the woods and not the water. The problem is there is a proliferation of genocide in the culture that people examine but don't take the action to remedy.

He looked at his mistakes with Toussaint Overture and the Drum and Blacks and the Negro spirituals and the role these songs and drum beats played in the liberation struggle and he said never will I repeat this mistake again. I will keep these little young little niggas leaning and snapping, smoking and fucking but they will not be spitting that Black revolutionary shit and if they do I will trained the minds of the youth and saturate and indoctrinate their minds so thoroughly with clubbing, leaning and rocking, smoking and fucking that when their people bring them Black conscious revolutionary hip hop they will not support them. I agree with your post wholeheartedly, however, we must put responsibility where it needs to be FIRST - ON THE PARENTS.
I know that the music industry is shady, in that it cares only about the almighty dollar, not promoting positive messages, and if we are going to attack "the industry" we must also attack the artists who put out negative, stereotypical messages", but at the same time, I can't rock totally with that, because some of the greatest artists of our times had less than positve messages, but there was STILL a message in the music, the message is for the mature, not children.
Parents need to exersise total control over what their children are allowed to hear. As much as people hate to admit it, music does have a powerful impact on young minds, young lives.
If it means that you don't have cable so they can't watch videos, do so. If it means that you listen to talk radio or smooth jazz when they're in the car, do so!! I have a daughter and my fav rapper is Scarface, does that mean that I listen to "Da Good, Da Bad, Da Ugly" while she's in the car, HELL NO!! It's Disney, Kidz Bop or other positive, age appropriate music. We have the power to control what it being pumped into the very being of our children, our youth.
Now that's not to say that I'm trying to shield my child from what's really going on in the world, you'd be naive to think that you can do that, but you have to inform them about the message that's in music of today. You have to shoot straight from the hip about the lyrical content, that poppin bottles and riding big is not normal, nor is it the life that you want to live. We have to speak candidily and honestly with the youth, don't shield them, but inform them of the underlying messages in the music.
True story: My daughter was asking me about the "Money Maker" song by Ludacris and it's meaning, I was straight up and told her what the song meant, but at the same time, I flipped it and told her to watch me shake my "money maker" and it was my HEAD I was shaking, not my ass.
Bottom line, be a parent, excersise control over your children and what they watch on TV, listen to on the radio, video games they play, it's our responsibility to them and to the continued advancement of a positve society.

If you pay attention to Jay-Z interview Funk Flex he alludes to Meth but he doesn't come out and say Mef's name. When Jay says you can't disappear for 5yrs and come back and drop an album and expect to still be in touch with todays audience.
Jay has a good point but if Jay felt that way they shoulda dropped him from the label instead of putting his album out. Bottom line is the sht was intentional they purposely didn't put out a video or promote it. Maybe to spite Mef or to cut cost and use it as a tax write off. No video, lil to no promotion The only thing they did was manufacture and ship the disk. He doesn't have no major producers and only one guest appearance so his album budget is nothing. So it was probably a business move with the bonus of pissing Mef off before they let him go.
