i co-sign all uv said!truth is,from the word go,MOST rappers cldnt even give a full album worth of smashes but at least 3/4 of the stuff was listenable to.even the best have not consistently(i dnt even think its possible)give u classic after classic but now its just been taken to new depths.1 "questionable" hit single,and these cats think theyr the real dookie.everything else is pure trash.

also the fact that these songs are easily downloadable means that album sales of such rappers will further b reduced as potrayed by the soundscan numbs.good thing if u ask me.

i still prefer listening to the older albums.etc nas illmatic,eric and rakim'paid in full,jayz reasonable doubt/blueprint,enter the 36th chamber(all classics)but also VERY good albums like most krs joints,all common's workand dogg food etc but thing is,its not only for nostalgia has as much as these peeps made sense!aspiring rappers step ur game up!!!

I think that the time of big album sales is over period for everyone. With the blackmarket being such a huge issue in the devaluation of sales I think your going to see this as a trend. The numbers are also effected by the economy, I know they say the economy is going well but it's only cool for the rich. The Hip Hop fan is effected. The music is garbage and until there is either a lowering in the price of albums or someone makes a revolutionary album that demands to be bought that will make a change in the climate of hip hop this will continue.

I'm buying the following:

Jay-Z (better not dissapoint me)

Nas (Not expecting much, but...)

Redman (no question he's my favorite, I grew up to his music)

Puff (based on the fact that I bought all his albums, except for the remix one and sometimes his ghost writers on point, I didn't think forever was that bad)

Sigel (no question, whenever he comes back - best out right now)

Eminem (if he ever comes back)

Freeway (not off the bat, but eventually, I liked his first solo

Meth (didn't like his last two, not including black out)

Game ( I burnt the last album and it was aight, so...)

Ghostface ( I thought the album before last was a classic with all the overlooped beats and that single run, but that was a concept album and I didn't like the latest album, so if this is aight then I'll go buy it)

Styles P. (In my top 10 I think he's better than Kiss, but when they are together they are on point like a motherfucker, though I don't really like either's solo albums)

SOHH NY-come with something better than this. This has been a down year for music overall. People don't understand that rap is on the down side now and it's about to be a Alternative, Rock takeover. Things go in cycles. Just face it, rap is done. You can't bame the south, who you can blame is New York. You don't support your own. Ya'll had this whole "Bring NY back" movement. Ya'll had NY on lock with G-Unit and fucked it p by not supporting 50. He had to go to other regions to get his support, that's why he's winning and been winning for the last 4 years. Lloyd Banks sold just like everybody else without any catchy singles because he has a fan base. You didn't hear white people saying we gotta have a "Bring Rhode Island back movement" because Alternative music overall was moving only 200-500K on good disc. Like I said yesterday people forgot tha if you move 100-1 million that's still good, getting over 1 million is genius for record exec's. Rappers like The Game aren't smart, all this runing around causing shit, hatin'' cost money, promotion money and when he doesn't go double plat again he will be in the red and broke. 50 was smart with Banks, Banks's cd has brought in 2.7 million dollars so far, It didn't cost that much for radio, pressing, marketing and he should go Gold eventually. It's all about making money. These other rappers need to wake up and stop al this running around, the only rappers making money are on top of the paper work and who have a hand in the marketing and aren't complaining about the label, once you hear them niggas complainng about wanting to leave, that's becasue they ain't making money, Jadakiss been around for like 10 years and I gurantee this nigga can't go to the bank and get a million. 4. RADIO - The fact that most Radio stations are under 2 companies does not help .CAN SOME KILL THE WHOLE IDEA OF A STANDARD PLAYLIST .Playlist are ok but the fact that most stations just recycle 20 songs throught out the day is stupid.

3.RADIO pt.2 - PAYOLA need I say more. Payola can help a talented artist get more spins for their hot tracks .But it can also get a wack artist more spins for a wack track .

2.DOWNLOADS - Yes this really should be number one , but its just not as important . LIMEWIRE,KAZAA,NAPSTER when out , MORPHEUS all attribute and will attribute to the downfall in sales. Regardless Artist should start relying on Internet sales like Itunes . Cuz the Old Samgoody Days are almost gone unless something is done .

We all knew it was going to turn around. Fads are cyclical in nature and they always end. Just as history always repeats itself, true hip hop will return. The month is now here and a lot of us will be in the stores copping every hot, recognizable name on the shelf. For those that don't like Lupe, what a shame. I think some of his stuff is good, some not so good, some excellent on a grand scale. He repps Chicago well and his style reflects our city. I think that's the reason along with his lack of name recognition that he hasn't blown. But, just as scans don't determine hotness, they also don't determine wackness. Hip hop is coming back, r u ready!

It's not hate, it's criticism. Some of these guys deserve to be ridiculed for some of the things they say, do and drop. A lot of these guys are humans, but they have enough money to hire a publicist. Go get one to issue your releases and coach you on how to do interviews. There is so much copy catting going on right now that hip hop is losing it's appeal to a lot of it's oldest listeners. Forums like this are the places to express that anger.

Why is it whenever someone talks about hip-hop being dead, you all blame rappers for being to materialistic? And yet who are your"legends"? BIG and Pac, go back and listen to their shit-they're braggin about what they got and how fly they are. Now don't get me wrong, I still bump that shit. But what's truly missing is diversity in hip-hop. Record labels just haven't caught on yet, radio spins don't always turn into platinum plaques. Everyone can tell you a song they'll listen to on the radio, but never actually go cop the album. Artists need to start being themselves and stop trying to do what they think will get them spins and album sales. I used to work job fairs down there and the UIC campus never had an armed forces booth.

I don'tunderstand this topic. Is Hip Hop doing better because certain artists are doing worse? Or is Hip Hop doing better because bad artists are being replaced by better artists? I think that being an artist that makes "snap music" is evindence of a lack of talent, but not proof. As an artform I don't see it as being anymore ridiculous than "chicken noodle soup", "harlem shake", or (taking it back) "do the pee-wee herman".

The thing that I mainly have a problem with is that New Yorkers did this when Death Row was hot and if you think back they did it to Outkast when they first started getting recognition because apparently nobody from the south has talent. Will artists from New York ever let their talent speak for itself or will they continue to packagage themselves as an alternative to whoever is hot at the moment from outside New York. I think that New York artists are talented enough that if they stopped complaining about other people and just let the music do the talking, that people would take notice without turning off potential fans with bitterness. Jay-Z can't make albums until he's 63 in order to keep the scene in the limelight.

Second, that vintage NY hip hop sound that made the northeast a boss isn't getting the job done anymore. I mean seriously, what the fuck don't rappers understand? They're complaining about people not buying records, but yet they're not realizing that the people who DID buy their records growing up are all GROWN UP. That vintage sound that took them (rappers) platinum before isn't going to work for this generation.

It's simple. Create a new sound for the new generation. Create a relationship, a bond and an understanding with the new generation like you had with the old generation.

Rappers are too lazy to do that. They think just because they're vets, that will automatically equal sells. NO, you have to work for this new generation's attention. And more importantly, you have to work harder to hold their attention.

If these rappers aren't willing to put in the work, they need to step down and let the new hungry niggas in.

Dudes like me who grew up on classic albums throughout the 90's from the vets aren't going to tolerate the bullshit that these artists are putting out now. I was born in 82, and growing up, the number of classic hip hop albums that dropped was ridiculous. A major portion of the albums that came out in the 90's were hot, beginning to end, without a doubt.

This new generation is growing up on singles and bullshit albums. So naturally they have it drilled in their head that hip hop ain't shit because they've never had a taste of the vintage hip hop that built NY.

Hip hop isn't dead. The kats like me, and the ones older than me, know what hip hop is. This younger generation has to be taught, just like we were taught. We had the pioneers as teachers and professors. The new generation doesn't have anyone to teach them about hip hop and loyalty to the culture.

Generally, they pick middle to lower class areas to heavily recruit. They do this because these potential recruits parent's can't afford to send them to college thru financial channels without first incurring extreme debt that will follow them and that child. Some max out their credit cards, mortgage their homes or just plain borrow in order to get their children to college. The child takes out all these loans to get there and that leaves them with a poor credit rating directly after college when they are struggling to get on their feet. In steps these recruiters with the "GI Bill". It's a great tool but what's the point in getting it when you may not come back from Iraq. Kerry is talking about a class issue and there is a lot of truth in his statement.

Now we can see that one year later after this document was written Bush was elected office. Then shortly after that a "pearl harbor" type attack occurred how funny? should I go on, cause I can..... You have to also understand that a lot of things you will hear and see concerning the cover up of the 9/11 attacks are merely false, there are a lot of folk that truly believe in a conspiracy but in there attempt to prove it do more harm then good, not everybody that proclaims "Bush did it!" has the capacity to prove it or in the very least show sufficient data that could lead one to question what the government tells us.

Did you know that airline fuel only burns at 1800 degrees , and the the carbon steel support frames that supposedly were weakened by the fuels fire start to melt at 2600-2700 . Another thing is did you know that controlled demolitions experts strap Thermite around the Steele columns in order to slice thru them to bring down a building such as the WTC and building 7(Building 7 was actually brought down by explosives as explained by Mr. Silverstein the WTC complexes owner and the one who owned the insurance policy on them) Thermite is a chemical compound that burns at around 4000 degrees F ample enough to cut thru carbon steel, and a bi-product of the use of thermite is sulfate, sulfate does not naturally occur in the environment, but only when Thermite was used does it appear, professor Jones at BYU who's first name slips my mind at the moment did a study on the scrap metal left over from the beams at the wtc site found SULFATE! Pictures of the beams at the wtc site show that they had been cut with precision methods at an angle,(so the beams would break and fall easier) which compared to the photos of known demolished building were identical there is no explanation for this other than that Thermite was used. Lastly the buildings which were completed in the 70's, (73 I believe) were made to withstand MUTIPLE direct hits from the largest airline of the day a Boeing 707(a direct quote from the buildings designer, both of them), compared to the plane that hit the towers on Sept. 11 there is about no real difference between them. We can say that if the twin towers were designed to survive the impact of a Boeing 707, then they were necessarily designed to survive the impact of a Boeing 767.

Condoleezza Rice the National Security Adisor in the bush administration in 2001 called mayor willy brown the night before 9/11 and told him not to fly to NY, since he was scheduled to take a earlier flight from San Fran to NY that morning the same times the attack were planned to happen, she told him that something "bad was going to happen, so he didn't fly. now when we ask why this means anything: well 2 things 1) if she knew about the attacks were going to happen surely bush did too. 2 the governments stance since the beginning is that they NEVER KNEW anything was planned occur on 9/11, but her statements to mayor brown say otherwise!

And Lastly did you know that Dick Cheney had the Patriot Act written up months before 9/11. Also just another little tid-bit is that the plans to attack Afghanistan were already on the desk of President Bush 2 full days before 9/11. That's interesting it seems they were anticipating a "Pearl Harbor' type attack before 9/11, but the Bush regimes official stance is that they never knew of any threat, and they were totally surprised about 9/11. Listen to me people, this is real info, not propaganda like that which you hear from FOX news and CNN. I'm was a Special Ed teacher for children that VA classify as (EMR) Educable Mentally Retarded.
I'm a product of the Navy and throughout my career I was able to complete 3 degrees, BS and MS Ed and an MBA.
Anyway, I taught in one of the poorest communities in VA and while I enjoyed the children and all that came with it, the administration, parents, paperwork involved (was astounding) proved to be too much for me. Not to mention the pay, even though I was at the top of the pay scale, sucked.
In the midst of all that my husband was diagnosed woth cancer and with all of that going I resigned in order to care for him. But mostly it was because the system was so disheartening.
So short answer...alot of different factors helped me make the decision to leave.

Recently there is a new artist out of Saint Louis that goes by the name JIBBS. Jibbs debut single "Chain hang low" has a history that most people are not aware of. The particular nursery rhyme that the song mimics is "Ears Hang Low" The history behind this song is that during the civil war Confederate soldiers would remove certain body parts (primarily ears and testicles) from the deceased corpses of freed slaves who were fighting as Northern (Yankee) soldiers after their battles. This word (Continental) took this nursery rhyme from racist jargon to playful melody. The word that filled this space was (Confederate) as in Confederate soldier. i don't think hip hop is dead in the commercial sense, because what's the alternative? rock has never really sold that well unless you're one of the select few "it groups" of the year or an established group such as Aerosmith or the Rolling Stones. pop has always sold well, hence why it is short for "popular" music. country will never hit the mainstream audience, or at least it will take a long time. i have yet to see a country music video on MTV and rarely on VH1, which are your primary music networks. in terms of quality and substance dying in hip hop, no doubt it's been dying for a little while, but as long as you have at least one artist getting his/her voice out there and actually says something positive, uplifting, or groundbreaking, then hip hop will never be DEAD. that's just my two cents worth.

so you've got 3 songs out of 10 that are hip hop, 2 of them occupying the top spots, and 4 are rock. don't be acting like hip hop is just lagging behind. and out of those 3 hip hop songs, Ludacris' album is already gold after just 4 weeks on the chart and Diddy's album debuted at number 1 with over 140,000 units sold. not everyone is gonna do "Get Rich Or Die Tryin" or "Confessions" numbers. give credit where it's due.

i'm also a firm believer that you can speak something into being, so all these bloggers and readers of these blogs making a big to-do about hip hop being dead or near death, are contributing to the low morale and lack of interest that is beginning to come over hip hop listeners.

Hip Hop shall we say has got so big and appealling, that u'all have gottin sick of it. The white boys dress as us and try 2 talk like us. They smoke weed and drink and try 2 do everything they see the rappers do. The Blood's and Cripz have made peace. All these things have pissed us off.

Every 1 wants 2 be like a rapper, making us feel like every 1 else (white, chinese, mexican & paki). It seems like no 1 is different. U walk down the streets north, east, south or west we'all the same. It has killed are hip hop side. We feel like the rappers killed it, but we the fans have stop the flow, not death, but flow of hip hop. I'll give u some examples: g-unit, bigger than life, but after a while every 1 wore it and listened 2 it and than it just made u sick. We stopped and took sides of who than we like, instead of listening to the music. Like people who loved Ja, hated him after 50 killed him. Than 50 killed all these othe rappers, which showed who was the best, but like being married it get boring and guess what the fans lost faith in the rappers, causing the rappers 2 lose everything we love 2 hear. No matter how many rappers come out its not gonna be the same hip hop.

Back in the days of biggie and pac, people who were on pac's side listened 2 biggies rap still, and those on biggies side did the same, but they didnt care, they just loved the music.
Every 1 who listens 2 todays hip hop has choosen a side and doesn't change there mind about it. They choose 1 and stick 2 it causen others 2 change until every 1 is the same. This is making us sick of hip hop. Also things like the bloodz and cripz stop fighting made us sick of hip hop 2. Y, u ask? B/c when they use 2 fight hip hop was part of it. That made u sick.
Hip hop is a violent industry and without blood shed its like every thing else. I love to hang with my blood niggas, but i don't any more b/c theres no action and fun. All they do these days is go to the mall and hang with the cripz or vatos. Hip hop has been squeed the life out of it and its made us sick and tried. Artists such as the Game & Fat Joe have ruined hip hop, b/c they went from loyal 2 frauds and dishonest. Game was awsome with G-Unit but his ego got in the way and fat joe needs beef with 50 and dtp, etc to stay in the game and plus he might have set up pun, so that he would come out on top. Hip Hop needs are support 2 get it poppin again, so download, buy or go to concerts to bring back the fire.
