Jim Jones' Summertime Joint A Winner Uptown, Atlantic A&R Sickamore Speaks on Nas' Pushback

Jim Jones's "We Fly High" has become another street smash in Harlem and the X, but does anyone else really take Dipset seriously?

As of late, "We Fly High," the joint that was released this summer, has made its way to ringtones, nextel radio features, and sound systems throughout the entire Harlem and The Bronx. This is no surprise as the Dipset following is heavy Uptown, but I haven't seen hype like this since Juelz Santana's 2003 street hit "Dipset."

Putting out music for the streets is cool, but staying true to the mixtape sound keeps one within the regional boundaries. I think that when or if they add a bit more quality to their music, the rest of New York City and other places on the map will embrace them more. As far as New York goes, I'm not saying cats Downtown don't like them, but...

Brooklyn's Sickamore, aka "Make You Famous," is one of the contributors that negotiated record deals for Saigon and Tru Life. Apparently, he had word or two about Nas's album being pushed back to December, while Jay's LP retains its November release date:

"Nas is talking about how his album is incredible. Nas did not release a press release saying, 'My album's not ready.'

Now not to take this quote out of context, but I sense a hint in this statement. I guess I'm not the only one who was feeling a certain kind of way about Jay deciding to release his jumpoff the same month as Nas. But now, we can forget two album releases in one month. Jay is first, Nas is ... whenever.

What kind of partnership is this anyways? I'm beginning to have a feeling that this whole Nas and Jay-Z thing is a joke. I thought they were "doing it for hip-hop." But what I see right now is nothing less than generic.

Actually Nas's new release date is a strategic move. From my understanding it is the week before Xmas (the same week that Mary J Blije released her album last year) From a business standpoint that is the best week for music. Besides, Nas needs to build momentum and anticipation with s strong record which we have yet to hear.

On the other hand Jay is a superstar and is a one man marketing machine.

I agree with you Tisman. Jay probably doesn't have final say on when an album drops. The staff at Def Jam probably figured Jay is popular in the mainstream than Nas, so they could Drop Jay first, and then have more time to build for Nas' album. The hood is already droolin for Nas' joint, but if Game's album drops with Nas verse that will build more hype. I think this is a strategic move to raise awareness for Hip-hop is dead, and if Nas aint complainin, then I'm not. Ive never known him to bite his tongue

I Fucks Wit DipSet..Dem Niggas Came To The ATL Ballin'. U Can Find DipSet in ATL all Da Time, They Different from everyone else.

Its not just a street smash in Harlem and the BX but also New Jersey they bumpin that shit. In Columbus where I stay every body sayin Balllllllin and just the other day my nigga told me that he was at a club in Cleveland and every body was sayin that shit so it is what it is.

Why is dudes always tryna shyt on Jay?...first pple said that Jay releasing in tha same month as Nas was no good...but now dat Nas album got pushed back pple are still complaining...wat the hell do y'all want? make up ur minds ppl... The Nas join will drop sumtime this december...why can't niggaz wait?...Nas has big plans 4 this album...he's got a reality show coming up so I guess he tryna make everythin workout so it can generate a good buzz when the LP drops...don't y'all c the big picture?...geez

Lets just wait and see... i agree, if Nas aint complaining let it go... I like the Dec date. He will do his numbers and having him on Game Album as well and Hi Tek adn Diddy and probably a few more by Dec will be a good look. I haven't anticipated an album like this since Stillmatic after Ether dropped!!!

you dipset is the shit we here in lanc lanc banging them to the fullest

I spent a little time in Harlem so you know I bumps the Dips, I was cruising down Peachtree St this weekend 160 on the dash but I didnt have the pony. Dont wanna ball just wanna live good and comfortable.

DONT FORGET TO COP THAT NAS ALBUM

Jim Jones always has a good single but whether or not the album is going to be worth getting is the question. I can tolerate Cam, Hell Rell, and sometimes JR. Santana is aight as long as he's with a fellow Diplomat but Jimmy...I'll pass. Let me know when he finally "smacks the kufi off somebody head, i.e. Mase, Nas, Tru Life

Ayooo DIPS-DIPS-DIPS-DIP-SET BITCH! Jim Jones gets that radio play ya digz? All I know is that out here in that 973 we be bumpin One-Eyed Willy and the Goonies all day. BALLLIN!!! And about the Nas album pushback who ever said that its a good move to put it by x-mas cause of sales...If Nas is as nice as I know he could be then he could put this shit out in fuckin any month it dont matter bout the holidays Nas is nice and if his fans belive in him they will buy it any time LIKE ME!

H0LLA AT U$ FR3DDY R3PiiN DAT 9-DU3CE-TR3 (973) ALL YA H3RBS THAS DA AR3A COD3 LOL`ZS ii H0LLA P333ACE!!!

Yea I will Cop the Nas album the Bootleg copy nigga

I don't really give a fuck whose album comes first... I just want a classic. All this hype better produce 2 classics... if not....

Hey nigguhs shit on Dip Set when they put out garbage so show them some respect when they drop some heat...Dat we fly high is jammin even down here in thesouth.......Hey it don't matter when Jay Z and Nas drop they still gon do they numbers as long as they come wit dat heat.....MYSPACE.COM/BOTTLESBABY

SOHH Reckless this is some dumb ish!If Jay was trying to mess up Nas' album sales why would he have Nas on tour with him in Africa? Sounds like to me Jay is trying to bring Nas a Fan base that he had lost over the years. These two know what they are doing.

(i'm also from the C-Town (columbus, oh). dipset is pretty huge here. they have some major ties to columbus (drug money???). cam'ron shouted s out once (which is something i've only heard Bow Wow do.)

baby bub? bub sheist? some dud from dipset (producer) has a club here (the Red Zone)

midwest s all about dipset. (for better or worse.)

For those that follow music if you look at when Jay previous albums dropped they were all in Nov. For the record Nas don't seem to be beefing about his album being push back.

Oh another thing you guys thing Hov and Nas are stupid. They both know that hip hop sales in the states are not good, but if you have a concert over seas and then your CD comes out you are going to sell millions. watch and learn haters.

FUCK WHAT YALL SAY DIPSET HAS THIER OWN STYLE AND THEY ARE THE ONLY INDEPENDENT BLACK OWNED LABLE WHO HASNT BROKE UP OVER MONEY ISSUES U HAVE TO RESPECT THEM EVEN IF U DONT LIKE THIER STYLE. U HAVE TO LOVE A BLACK MAN WHO HAS ENOUGH BALLS TO HAVE THIER OWN WAY OF DOING THINGS WITHOUT CARING WHAT U SAY!!! BIG UPS TO DIPSET!!!!

Yo is it me or do Jay- Z and Nas seem like Hip Hop's George Bush and Bill Clinton?

By the way I'm from Harlem (142 an Lenox) trust me the only reason why niggas listen to dipset is because they're the only ones doing something. It's not because they're really that hot.

the only reason why niggas listen to dipset is because they're the only ones doing something. It's not because they're really that hot.

Thank you fam, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Why niggas is still sweatin these release dates... Im gonna cop both why the fuck can't other people... Plus that will just make it a great month for Hip Hop sales... Get familiar!

What up, people?

Co-sign Tisman.

Probably not the best idea to have Nas drop so soon when its already October and he's got nothing out here for us to chew on. December is a good look. He still needs to get something out though.

I take the Dips at face value, I'm not even gonna sit here and hate, Im not they biggset fan by any stretch but they created entertaining characters and situations to watch... I fucks wit Juelz, his energy is genuine, and I do feel like he is good for hip hop because he is unique. Capo is just Capo... and Killa well........ I ain't a fanclub member and by no means co-sign everything they do but they go hard for NY and they are entertaining as hell, you gotta admit.

Besides that joint with Genuine, Nas is really gonna be what you expect it to be. He's bigger than releasing a single to generate buzz, if Nas is gonna drop a joint you will by it or not and I don't think a single is gonna sway you one way or the other.

By the way I'm from Harlem (142 an Lenox) trust me the only reason why niggas listen to dipset is because they're the only ones doing something. It's not because they're really that hot.

Not 2 sound so gritty 1st thing in the morning but this is one of the stupidest post I've heard. They are not the only ones doing something, you not gonna sit through a cd and cosign the shit if you not really feelin them, rather u bored or not, if it's that serious you would go pull out a classic cd, or anybody else's mixtape b4 u listen 2 Dipset...don't be afraid to admit it's tight if you steady listening...that's like me sayn I'm listening to Corrine Bailey or sumthin b/c Erykah Badu havent put out a cd in a while....I think not!

Anyway Jay & Nas know what they are doing, I agree with Dig on that one...

By the way...what it do peeps, u know who u are...

Ya'll NY niggaz is funny as shit!:

the only reason why niggas listen to dipset is because they're the only ones doing something. It's not because they're really that hot.

One dumbass says that they're the "only niggas doin sumthim" but they're not hot. While another dumbass cosigns the dumbass statement.

DUMBASSES, THERE THE ONLY NIGGAS DOIN SUMTHIN CUZ THEY'RE HOT!

Thats whats wrong wit you NY lames, ya'll got that crab in a bucket mentality, Stop HATIN and support that shit!

Ya'll should be proud that he got a HIT cuz NY rap and doin shit right now.

I'm from ATLANTA and "We Fly High" get major radio play down here. Be proud that somebody is reppin that weak ass NY shit! BAAALLLLLLINNNN!

As far as RECKLESS'S BITCH AS GOES:
Damn nigga i've said it before i'll say it again, we know you gettin paid by def jam, it seems like its ur mission to discredit DIPSET, get a life nigga!

THE BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF "NEW YORKS CRAB IN A BUCKET" COMPLEX IS JAY "HOVA"(Ya'll ignorant fucks call him that shit too, dumbasses)pushing NASIR's shit to tha side for his own glorification.

NO Wonder Meth only sold 118k thus far!

THA KING HAS SPOKEN!

Damn i wish i wasnt limited to this site while i'm at work!

1 question before I get started on a quick topic change.

Why Reckless, whyyyyyy!

It's like you subliminally support beef or something like that. These stans and young dipset kids will be in here all day today.

Peace to the real, I'll wait.

Dipset is garbage with the exception of hell rell...I do respect there hustle as businessmen but the music they put out over the last few years is bullshit.

Ive been telling people for a while Jay is still competing with Nas- Jay doesnt realize yet they are on the same team. Think about it- Jay Z has never really surrounded himself with anyone that can fuck with him. The lineup on Rocafella with the exception of Beanie Sigel and Kanye was a joke and Dame signed those two. Now that he runs def jam-DMX left, and Method Man and LL are about to because all three of those artist can push units and get respect in the streets and Jay Z aint standing behind them. So its no surprise that one of the only people that is as respected and can challenge Jay for the throne is getting pushed back. Jay Z cant take competition.

BITCHofSOHH I co-sign wateva the hell I want. Don't get madd that your favorite rappers from NY ain't all that great. No one from Dip-Set will ever lay a finger or come close to being on Big L, Jay-Z or Nas level. So calm down with that reckless retorick and don't get your panties in a bunch bcuz I'm not a dip-set lover. I mean I was feeling them pre-2004 but like SOHH Reckless said Harlem ain't had shyt poppin' since 2003's Dip-Set anthem and please don't let me get started on the Chicken Doo-Doo Soup. So b4 u get out of pocket like a lil bitch check who u coming at. I am a NYer and I have every right to critisize my own not out of hate but to motivate these ni99as to do a better job and make better music.

I totally agree with that the stans are gonna be in full force today. I'll be waiting for a topic change. Whats good usuals???

Nas coming out after Jay is better. And December is a godd look, especially around Christmas time. Shit JAy dropping first is low key buzz for Nas a and I heard Nas was doing other types of promotion (reality show). That should make him a little more "commercially recognized" i.e Flavor Flaaav. If they came out at the same time, one would (initially) get burned fa sho.

Why Reckless, whyyyyyy!

Ok, I understand you can cosign whatever u want..but honestly, why would you listen to some shit you can't stand...that's what I don't get...It's so many garbage rappers in the D, but I'm not gonna listen to & support just b/c that's all that's going on right now or the newest thing jumping off...why can't u just not listen?

How does Nas's album dropping in December glorify JayZ?

Please Explain...

Peace 2 the real...

I have actually been viewing this blog for an hour but just decided to log on...I have no interest in the topic.

Nas is my dude... a push back on his joint is what I expected so no big suprise there...

ANyway let me transition into something really important which is I am asking every woman regardless of your age to get acknowledge that this month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for you to gather as much inforamation on these deadly disease as possible.

My X girlfriend's cousin died of Breast Cancer at age 31. She was diagnosed at age 25. There are cases of women being diagnosed with Breast Cancer as early as 16 and 17 years of age and die at age 22 and 23 years of age.

SO regardless of your age learn how to do self examinations...When your man is feeling up on you have him search for small lumps (real talk).

As I said a few days ago I don't like to talk about what I do but every since my X's cousin died 3 years ago I have tried to learn more about this issue and talk to women about the serious disease.

So please everyone take this issue seriously and encourage all the women in your life to take a proactive approach to this issue and their health in general.

Real Talk for the Godson

So you're speaking for all of Houston now...I'm just sayn....

This was so poorly written that I felt the need to re-post it without the typos. It is such an important issue that I want complete clarity in the text, here it is:

Oooh...u know u not even right...though kinda funny...*holding my laugh in*

I know this is off topic but, anybody heard that new Killer Mike yet?

Good Morning All"
First off, "BALLINNNNNNNNNN" Is that crack right now, and I'm not really a Dip Set fan, but Jim always comes with one banger that just takes off.

Second why do people have to bring up Chicken Noodle Soup w/ soda on da side, this is a kids song and just take it for that they know that this isn't grown folk music it's for the teeny boppers, let them let it rain and clear it out all they want, as long as they ain't outside robbing my moms I'm cool with that.

Third Def Jam, Jay-Z and Nasty Nas know what they are doing, cause i don't see Nas complaining so why should you!

slimgoodies:

Its not that I dislike dip-set I was just agreeing with duke who said they are not the best, that doesn't mean they're not good I mean it is what it is. I'm not a real big Jim Jones fan but I do respect the Dips hustle and I was bangin' Cam' hardbody back in the day b4 he lost all the weight.

We talk all day about Hip Hop is dead when in reality its black music as a whole that is dead. R&B been died. Every new artist comes with a Micheal Jackson moonwalk kit including the "digital studio" voice. Whatever happened to the nigga behind the piano ? Whatever happened to the "crooners". Every fucking R&B show or performance ends up looking like a big top circus act. I dig all the lil homies out right now singing and shit, but throw a nigga off every once in a while. Stop fucking dancing everytime your mouth opens. I'm only 27 but I am an old soul. I'll trade a Ciara and Cassie for a Evelyn Champagne King anyday. These lil niggaz ain't up on that Peabo. Peabo is like meat tenderizer for the ladies. Put that shit on and in 10 minutes, the broad is ready for roasting. I can't tenderize with Omarion and Chris Brown sounding like he needs nasal spray. Where's that Maxwell at ? Donnell jones CD is fire but gets no burn (if Neyo ain't a Donnell clone I don't know what biting is)? Yall need to pick up that new David Hollister son. I fucks with it all.
What up black people ???

Posted by: slimgoody at October 5, 2006 10:04 AM

Yes Ma, I've been reading the past post and seen the BS he's posted about blacks and whatnot. I know he is uneducated about our culture, but there is no way in hell I am going let him slide off like that.
