After a quiet full year away from the mainstream, it looks like Loso is having it his way with a fourth full-length LP.
The Brooklyn MC's first and second albums, Ghetto Fabolous and Street Dreams, were the two platinum efforts that categorized his flow and put emphasis on his target audience: Mainly for the ladies. Many thought that since it worked for LL Fool J, that Fab would stick with the formula and continue catering to the shorties. But his third LP, Real Talk, led by the Just Blaze hard-core banger "Breathe," was intended to bring Fab's way an entirely different set of listeners.
Fab previously spoke of Real Talk:
"I'm out for my respect. I want to try to wake the people up this time. My last two records shaped this mold of me as the rapper for the ladies. I don't want to be looked at for just that. I want to be respected lyrically."
However, his follow-up single, "Baby," shattered whatever message he was trying to convey to the street audience, and his sales slowed down and stopped at gold status. Gold is good, but is most likely not what he had hoped for.
He rebounded on the street scene, however, with his mixtape Loso's Way: Rise to Power.
If he really wants to be respected as a "lyricist," (which I think he has a long way to go although some of his lines are clever -- not so much lyrical) this new album, which was originally slated for release in December but has since been pushed back to February of next year, will be his chance to show and prove. If he'd follow the street-orientated formula which was present in compiling the exceptional mixtape that was Loso's Way, then he might be good money. It might help to leave the for-the-honey tracks as a filler, and keep them to a minimum at that.
On a side note, some artists can pull both lyrical and for-the-ladies without being labeled "soft," but some don't have that privilege. If you want to be viewed as a lyricist, then stop with the lovey-dovey and start getting busy with the pen.

Fab always reminded me of Jay-Z. Great song writer, poor performer. He's guilty of making pop/r&b songs foremost therefore he lacks any edge. His career was cleverly crafted for radio play and commercial success. The fact he's working on a 4th album in this day and time says a lot. He's talented enough to go in any direction lyrically he wants, the question is will the fans accept him?
loso can do whatever i always liked him i kinda thought he was wasting his gift with all the for the ladies stuff but niggaz dont love hip hop like they used to so why not cater to them they buy all the records anyway. but i guarantee if he did come wit some lyrical shit he will still be successful plus he can afford to take a chance now 2 pplat and one gold gives you that privelige we have to wait and see.
